A good starting point for crossovers is 1.5 times the speaker's lower - 3dB point. This gives you a half octave smooth transition and still let's you take advantage of larger speakers. You may have to tweak it beyond that if you have any frequency/phase issues, but this is a solid guideline in my experience.

I have my center channel on the floor under my projector screen. Got tired of seeing a stack of Blu-ray cases proping up the front.
Went to Home Depot, bought a 18" bath towel bar (brushed nickel) and mounted it to the bottom of my center. Got the angle just right. Looks great and it looks like it came from the factory like that.

the $199.99 Dayton SUB1500 goes down to 23Hz the $119.00 SUB1000 goes fdown to 30Hz pretty well which is respectable for inexpensive subs. the 12 inch monoprice also does pretty well going down to 25 or so pretty well too, its a bit "boomy" but I like a tiny bit of a "hump" in my music.

audyssey got all my levels and distances perfect, I confirmed it with an spl meter laser tape measure. It did however set the front mains which are lsim bookshelves to large and the center at small crossed over at 40hz. the rear surrounds it set at 80hz, the rear backs at 110hz and the 4 in ceiling mounted speakers at 150hz

My #1 tip would be to get a receiver that is capable of doing eq. I find that a lot of really great tower speakers really need eq to give a flat frequency response. My parents have some really nice infinity c336 towers mated with an entry level receiver and you can only hear the high frequencies from them that are bouncing around the untreated room. On the flip side, I have some compact tower speakers in my room paired up with a high end receiver that does eq so I am all good, but they are not unless they spend the big money for a new receiver.
I hadn’t watched your video yet so I don’t even know if that was your #1 too.
Edit after watching the video: I think Youthman is going to win the arm wrestle; he moves so many big subs, Youthman is definitely the winner. Besides, he showed his guns in a previous video.

here's a tip regarding speaker angle.. Grab a torch (flashlight) hold the side of it against your ear.. Where the light shines, is the correct position for the speaker.

Youth man and Techno Dad have always been my audioholic favorites not to forget Gene from Audioholics! Great to see you all get together and get "sober" lol...
So I tried to angle up the center channel a bit (after watching this video ) with some white foam covered with black tape my set up sounds just a bit better..
I also played a bit with crossovers..but I have to tell you if you have a Denon AVR (X1100w to X6500w,) once audyssey set up is complete all you have to do is just leave all the crossovers to 80hz and speaker config to "small" ..restorer to low setting..dynamic EQ to "on" and Dynamic Vol at "light" setting. This has been my best Denon/Polk friendly set up so far..
The following Is my HT set up
    Denon AVR x2300w
    Polk Tsx 550T Towers
    Polk CsiA6 Center
Polk Monitor 70's as surround A
Polk Monitor 40's as surround backs
Next time when you guys get sober...be prepared to deliver the video with some bullet points at the end of the video.
Thanks for making this video for us!
Please recommend some good music videos to test HT set up in your next video including Dolby surround test videos etc.

Dumb question but does it make the sub better if its on the floor with a thin type of foam under the sub ? The floor boards are wooden and has carpet. I have a little concern that there isn't quite enough rumble from my sub. I cheaped out a bit due to the smaller type of living room and purchased the newer Samsung q990c sound bar with rears and of course the sub. Thanks for the video guys , I love your work 👍

Is there a center channel speaker with multi-directional tweeters? Like 3 tweeters; one center pointed, one left, one right... cause I have a couch in the middle and two chairs on the sides in my living room, but you def notice the direction of people talking, when you’re in the chair!

    Hey Youthman,
I have an extra pair of speakers wired in parallel to both my rear and front speakers, they are all 6 ohm speakers, what impedance should my receiver be set at or will it automatically set itself to the correct level? I have a Yamaha RX A1070
I would really appreciate your advice.

Thanks for telling me to angle my center channel.. Not sure why I didn't think of it. Re-watched Endgame, and WOW. All I did was angle it down by a few degrees and the change was amazing. Maybe to the typical movie watcher wouldn't notice the difference, however it definitely sounds like people are talking directly in front of me now. It is screwed to the wall so all I did was unscrew the top screws a tiny bit and it angled the whole center channel.

I got the JL D110 and this sub doesn't disappoint for its size. It hits low and has a butt load of throw. I think you reviewers need to get ahold of this sub because it's not outrageously priced compared to other JL subs. Sure SVS will out perform it for movies but for music it's a whole different ballgame.

'Go on channa' loving the vibe brother, excellent tips by the way, which I'm going to take on board, I didn't realise how important it was to have your centre Channel tweeter in lined with your ears. after listening to your excellent conversation, so the idea is to get your subs to the lowest possible frequency while trying to maintain the best sound.??

I think again it's that same old answer.. It completely dependsnon the room. What's in the room such as carpet vs wood floors. Furniture can even help. Reflective vs absorbant materials. 2 good dual subs will always work better in room than 1. If you have bean bags blankets, pillows etc try those in the corners and see if you notice a difference. Don't throw money away.

@@49ers50 Onkyo is leading the market for years on sound quality. But they have alot of issue's. I've had a denon x2300h and an older cheaper marantz. I now have a onkyo 3008 and it has alot of power. Pushes every speaker very hard. Onkyo has a more forward/ agressive sound to it so you will need some bigger neutral speakers for that. Marantz and denon are almost the same. Yamaha is the king of reliability and cooling tho.

You can cut a wooden wedge to put under your center speaker instead of spending $15. That is nothing to you but others it can be a problem. You can even cut peices of styrofoam with a sharp knife. There are many things possible without shelling out cash for something so simple.

I have a pair of JBL SUBS that only cost me under $150 each and they sound great to me. I know more expensive subs sound better but I cant afford them. My system sounds better than any movie theater I have ever been in. At one time those subs were on sale for under $100. When you say cheap subs are no good it makes me want to not watch your videos because beleive me more people cant afford them than can. It also means your saying my system is shit and everyone that has heard mine and seen it would differ from your opinion. You really need to be careful what you say. There was a time in my life that I could afford anything. That time has come and gone and my life is a struggle no matter what they say the economy is. My ex wife is losing her home because she has been unemployed for over a year and has desperately searched for a job in her feild daily. She is 65 and changing proffesion is not an option. She has no living relatives except for a brother that stole her inheritance so she is in a terrible situation. Im on SSI Disability. Worked my ass off all my life. Bottom line is not everyone can buy whatever they desire so take it easy on disrespecting what they can afford.
