You did a really good job reviewing the bike. Riding 25mph passing pedestrians and bicyclists is a sure way to get people complaining about e-bikes on the trail. A lot of pedestrians consider it rude if you don't ring, beep or "on your left" before you go by them.
In a big city like Chicago, we are all used to getting passed by bicycles at higher speeds. No one complains as this is a way of life here. If I would beep or "on your left" every time I passed someone, that is all you were hear on my videos. I appreciate the concern and I realize things are different in more rural areas. When not testing out a bike, I do ride slower, use a bell or horn and do say "on your left" often.
I think Velotric has been doing a heck of a job at putting out quality & performance. This Fold 1 is a slick foldable. I'm waiting for the Nomad 2😁 Wife loves the Discover 2.
Probably one of the best reviews I have seen on any e-bike! Our neighbor just bought a Velotric Discover...we seen it yesterday and ask him about it...we have been looking at folding e-bikes since we bought our Airstream in 2022...just haven't bought one yet...this might be the one!
My friend got it and sold it was far to small for him at 6.2ft say it was sized to someone max 5.11 his legs were near clipping his elbows and bars when turning
We were sold on the Discovery 1 but after seeing this, I might reconsider . It would be nice to be able to load these in the back of the SUV instead of installing a receiver hitch. Great info to consider! Thanks for a thorough review!
yeah im also having second thoughts, except on the nomad 1 plus. I have been sold on the nomad 1 plus for months but now that I'm ready to buy; I began considering transporting the bike once I have it. I don't live near any nice trails, but I would be able to get around my local town with the full size bike at the cost of not being able to easily transport it to ride in other places. I'd have to spend another several hundred dollars to install a proper hitch onto my tiny nissan sentra from 2005. I only paid 600 for the car itself, screw that. Meanwhile, I'd be able to fold this thing up and throw it in the trunk with ease, and bring it to the beach, camping, to rail trails, into the city, etc... Not to mention the challenge of safely storing an ebike. I could put this thing in my bedroom or kitchen. A full size bike I'd have to lug in and out of my basement door every single time I wanted to ride it. 2
I don't have my Sinch 2 anymore to compare the two. Here is what I did notice about the Fold compared to the Sinch. The braking feels great since the fold has hydrualic brakes. The fold also doesn't feel like a folding bike but the Sinch does. Now the Sinch feels like an extremely nice folding bike (love the tires on that thing) and I also think the Sinch is better looking but for the price and ride, I would have to go with the Fold.
I need an electric bike specifically *because* my city has a ton of hills in it, and a folding one because that's all that can fit in my house. Is the whole reason Im eyeing this one gonna be an issue for it?
I ordered the Fold 1 in blue but unfortunately they have no idea when it will be available in that color. I was also considering the Rad Expand 5 + if I have to wait too long for the Fold.
I hope you got your bike. I ordered my a week and a half ago and it is suppose to ship on Dec. the 8th. I ordered it on Nov. the 27th. I hope mine comes on. And I hope your not still waiting on your's.LOL
Did you experience any Loss of the motor function I got one and sometimes the motor won’t respond and I’ll start slowly decreasing speed. Have to turn the unit off to get the motor to respond again.
Hi Scott, another GREAT review. I noticed that you have a mirror attached at the left grip. Is that installed into the end of the handlebar tube? If so, was there a removable plug in the left hand rubber grip or did you need to drill out the end of the rubber grip in order to install the mirror? THANKS in advance for your help!
I'm sorry Scott. I know nothing of the Ride1Up Portala. I can only comment on bikes that I have reviewed since I don't know how it rides or the features. Maybe someone will see your comment who has the Portala and respond.
That should have been "I'm not pedaling without Power." Of course you can ride this bike without Pedal assist, I do it at the beginning of the road test. Good luck on your search.
Scott, Nice review! Seems like an excellent bike especially for that price. My only question was the folding pedals. Seems like a nice option when folded but my concern would be riding comfort.
Cannot find one for $999. The one I’m seeing is $1199? Have you tested the aipas F3 adventuren for $895 and you can use a discount code and save $30 my first E bike reading everything I can find still a hard decision
Hight quality video, very well done. I'm 6'2" and weigh 300lbs, do you think this bike would realistically hold my weight? The frame doesn't look big enough. I know is states a max load of 440lbs, but really?
I believe this bike would hold your weight no problem. They have their own factory and these frames have gone thru tons of testing. Now, frame size, that part I am not sure about. Maybe the Discover 1 would better suited for you. I did a review on that one as well and it is on sale. ua-cam.com/video/83uHs27eMmY/v-deo.htmlsi=KR2pBe3_gQS2B7HE
@@scotthardesty Thanks for the reply. The reason I was considering the Fold 1 is because I need a bike I can carry up a flight of stairs to my apartment. Otherwise I would go with a larger bike.

Have you noticed a significant range reduction during cold winter weather in Chicago? I'm in Ohio and planning an insulated battery cover with some heat for the occasional winter ride. I'm considering repurposing some electric socks ... But those hand/foot warmer packets might be fine too since I don't ride often in the winter.
Oddly enough, the difference is minimal. I have done various cold weather distance tests on various ebikes and the total distance wasn't fluctuated more than 5-6 miles. I do ride all year long and the coldest I believe I have ridden was 19 degrees. Anything lower than that and I am taking the car.

Oh no. I have had no such experience. I would get ahold of Velotric immediately on that.
honestly, I'm a little put off by the size of the bike. I thought it would be smaller than lectric XP 3.0 at least like portola since its foldable

It was $999 before the tarrifs hit. Aipas is sending me the F3 to review. I reviewed their A2 and I am a fan of it.
Put it in your cart as they eventually sent me a $100 off promo code.

The hydraulic brakes are a noticeable improvement. Plus, it's 2/3rds the cost. As you mentioned it can also go 28mph.

Currently 06/02/2024, on their website link, $1200 not $999
