One of the best interviews I've seen. No interruptions, great stories. Noddy sounds great and in top form 🙂🙂 Noddy Holder is back, wouldn't it be great if he did an unplugged accoustic version of some of Slade hits
I’ve wanted to hear him do acoustic songs for a LONG time!!! He’s got one of the greatest voices in rock history and an acoustic set would let his voice shine through even more
Great interview, so lovely to learn about the background of Slade and the industry etc, These 70's Xmas songs will still be being played in another 50 years. Their longevity is timeless, when other more modern songs have been and gone. I love Slade and was 9 when I started listening to 'Cuz I love you', learning the violin at school, so when Jim Lea played the violin I was hooked. I still play Slade's 'Greatest Hits' CD in my car today. A great era of music in my opinion.
Watching and listening to Noddy, as a 10 yr old and 50 years on as a 60yr old, I just feel so privileged to have been born when I was, grow up when I did and live long enough to watch this super interview with my hero. Thank you Noddy.
What a gentleman our Noddy is, if you never catched Slade live you will never know what you missed, i was not in the least surprised they went down so well at Reading, they were the best live band i ever saw, and in Noddy they had the best rock voice ever too.
Credit to Tony for creating a professional easy flowing interview listening and guiding allowing Noddy to share his stories without interruption, even though he is a natural raconteur. I’ve done many radio interviews with 70s & 80s artists myself and it’s always a fine balance allowing the artist space and still guiding the guest at the same time. Noddy’s linear memory is razor sharp which gives so much more depth to the stories and facts, quite rare. Always thought it ironic that that they recorded MCE in New York yet never cracked the U.S in the seventies with lots of tours. Queen and 10CC to my knowledge divided the royalties out whoever wrote the song, keeping a fair democracy within their bands. Therefore must have been hard for Dave and Don having to continue to tour when Noddy and Jim moved on with their royalties as their life pensions, credit to them though for such a great batch of songs. Slade in Flame the movie I thought was excellent, often overlooked but a gritty take on the music business. It just occurred to me that Dave Hill and Tony Blackburn in their 70s heyday looked very similar aside from the hairstyles!
Really kind thank you. We had the luxury of time which isn't always available. He was a joy to talk to afterwards too. He had time for everyone. Nice man.
Love you Noddy , big part of my life , I’m still a Slade fanatic at 64 and used to have The Band pics on my wall . And I made a mirror disc top hat to hounered Noddy . ❤ Rock on Noddy x
Yep .I'm 63 and Slade have been around my whole life . Remember the school and local disco's and Slade were the top band and also Sweet . Happy days . Top man Nod ...and Dave 🎶👍💯
What a star. I hope I still have wit and humour when I'm 77. Delightful to hear from him in such an unhurried way. Others commented that you didn't interrupt him, I don't think it was by choice. Once he starts talking you feel compelled to listen. Thanks Tony.
What an inspirational interview Neville (Noddy) Holder. My brother was recently diagnosed with Cancer, but he, like you tries to maintain a "Positive Attitude" We remember you from the 70's along with Sweet, Mud, and Co. All the best Noddy, may you stay well.
Great bloke Noddy, one of a few people I would love to meet. He is just one of the lads and for all he achieved, he is still the same. Stay strong Noddy.
One of the best interviews with noddy ive seen in a while! You didnt ask him the same questions as other interviewers do! I feel as though i learnt new things about noddy and slade! Very well done indeed! Slade are for life, not just for christmas!
Lovely interview with a lovely bloke one of my teenage heroes great to see him in good health. Slade were the first band I saw live great memories for me attached to Slade’s music
What a delightful interview: what a delightful character Noddy Holder is. It’s now 40 years since I first heard Slade on Stage and was introduced to Rock’n’Roll. All I can say to all the members of the band is “thankyou!”
what a great guy noddy is. what a great interview my friend, im 64 now and i can remember the excitement of watching slade on top of the pops, you only got one chance to see it on a thursday night. i still have my orignal singles i bought with my paper round money they cost 50p at the time . i bought my first acoustic guitar that year from woolworths. Thanks guys tony leicestershire uk
It’s great to see Noddy in the best interview ever….he’s comfortable, he’s animated and it’s obvious that in this interview, he’s so proud of his (and Slades) achievents. Part of my upbringing within music. And….part of the British slant on music and survival in the crappy early 70’s music industry within its own time-scale. Top job.
C’mon Noddy, please write & record a few new songs & videos with Jim, Dave & Don while all 4 of you still can. It’s what every Slade fan wants to hear & see & will go straight to number 1! PLEEZE!!!
I saw Slade 10 times from 1973-92 in theatres, halls & little clubs in Liverpool & Birkenhead. They were 'my' band! I also saw Nod recently on the Tom Seals tour at The Lowry, he was incredible! He broke the news of his illness & I have to admit, I had a little cry. Good on ya Sir Neville, may you live forever!
Growing up listening to Slade, they are more than just this Xmas song. My first album was Slayed followed closely by Slade Alive, both iconic albums. Loved the Glam era and Slade were my favorite band, still are to this day. Great interview this and could listen to Noddy for hours. ❤
We were at Reading. We went en masse from Wales every year without fail and Slade were phenomenal. It was exactly like Nod describes it, everyone there grew up loving Slade and couldn’t believe that they were going to play at Reading.
Excellent interview. Love Nod , he's such a down to earth bloke. The enthusiasm he had telling his story of those great slade days in the 70's . I remember being a kid going to discos and slade was always played ,i was 12 in 1973 Nostalgia at it's best 👍😁🎶🎵
I really enjoyed this interview, after I got over the shock of seeing who the interviewer was!! I doubt that you'll remember me Tony, but I worked on the switchboard for the rival, commercial, station at the same time as you, in the late 80s. You graciously allowed me and my daughter in to watch you doing your show, I can't remember who the newsreader was but she got her words slightly mixed up and said shum shunsine, which maxde us all (including her, because you commented on it) laugh. My name is Jenni. I don't live on Merseyside any more having moved a few times and landed in Portsmouth over 20 years ago.
What a great chat that was. I love Noddy, always have done and always will do but as many others have said below, the interviewer was brilliant. I don't know exactly what it was that he did but he just seemed to effortlessly ensure the interview flowed perfectly. Thank you.
Great interview. Noddy is a champion. I’m from Australia and I remember my sisters, cousins and neighbours loved Slade so I grew up hearing their music but I was too young to see Slade live and I don’t even recall seeing them on tv so I didn’t know what they really looked like apart from the album covers, especially Slayed?. I credit Slade for my love of hard rock and rock n roll.
An absolutely awesome interview with noddy been a slade fan since 73 still have all my early records and play them occasionally deeply scratched of course but it doesn't matter one of the greatest bands of all time..💥⚡⚡💥
Noddy is such a beautiful person. I just love his passion for life. I'd give anything to hear him sing afew bars of my oh my. The best.....bar none, pure rock voice. Better than plant, rogers, daltry. He has such a strong vocal, an absolute gift.
I totally agree.Nods voice is unique you only need to hear a few bars and is immediately recognisable. He comes across as just a really down to earth bloke. Top man Nod 👍🎶
Brilliant! I can still feel that magical feeling of the 70's glamrock era. This instantly takes me right back to those days. Magical! I dont think people realise just how great a song writer Noddy was and how seriously good slade were. They were easily up there with Mcartney and jagger as song writers.
Great interview Tony . I watched it 6 months ago and again just now . Nod is such a nice bloke .He's the sort of bloke I'd love to have a chat with over a pint or a coffee . I'd love to see them all perform together again every now and then
Slade were my favourite band when I was a teenager. It was so exciting listening to the chart at lunchtime, I think on a Tuesday. I was always late for school on that day, because Slade nearly always went straight to number 1 or very close to it. The number 1 song obviously was the last one on the programme, which was around 1 o'clock, the time I should have been in school. But there was no way I was going to miss the DJ saying ' and straight in at number 1, is Slade'. Amazing band, that brought fun into music. Love you guys, you gave me a lot of happiness when growing up. All the best, greatest respect. Richard.
May 1975 was when that series of Zeppelin gigs at Earls court happended I sadly did not go but bought the Melody Maker thaat had a wonderful article abd photos of the gig. It was Kashmir not Katmandu you were referring too. My nan always said she knew your mom many moons ago, having lived on the Mossley estate in Bloxwich for yonks.
Nod & Dave are both top blokes I just watched an interview with dave from 7 months ago and they both mirror what each other say . They both say they have loved their lives and their long time in Slade ..They have had a ball that's lasted their whole lives . Keep on rockin' lads 🎶👍 My first memory of slade was at school in 1973 age 12 , hearing their songs at the school and local disco's.Happy days
What a fantastic interview Tony, you gave him a lot of space and didn't interrupt him, what an honest goodhearted individual is Noddy.
That is by far the best interview I have ever seen, fascinating.
Very kind
Thank you for letting Nod talk without constant interruption. A proper conversation
A generous guest

Nodd’s a great English working class hero who done good with his life and career.

Superb ! Thanks Noddy for being there from the start to today Slade we're the greatest band in the seventies. Glam rock ! What music we had to enjoy.
What a wonderful interview, the lad interviewing is top drawer.
Now I've not been called a lad in a long long time...very kind of you. Glad you enjoyed it.
Noddy was his usual generous self in that interview. Glad he's on the road to recovery. He had one of the best voices ever for rock n roll.
Great interview. Great man is our Noddy. Thank you Tony Snell.
Great interview,I could listen to noddy all day, what a legend
First album i bought at the age of 13 in 1973 was SLAYED. Still got it. Long live Noddy he's a straight up gem.

Best interview ever seen brilliant.
An outstanding songwriter aided and abetted by the wonderful Jim Lea. Loved Slade then and still love them now.
It's hard to believe Noddy is 3 years off 80.
He still sounds and looks like a man in his early 60s !

Saw Dave Hill's interview from five days ago, yesterday, which lead me to Noddy, here. Both legends, and nice to know they're still best mates.
A very honest and humble person.
