KitchenAid supposed to run at speed 4. Also all home grinders recommend almost freezing meat but not frozen
I wish you had covered how easy or hard they are to clean up and sanitize, and whether they are dishwasher safe. I think those are really big concerns with this type of equipment at home.
probably the most important thing! I have personally owned the KitchenAid mixer grinder attachment and you can put the whole thing in the dishwasher...
They all use the same grinder parts, so cleaning would be the same for all 3 aside from if one was not dish washer safe.
my experience with the blades is, always wash them by hand and dry immediately, or they have a tendency to rust.
That’s a good point. I didn’t think about that but this is worth considering!
If parts are made of aluminium, you should not put them in the dishwasher. The detergent corodes the metal over time....
Leah is clearly super knowledgeable and relays information extremely well. I guess everyone from The Meat Hook is awesome. Great episode. 👍
Nice! This episode, finally, felt like less of a commercial and provided me with great info
This is so awesome! I was looking into buying these grinders the other day and I'm happy to see a butcher review them
Great video. I have had the Kitchenaid grinder in metal for about two years and love it - I’d swear that it looks like the Gourmia... I would have thought that an equitable comparison would have been between all-metal grinder parts...
Exactly, The kitchen aid brand is so much better!
I've always wanted my own meat grinder at home. Thanks for this video.
More Leah please, she's a natural, knows her business very well.
Kitchen ad wins in my book it’s multi purpose and doesn’t take up a bunch of extra room for just one function.
Yup! That's my main factor. I already have a huge kitchen aid taking up counter space. I can store my meat grinder attachment in my cabinet with the other million attachments I have. I'm not a butcher and grinding up so much meat that I need another HUGE gadget to store
I bought the Gourmia and I love it!
Thank you for your very informative video... It is a big help for me to decide which grinder to get... I have already watched about 5 other videos on grinders... As I am on a budget and one person just wanting to grind small amounts now and then, this is a very helpful demonstration for me to watch...
The kitchenaid wins from a size/storage perspective. Those of us with normal size kitchens don’t have room to store a dedicated machine for meat grinding that we may only use a few times a year.
Kitchen Aid should come out with a metal version of their attachment.
@@YelkotsBantu they do - the actual meat grinder attachment is metal. The plastic grinder attachment they used in this video is intended more for vegetables. Source: we have both, bought in the last 2 months
@@DarrynJones exactly. Also, every chef I've ever watched grind burgers or make sausage has stressed the importance of putting your grinder in the freezer prior to starting.
Darryn Danger Jones what’s the reason behind that?!
SuperPhoReal I would imagine the cold temperature makes your blades as stiff as possible, providing stability and even better cuts possiibly
I've been grinding meat to make cat and dog food for 7+ years. The plastic Kitchenaid attachment cannot handle bones of any species and the plastic housing is known to crack under stress even without grinding bones. The instructions also specify to not use any speed above #4 with the grinder attachment. The model I use is the Tasin-108 which is the most popular model for raw pet diets as well as grinding meat for human consumption and sausage making. It uses universally sized blades and plates so getting replacements is relatively easy. It also has a reverse button.
I truly like your reviews.... mainly because they are so relatable. Thank you.
Should have showed a hand cranked one too!
I use ma mouth. It naturally adds seasoning too
I have to agree. I've still got my grandmother's old hand crank grinder, and it works great. The only time I use my mom's electric one is if I am making a big batch of sausage. The hand crank isn't that hard, so it's easy to do your own burger or meatloaf grinds with it. I hate listening to the whine of the motor on the electric ones. I figure anything making that loud and unpleasant a noise can't be good. Seeing them vibrate would terrify me. ;)
esther hand cranks for $10
@@stabenheimer 😉
Was googling grinders and found this. Sup Esther.
Thanks for the comment! We hope these are the grinders you were looking for.
Hmm no other comments?
I'm here!
@@mrcrapsalot6043 HEY!
Thanks for the video, very informational!
I believe Kitchen Aid recommends using the grinder on mixer setting 4. For versatility and space savings though, using a stand mixer as a meat grinder just makes more sense. The Kitchen Aid does a serviceable job grinding meats and is probably one of the best mixers out there. I'll stick with it.
i luv these vids. learning something new every time!! and i wanna learn how to make sausage 😁
Kitchen aid says to have it on speed 4. I use it to grind chuck, brisket, chicken breast, salmon etc. Does the job well. I personally pass it through twice.
Great review, I was just thinking about getting a home grinder!
I was impressed with the Gourmia. Cabellas sells very nice meat grinders from the basic to professionals to process wild game. Thank you for testing these products. Definitely, Gourmia takes the lead!
Good info! Been looking for a good meat grinder.
I'm sold on the Gourmia. Good test and review.
Nice I have the Gourmia at home. It’s awesome. Good idea using bones to feed pets. I’ve never tried raw food. Thanks!
You could have also tested the metal meat grinder attachment for KitchenAid. That's the one I use and would love to see it compared to the standalone grinders.
I decided to not waste my time on one of these because I love to make sausage and other processed meats, I went and bought a LEM big bite #5 0.25 hp grinder. It cost $ 275.99. and I am so glad I did! It's a monster and does the job I need.
Very Worth It vid, Esther! I don't have any complaints about my Kitchenaid, but I have been starting to question whether I should look for a stand-alone grinder as I am doing more of it. However, I might want a more pro grade grinder if I am going to sacrifice storage area. Any tips on even better grinders?
Great video! Weston Pro Series Meat Grinder is the best for me!
In reference to the kitchen aid and speed u need to read the directions. It says always grind on speed 4. So of course u won't have positive results on higher speeds duh
Good day Esther, I had the Kitchenaid plastic grinder attachment and I upgrded to the metal one they came out with. I found a good difference between the two, the metal one is much more performant, to my opinion. If I may suggest, can you do update your grinder review with a trial on the the Kitchenaid metal grinder. Thanks for your good work, I really like your channel. Cheers from Canada.
I think choosing the cheapest model of kitchenaid grinder attachment was a little unfair. Maybe redo the test with the metal kitchenaid deluxe. It can be found at around $80. The plastic one was tested against 2 metal ones and is an attachment to that mixer which in my opinion makes it more versatile. What do y'all think?
I agree
Leah is awesome, she should make cuts breakdown videos
I agree. But I wish the other two showed up in the video. maybe we could have seen them do a meat grinding experiments with these grinders lol.
If the meat does not come out rite it is closed clean blade and meat plate
You should've used a metal attachment for the Kitchen Aid. Much better quality.
Higher speed = meat forced harder into blade and disc which will somewhat emulsify the grind. Gotta know the science behind it.
Actually, the faster the meat go through the grinder, the less it heats up, and the less emulsified it gets.
Don't use the Kitchenaid grinder on High and don't get the chap white one... get the all metal one!
All metal kitchenaid attachment?
Where is the all metal kitchen aid grinder, not this cheap white one
I got the metal heavy duty 1 at Best Buy
You can get good third-party KA grinder attachments.
Speed should be set to 4 when grinding, if they bothered to read instructions..and it matters bc it changes the grind quality if it's faster or slower then what is recommended.
*I love your hair dye, Esther!*
the good old hand cranked one is the best always
Also, kitchenaid make a metal grinding attachment....
Agreed. The metal grinder is much better.
Kitchen aid also have a metal grinder attachment as well
Can you use the blade from the 2rd grinder in the KitchenAid grinder attachment?
Thanks for helping me choose my future meat grinder
I can't imagine any of these brands recommend grinding bones.
They don't.
Kitchenaid was supposed to be on number 4, nothing more lol
Can you review Aobosi as well? I was thinking to buy Gourmia till i see Aobosi. Not sure which one doing better job. Thanks.
I have a Hobart brand meat grinder. Works great for processing dear meat with pork fat!
I hope you could test the metal meat grinders for kitchenaid
thanks it was a review video
KA grinder overheats fast. I’ve ground an elk with one, but immediately upgraded to an LEM grinder after that experience.
Can you put the blade from the expensive one in the Gormia?
They got a metal kitchenaid version attachment as well.
Does the Gourmia have a stuffer attachment, or is it just the grinder?
Can you do one for meat slicers?
great tip for cleaning out one of these is to drop some plain white bread in at the end of the grind .
Why does it have to be white???
@@JHorse508 Because if it's any other color the police will break down your door shoot your dog, then shoot the bread to death and sprinkle crack on it.
@@alexmiller7505 😯🤔😂
@@JHorse508 You had to ask? Of course it had better be white! Plus that, it has to be the end of the loaf. Use white end pieces between different meats, too.
@@nora22000 I already got my answer from Alex, but thanks for your input.
the Eater expanded universe!
This is an amazing comment.
Awesome timing. I was about to buy the kitchen aid attachment this Friday. Not anymore.
52chevy3100 kitchenaid makes a metal grinder attachment (I have one) and it works WAY better than that plastic one. I think they should have reviewed that one as well.
The KitchenAid all metal grinder is much better. But it's also relatively new having been introduced less than a year ago. I have the older one that has a plastic housing. It's fine for occasionally grinding a few pounds of beef, pork, or chicken. So depending on your expectations, and if you can get one for half the price of the new all metal version, it may be good enough.
I swear I never comment or read.. your just too exciting for it
Love the series.
Wow thanks
I love the meat hook peeps. She is my favorite for sure.
Any comparison about mixers?
The kitchen aid attachment sells for $25 on amazon.
Quality info = quality video
I’m stick to my hand grindher it’s a killer work out keeping my arms swole💪
Gourmia GMG525 Meat Grinder is definitely the best meat grinder under $75 - works so well.
RTM, speed 4 on the KA for optimum performance.
MASTER butcher! MASTER scrambler! MASTER janitor! Eater is so self-absorbed! 😂
I agree...the sound is grating. I am very sensitive to sounds. When looking at reviews, if I can't hear it, then I won't buy it. Even the most expensive is too weak for my needs. Can you do a review of higher ends. Loved watching you two. Two lovely women always holds my attention. ;)
I own the Gourmia grinder and for 60 dollars it is a great investment
I saw Amazon reviews saying there's black stuff that comes out when you grind, did that ever happen to you?
Dol _ I haven’t had any problems with that but I believe the reason there’s black stuff coming out in the grind is because the parts of the grinder are not cold enough when starting the grind. I always put my parts in salted ice water for about 15 minutes before the grinding process, and then put it back in the ice water before I grind a second time. Hope this helps
@@SilentTrip could also be aluminum powder if you put the parts in the dishwasher it's not all stainless steel and it will become powdery to the touch I learned this the hard way had to throw away my meat grinder. (I prewashed the dishwasher only with water before washing it because I couldn't get it clean with just handwashing).
Could you guys please do a remake of this video using the metal KitchenAid attachment?
I have a pro meat grinder at home, but I find my food processor (Breville) is the best method.
Need to perform another test using metal attachments on all 3 brands for a true comparison
I was just researching meat grinders and sort of settled on the Gourmia but wasn't sure. This vid is perfect timing for me and I am going to snap up the Gourmia. Love Esther but someone needs to buy her a stool.
Alright, I'm coming off of seeing 'The Menu' last weekend and having used to make my own burgers with my father to sneak them into the show. He sadly is no longer with us and when I saw that movie, I snuck a Whopper into the show instead of a homemade Andy burger and It sucked. Would it be worth it to buy one of these things or ask the family for one since Christmas is coming up? The other thing I'm thinking is the chuck/brisket mix since no grocery store will mix a grind for you.
She's so entertaining!
yo we didn't get a close up of the kitchenaid grind at the end, but we did for the other 2 wth briuh
Surprised to see the master meat cutter didn't grease the meat grinder plate before grinding. Metal on metal is good way to wear out the knife and plate prematurely.
Thanks so much, I just ordered this Gourmia and will be returning the Cuisinart I got today, tommorrow, because this review, AND the reviews on Amazon confirmed to me a Carnivore , I made the right choice, and it's 40 bucks less !😊
I have a meat grinder that's every bit of 60 years old. It's was my granddad's, then my dad's, now mine. It's seen thousands of pounds of venison through it
Ik kitchenaid but never heard of the other two, more popular would be LEM or Weston
That's the cheaper Kitchenaid mixer; the better one is all metal for $99. The speed is set at the #4 position. You never go high speed.
why have the last 2 vids been released as part of season 1?
No Cabella’s Grinder?
I grind meats once a month so Kitchenaide is best for me...cut meat into long strips and feed it in. Easy and safe. Make sure some fat is involved for the grinding; add drops of oil down the neck if the meat seems to stick. Speed setting is 3 max...faster isn't necessary. I wouldn't grind bones for my dog but I will make stock and broth.
Is there any reason why you could not add spices as you grind up the meat????.... for example pork and Italian spices for sausage...? Or adding salt and pepper to beef for hamburgers?
RIP MF DOOM. He was the biggest fan of meat grinders.
Wish you reviewed more brands but just really happy to see some humans reviewing these products instead of robotic voices trying to sell me stuff on amazon.
Kramer and Newman in the kitchen
When you grind meat... dose it have to be a room temperature or frozen?
Randy Tillman - My research so far says to have the meat partially frozen (firm, not hard) and the grinder parts cold. The grinder creates heat during use and can make non-frozen meat results unsatisfactory,
I think you mixed the 2 price points
I wish they had tested the products for an entire day and tasted the meat they produced. I've heard these products some times produce metal shards in the meat.
You should have ground pork shoulder up and see if the grinders can handle that. I havent seen any of these kind of grinders be able to grind any beef that has any tough stringy texture to it.If you want a grinder that you dont have to worry about what kind of meat you grind in it spend some cash and buy a nice table top commercial grinder because ive used just about all of these Chinese junkers and there all junk, they are good for grinding ham and lunchmeat to make some spreads .
I can only imagine if someone’s finger got caught going through the bottom portion that is spinning around while the meat grinder is going if they grab a hold of the machine to study it or whatever. It would literally snap their finger off!
Leah, id pay for online classes!
I don't grind enough to warrant a separate device taking up space. The Kitchenaid works just fine for me since I don't cram freaking bones through it.
In the vdo you guys said price of the gourmia was $60 but the amazon link provided was over $200 and then the altra you said was most expensive but again the link provided, price is $80. So maybe in the vdo you guys switched the prices?
Same here, i found a different one by gourmia that was roughly the price they said. and the reviews are great.
Edit: its not a gourmia actually, but it still performs well.

Gourmia is currently $59.99 on Amazon (10/24/22). Altra currently $96.59 and up.
I have the Altra and it definitely doesn't shake like that or make that sound. Also my buttons don't wiggle like yours do... You might have gotten a bum unit.
Please do food slicers next!
I was waiting for 'this one time at band camp'.
It would be better if you had the metal 100$ grinder for the KitchenAid in my opinion and #4 speed
The Gormia gets a lot of negative reviews. Apparently the chrome finish flakes off the shiny parts and can leave black metallic residue on the meat. I have to admit that my Kitchenaid could occasionally also leave some small areas with dark residue too. I scoop it off. The Gormia clearly grinds better but if I upgrade I think it should be fully stainless steel.
Don't understand the chicken bones to compare meat grinders. But thanks for the video I know which one I'm buying.
