Chris Kattan Says Life Changed Forever After ‘SNL’ Sketch

- Chris Kattan says one 2001 skit on “Saturday Night Live” changed his life forever. In the skit, a spoof of “The Golden Girls,” Kattan choked on cheesecake and threw himself backward, hitting the ground hard. Kattan knew right away the injury was something serious but said he kept it to himself because he feared the repercussions for his career. “I went backward on my chair to sell it and I really put myself into the character,” he told Inside Edition. #InsideEdition
The worst part is him feeling a need to keep his broken neck a secret in fear of losing his career.
Ddarke11 And then he lost it anyways lmaoooooooo
I hope many people see this and never put themselves in thst position again
Unfortunately yeah. It's a shame people have to be like that.
Sleepwalk USA yeah but he could’ve probably did more? I dunno I wasn’t around were people checking for Chris Kattan

And he wasnt even funny
@@sleepwalkusa135 dude he was hilarious. This is basically who kevin hart took after from. You need to watch corky romano. Still a funny movie to this day

@Jack Rubble yeah his jokes got old I'll agree to that. Also his new movies were garbage too. Pre-2009 kevin hart was the best. The only reason he got big was because Chappelle dissapeared so hart did get slower on putting fresh material from then on.
@Jack Rubble even the Simpsons fell
Moral of the story: Don't give a 100% at work.
Note to self: Only put in 50% at work.

Unless you want to be successful. If not, the 50% commonly seen today will be fine.
Yeah just to be safe I'll put in 20%
Hush up before you have people showing up late for work 😂😂😂
I can't imagine having to do a Night at the Roxbury sketch with a broken neck.
Maybe that is how he really broke his neck.
All uh that head bobbin hunny 😖😣😩😫😵. My neck AND MY BACK
Movie came out before the neck injury .
Ouch!
For real!
That’s awful! I didn’t realize this was the reason we stopped seeing him. He was my favorite!
Me 2, this breaks my heart
Mo 19 years :( imagine that. Time flies.
Yeah NATR was my favourite movie. I didn't understand why I never saw him again in anything else really cause him and will played that movie so well together. Shame we missed out on so much of this guys comedy
Was his D.U.I. the reason we never saw him in the Middle anymore too?
I wondered why I never saw him again. Would love to see him act again. He always played these quirky lovable & funny characters.
Moral of the story: If you hurt yourself at work, tell work about it.
@Alastor HA! Yea, did that. Was put on disability and then had my position terminated 6 months later.
Gotta love a “Right to Work” State.
@@privatecitizenguy2640 Pretty standard in most states. If someone is on disability for an extended period of time, it can be a major hardship for a lot of small businesses to keep that position open forever.
@Richard Bermudez Well, that makes it okay then.
To hell with “work harder” . We’re back to, “DON’T tell work about it”
Tell co-workers, but when higher ups find out. He'll certainly be eased out and his compensation will be nothing compared to his potential for bigger stardom.

@@fernandogarcia3676 While I love the Roxbury movie, I have heard that Chris was a problem on the SNL set sometimes. Some of the other comedians disliked him. Thought he was petty and a bit of a diva from what I understand. Think he had a huge fall after SNL. Again though, I loved him in Roxbury. Not sure he had the neck problem while making it though?
There is some bad stuff about him….

@Panda 2016 Pain management after surgery, sure. You keep doing it after prescription is up, because you like the feeling? Start lying to get more? That's on you. DUI a few decades later? Again, on you.
Lots of people go through injuries and surgeries and don't do these things afterwards.

You can totally tell he hurt his neck. So glad he is still with us, thanks for being you and giving it your all to make us laugh. 🙏
Ya even on celebrity big brother he ended up quitting, and he was 3 weeks in... He was struggling with something, either the show, (cuz you gotta live with 16 other people and not have contact with the outside world) or he's still taking them and ran out. Idk I absolutely love him and his comedy.
Addiction isn’t a joke and it’s complicated. The guy became addicted due to a valid prescription after a work related injury. I used to be judgmental about addiction but after conversations and UA-cam testimony I realize anyone can become one given the right circumstances because of how the brain is designed. Hoping Chis is doing well
I got addicted to pain pills after a kidney stone surgery… they took over my life and I was poor without the ability to afford it.
I can’t imagine working on a show like SNL where presumably not only could he afford it, but I would guess he was introduced people who could always get them for him… *So from his perspective, what incentive was there to ever quit or to ever seek help???*
It’s easy to look down on people and impossible to know what they’re actually going through.
Great comment *GRIGSY* … We need more people like you.
PS This year it’ll be 4 years since my last pain pill. 😃

Mark ODay this is such a lovely comment. Totally agree!
🙄 Great reporting - "Baby Don't Hurt Me" is NOT the name of that infamous song. "What Is Love" by Haddaway is the correct title and artist. C'mon Inside Edition....
And don't forget the thumbnail and title combo that implies his career was ruined because of a racist sketch
It may not be the actual name of the song, but it's the most famous lyric from the song...so does it really matter?
And it is the title of his book!
@@jimjones6901 no show on TV has to tell the truth anymore. Very sad. They haven't told the truth for 35 years now. The book PROPAGANDA about the trend is still available on Amazon.
They didn't say it was the name of the song. They just said it was the song that was playing in the night at the Roxbury
I hope that he knows that his sketches got me through bad times growing up. Times where I wished I wasn’t alive. I love this man ❤️ and we have so much more in common than anyone knows.
Glad you made it through those bad times. Without comedy, sports, and music, I doubt I would still be living.
Chris Kattan was hilarious, that man was soo underrated. I wish we could have seen more of him on SNL.
I used to wonder why he just disappeared and Will Farrell's career took off since in my opinion he was the funnier one 🤔
ME TOO... I thought the same... Chris Kattan characters were way too funnier than Will Farrell on SNL and then Chris just disappeared... I always wondered why people just get hooked on PAIN KILLERS. PAIN is a terrible thing to experience. It changes you inside out especially when you live like that for years. God Bless Him.... :)
If President does it, it is NOT ILLEGAL
Long-term use of painkillers can lead to physical dependence. The body adapts to the presence of the substance and someone continuously trying to dull the pain may find himself taking higher and higher doses-only to discover that he cannot make it through the day without the drug.
Yeah right Will is hilarious. When I see his face I instantly crack a smile. That man is naturally funny. This guy is funny but I don't think he's funnier than Will.
Julius Seizure Nail on the head!!! He wasn’t that funny at SNL and everything he did outside of it was garbage!!!! He probably was doing drugs back in his SNL days.
Ryan D I feel like who wasn’t doing drugs at SNL during those days
That’s sad. He’s could’ve gotten workers compensation and maybe with earlier treatment he’d be doing better long term
NBC paid for two of his surgeries (he had five altogether). IDK if that counts but it's something.
The thing that really sucks is that he's probably fighting a crazy defense attorney and insurance companies that don't want to pay or settle that is truly an injustice to human beings all over the planet and it's all over money money First Health later
People worship the idea of capitalism, everything else gets thrown to the way side. 1,000 years from now they'll look back and think of us as uncivilized and lost.
Not "all over the planet", just in countries without universal healthcare. He'd be fine here in the UK (for now).
Just imagine the stress of not telling your boss that your neck is broken at work because you don’t want to be fired😳
Nooooo! That sucks something terrible! He threw himself into his craft and hurt himself in the process. I never knew this and am sorry that happened to him.
He is one of funniest people to have ever been on SNL. God bless him, he has made me laugh so much.
I always wondered why he wasn't on the show for the longest. His take on comedy is brilliant. I hope he wins Big Brother. He may not know the game but he has the talent to be both a physical and social threat. Keep playing your way Chris!
He left the house. :(
Man, that’s so unfortunate.
He was so committed to his craft.
I've always liked that era of SNL. Mike Myers, Dana Carvey, Chris Kattan, Will Ferrell...etc
Owen Crutcher me, too. And Phil Hartman... ;_;
Back then, there were real SKIT writers who knew what FUNNY was. That's not the same today... You forgot; Chris Farley, Kevin Nealon, Tracy Morgan, David Spade, PHIL HARTMAN (Bill Clinton impersonation was the BEST LOL), Tim Meadows, Norm McDonald, Molly Shannon, Cheri Oteri, Jimmy Fallon, Jim Breuer (The Goat Man LOL), Al Franken, etc, etc, etc, etc... I missed those good old days...
Not too many bad episodes with that squad..You didnt know to expect.
Two different generations tho, Kattan was around with Tracy, Will, Jimmy, Horatio, Shannon.. that was the generation AFTER myers, farley, spade, hartmann, carvey
@@garrettharrison7411
I stand corrected. Those particular periods, in my opinion, were the funniest. The ensemble they have now, isn't that funny, and I was not really into SNL in the days of John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd.
“In 2014 he was arrested for DUI”
Who cares!!!
For some people, exposing ANYTHING potentially unsavory is the most important part of every story. They'll make fine reporters, I'm sure.
Maybe don’t show the arrest (but, yeah, it’s gonna sell)? I just wish that part could be included as a real outcome of this tragedy without it being seen as a moral failing. People need to know how addiction can start.
I thought it was pretty insulting to toss that in, along with the arrest footage, considering he sat down with them for an interview...

Me for years: "Whatever happened to that Chris Kattan guy? He hanging out with Rick Moranis or what?"
Inside Edition May 2019:
