Navy Catapult Officer - Shooter
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 жов 2019
- The Shooter is the conductor of the flight deck-but their batons glow in the dark, their symphonies are afterburners and their instruments are million-dollar fighter jets. As a Catapult Officer (a.k.a., Shooter) your job is about quality control, ultimate efficiency and teamwork. Shooters are leaders. Before you give the signal to get the jet in the sky, you work with flight deck personnel to give the “good to go.” You are the final check, the last say, the signal everyone is waiting for. Find out if leading the launch is for you at bit.ly/2JGvIjE.
i cannot express how badass that pose looks
Which one
I suppose he is talking about the firing hand low body when the shooter shots the way to the fighter jet.
Hell yeah I’m studying for my asvab right now and will take the test in about a month and hopefully will ship out in 3-4 months. It seems so un real to watch these videos and to think I could be up there doing that by next year💪🏼😤
You got this 💪
@@-j3rmamph3tamine-83 hey how did it go?
The Navy now requires the shooters to have some cool dance moves before launching aircraft.
Really?cool.
IKE shooter gangnam style brought me here LOL
I've notice that.
I heard the top gun leg kick after shooting is preferred
The shooter I know says this is malarkey. But some have added dance moves for social media fame.
The whole choreography of preparing the jet for flight, culminating in that one gesture by the shooter ‘Go!’. Pretty powerful.
Right? Pretty awesome stuff.
They’ve got “highway to the danger zone” playing in their helmets
These guys and girls are contenders for the coolest people ever awards...
Bill Burr: "The guy on the deck pointing "The war is THAT way!"
Bill Burr has no clue.
@@michaelmappin4425 Imagine not understanding nuance and a joke.
the wind direction is blowing out of that way
@@johnsparks007 the wind direction is the opposite way the shooter points.
@@Republic3D right so he's pointing to the north the wind is blowing out of the North and the aircraft is flying into the wind for greater lift for example
Did 8 years and don't regret a second of it, even though I was a ground pounder I was trained to integrate into a ship's personnel and mission plan and it's awesome to see them work.

How to get this job ?
@@vishesh_bhardwaj
Enlist in the Navy. And hope to get a seat on a carrier's deck
@@vishesh_bhardwaj sign up as an undesignated airman or wash out of any aviation rating school. You could also go to school for aviation boatswain's mate but then you won't have a cool story like the rest of the division.
Amazing wish you all the best
I`m glad that finally, some people such as your selves are taking the time to post these videos, it is important to know the Amazing job the ground crew does to make sure the pilots are safe and ready to take off. No one did this before... I respect the ground crew more now and I respect them.
I was a yeoman third class in operations and the reactor departments from 1984 to 1988. Some of the best times of my life! I miss it so much. Right after we got in from a six-month deployment not even a day or two later our families went out for a tiger cruise and they drop bombs in the water far out and the F 14’s broke the sound barrier. All of the families were very impressed and had a great time.
💪💪💪
I 'still' miss seeing the Tomcat in operation on and off the deck. Meanest looking jet fighter ever made!
BIG SHOUT OUT TO THE MEN AND WOMEN OF THE NAVY THANKS FOR KEEPING OUR SHORES AND AIRSPACE SAFE!!!!!!!
Being a jet pilot is cool and all
But seeing these Men and Women Work on board the flight deck working like clockwork is fricking awesome
Even though I'm from the UK, this job is inspiring me to become an aircraft handler in the Royal Navy

Go Navy!! Xxoo my dad was navy. Korea. He loved it. ✌
Was in the Navy in the mid 60's was nothing like it is now. Carriers were called " bird farms ". Guess things change with time. Still have friends from my Navy days 54 years after my seperation. God bless the crews and ships of the U.S. NAVY
It's not that different except that it's become 1000x safer. They fight fires these days with quick efficiency. Long before the thermally protected ordnance has a chance to blow up in your face.
Thanks for your service, Bill!
You guys are amazing.
Okay this is totally badass lol. These guys look like they're having fun.

These guys are as cool as the pilots!
they are not pilots dude
They are pilots and officers. My son is one of them.
@@grzyb11 Yeah, actually they are. Shooter is a non-flying billet for pilots after their flying tour.
If I was 19 years old again , I'd be on a Flight Deck for sure !!

So for clarification a “shooter” is a commissioned naval line officer that is a Naval Aviator or a Naval Flight Officer. So to answer questions below yes you need a college degree and yes you need a commission. You also must be eligible for a Division Officer tour. The Navy is a fantastic opportunity so I encourage all to look into becoming a officer and joining.
Amazing; for some reason, I always thought of these guys were Enlisted personnel.
@@omegathelast2347 i think the guys on the deck are all enlisted, even the gut doing the shooting sign.
How would I become a navy catapult officer (shooter)?
AWESOME ENGLAND
100% cooler than even the pilots.
R u sure about that, i mean yeah the crews are cool but i mean… flying at supersonic speeds, dropping bombs and missiles and preforming manouvers that the average person would pass out or even die from. I think being a pilot or WSO is a bit cooler.

Surprised that a “shooter” is a vocal fried up-talker
💙USA Navy🇺🇸💙
The coolest mission in Battlefield 3 brought me here.
So if they are really lively on the deck, are they “active shooters”? 😂
Did nine years, 5 1/2 on Tin Cans. Always cool to watch flight ops on the Bird Farms.
⚓️⚓️⚓️⚓️⚓️
I liked watching DDGs bob up and down and disappear through giant waves. I know that had I been on one of those, I'd have been barfing 24/7.
Haven't seen any shooters involved with helicopters when I was in. I was with a rotary squadron on the USS Constellation. All I see were LSE (Landing Signalman Enlisted). No where near.
Helicopter Control Officers are up in Prifly. They coordinate with the OOD to make winds appropriate for engage/disengage, or launch/recover. The LSE is talking to the HCO for everything they need to do from the helo spot. 5MC announcements concerning helo ops all come from the HCO. During regular flight quarters, the Air Boss or Mini is acting as HCO to do that work. After fixed wing flight quarters, shooters and squadron duty officers take care of it. Sometimes even the air LCPO can do it. 😉

landing on the boat? up periscope!
Does anyone know what rank usually comes with this job? LT?
the person who pushes the button to launch, whats that position called?
If shooting topside, deck edge operator. If shooting from the bubble, the shooter presses the button.
I served on the USS Forrestal in the 60's, yes I served during the "forrest-fire insident.
Yup, you have reached your pinnacle potential when you finally get the job of kneeing AND pointing at the same time. I mean, fk doing a science degree.

What is the MOS for this please i would love to do this it will be like a dream come true
Edgar Ombasa Aviation Officers on a dissasociated sea tour will usually fill most of this role. Designator 1310/1320.
Naval aviators (officers) and aviation boatswain’s mates (enlisted) can be on this role
@@genericperson6286 Shooters are always officers. If the shooter is shooting bubble (ICCS), there will be an enlisted AB acting as topside safety. They give a thumbs up rather than launch signal.
1:18 she calls it a boat lol
EDIT: GO NAVY, this is still an awesome vid
FYI: Aircraft carriers get called “the boat” all the time!
Stan Asjes a lot of Navy personnel call it a boat.
I was Army, but if I went Navy, this would be the job I wanted to do.
Cat Officer - the job given to Helo & Patrol pilots, with average FITREP scores, to help them make O4 and thus qualify for a minimal retirement.
Can anyone here tell me when the final "checklist" that shooters do prior to giving the "Thumbs up" to the launch bunker area? The look like they are checking downrange to make sure cat is clear, checking gear, checking for green shirts.... does anyone have the official checklist? Thanks!!
Sure. No problem. I have CVNATOPS right on my phone.
1. Check steam pressure/CSV setting and wind.
2. Check for a green rotating beacon.
3. Make a final scan of the aircraft, aircraft hookup, and squadron aircraft checker for a “ready” signal.
4. Estimate the traffic position of the impending launch and adjust launch signal to prevent unnecessary
formation flights.
5. Check aircraft in the groove for position so that if a bolter occurs it will not be in close proximity to the
launching aircraft.
6. Check for a clear deck and traffic forward and aft.
7. Check deck pitch.
Thank you very much!!! I have been waiting for this answer for a while now. I appreciate your help!
@@ArizonaGoldHunters I knew it was a while ago. I'm retired now and I guess I have no life.
I need a real mission
things they don't tell you - flight deck is hot as hell - it stinks to high heaven of jet fuel and exhaust and everything is covered in grease - if you work on deck they won't let you eat on the mess decks cause you're dirty still think it's cool?
Is this ABH now?
Why do they touch the deck before giving the go?
Gives them the chance to hold the launch until the pitching deck bobs upward so as to not shoot an airplane into a wave.
are the actual "shooter" "button presser math cruncher" allowed to use calculators
A lot of the math is done down below as they pass the jet's all up weight (fuel and weapons included) to the steam guys, who calibrate the right pressure for the catapult. When they push the big red button, that cat will exert just the right amount of force to get 'er in the air at above stall speed.
@@trottheblackdog When I was on the Eisenhower back in 1984 to 1988 we had a popcorn and ice cream stand right across from the steam room. Lol. It was so loud!
