Why Is It So Hard To Reach Enlightenment - Swami Sarvapriyananda

The final section of the Mundaka Upanishad begins with a mantra praising the realization of transcendent Brahman. It highlights that this Brahman is present everywhere, including in the universe we currently experience. The enlightened one sees the universe as pervaded by Brahman, transcending mundane distinctions. Those who worship such a sage with devotion and renounce worldly desires can attain enlightenment and break free from the cycle of birth and death.
The text delves into why enlightenment seems elusive and who can achieve it. It explains that desires for worldly objects arise from a sense of lack, leading to a bottomless pursuit for fulfillment. However, true satisfaction lies within, recognizing one's infinite nature. Ignorance of this reality breeds desires, which fuel actions and their consequences, perpetuating the cycle of rebirth.
The pursuit of desires, seen and unseen, traps individuals in a cycle of action and reaction, leading to further embodiments. Desire, when thwarted, begets anger, delusion, and ultimately, self-destructive actions. Liberation, on the other hand, comes to those who renounce worldly desires and find fulfillment within themselves or through devotion to God. This liberation is attainable in this life itself, not just in the afterlife, emphasizing the immediacy of spiritual realization.

It's not easy to resist the temptations of Maya. You are a Buddha if you succeed.

I am very far from the strength and renunciation necessary to get beyond the false self awareness; but I can be aware of what I do and observe from the witness consciousness at least a little. And I can repeat the name of G-d. And I can try to do service. And I can sometimes sense the pure awareness that is the reflection of the ultimate, if I stop and put my attention within.

We can experience the ‘waker’ and the ‘waker’s world while we are awake. Also the dreamer and the dreamer’s world when asleep. Does the ‘waker’ goes to sleep and becomes the dreamer OR is it that the awareness during waking state goes to sleep and the ONE who knows or witnesses the ‘waker and his world ‘ also knows the dreamer( sleeping awareness) and his world .

This is Manju. I am listening to this talk now, but the things you are saying about self revelation, I read that in the book called Grace by Swamiji Ranganathan. I discussed this with you at Toronto Vedant society. That time it was not that clear to me.
    Thank you for clarifying 🙏

Excuse me, but in Brahman one no longer desires anything. One becomes content. Good luck giving up desires before you experience Brahman.

Yes, it's impossible to remove all desires but 1 can Remove as many as possible through viveka and vairagya. Recognition of Self as Brahman

Sri Sidderameshwar Maharaj became my Guru when I read these words: it is not possible to be without desire so let your only desire be for the boon of devotion. Even beyond the desire of liberation

What about the desire to “know the mind of God, the rest are details”? This is attributed to Albert Einstein.

@@108newyork9with the aid of strong psychedelics, I experienced desirelessness. It was, unimaginably wonderful. Later, I knew, that in life, there is even a desire to find relief from the ache of density, and gravity. Good luck escaping those without aid! I'd say, I got a brief experience of samadhi... and I wish I could achieve it again, on my own
