I miss Home Bargains 😀 In Manchester our local corner shop used to sell DAB. Now I live in Cyprus and a couple of months ago I was able to get some 330ml bottles of DAB and Jever delivered from a beer shop in Nicosia. I still have a couple of bottles of each left.

regarding to the DAB beer: for someone who is not only interested in drinking beer, but also the history and the production of beer, there are so many many details to untangle here.
e.g. an "Export" beer ist always a "Lager" beer. the German word "Lager" translates to "storage". it'is a bottom-fermented beer that is brewed at low temperatures and has a slightly higher abv with the aim of being able to be stored (German = gelagert) for a longer period of time (or be exported on it's long way to the UK 😉).

Export has usually the higher ABV (5% and upwards, Pils is usually below that) and Pilsener usually has higher IBU (in the range between 25 - 45, Export is in the range of 20 - 30). DAB Export has 27 IBU and of the more bitter export beers.

I drain DAB Export 4 pack pint+ cans almost every day. Love it. It's my go to. I'd hoped to see you review it. I couldn't find a prior one. I think it beats the heck out of Pilsner Urquell too. 🙌

Yeah I personally think Pilsner Urquell is overrated, there far better lagers out there

I didn't see that in my local HB but they had 3 Higsons Brewery of Liverpool beers : a best bitter, brown ale and golden ale.

collagen isn't as bad as it sounds. it's just the stuff that lubricates ours and all animals joints! think the chewy bit on the end of a chicken drumstick. it's key to good soups and stews etc.

Always thought DAB tasted a bit odd compared to other Dortmunder Export beers? Other than Dortmunder Union and DAB most of the other Brewers of it have now gone.

most of them still exist, but are harder to find. They are all brewed at the same brewery these days.

The lager looks refreshing....I usually have dried salted peanuts or almonds with beer, but I'd definitely try these salami bites...
Lidl and Aldi can be a bit more adventurous both with the beer and snacks than the big 4 supermarkets

"It does lack the hops", but you also said that it has nice bitterness coming through at the end. We all have different tastes and nowadays everybody's palate is numbed by all the hop bombs around and personally I feel a bit tired of the pilsners (and *very* tired of American hops). I have to say that Dortmunder Export is probably my favourite type of lager right now. I even prefer it to all the Munich Helles I've tried (they are often one-dimensional). It is so incredibly drinkable and I don't mean it as in 'watery', but on the contrary it is smooth, but not bland, perfectly balanced and, most importantly, has that quality that makes me want to take another sip very quickly.

Simon, the "paper" you are referring too is just the casing on the sausage as you would get on any sausage, Cumberland, bratwurst, it gives the sausage it's shape and holds the meat together when it's being formed, you don't peel it off 😂😂, they have salami covered in garlic in Germany and that's on the casing, you wouldn't peel that off would you?

I picked up a Tsingtao and one of these DAB Dortmunder exports this evening, first time trying these beers, but they seem very flat. I don't usually buy beer from homebargains, is there a way the carbonation could be effected in the supply chain somehow? I would have assumed it would be from the brewery, but 2/2 different brewers.

Frankfurt??? Rubbish, Krombacher and Warsteiner are both in Eastern, North-Rhine-Westfalia around the Sauerland, to the East of Dortmund and Cologne. At least ninety miles north of Frankfurt am Main. And it's pronounced "Varsteiner" not "War......".

    • @martinkasper197

Schöfferhofer comes from Frankfurt am Main. Also Henninger from the past.

Don't care about the beers that 'do' come from the Frankfurt area. Time 10:28 he said Krombacher and Warsteiner do? Since when has the Sauerland been near Frankfurt?
