Glad to see you back 💜💙
I’ve seen videos that say if you are scared they can tell and it can make them scared so you’re more likely to get bitten if you don’t handle them confidently. That beak is pretty scary but it’s got a big beautiful bird behind it. Hope everything goes well with the new addition to your family.
Don’t know if you remember me but I’m the one who’s sister got them a budgie on Black Friday sale without telling them about the bird until they already brought it over. He is doing fine and I spend at least 4 hours in his room with him every day since I got him but he refuses to leave the cage even tho I leave the gate open. At first he would leave but he was still sitting in one place the whole time but I think he got use to the cage and now he doesn’t leave it. He plays in it and doesn’t look unhappy but I worry about him not getting exercise. When I’m cleaning the cage he finds a spot to sit and usually doesn’t move until he knows he can get back in the cage and I don’t know what to do about it.
Also he is going through his first molt right now and it scared the crap out of me because videos I’ve seen saying if there poop was bright green and watery then they are going to die but it was only because he was stressed 😮‍💨😭 it went back to normal after the first day of molting. I haven’t gotten him to take a bath since I got him and that was supposed to help soften the new pin feathers so I’m kinda lost on how to help him since he still won’t let me touch him I can’t help him break them.

Oh wow, you also have plenty of birds! Lol, I’ve never been more intimidated by a bird before but I’m slowly getting over it. Just gotta build that trust.

Parrots need more sleep than you think, I have heard. It makes their temperament sweeter.

@@Sarah-xw2ff I am fully aware that parrots need 10 to 12 hours a day. I was wondering what your comment was referring to and why you made it?

@@thebirdcouple Not all birds do better with more sleep, generalizing parrots is just not ideal. I also don't think Rio is hormonal, but hard to tell with limited footage.

@@Phoenix.Sparkles from what I read and seen, birds do in general need that much sleep. It’s the first thing Bird Tricks always says in most of her videos. Along with a good diet, makes for a great bird. Rio is hormonal only because it’s hormone season and he has chosen me so whenever I give him attention he regurgitates. We are still figuring each other out and I’m certain we can curb this behavior.

The cage he was sitting in at the store was just heavy metal poisoning waiting to happen, flaky paint is a huge no no and I personally like to avoid painted cages entirely, non painted stainless steel cages are and will always be the best type of cage. Thick bars for macaws and cockatoos, especially hyacinth macaw.
But I don't think you should worry too much about him biting, he warned you long before he actually bit you, giving several warnings and trying to communicate, but you didn't listen and he wanted to escape, but couldn't fly, so you got bit. Pay close attention to his body language and wants/needs, respect him like he was another human and you are much less likely to get bitten.

@@stefandomovski What do you mean? I didn’t clip him. He’s been moved from home to home and I want to give him his last forever home. I’d say that’s a rescue.
