    I love your commentary and your boat! Most of us can only vicariously enjoy a Nordhavn. Please continue to share. Tide change in FL is 2.3 to 3 ft on average

    bow thruster makes easy the process of departing.

    I have not used a bow or stern thruster as my 30ft boat was built in 1930, it was fitted with a pair of Penta engines (prior to Volvo) The engines were up graded to 2.5lt Leyland Diesels and with counter rotating props was a dream to handle, something I picked up easily as I drove tracked excavators and dozers, same principal revers one stop or forward the other, could almost turn 360 in a boat length. Crewed on bigger classic boats and a bow thruster would have been very handy, but the owner wanted to keep to the boats design.
    The only gripe I have with thrusters is the noise, boats coming into a marina at 2am and spinning themselves around the pontoons with a screaming thruster is not nice. Often thought of calling the noise police, but would hate to wake them before the doughnut shops open.
    Any thoughts on the water jet thrusters on the market.

    Nothing says they must go out bow first.

    The Captain needs to learn how to use the thrusters with authority. Constant short on and off bursts generate much more heat than fewer longer bursts. New boat to them, Hopefully they will learn and get more comfortable.

      +Joe Sam Thanks for your comments. Glad you watched this new boat owner on his second time docking. You are right on some accounts as the thruster could have been engaged for a longer time period. We know that this thruster can handle 2.5 minutes of continued use because we had a thermal circuit breaker installed before leaving the dock two days earlier. As the training captain I was coaching this owner on how to make decisions based on prevailing current, wind and additional reverse eddy currents. Plan A didn't go as we hoped so the owner went to plan B. Casting off with no excitement, yelling or screaming is always a good thing. Practice certainly makes us better cruisers. Ask Captain Chris if you know anyone who would like help learning how to handle their new boat. 772-205-1859

    It's already for sale?! Don't tell me, the owner has a health related issue!

      Adi Pete we don’t know anything about a sale but this video was from a few years ago.

      Ask Captain Chris just saw It on yachtworld website! And my question is made on purpose because 99% of Nordhavn's owners buy these boats for what they are,ocean going vessels but shortly after you find them on sale sites,almost everytime motivating owners health related problems!All i'm saying It might be something else,like The Boat is Not what they claim to be!

      Adi Pete we know this boat has been from Florida to Maine at least once and I think it’s based somewhere in the Carolinas. We also know many Nordhavn owners who have crossed oceans. And even more who have at least run offshore for 4-5 days straight before coming back to the inland waterways. This is a terrific boat to spend in the Bahamas as well. To me the saddest thing to see are all the boats (regardless of brand/size) that sit in marinas, never leaving the dock. But while on the subject of buying more re than you need, anyone ever drive their car as fast as the speedometer numbers on the dash? And who among us never secretly wished for a muscle or sports car? Some of us have bigger dreams while most are happy with reliable transportation. Even less ever think about owning a boat. We are in a very small group who actually do it and within this small group there is plenty of different boat designs which bring each of us joy. And if you find your joy but it’s more than you can handle Ask Captain Chris and we will show you how!

    Sure could do without that 'Drawl' commentary !!! Enough already!!!

    • @AskCaptainChris
      @AskCaptainChris  8 років тому +1

      This Yankee woman has never been accused of having a drawl but I'll take it! No worries as Captain Chris narrates most of our training videos so you will rarely hear this northern drawl in future episodes. Enjoy all our postings in the meantime!
