yeah but it's different than just the "fast" parameter. On nightmare the monsters are a tick faster than having just the fast parameter activated on uv.
@@pakasokoste it's the sameish movement speed for most monsters (demons, spectres move way faster) but they all attack faster on NM, as in they don't wait a few seconds to gain aggro which makes hitscan enemies way more dangerous. but projectiles also are flying WAY faster.
I just beat Doom II 100% pistol start on uv with fast monsters enabled. You get used to pinkies, chaingunners and revenants are way worse. Oh also pain elementals. They shoot out lost souls like a freaking machine gun
Not true. The missing key is in a secret map (31), thus not mandatory, and with a bit of skill you could skip most of that map, making the missing key not required.
Modern sourceports fix the missing yellow key automatically. There's also the fixed IWAD that was included in id anthology, and now you can get it from GOG.

Oh... that's what I played as a kid. I knew it was Doom, but when I picked Doom I and Doom II later, I didn't find any familiar levels. I kinda forgot about it, but when I saw Wormhole level, memories kicked back in. I was really young and didn't know how to play, so I never got past Mill (that's another thing I do remember - the name of the level). And that's when I learned about IDDQD and IDKFA - before that I loaded a save and tried to do something, but failed miserably. That's why I remember the beginning of that level :)
In all my years, since 96, I played TnT but I kept trying to beat the last level, over and over. Never ever figured it out. See I had always thought you set it up with the rocket as per usual on the Icon of Sin. But I didn't realise till about a year ago that you use the BFG instead. Mind blown 21 years later.

I know maps 2 and 9 have never been completed in vanilla doom and require crazy luck. But with your skills, have you ever considered trying a 30nm 100% secrets movie run? Or for plutonia? It seems there's nothing else left for you to accomplish.

That does leave something for someone else, maybe someone crazy enough comes along in the future, but not very likely :)

doom 2 nm will probably be my last speedrun (assuming I reach my goal time). I like heretic and hexen, and I would have liked to done speedruns for both of them (my 1 video for hexen was quite low effort), but the lack of sourceports for those games makes it a bit difficult to get a working demo and a good quality video. The main reason though is that I don't want to invest a lot of time into it, also veovis is decent at both of them, but I'm sure they can be improved further. So to sum up, I would have liked to do more, but lack of time + motivation means I'll probably never get around to it.

Its because in modern Doom monsters and surroundings blend into each other, in the old Doom everything looks like it should and everything has a purpose. At least thats how I see it.

The maps 11-20 and 21-30 for TNT have been done with nightmare all secrets, I think map 1-10 would be too much for anyone. Map 07-09 for tnt would be too extreme, and map 02 and 04 become completely different where it would just be complete madness to even try to look at making the episode possible, let alone the whole wad. As for plutonia, I believe maps 1-10, 11-20 and 21-30 can perhaps be done without too much trouble, but the chance of going through all of it in a single run would probably be around 1 in a 1.000.000, so I'd say none of them are ever going to be done :)
I'm not sure, I don't know how lucky I got when I did this. I'd say plutonia on nightmare was more difficult, but my 2nd clear a few months ago wasn't difficult at all. So I think my current doom 2 nightmare record is best when it comes to difficult + good time and effort combination. My most optimized speedrun however is my ultimate doom episode 3 in 3:33, the time is so incredible I would never want to run against it ever. I plan to improve the doom 2 nightmare time soon though, so I expect that to be my best in the future, heh.
I was interested to find out you did Map 31 as well. When I last saw this on UV speed I think the player skipped the two secret levels entirely. I'm looking forward to the day when AV gets done in UV Speed

nah, I never want to play this wad again. It was fun to do though, but there's so much else that would be a better use of time than to try and optimize something like this. There's a lot of long open areas with few monsters that are kind of unintresting in this wad, lots of time on trivial things, now that it's done I need something shorter.
I love DOOM, but the only thing I really don't like is the infinite maze, click here to open there, it's very very confusing to me, because I'm SO bad at know where to go, remember my way back, etc.
This is NOT a criticism post by any means. Your skills are insane and honestly I would classify you as a Doom God. You deserve that title not just for your skills either but for your knowledge of all of the maps and how you can exploit them such as clipping through the walls with no cheats activated. Anyways, so my post is to point out how I noticed you spend a lot of time killing the monsters..now I know in a lot of these cases you have to kill them to advance onwards..but maybe you could try finding more ways around them perhaps to decrease your time. Again, this is not a criticism post just more of an observation
This game is an absolute masterpiece. It's crazy how this game can still hold up and be a blast in 2020. This game will be fun forever.
