      to be fair, i dont really tend to think about mongolia in the context of today all that much. at least from my experience with people around me, its not like mongolia is an "unknown" but more of a "forgotten" nation of today.
      Like obvs everyone knows about its massive history and the influence of genghis khan and the mongolian empire at its hight, but i feel like people tend to forget that its still around and didnt fully disappear like most huge empires.
      But yeah saying its "unknown" is a bit of a stretch.

      At least not at government level. Timor-Leste is more well known by Portuguese speaking countries/community (240 million speakers) than any non-portuguese speaking Southeast Asian country. In fact Timor-Leste has the highest democratic index and freeest media in Southeast Asia, and Timorese passport is more powerful in Europe and internationally than that of Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines etc except Singaporean and Malaysian passports which are top 2 in Southeast Asia in terms of Passport Power (free entry/no visa required).

    • @tropicaldimitri7374
      @tropicaldimitri7374 5 років тому +2

      @Arga ReaperX Most Timorese who go abroad to look for employment, are settled in England. Timorese students and government officials who travel to Portugal do not have worry about landing on many European airports without visas (thanks to passports). Media is an instrument of democracy and the voice of the people, and Timorese media are very vocal as they are protected by law, no one will get arrested for writing an article criticizing/comdemning the government. Not more than 20 years of independence, but there have already been several different presidents and prime ministers elected which is a sign of healthy democracy instead one man/party ruling for decades or eternity like in the history of other southeast Asian countries.

      @stealth fighter *Leste* means *East* in Portuguese. Portuguese and Tetum are the official languages of Timor-Leste. The Indonesian invasion of East Timor was illegal, it was always considered by the UN as a foreign territory of Portugal until 2002 though it was occupied by Indonesia from 1975 to 1999.

      Funny, didn't know Laos was occupied by Thailand cause Thailand by name has only existed since 1942. As for the still occupied territories taken from Lao Lan Xang kingdom, Siam was the original name of the aggressors not Thailand. Interesting fact, native Lao people call themselves "Tai," hence why Siam was changed to "Thai" land in order to unify and erase cultural/linguistic ethnic identities of the dominate ethnic Tai speaking peoples groups and form a "new" identity, much like being American can come from all different backgrounds.

    It’s always a dream to travel in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan... still saving more money and traveling experiences to visit there. Central Asia isn’t that easy to enter in, especially their visas.
    Nowadays among these countries, Laos is becoming more and more popular. Its traditional culture and history is pretty related to the northeast part of Thailand, also many traveling route suggest to visit Laos from (or combine with) Thailand, Vietnam or either Southwest part of China.
    Also Bhutan is becoming one of the place which many ppl plan to visit in their traveling list. Mostly the reason of its religion, beautiful landscape and the land of happiness.

      Well, it would have to depend on both outside and local definitions, because Asians don't think the Philippines belongs in Asia either, but like PNG, in "Oceania". But everyone else outside of Asia-Pacific simply assume that it's Asian.

      Well, to be straightforward, there's a clear line of division between North Africa and sub-saharan Africa: Religion. North Africa is predominantly Muslim while Sub-Saharan Africa is predominantly Christian. Mauritania is therefore in North Africa.
