I wish Mario party would go back to it's roots, I have conflicting opinions on this game, I want it to sell well so the developers know a demand for this game is still alive, but I want it to sell badly so the devolpers learn we want the old Mario party back, that means the Mario party from the N64/Early GC days, either way, not buying this one, I hated MP9, and if the devolpers didn't learn there lesson from what the tonnes of fans were saying about wanting old Mario party back in this game, then I don't see any point in supporting them.
Well, 8 and DS still had the good gameplay, but it was 9 that ruined it, and Island Tour and 10 are following right in its footsteps.

Of course, DS was the last fun Mario party, but the thing is, most people don't like Mario party 4 and onwards, so that's why I said I wish they'd go back to the days of the N64 and early Gamecube.
Sdudyoy N I liked all the GC and N64 ones for different reasons. I never played 8 however, and it sounds like I made a good investment by not buying 9. That car battling game mode in Mario Party 5 consumed my childhood.
I agree that mario party should go back to its roots, but you saying that most people didn't enjoy mario party 4 and onward isn't a fact bro. And why would you even say that? Is it because the the fourth one came to a different console and wasn't on the 64?
Sdudyoy N Nah, I think mario party 8 was the cap. 4 got boring eventually and 5 helped me stay onboard towards MP8. I pretty much lost interest when MP9 didn't have online and that it changed its method of gameplay.
Come on we're in 2015 and still no online mode for Mario Party?

Online multiplayer completely defeats the purpose of Mario Party.
PokéPersona I can see why though. A game of Mario Party usually takes it's time and I don't think many people have this much patience, especially in a game that's based on destroying friendships.
NathanielLiles Still doesn't mean that the company can't offer it as an option for players who want to play online. By your thinking, this is like letting the company decide for you how you're going to play the game and you are perfectly fine with it.
Pink Piece Of Shit Just make it so you can play the minigames/ minigame gamemodes (Like MP6 Decathlon Park or MP8 Tic-Tac Drop) with friends and randoms, and make it so so can play the boredgames with your friends only. Whats complicated about that. The user and friends should be able to decide how long a game is on there own and how long they wanna play. And If one drops or decideds to leave just replace them with a cpu.

Thank you Andre for being HONEST and keeping your "emotional/biased" attachment to Mario Party series out of this review as well as NOT letting the fanboys affect your decision. I do agree 100% with your review and think that older Mario Party games where you had FULL CONTROL over your character (i.e. no stupid cart) as well as MORE STRATEGY in them were waaaaaaaaaay BETTER than this installment. The only thing good in this one is Bowser mode (which even that, doesn't last for long until you get BORED with it).

I had this game preordered. I've been thinking about whether to cancel it or not. I might just cancel it. I LOVE Mario party, but come on! Nintendo doesn't understand how well their previous formula worked. The majority of people like that better. And another thing -- This is 2015. We should be able to play online against people. Even if it's just the mini-game portion of the game. These two slight changes would make this game a LOT better.

I actually mostly play Mario Party with my wife and family who enjoy the luck based gameplay. It never bothered me too much anyway.
NintendoNewsByMii I was considering buying this, I hated 9, but was hopeful for this anyway. I then watched some game play videos, and decided it's not worth the price tag. It's pretty lacking for a Wii U game.

I want to like this game so much. I haven't played Mario Party in years and would really like to. But it looks like the new stuff they put in is as mediocre as I feared it would be. Still, a very small part of me is still curious and wants to try it, but not for $60 at the risk of ultimately not enjoying it. If this game doesn't get a price drop (Nintendo games rarely do), I might never try it.

I don't think it's about comparisons as they'd just keep the old stars but about emotional response. It would seem like Andre got the same feeling playing this game as Derek did when he was playing sonic boom even if this game isn't riddle with glitches
Yeah, but everyone has their own opinions and not everyone is going to think the same way about things. I've liked some games that other people have hated and didn't like games that people really loved. I think I would personally enjoy Mario Party 10, but truth be told, I could see why people wouldn't like it as much. Especially if they didn't like MP9.

I didn't imply that at all, all I asked for was more variety. Why can't there be an "I Kind of Liked it..." score in between "Liked" and "Meh?" People are already treating their new score system as if it's an arbitrary numbered one, and I think if they actually had more variety rather than using the same three-four scores, that would happen less.
Honestly, I feel like they should have returned to the normal style of Mario Party, at least for the regular game mode. It's the 10th instalment after all! This game could have been the game that takes every Mario Party mini game and brings it back for this one, incorporating various elements of each of the games into this one (with a story about how Bowser uses a time dimension type of thing to go back in time to win previous Mario Party games). The regular party mode should've been an "everyman for themselves" type of gameplay, similar to 1-8., and the boards could have been a weird hybrid of previous boards from other games merged together to create new ones.
The Bowser game mode could have remained as is, where teammates work together to get away from Bowser-because that makes sense- why else would they all be in a giant kart thing together?
Anyway, that's just my two cents. I feel like it was a missed opportunity to do something really cool with all of the content they've created over the years, to create some kind of ultimate Mario Party.
in my opinion mario party 7 was the best! hopefully they go back to making them like that.

You mean a "Mario Party Trilogy HD Collection"? That's a great idea! You should tell Nintendo that! And have them figure out a way to fix those infamous control stick rotation mini-games.

I'd love for Mario Party 2 to be remade with more characters and minigames. I loved how the characters changed costumes for each map, and would really enjoy having some of the newer characters go through the same thing.
I can't say that I didn't see this coming. But, I think that people really shouldn't avoid this game just because Andre made it sound so bad. He was just stating how he personally felt about the game. That doesn't mean that you, even as a veteran Mario Party player should immediately hate the game(unless you played and already didn't like 9). Seriously, objectively, 9 and 10 are very well designed and polished. They work extremely well at what they are designed to be. I'm 22, and have been enjoying Mario Party since it was new. And, I honestly enjoyed 9 a lot. I feel that your opinion on these new games will heavily bank on how much control you thought you had on previous Parties.
Honestly, no matter how how much skill you put into any Mario Party, luck is the biggest deciding factor. Because, even if everyone has control over where they should go on the board. pretty much everything else is most definitely determined by luck. Dice rolls; turn order; Star spawn; what minigames happen; how many coins you get; how many coins you lose; what items you may be able to obtain; the list goes on. Literally, aside from situational opportunities and skill based minigames, the rest of the game is all RNG manipulation. You're only most guaranteed to win if you are playing with CPU's and just don't mess up. When you have the human element, literally anyone can win. And, that still hasn't changed. How it's presented has.
And, I'm glad for it. Hudson Soft had a good run. But, I honestly thought that, past Mario Party 6(except for DS), things were going downhill and getting kind of stale. And, hey, that's just my opinion. The fact that ND Cube switched things up so much is something I appreciate. I mean, how many other games in the party genre of videogames have as much effort still put into them? Be happy that we still have Mario Party in a very small handful of party games that are mostly either just cheap minigame collections or imitators that are not as enjoyable.
I'm still getting this game and will have fun with others as I always do when playing MP. If we need to go back, we play Mario Party 2, 3, 4, or 6. Nothing can ever beat them, in my opinion. But, we have something new and different here. Might as well bust it out every now and then when we just wanna have a good time in a unique way.

Also, Andre clearly didn't fully explore Amiibo Party. There is actually a lot to that mode that allows you to change the board up midgame as well as make custom boards with multiple amiibos. It's actually a pretty neat extra that has a bunch of unexpected outcomes with different amiibos.

KidSnivy69 I fear to state my oppinion here (cuz seriously, I doubt we can have it :v), but I actually thought that when I played MP8, I really thought it became kinda stale (because i played lots of MP with some buddies, not all, but at least 4-5 to say something), don't get me wrong, I loved these games but the changes MP9 and MP10 bring are a bit refreshing, not ENTIRELY refreshing but hey, I was always that kind of guy that likes changes most of the times.
KidSnivy69 Why? 10 seems to have better boards, better minigames, and the two extra game modes. There are some things that I will miss like Kamek and Shy Guy, Captain Bonus, and some of the bosses. But, because both games work so similarly otherwise, going back to 9 won't feel like a step back. And, 10 is there for the stuff 9 doesn't have. Do you have the game yet?
Mario Party Generations.
A handful of reimagined and revised boards from the classic Mario Party games, a handful of minigames from the past games, and nostalgic remastered soundtrack for the boards and games, sorta like MK8's retro track BGMs.
Online mode.
Plays like old Mario Party games. Has the full playable cast from Mario Golf World Tour, with a few others like Dry Bones and Spike.
(Inb4 the hate, disappointment, annoying Classic fanbrats, "ND Cube RUIENED EV3RYTH1NG!!!!11!!!1" comments, etc.)
Honestly I knew it was gonna get a "meh" rating because MP 10 doesn't "cater" to people who love (and I do mean LOVE) the classic Mario Party titles. It tries but needs more practice on its execution.
Regardless, this will be one of the many reasons why I need to get a WiiU asap. Since I'm a fan of 9, I should find some enjoyment in 10.

It's like I can't have a different opinion than everyone else; is that what you want? I didn't grow up with the series like you did, so I should follow that crowd that should hate MP 10 or something?
Tee KH You're missing my point. You can't agree nor disagree with objective points. Objective means it's a fact. He mentioned several objective points in this review, such as:
1) Having to swipe your amiibo on your Gamepad every single turn, which breaks the pace of the game
2) Bowser Party is unbalanced because when characters die, Bowser can easily catch up.
And so on and so forth.
From what I've seen of the game through Andre's streams and other videos on this channel, this Mario Party seems pretty mediocre apart from the minigames, so I reckon the "meh" rating was to be expected. I'll still get this at launch, though (I've had my copy pre-ordered for some time now) and I will try to have at least some fun with it.
Same goes for me. I spent the money so I want to have at least some fun but actually, I'm more looking forward to continue replaying Super Paper Mario with a friend right now.
Or you could cancel pre order and do something fun.

Honestly not surprised. The Mario Party series has been getting stale and there's been nothing of Mario Party 10 that's "wowed" people since E3. If anything a lot of people were complaining as soon as they saw the car mechanics were back.

I used to love mario party but honestly haven't really been psyched for any of the new ones. My fav would still have to be Mario Party 2! Great minigames, themed costume parties, and a great reveal animation at the end of each board for the winner!
Mario Party 10 feels like a version of Mario Kart where the player in 12th place would always be guaranteed a Blue Shell every time they hit an item block...

I was really holding out hope for this game, I really was. Kept on telling myself it was going to be better than it looked, that even in Mario Party mode still stunk a skunk, that Bowser Party would save the whole game.
I'm sorry to see that's not the case. Hopefully they'll bring back the competitive spirit of the game back in Mario Party 11.
As someone who had so much fun with Mario party 7, 8 & DS I really feel Mario party ten should have been a big celebration of what made Mario party great with new stuff to. Which this really isn't, if they wanted a one board side mode with the car fine but the fact the main game is still this concept that is less fun than the classic mode is ridiculous.

This is a mess. The Wii U already has a bad enough rep as it is. It does not need awful games like this. This was a golden opportunity to go back to the old style of Mario Party, but they kept going on with gimmicky experimental style that plagued 9 and Island Tour, on a console that DOES NOT need something like this.
Mario Party 10 was the last, the LAST game the Wii U needed.

Why is everyone hating on this game? I like the Bowser Party mode, I do like that they at least brought back the old MP via Amiibo Party (and saying you need an amiibo to play it meaning it's bad is stupid because you should have all but Toad if you own Smash WiiU), and the mini games seem a lot more fun this time around than in MP9. Plus, IT'S HIS GODDAMN OPINION!! Buy the game for yourself for once and get your own damn opinion. What's "meh" to him is "great" for another. Not everyone is gonna say the game is "meh". Play the damn game for yourself for once, you lazy bastards and get your own damn opinion.
I understand your point, but you have to understand that reviews exist so we can learn whether or not the game is worth dropping 50 bucks into. Andre makes a lot of objective points, gives facts on the way its structured, along with gameplay footage. It's not just his opinion, we're also analyzing just the facts given to us. If it doesn't look appealing we'll save our 50 bucks for Xenoblade or Devil Survivor or something.
That's the power of the sheep mentality (or whatever). One guy's opinion is not the "be all, end all" of everything; it all comes down to personal taste.
The Actual Unicorn Gundam Exactly. It really seems a lot of the commenters are just skipping to the end of the video and completely ignore the objective points that he mentioned, which are not based on personal taste at all.
I'm willing to listen to Andre because his opinion on the mario party series is very close to mine. I'm not going to drop 50 dollars on this, realize that it is exactly has boring as I thought it would be, then go though the hassle of trying to return the game/sell it to get my money back. If nintendo really wanted me to try the game out first before making a judgment on it, they would have released a demo for it already. But instead they want to con people like you who think we should buy any awful game that comes out so we can "form our own opinion on it." No thank you. I've seen three hours of gameplay, all of the minigames, and this review, I think I can form an opinion based on that.
I should buy a game that I know I won't like? I know what I'm looking at and André explained what was wrong with the game very well.
If the developers want to take the doubt of the consumer away they should make a good demo.
Mario Party fces the same problem as The Sims in that there is no serious competion that offers the same genre, so the production team isn't forced to do their best
I think they did the whole Amiibo party thing(constantly scanning in your Amiibo) cuz they wanted you to feel like you're actually using your Amiibo. You play with your Amiibo instead of just scanning and putting it to the side.
Oh man. This is really disappointing. This could've been so good, but all the negative aspects weigh it down so much. It's $60 too, that's the kicker.

Point stands. It's not a 60 dollar game. I like NIntendo doing different prices for their games. Same with Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze and Nintendo Land and more.

I LOVE this game. Few reasons why...
1 The minigames were INCREDIBLE and so much fun. Most of them didn’t require luck, but a lot more skill. My favorite is probably Soar to Score and Flash Forward.
2 Mario Party Mode was AWESOME and so random! I had played Mario Party 9 and loved the car mechanic so I was overjoyed to see it in this installment. Also the actual “good Mario Party’s” I played were 8 and the DS version. They were ok though, good minigames, and the concept of it always made me frustrated. DS especially. I love the mini star games thing because you need to plan out where you are going to go. Say 5 mini stars on one side, then 8 mini stars on the other but farther away, it’s hard to think what ur going to do.
3 Bowser Mode (I will come back to this in a minute)
I am disappointed. Nintendo had that ONE chance to make good Mario Party for a time... but no. Screw it.
I hope Nintendo gives Mario Party 10 the same treatment that Mario Kart 8 got in terms of DLC. Extra boards, modes, and options could REALLY spice things up.

My brother, For some reason, thinks this is the best game available for Wii U, even though he rarely plays it. I hid in a vent for a month and he didn't notice or care.
I think the game hypnotized him into thinking this game is fun.

Mario Party 8 was awful! A huge step backwards from my personal favorite (being Mario Party 7) and not only do I find 8 disappointing, I find it to be my least favorite Mario Party game so far.

Less interesting boards, boring minigames, linear gameplay, dumb items, nothing fun aside from party mode, stupid fun fair concept, and to top it all of with the Jar Jar Binks of the Mario Party franchise (being MC Ballyhoo). Man did I hate him! Why the hell did they get rid of Toadsworth?
The candies were ok, but they were absolutely nothing compared to all the items in 7. And I'm sorry, I don't like Mario Party 8's boards. At all. I don't like the style of the boards, I don't like the designs of the boards, it lacks the creativity that 7's boards had IMO, and they were too linear.
No honestly I hated that Train board. It was too linear and the environment was boring. The dolphins were fun, but that's just one thing on one board that has nothing in its predecessor. And he'll no! I actually like Mario Party DS! It's the only decent Mario Party game out there that is new.
The last mario party game I played was 4 and I love it, but the whole "everyone is on one ship" concept from 9 is so fucking stupid. There's hardly and strategy in distancing yourselves from other players because you're all grouped together.

You know who I would want to make a Mario Party game? Next Level Games, the people who made both Mario Strikers games and Dark Moon. I think if they understood what made Mario Party good, they would add their own blend of style, competition, and just new life to this series, just like what they tried (TRIED!!! As in not succeeded) to do in Mario Party 9.

if they ever make a MP11:
1) keep bowser party and balance it to be more fair + make it at least 20 mini games since its a mode in it self.
2) bring back the mario party we all know from 1~8 with at least 7 boards
3) make another party mode called "Car Party" with the car mechanic using and altering the same 7+ boards from mario party to cut development time.
4) for amiibo party, dont make it require amiibos for anymore than unlocking boards...
5) a decent number of 4 vs (20+), 1 vs 3 (20+), 2 vs 2 (20+), battle (5+), duel (5+), and DK (3+ if not playable) mini games. Bowser mini games are brought from bowser party as bowser being the CPU. you can also bring back mini games from previous games as DLC.
6) we should be able to set Bowser's CPU lvl
7) an MC because they make the game more lively
8) bring in the items back formed in candies, capsules, etc.
9) a large cast. the mario universe has alot of characters that we can use. stop taking out more characters than adding in.
i will guarantee that no1 will be upset and will gladly throw their money at the screen.
Not too hyped for this game.. but still have it pre-ordered. I think it's worth having since the Wii U has so few games lol.

Sawtje2 Not sure why you are so rude on this topic but realistically, there aren't many games on the Wii U. More than the other 2 consoles but definitely not a lot of games.

Xephonia I have 22 games for my Wii U. I'd say that's enough, since most gamers dont really buy many more games for a system than 20 anyway, regardless of how many games that are available for it

For some reason I really liked Mario Party 9, so I will more than likely enjoy this with friends.
Really dissapointing review tbh. And amiibo party being a "throwback" to the old Mario Party makes it seem lamer than it already is. I'd rather a Solo Mode, than some pointless mode where you get to play as actual board pieces in actual board game simulations. It kinda kills the purpose of Mario Party's existance

There should be a MAJOR update or DLC to Mario Party 10, like adding more boards, mini-games, more game modes, more characters, a mode where you play the classic Mario Party or an option to play it.

Mario Party DS was my first in the series. Love it to death and still love to replay it. Also have Mario Party 8. Also love it to death, and still play it a lot with my friends. Mario Party 9 didn't appeal to me, mainly because of the cart mechanic, so I skipped it. I do own Island Tour, but it's a big dissapointment for me. And this doesn't look like it improved that much. I'm feeling like Mario Party is going downhill...
Mario party games will always be bad without Hudson. If only Hudson came back to nintendo mario party would be good again. I stopped playing after mario party 7. Kids save your money for better games.

Mario Party games need to go back to the classic style (ironically it's the same style used for EIGHT games), where you're not all crammed in a car on mostly linear boards, but instead play independently of each other on strategic boards. Rented Mario Party 9 and it was a huge disappointment, won't be getting a new Mario Party until they drop the stupid car mechanic. It really just drops the amount of fun had in these games by a huge amount. Just really disappointing.
There are 9 games with the old mechanics (Mario Party DS had them). But, why does nobody See that? Look: I'm a fan of the Mother Serie. There are just 3 games in the entire franchise and 2 of them are Japan exclusive. So there are 6 more Mario Party games with the old mechanics than there will be for an entire franchise (it was stated that there will be no Mother 4). That is just an example, but what I want to say is: If you want to play those Mario Parties, play them. There are more than enough of them. You don't need new ones. Just don't stuck in the past and complain how you don't get another "old" MP. Open your world to new games instead of wanting the same thing over and over again. You know what I mean?
I play lots of games, I'm not "stuck in the past," I'd say this for any series when the next game takes huge steps back. That's all I was saying - if they're going to keep making Mario Party games, at least make them better, not worse. Whereas like the Mother series, all three games are pure gold - awesome! And if you got a Mother 4, you'd want it to be at least as good, and definitely not worse. I don't have a problem of opening my "world to new games instead of wanting the same thing over and over again." I do that constantly. I just think they should either stop Mario Party or make the games good again, not do this nonsense lol.
This is my first Mario Party since the GameCube, so I think I will enjoy it because it will feel new to me. So I'm still looking forward to it no matter what anyone says!

When it comes to Bowser Party, Team Mario (as all Normal difficulty CPUs) managed to beat me. It looks as if Bowser has a giant advantage, but Team Mario can restore their hearts through board events, so that kind of balances things out.
This game looks really meh, I wouldn't pay $60 for it.
It's $50, but I think it should be $40 because of the Amiibo requirement for Amiibo Party.

I'm still gonna try it out. I think there's still a decent chance I'll like it. I mean Andre didn't say he hated it, he said he was indifferent. He even said he though some of the minigames were fun. So I'll try it and see for myself. Most of the people in the comment section haven't plaid it yet so I don't think I should base it on those comments.
I think Mario Party's core gameplay followed the good ol' mantra, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
Personally I think this gameis quite charming, so I will get it sometime.
But we all know that, in the very bottom of our hearts, that WE WANT THE OLD MARIO PARTY STYLE BACK.
Personally I think Mario Party 3 is the very best Mario Party out of all of them. It had an awesome Story, hell it is the only Mario Party game where the board game gameplay made sense with the story. The artstyle was beautiful and childish, just how Mario Party has to be, as well as the music.
That's how Mario Party has to be. And enchanting story, varied boards, depth in gameplay, tons of things to do, and make the characters feel with personality.
Let's hope the next Mario Party 11 goes back to the roots and improves the old formula. Hope is the last thing we can lose.
Well, this review reflects pretty much all of my thoughts on the game thus far. They tried some things, but didn't improve anything from MP9's problems. maybe they finally learn what they are doing wrong and make a better MP11.
Bowser and Amiibo party were the only reasons I ever had any interest in this game. Thanks to this review, I now am certain that this will be a waste of cash if I decide to buy it.
...so sad, because I really wanted to at least try the few Bowser Minigames they had. :P
When I saw the part showing drawing "Don't go this way", I thought that was genius!
But since you said setting trap parts are rare, that's kinda disappointing.
But I love the game as a whole, amiibo party looks great to me, I don't see the problem with using an amiibo and not a Wii remote, at least it saves batteries a bit. :)
And MP9 is my favourite, so MP10 using same gameplay with added stuff is great news to me. :)
I see where you are coming from, but I enjoy this game a lot and I would give it honestly a 9/10! The 3 different game modes make it superior to the other mario parties, and bowser party, even if it can end in a few turns, is really exciting, if you're playing team mario OR Bowser. Yes, amiibo party does kind of suck, but there are only some games amiibo compatible, so they tried their hardest to implement them into this game! In my personal opinion, I would buy this game if you have a wii u because this game has so much to it!

Honestly, as someone who grew up with 4-8, I like the car mechanic more than the original style in several ways.
I find it weird that he didn't mention how you could customize the Board the amiibo play on. You do this by selecting a quadrant of a Board (each unlocked by their amiibo equivalent) to attach to the overall Game Board. By looking at all the personalities/strategies of each Board, you can create something that's truly unique out of ALL the combinations/variables.
Also, he says that there are no Item Shops. Yet on the Mario Board, you can use your Coins to purchase one of 3 different choices in 1 of the 2 shops. That's inaccurate information.
On the topic of Bowser Party, I REALLY don't understand why people are complaining about Bowser catching up to Team Mario the way he does. If this WASN'T the case, people would be complaining that he doesn't catch up enough. There's no making people happy, it seems.
He says it's: "Imbalanced" yet Team Mario is able to not only get back their Hearts, but can also REVIVE players by doing so. If THAT wasn't enough, players that are knocked out (at least at the time) on their turn, get a special Dice Block for whoever is left on the team. And you can TIME it to get the Dice Blocks you want. Therefore it makes it THAT much easier for Team Mario to reach the end, because of every great Dice Block your team members that's out at the time, can get. Andre DOES NOT mention this tidbit, so him saying that it's: "imbalanced" is INACCURATE. Not to mention, depending on how skilled you are in the Bower Mini-Games, (there's only 1 that's luck) you can often win the mini-games UNSCATHED. Another variable for Team Mario to win.
The fact of the matter, is that Andre didn't mention every single aspect on these modes. You can't say that something is imbalanced, yet neglect to mention EVERY SINGLE THING that both sides are able to do. That is not a proper review.
It is the freaking 10th game of the season!! Why did they not do a Collection of all the games like so many people have said. It would be a game to honor the Mario Party series, including the best mini games of the series, the best boards and so on. It would be really nice for my nostalgic gaming heart :). I know the passion for Mario Party is somewhere, but must be hard after making 10 games .
I like MP games but I wasn't to fussed about this, but with it being a £25 budget title it became a day 1.
Soo.. we've got mario, wario, joshi and many more different games from the same world/universe. Where can i find a list of them all? Ranked by release date. I've never really played some of these games, but like to start by the whole biggining of all the handhelds. Like GB, GBC, GBA and NDS.

This Mario Party was really fun but for each different Party mode it was lacking a bit because for Mario Party they had great boards but they had very few minigame modes and for Bowser Party it was pretty good but kinda pointless for some reasons and didn’t have many modes for it either and Amiibo mode was really fun but kinda basic the boards were great for each character and the tokens were amazing so to me it was a really fun game
Smh. How was Island Tour? Did IT follow the original formula? I was playing MP10 and almost fell asleep numerous times! That NEVER happened before during a Mario Party game. It DID however get more engaging during Amiibo Party, but If this is what Mario Party is going to continue to be, then I'll keep my money from now on.
A shame, but hardly surprising.
It baffles me why they kept the car concept. Sure, it's more like a traditional board game, but this ain't no traditional board game, it's Mario Party. Where frantic free-for-all antics reign as long as you choose, rather than randomly by the dice. (Hell, traditional board games even all give you separate pieces on the same board. Because it's just usually more fun that way, methinks)
And even with Amiibo party, which I'm sure was their attempt to provide a traditional experience, it's basically sans fun factor in an attempt to recreate typical board games.
I haven't played this game, nor do I really plan to. Mainly because I have no frien- have no reason to drop a fifty on this game, but... I still really wish I had a reason to want to. Like frie- err.
I heard somewhere that if you preload mario party 10 you can play it 3 days earlier than release, the 17th?

If ND Cube is still the developer, they should make a game that scraps the stupid car mechanic. Minigame after everyone has gone. Bring back orbs and capsule machines. Use a variety of new orbs and old orbs. Have a variety of new and old minigames and game boards too. Online multiplayer. All of the classic mario party characters plus some new ones. Bring back 20 coins for a star, incorporate ZStars too. Bowser spaces and Bowser Jr. spaces. Bring back the mario party 5 stars, mario party 6's Brighton and Twila, mario party 4's toad, goomba, koopa and boo and toadsworth from mario party 7. Bring back koopa kid as a playable character. Have DLC which includes more classic and new game boards and minigames.

Considering Bowser party is the only game mode worth playing, and there is no solo modes, the best way to handle this game is to buy it with 5 friends.

6:50 um, maybe because the game wants you to use the amiibo more often? It wouldn't make sense just to scan your amiibo just to unlock amiibo party, then just put amiibo back on your shelf. It shouldn't just be "forgotten".
I'm still playing Mario Party 8 till this very day with my friends and family.
I heard the mini-games suck in that one but at least it's traditional Mario party and not this car bullshit.

I've never played a Mario Party game before, but I just bought this to play with my 6-yr old daughter. I'm sure there will be some enjoyment, as I have no basis for comparison.

To skip or not to skip, that is the question. I'm considering getting this game because I would really like a Mario Party title for Wii U and this might be the only one and I haven't bought a new Mario Party in years. At the same time though I feel like skipping it because they brought back the car mechanic which I don't like at all, Bowser Mode only looks fun if you're Bowser to me at the moment and I need to buy an Amiibo to play Amiibo party though that isn't really a problem for me since I wanted to get a couple of those Amiibo anyway. The mini games look fun though. If only Nintendo would put out a demo so I could try it. I seriously think this should be a $40 game considering an entire mode is locked behind Amiibo. I really don't know... I think I'll just wait. Maybe they'll announce Sunshine 2 or another Strikers or Mario Tennis for Wii U at E3. I'd rather get an older Mario Party to be honest. If only they would make a Mario Party 3 or 2 HD.
That's interesting actually. From what I've played, Bowser has only beaten Team Mario 3 times out of the 12 games I've played of it.
This game still seems alright to me. Like, not as a game to get good at, but as something to just fuck around on while drunk with friends.

I'm glad I didn't take the review as a sign to not but it. I bought it today thinking I'm going to hate it, and I was happy to find out I had a blast.
Mario Party 10 looks like a neutered version of previous mario party games. After watching this video, I feel an odd hollow feeling inside of me. I haven't played Mario Party and Mario Party 5, and this looks like a reanimated corpse of a series that I grew up with.
Not sure Im sold on the new Mario Party varient. Sounds weird to all be moving at once. What about Bowlo-ing someone? Duelos? That was always fun trying to chase after or stay ahead of people.
Tips for making a better Mario Party:
- Don't force players to move together
- Cut the "Mini-Star" bullshit, that's what coins are for.
- Make luck mini-games separate and allow them to be turned off.
- Don't rely on gimmicks or novelty.
- No life bars, if you fuck up, you fuck up.
- Enemies should not be playable.
^ If you want them in, make them partners. (Mario Party 3's Duel Mode)
^ That's what you could've used the fucking Amiibos for.
- Make Bowser occur only for rare instances.
- Don't make parts of boards inaccessible.
^ Allow some way to place spots for your friends to fuck up. (Orbs)
^ Allow some way to purchase and obtain said items.
- Make the boards non-linear.
^ No "Boss" mini-games.
- Cut the "Randomized" bullshit. (Except for Chance Time)
- Modes for all.
- Balance the mini-games
- Make the boards interesting.
- Don't make it feel cheap.
