Amazing footage. A stunning capture of history. God bless the crew.
RIP Kaiserlich Deutsche U-Boot-Seeleute!
I will never care what side a submariner fought for.
They are some of the bravest souls in the history of warfare.
What’s brave about going to war in a sardine can and shooting mainly unarmed merchant ships without warning you stupid fucking Cunt!!!
Says alot about the high quality metals she was built with..a 100 years in salt water shallow depth- most of her is still there- my heart goes out to the Crew - USNavy vet Salute Gentilemann.
Amazing video! I've dived a number of u-boats in US waters, but this one is hands down the most interesting and very well preserved. The cross-section really allows you to see the inside and the structure. Thanks for diving and posting!
It's so beautiful, I thank the sailors that rammed it 😂
RIP German submariners.
What an utterly retarded comment to make you have no concept of war by that remark you moronic fuck wit!
The boys who went to sea in these things must have been brave and heroic lads. RIP
My dad a petty officer said to me so you want to be a submariner?I said yeah sounds exciting..he sat my ass down and sprained some things when he said how do you like the idea of being shark food..that was it..I went airborne to hell with that idea under the waves
Thanks for the awsome video
Incredible preservation, and amazing viz as well. What a dive.
stunning photography Mr. Woods, absolutely stunning! A great tribute to the brave men that served aboard her. Thank you for taking your time with the camera, not to mention taking the risks, the conditions seemed perfect, and were not wasted thanks to the diligence with which you performed your tasks. Thanks again for sharing, and prayers for all those lost, and all those who suffered loss, on both sides of that terrible conflict.
Thank you. I agree with your sentiments. ..Take care .
Kudos for a terrific job. Seldom is a video of this sort so clear. I also appreciate the respectful manner in which you treated the final resting place of those Matrosen who have spent the last century on Eternal Patrol. 👍
WOW what clarity the video has it's like your right there thanks
Fantastic video. Thanks for sharing!
I can't believe how clear the photography is.
winter diving; no algae blooms. BC's diving in Canada is best in the winter as well. Notice they're pretty much geared up for the cold. that water temp. could be just above freezing.
thanks for sharing, amazing!
Sad only the pressure hull ,RIP BRAVE YOUNG MEN.
Super video Norm, thank you. Great skill as always!
After close to 105 years I am surprised there is this much still left of the submarine. So close to the end, they almost made it.
Great video - marvellous dive (I'm jealous) and, for those of us who weren't there with you, the lighting, camera-work, editing and discreet music make it like you were there . Thanks
Anyway you look at it,it's a desecration of a grave sight. Men were probably entombed in the boat, it would be like diving on the Hood.
Looks as if a number of live torpedoes still there!
Excellent video, great clarity and music. I was impressed with all the equipment the divers had on, I don't have a clue what does what, but it would be interesting to know.
Wow nice video. Lots of the sub left after so long (100 years)
amazing video!
Very good interesting video. Thanks.
Nice Video From The Clear Waters of The Golden County.
Michael the Atlantic can be green or blue, with clear seas and skies it will be blue. I do not use filters. The camera is a Gopro hero 4. I use video lights. In this situation camera settings for white balance must be set at auto. Do not use pro tune with Video lights. Temp of the lights is 4,500 Kelvin. Hope this helps.
glad you like it ;)
Nice & clear, amazing to see the outer hull erode with most of the pressure hull remains intact. What's the depth & temp? Looks like a tri-mix with a rebreather.
Nice video!!
War is a test of both ones courage and different ways to kill the courageous. Only a rare few will themselves to war underwater. R.I.P to all the lost souls who still roam the seas on patrol
excellent images .
splendide
Watch with the sound off.
Nah man that's genuine 1915 German techno 🥴
creepy...at 1:17 the reflection of your flashlight seems to "Leave a light on".....
Great video. What depth is this at? And where exactly is it?
Depth 63m. North Atlantic. Approx 30nm due North from Lough Swilly on the North Coast of Ireland.
Nice and clear. Reminds me of U2511 😐
Wow..not much left. Did this submarine contain the mercury tanks 9to assist in diving)? Hope it has been cleaned up.-BTW, Donegal is my late GF's home.
Lots of it left....it's been down there for 100 years. Sunk in 1918. Mostly what's missing is the outer ballast tanks which were thin and did not need to withstand much pressure. Full of water when submerged and full of air when on the surface which a bunch of plastic barrels could do. The pressure hull seems to be in tact.
ScarabChris About 87 psi at the depth its lying (60m) That seems quite a lot to me ?
Wow
Is the vessel protected by the Irish Government from people diving down and dismantling the submarine ? As in many comments many torpedoes & weapons still vissable and would make an amazing museum collection or sold on a private scale. Great video photography creating this 🎥🎗️🤗
Unfortunately it is in International waters off the Irish Coast. If it was in Irish waters it would be protected once it reached 100 years of age. Currently anyone removing an item must report it in the country were they land the item. There is evidence that some items have been removed but generally apart from the damage from being rammed, corrosion of the outer shell and trawler damage, by and large it is surprisingly intact. It is a war grave and personally I only retrieve images and leave only bubbles.
So many war graves lie in the oceans of this planet rip
Would have been really nice to get a wide full shot of the sub so we can easily see the damage the ramming caused and get an idea of exactly how she sank.
Hi from the timeline at approx 5min 24. You can see extensive damage to the hull and clearly sea the diesel engine and it's valve rockers. Some of which have been damaged. My guess she was rammed from the port side aft of the stern gun through the engine room.
@@NormanWoods56 The problem is from close in views it's impossible to tell what's potential damage and what's corrosion.
To help you get a clearer idea of the damage regarding items which have rusted away and damage that sunk the sub. The strongest part of the sub is the pressure Hull. The shape that you see in pictures of the time, comes from the outer structures that create the decks the bow shape and the stern. On this will be gun platforms for the gunners to stand along with the winter Gardens with anti aircraft guns. Between the decking and the pressure Hull will be air cylinders and buoyancy tanks along with ordnance lockers and liferafts etc. The conning tower would also have an area for the commander and others to stand when on the surface. Generally most of decking etc attached to the pressure Hull will rust away leaving the pressure Hull in tacked with the external cylinders dangling or lying on the seabed. (This is the case with most ww1 subs) From the video you can clearly see the compression Hull forward of the conning tower is in very good condition with no access to the inside bar the forward torpedoe loading hatch. To the rear of the sub above the engine room their is no compression Hull with parts of the starboard side torn out to seaward. (The engine rocker covers are dislodged and missing mostly from the port engine.) The compression Hull on the port side of the engine has a clean large gap leading to the missing top part of the compression Hull. Due to the depth and the direction of the tide and the time I had; on balance I could not risk an attempt to swim away from the wreck and attempt a wide shot that may or may not be possible considering visibility only reached a third to half of the wreck at any given time on the day. I had to stay close to the wreck to prevent being swept away. My swim from the stern to the bow was using the wreck to shelter from the tide which was moving accross the wreck diagonally from the port bow to starboard stern. Images might have been different if I had taken an underwater scooter ;) hope all the above helps.
Wau 😮
My uncle lost his life on the submarine called the THames its never been found
Your uncle is not dead he was seen on a Greek island with Elvis and Jim Morrison!
Do you think it might be interesting to include the DEPTH this sub rests at ??
63m
@@NormanWoods56 Thank you. This was eerily fascinating. Enormous & dangerous undertaking...
What is the depth, and what time of year is the best time to dive the site?
Googled it - 60 meters, not suitable for me 👌
63m, summer time.
Norman Woods thanks, I stay at the pubs
63 meters is roughly 206 feet; a four bottle dive; for maximum down time and safety. From a EOD standpoint how rare is it finding a completly intact world war one german torpedo?
It says WW1 in the description but it looks very much like the type 7b or 7c of WW2.
uboat.net/wwi/boats/?boat=89
Try looking at the above. U89 ww2 was sunk off portugal a type 7c hope this helps.
It's a type 3 I think
They wanted to kill someone's great grandad. Don't be sorry for submarines at the bottom of the ocean - if they were your enemy in war, you'd just be asking to trade places with them because that's what they would have wanted.
There were 89s in both wars, both sunk. This one seems to have exploded.
Patrick this is WW I sunk on the 12th Feb 1918. Rammed by HMS Roxburgh all crew lost (43)
Lost souls that fought for polititians ... wrong or right they deserve respect
Victims victimizing other victims, they got what was coming to them 😐 and this my nice attitude about it 🤨
I sure hope these guys respected that ship as a war grave way too many divers steal from these ships
john sepulveda I bet the dead people will not object to anything. Pretty much the whole world has a place where people died soon enough we won’t be able to move in worries of the dead people.
Warum wird das nicht auf deutsch beschrieben!!
Torpedoes still onboard, Dangerous Wreck
It can detonate at any time!
Live Torpedoes ?
The torpedo in the tube was likely primed. All others are as when initially loaded.
there's no mistaking that gopro distortion. too bad, would have been some really great footage otherwise.
Agreed, I now never us superwide mode as a result of this video and it's distortion. This was the only time I used it. I advise all friends with a gopro not to use superwide when videoing. Might use it when taking certain pictures though. All is ok on standard wide mode. Take care Norm.
@@NormanWoods56 i hear you about the super-wide mode. i do some u/w stuff as well (with an ROV) and my go to cam is my Olympus TG Tracker, 170 degree, but it doesn't give that fish-eye effect at all. the one feature i like with the gopro is the long battery life.
distortion aside, there's no question, you've got some great footage there, and it must have been awesome to see that wreck first hand!!
Pete
A pro may care, but I'm just glad there's video at all
Undersea Cauliflowers.
how can these divers stay on that depth for so long?
They all use a re-breather. The cylinders you see are called bail out cylinders should they have issues with the re-breather, they are not required for the actual dive.
I, once a tool for the minister of death, now host life, and care for the dead.
Where the krew ??
Doesn't look much like a u boat anymore
Those guys down there accepted the risk and I'm glad they were rammed 😘
he is german just like title of the video
