Glad to see you back 💜💙 I’ve seen videos that say if you are scared they can tell and it can make them scared so you’re more likely to get bitten if you don’t handle them confidently. That beak is pretty scary but it’s got a big beautiful bird behind it. Hope everything goes well with the new addition to your family. Don’t know if you remember me but I’m the one who’s sister got them a budgie on Black Friday sale without telling them about the bird until they already brought it over. He is doing fine and I spend at least 4 hours in his room with him every day since I got him but he refuses to leave the cage even tho I leave the gate open. At first he would leave but he was still sitting in one place the whole time but I think he got use to the cage and now he doesn’t leave it. He plays in it and doesn’t look unhappy but I worry about him not getting exercise. When I’m cleaning the cage he finds a spot to sit and usually doesn’t move until he knows he can get back in the cage and I don’t know what to do about it. Also he is going through his first molt right now and it scared the crap out of me because videos I’ve seen saying if there poop was bright green and watery then they are going to die but it was only because he was stressed 😮‍💨😭 it went back to normal after the first day of molting. I haven’t gotten him to take a bath since I got him and that was supposed to help soften the new pin feathers so I’m kinda lost on how to help him since he still won’t let me touch him I can’t help him break them.

The cage he was sitting in at the store was just heavy metal poisoning waiting to happen, flaky paint is a huge no no and I personally like to avoid painted cages entirely, non painted stainless steel cages are and will always be the best type of cage. Thick bars for macaws and cockatoos, especially hyacinth macaw. But I don't think you should worry too much about him biting, he warned you long before he actually bit you, giving several warnings and trying to communicate, but you didn't listen and he wanted to escape, but couldn't fly, so you got bit. Pay close attention to his body language and wants/needs, respect him like he was another human and you are much less likely to get bitten.

I've been fostering birds for the past 14 years. I have to say 2 things really alarm me about this video: 1. Fresh foods are not good for birds, because it makes them very hormonal. I have a Green Cheek Conure, (Normal mutation, I think)? at the moment, (personal bird, not foster.) DNA male, 4 years this coming June. He's on ZuPreem pellets, (Fruit, and Natural,) medium bird, as well as Pure Fun, Sensible Seed, and Smart Selects seed mixes, medium bird, as well as the Real Rewards series of treats for medium birds, and now that I know he likes them ... treat sticks. Water gets changed daily, as well as a vitamin suppliment added. I am his second owner, and he has not been hormonal with me, at all, since I received him, (January 9, 2024.) According to previous owner, he was not hormonal with her, at all, since she purchased him as a fully weaned baby, (September 6, 2020.) Why is that, you ask? Because neither of us ever fed him fresh foods. 2. Beak and Feather Disease. Birds can be born with this, and not show signs, until something stresses them out to the point where their immune system starts showing the signs. Birds can also be carriers, and not spread to other birds/other animals. The environment where the bird comes from does not matter, at all. Very good breeders can be stricken down with this disease, and it can come from a bird, or birds, who were carriers, or born with this, that they didn't know about. No fault of anyone's here. No fault. In conclusion, I'm not from IL, I'm from CA. I have not ever heard of this store, so I am not standing up for this person, at all. I do agree with you on 1 thing. Birds should not be kept in environments with other animals, (especially, other exotic animals.) I am extremely sorry for your loss. I just came across this channel randomly. You should do an introduction on all your birds, and story times on how you got them. I do enjoy that. Thanks for posting, but please, get your facts straight, so that beginner people aren't chased away from getting birds ... maybe from the only bird place near them. Because not all pet stores are bad, not all breeders are bad. Like I said before, birds can be born with any number of diseases that come up negative upon testing, and then start showing signs, because they were a carrier of the disease, and something stressed them out. So please ... get your facts straight. I'm not trying to insult, or offend. I'm just trying to point out some things that were factually incorrect. Again, thanks for posting, and I'm sorry for your loss.
