      @@JaegerWrenching Didn't think bout it but I forgot to mention I have a 22 L5P and the file seems a bit different.
      Under Torque Management, there are "Vane Position - Low Alt", "Vane Position - Med Alt" and "Vane Position - High Alt." Under each of the "Vane Position" tabs there are sub tabs e.g. "Ref Map C1", "Ref Map C2", "Ref Map D1" etc. Which one of those tabs should I adjust? I want to say it's "Ref Map C1" under "Vane Position - Low Alt" but I cant be certain.

      The “banana smoothie” makes me laugh. You have to be cocky to think you’re going to kill the 6r140 on tune alone. You can make 600 or very close to it on tune alone in the 16+ little less in 11-14 and that’s not gonna hurt the 6r140

    Great explanation.
    So is there any more or less fuel used at idle from one setting to another?
    If closed helps with the off-idle starting torque, does having the rumble tune affect the performance while driving, starting off, etc or does the actuation of the vanes happen fast during tip-in of the throttle?

  • @tylerwhite102
    @tylerwhite102 Рік тому

    So all and all. What’s better for the truck in general. I have the ez link and they just released a rumble & a hiss tune. Want whatever will be better for the truck in the end but still sound good

    • @JaegerWrenching
      @JaegerWrenching  Рік тому

      It doesn't matter which one you choose, the vanes move so often that the little time it spends at idle doesn't change anything for longer or less turbo/engine life. I will say a hiss tune will yield slightly hotter idle EGTs. About 270F with a rumble tune and 340F with a hiss tune. That temp is negligible, about a 5% swing in the total allowable EGT scale. Don't over think it.

    • @JaegerWrenching
      @JaegerWrenching  4 роки тому +1

      That's because your's is waste gated along with variable vane. When the waste gate opens it lets out the whooshing sound! Only model years 11-14 are like that. The 2015-2020 are VGT only.

    • @zeus6.717
      @zeus6.717 4 роки тому

      JaegerWrenching honestly is there any point for the waste gate on a VGT turbo, it sounds cool as fuck but i’m thinking of changing it out for a 15+ style turbo.

    • @FlyinRaptorJesus
      @FlyinRaptorJesus 4 роки тому

      The spool up at idle is actually nothing to do with the waste gate. It is cycling the vanes

    • @zeus6.717
      @zeus6.717 4 роки тому

      FlyinRaptorJesus really??? i figured it was that cuz the wastegate under load makes a different sound than the spook up and spoil down at idle, do you know why the turbo dose that? or is it a matter of the tuner it’s running

    • @JaegerWrenching
      @JaegerWrenching  4 роки тому

      @@zeus6.717 The noise you're hearing is from a vane sweep and the waste gate opening during the vane sweep at idle. So technically it's from both the waste gate and the vanes making noise simultaneously.

  • @Huskydog78
    @Huskydog78 Рік тому

    I'm late to the party, but great video!
    Is there a point that too much hiss will create too much back pressure, or should the actuator min position calibration prevent that?
    Which maps (if any) will achieve the same in a SID209 2016 3.2 Ranger?
    Presently having multiple turbo failure dramas and my gut feel its something back pressure related. Have just today installed a manifold pressure test point. Not sure what sort of pressure would be considered excessive for this engine though.
    Anyway, cheers from south australia

    • @JaegerWrenching
      @JaegerWrenching  Рік тому +1

      It's not every going to be "too closed" at idle, your main worry is the ratio of boost to back pressure, as that determines the turbos efficiency and shaft speed and thrust load..

    • @Huskydog78
      @Huskydog78 Рік тому

      @JaegerWrenching thanks for the reply.
      I had the new turbo fitted with a shaft speed sensor.
      I fitted a pressure test point in the exhaust manifold. Also fitted pressure/temp test point in IC hot-side pipe.
      Wanted to have as much data available before i go back to the tuners.
      What pressure ratio would you consider to be maximum? (this is a modified PX1 turbocharger).

  • @reppjr7652
    @reppjr7652 Рік тому

    On a 6.0 Powerstroke the jet engine sound or hissing come from a closed or opened vane within your tune?

    • @JaegerWrenching
      @JaegerWrenching  Рік тому

      Technically the sound is generated at the turbine wheel, IE: 10 blade turbine makes more jet engine/high pitch whistle and 13 blade 05-07 less whistle. But the vanes play a big role in the hiss portion and the turbine blade count makes the whistle.

      I don’t quite understand your question? I’ll say this, you can do this with any Variable Geometry Turbo = VGT for short. Some companies call them a VNT or variable Nozzle Turbo. The fact is any turbo that has vanes/nozzle you can do this with. That’s every diesel produced by any company currently today. So yes a stock turbo you can do this with.

    Awesome video. Any difference in premature wear and tear on the truck to consider when deciding which sound to pick?

    • @JaegerWrenching
      @JaegerWrenching  2 роки тому +2

      Does not matter, some say having a rumble tune prolongs soot build up but these turbos move vane position so often and have a built in sweep algorithm meaning it sweeps from 0% all the way to 100% after x amount of time to keep the vane free. So no issues choosing either.

      @JaegerWrenching  3 роки тому +2

      @@jessequentin4441 Yes 1.0 is 100 and 0.0 is like a fixed vane or non variable vane turbo. There are not any safety limits in HP tuners or any other software, as a matter of fact you can brick your ECU just by re-flashing it, requiring a Ford scan tool or knowledge in ECU bench flashing to make it usable again.

    Which one would be the most efficient? I'm assuming the hiss tune, although I'd hate to have to listen to it for extended idle periods.
    Great video btw

      Seaside Metal Design, At idle it doesn’t matter. Our fuel amount being ingested by the engine at idle doesn’t change when altering vane position, this means it won’t effect efficiency when idling. There is still enough exhaust flow even with the vanes closed all the way. Also there is a give and take with power and efficiency. The more fuel the more power and the more energy consumed. But consuming more fuel and being able to convert that fuel into power at low RPM can payoff in the long run.

      @@JaegerWrenching which tune, hiss or rumble has less of a chance to cause premature wear on your turbo? Thanks for your help!

      @@michaelpottkotter6045 I bet you wouldn't;'t be able to tell a difference between hiss and rumble when it comes to wear. a hiss holds more heat in the exhaust manifolds and turbine which can help with turbo response.

    About to get mine deleted and tuned. Does the hiss tune allow a quicker turbo spool over the rumble, or are the changes at that low rpm range simply a user preference on sound?

      Simply sound, this unit can go from 0% to 90% in roughly .5 of a second. The only time you'd maybe notice a delay would be stabbing the gas pedal off idle.

    What company is the tune

    The “hiss” tune is just overworking your turbo. More stress on it constantly
