I think this might be the best performance of this song I've ever heard from Metallica! James's singing was so SO good and the new twists he added to the vocal melody were great, and Rob's harmonies were absolutely PERFECT. The playing was TIGHT, the solo and harmonies were CLEAN and the mix was great!

I think you're right. I've seen a lot of bands...including Metallica back in the early '80s and can't think on one that is at their level and still bringing the energy. Maybe Iron Maiden is the other. Anthrax too.
Right… Maiden’s energy remains off the charts in their live shows, as well as Anthrax. Both bands retain the bulk of their core essential lineups. Metallica’s live energy is not all that much compared to the other two

As western music is illegal in Iran, in 1998 I smuggled Garage inc album cassette in a loose tea box from Dubai to Shiraz, Iran. I was 20 years old fanatic Metallica fan. Deprived from buying their albums or going to their concerts in my country. I had a Sony Sport Walkman. Used to hide it in my jacket sleeve and hide the headphones under my wooly hat. Walking up and down Cinema Saadi Street, listening to my heros. Two years later I immigrated to the UK and went to 3 live show, including the one that lars missed and joe played the drums
No mention of the outlaw torn being played before this then starting whiskey in the jar. If I can see that and whiskey in the jar in Detroit I would be so happy😊. Being that I am not in the Uk I don't think I will get the full whiskey in the jar like you guys did but maybe a medley with the 2 like they have done at other shows but I'm crossing my fingers for both in full.

So proud to say I was there no more than 10 meters from these legends, by far the best set and performance I have seen and i will never forget it! Not a single day goes past where at some point I dont listen to a track from these guys and it blows my mind to think they don't need to do this. I was there at download that night and met a father and his 13 year old daughter in this crowd. We chatted for ages before the set about all types of music and just life while smoking 🚬 they had such a special relationship I was soooo jealous of and I'm glad me and this little girl got to see our favourite band for the first time together while her dad hadn't seen them in 32 years. Music is truly magical ❤
