    An unpopular opinion, but the idiocy of umpires is part of the appeal of baseball, not in the postseason though

    I don’t like the robo umps if it’s used instead of real umps…. It’s fine if they put in a challenge system with only a certain number of challenges.

    Bring them only when angel hernandez is calling balls and strikes.

    1:10 Isn't this the actual rule? That a strike is based on where it crosses home plate?

    They call it the ABS system. It stands for Automated Balls and Strikes system. I'm personally all in on the electronic strike zone. I don't even want a challenge system. Just let the umpire call exactly what the ABS system tells him every time. It will save time and it will be more accurate. Umpires have a million things to watch during the game. Is it a hit by pitch? Did the batter go around enough for it to count as a swing? Did the ball get fouled off? Is the runner safe or out at the plate/base? Is it a homer or a ground rule double? Did the ball go fair or foul? Was the runner picked off? Did the pitcher balk? Etc, etc, etc. There's no reason for them to have to make hundreds of ball/strike calls every single game on top of all that stuff. Let the umpires focus their attention on making the calls ABS can't make for them and let ABS handle the ball/strike calls because that's the one thing it is very good at. It will make for a more accurate game and a more accurate game is a better game. There is nothing worse than an umpire costing a team a win on a blown call. It happens all the time. Letting ABS handle *all* of the ball/strike calls would mitigate that drastically and that's a good thing. It's also important to keep in mind that it's impossible to fire any umpire and some of them are consistently terrible. Guys like A gel Hernandez must not care about their report cards because they are consistently terrible and MLB is stuck with them. MLB should do whatever it takes to make the game as accurate as possible. Let the umpires focus on all the other things they need to do so they can make more accurate calls and let ABS handle the one thing it's good at.

    100% agree. Fair for both pitchers and hitters. No more ejections as both batter and hitter know there's video evidence proving the pitch was a ball or a strike. Call it the Angel Hernandez Innovation.

    Angel Hernandez is there by the powers that be, to make sure this happens. That's why he's still employed, while everyone knows he's the most inept person.

    I think the automated system will be perfected such that there will be not challenges on balls and strikes because there's video evidence that the correct call was made every time, so no slowing down the game either.

    They didn't even have to institute that stupid pitch clock. If umpires called the strike zone like they should, that would knock off 20-30 minutes per game alone. Umpires never call the high strike. How many times have they not called a strike three, only to have the next pitch go for a ball 4 or a base hit, and lengthen the game by minutes just with that one lack of a call.

  • @michaelmarkowski204
    @michaelmarkowski204 3 місяці тому

    NFL and MLB are apples and oranges. in MLB, all you're focusing on re. automated calls is the strike zone area. In the NFL, challenges can happen all over the field, so I don't think they have near the technological expertise to have automation make every call. Thus, the challenge rule makes sense for the NFL. MLB can still have challenges for other rulings.

    I always did envision a possible future kind of deal where an automatic strike detector would flash a strike zone rectangle light over home plate if the ball was in the strike zone

    You can't actually bring in a position player to pitch if you're down six runs anymore lol They brought in rules, it's only if your down by eight, up by 10 or more in the 9th or in extras.

  • @ronpeacock9939
    @ronpeacock9939 3 місяці тому

    Sadly, I think the challenge system will stick... the full time pitch calling system is less liked than the human umps at the levels of the minors that have used it. Personally, the officiating isn't the problem.. providing that box to broadcasts has created more problems than anything.. to expect a human to be perfect calling 100MPH pitches it just superhuman.

    I'm 100% against the automated strike zone. Baseball is a game played and officiated by humans and always has been. Umpires have been part of the games since its inception and I'm against any automation of it. I'm fine with video replay, but not this.
