I always think it’s funny when people get worked up about us using our countertops or bare hands. I disinfect my countertop and use it with no mats or anything to lay meat and veggies all the time when I’m canning. I just disinfect again when I’m done! I wash my hands thoroughly and often when I cook or can also. I love what you said about having hands before even knowing how to use a fork! I saw a couple other comments about olives and ham. Maybe a video on that? Thanks for sharing with us! Your videos are awesome!
When people complain about us washing our hands or our counter tops, you would think you was gonna feed them I am a retired nurse and believe me my hand washing was ALWAYS a must even if I set their meds on their tray table for them. Just found your videos and I will be watching them If I caned cubed ham prepackaged, do I use water to fill them before pressure canning I want to can a lot of cubed ham to put in my beans and leather britches as the Indians called sun dried green beans God bless you🙏🙏🙏 Thank you so much
Hello Tess! I'm so glad I came across your channel when I was looking for Alaska Pepper, and decided to subscribe. I enjoyed your video where you break down a ham. Thanks for your videos.
Oh. I just got 2 spiral sliced hams for 7.00. I was so excited….got home and realized I don’t have a lot of room in my freezer. So I will freeze the slices and cube what isn’t sliced. Oh and stock, yes please. Bean and ham soup
I like Channing up cube meat I had gotten a whole bunch of Frozen grilled chicken patties before and what I did was I cut them up in tiny little cuts of cube chicken and then I pressure can them in chicken broth and I use those whenever I want to make a quick chicken soup
Thank you for the video. I do this every time I get a ham. We use for soups or beans, omelets and such. Broth is saved for anything and everthing it can be used for.
Well, here I am being your fan girl again. 🤣 I'm so thankful for your frugal and industrious ways you share with us. I hope you're having a better day today!
Oh thank you! My days go back and forth... but at least now I know there is a reason for the bad days and it is not all in my head. I did not even know "long haul syndrome of Covid" was a thing until my doctor sent me for some tests... I am here on the days I can be. I love you all for sticking around even on the weeks I can't post content.
Hope you are doing well. Looking forward to your return. I always keep the women who've taught me to prepare/can in my prayers. And I love a rebel canner that safely works outside the alphabet group.
Love that! Thank you so much!! I am trying to get back. I have some older videos that I am trying to get the energy to edit and post, since I am not able to stand in the kitchen for very long right now.
I've ran into the "dry"/"stringiness" of ham when I've tried canning Split Pea soup - I thought maybe it was from storing it in a broth - I will have to give this a try
I also had the same problem with doing certain types of ham some of it does turn out a little stringy and I don't really like that so what I decided to do was any type of ham that I find I've been testing it out and so far a lot of the press handstand to do a better job well actually I meant to say press hams
I will have to try that. I would love to have some sliced ham in jars that I could have on hand and not have to worry about the freezer going out or losing power.
That is based on the acidity in your foods. If you are new, I would recommend that you start out with one of the alphabet agencies as your reference... there are links in the descriptions of all my videos. There is a standard rule - Some fruits and vegetables can be water bathed, some have to be pressure canned. Meats need pressure canning. I am a rule breaker and I do not advise anyone to necessarily follow me. I am comfortable with the way I can things, but not everyone is comfortable with the things I can.
@@FyreflyesFollies 😆 I get ya! I will follow the rules until I know what I am doing and then may experiment. Thanks so much for the reply. I will check your description box
I was wondering what you did with the extra ham stock? My mind went crazy thinking of all the things that it could be used for. I was really hoping you may have canned it also.
Oh my gosh, the ham I canned after watching your videos is now officially gone lol. I also just can meat in half pints because it’s just the two of us now, and I put the last jar of cubed ham in my processor and made ham salad. It was absolutely yummy. Another is pea and ham salad. And ham and potato hash. So good.
I was wondering if its okay to add a little brown sugar and pineapple juice to the broth. I wouldn't add it to all the jars but they are things I like with ham, Or would it be better to add it later?
I've noticed when you make your videos that it seems like you're having difficulty breathing. I would recommend when you are not doing something to do some breathing exercises. Breathing deep all the way into your abdomen and filling out all of your lungs and then using your abdominal muscles to push the air back out through your mouth. I think a lot of times we have a tendency to shallow breath too much which makes it more difficult to breathe. I do that sometimes when I am not paying attention or when I'm stressed out. But when I take the time to breathe deeply it helps exercise my lungs and helps me to get more fuller breaths.
Unfortunately, Covid damaged my lungs, among other things. The microphone on my camera picks it up. If I take the microphone off, you can't hear me clearly. I have deep breathing exercises that I do very frequently but they do not seem to be making much difference. I did not even know "long haul syndrome of Covid" was a thing until my doctor sent me for some tests... Now I understand why I have a hard time breathing, a hard time focusing, and a hard time just moving some days. I am here on the days I can be.
@@FyreflyesFollies I found out about Lonv Covid, too. My lungs weren't damaged, but I seem to be permanently exhausted, have muscle pain and can't stay focused with a flip. Also, my hair and nails seem to be permanently damaged. No one mentioned hair loss until I'd already lost half my hair and my nails were paper thin.
@@SuHu62 I have joint and muscle pain that is so bad some days I can't walk or lift my arms. I am also exhausted, and have the brain fog some days. I can't remember words, or use the wrong words. My hair and nails are also thin and brittle, but I did not realize that was from long covid. My doctors have no idea how long this will last, or if it will get better or worse... it is so frustrating.
@@FyreflyesFollies I think the hair and nails thing seems so insignificant next to everything else that people just don't mention it. I thought my hair loss was from all the stress until someone asked me if I was experiencing hair loss, too. I'm still smelling cigarette smoke more often than not, too.
@@SuHu62 I was never diagnosed with covid-19; but, I'm pretty sure I had it in March 2020, such a strange flu (I thought at the time). I have nearly all long haulers symptoms, but, not very severe. I smell cigarette smoke all the time. My husband quit smoking in 2019, and when he did smoke, it was always outside. I have never smoked. It's frustrating.
You've got me canning EVERYTHING!😊😉
Hahaha me, too!
LOL I can EVERYTHING myself!

I keep 91% alcohol in a spray bottle by my kitchen sink. I dare say my counter tops are cleaner than some folks' cutting boards.
Thank you!!

Geeze O'Pete...
Your kitchen, your rules...
Have a ham that needs canned.
And am going to try ham & beans...
I love ham and beans - especially pintos and ham or black eyed peas with okra and ham!
Im so doing this!!!
Have you ever showed a video on your pantry? I need suggestions on how to organize mine. I love oatmeal that those are just perfect. Thank you
Great idea!! I have had a few requests to see the new apartment, so I will get a video of my pantry (and the rest of the apartment) up soon.
How to you make the olives and ham
I will do a video next time I can ham and olives. I love having it on hand.

Any meat I can find on sale I've been canning up as fast as I can. Prices keep going up so fast, it's only way to keep my pantry full.
Same here!
I'm curious about ham and olives, too. Do you can the remaining ham broth?
I do can the broth. I keep it on hand for when I can beans.
@@FyreflyesFollies👍 I had been thinking how good some pinto beans would be in that broth 😋

Can you use hot water bath method? I don't have a working pressure canner
New to canning here. Just subbed. How do you know when to hot water bath or pressure can?

I filled jars and added it to the canner for when I need it. I like to keep it on hand for when I can up beans from dry.
What kind of canner do you recommend for a beginner??
Why is it that when I can ham, some comes out perfect and others come out dark brown and taste almost burnt?

you could add, but keep in mind that sugar could leave a "scorched" flavor when processing taht long.
