I'm actually moving back in with my mom this Wednesday on the 19th. After spending 10 years on my own, making 44k and still living pay check to pay check almost, I said F it I'm going back home and starting over. Put my 2 weeks in and got a job at the local hospital as a cardiac monitor tech and start in August, new career field and mom said not to pay a single cent for rent, just save for a house. For the first time in like seven years I'm so excited in life again. Sure I'm living with my parents again but I'm never gonna take that for granted ever again. Ten years of struggling was not worth it, my only regret is not starting over in life again sooner.

This is beyond just good collecting advice from Rudy lol. I lived at my parents place from birth to 29 with 2 quick stops in other states for jobs. Every “mom’s basement” meme felt like it was directed right at me. In the meantime I saved almost every dollar I made and made enough to put a solid down payment on a home. Now I own a home with a realistic mortgage that I can actually afford. If you have that sort of relationship with your parents, do it. Not only will you save money, but you’ll absolutely love the fact that you spent a lot of time with them while you could.

To Rudy’s point about American culture and living with parents. When my wife and I started dating I lived with my parents (I was 28) and for the first several weeks I tried desperately to hide that fact from her for the reasons outlined in the video. My wife was born and raised in Brazil and when she found out she was very confused as she viewed it as normal. Years later we live together in a home we own but still laugh about those first two weeks of shenanigans. Used the 30k I saved while living with my parents to put the down payment on our home. It’s a good thing and silly to be ashamed of it.

After my father passed away I paid off my moms house, remodeled and currently paying off all my debt. Its small debt and have 90k in my annuity just saving for a down payment for a house of my own. I don't care what anyone thinks. I'd rather live here pay off everything and be debt free and buy a multi family unit and have them pay for my mortgage than be cool on my own in an apartment for 2-3k a month when I can own a house lol. I work with kids and the 'live at home with your parents as long as you can' thing (like Rudy said) is a conversation I am having every week with one of them. They want to move out the day they turn 18 and spend 70% of their minimum wage paycheck to live in a really crappy little apartment. I worry/expect they will never be able to save a dime and will get into debt. I have no idea how the 'stigma' about living at home is what it is, because it is a smart decision if your parents are stable, relatively healthy people. I personally lived with my parents for a few years in my mid 20s and was able to pay off a lot of debt and look for a good job, not just any job. And then I moved across the country to accept that job, now own my own house, etc.

3:25 you also forgot to mention how in America you get shamed upon if you drive a car that's within your means.
If your guy you have to drive a "Work Truck" and if you're a woman you have to drop a full-size SUV if you drive anything else people will shame you. Then when you're 65 you only have eighty thousand if you're lucky in your 401k

If someone you know shames you for owning a vehicle within your means then you shouldn't know them any more. They do not have your best interest in mind. Cars are a rip off. I'd rather drive a paid off 10+ year old Honda any day of the week than some flashy or massive new truck/SUV. Cars/trucks/SUVs are always going to depreciate in value, shockingly so for new vehicles. Let some other dummy take that $10,000 hit for driving off the lot in the name of looking cool points. Let them take it back and forth to the dealership for the next couple years in case their are any issues or recalls. Then take the money you didn't flush down the toilet and put it back/invest. Doing that will let you own plenty of new cars later in life when you are more stable.

@@jeremysmith4620 This is very true but it doesn't really only mean friends. It also goes with people that might be co-workers, neighbors or people that's overall in society. I have seen it a lot that people shame others for living within your means. Like try finding a Ranch now that's a decent size with decent size rooms with a garage is near impossible. They don't even make them brand new anymore. Why two strong reasons one Society shames people that live within your means. 2 if you own property that your house is on they want you to pay out as much as you can and not have lower electric, property tax and so on.
I have a Samsung S10 I sadly need to get a new phone soon because my screen is starting to go. Like the whole touchscreen capability. But they're all a lot of people that find it very odd that I have a phone so old even though it still works. This also goes to what he said in the video there's people that want to keep on living within the grind on the hamster wheel. If you don't want to live within your means then you're going to be working until you're 65 and I hope you're putting something away in your retirement.
It's the society that the U.S. lives by to shame people living within there means Rudy also said this in his video. But like @kalackninja that never happened 🙄

If you need money sell some , you don’t have to be so extreme and offload absolutely everything all the time, so many people do this in stocks, real estate , and other asset classes , drastic extreme decisions on either side of the coin lol , these types of people never win and have their energy sapped constantly.

I sold out a majority of my high end cards just this week. I kept a dozen good decks in various formats, but moved the power 9 and a lot of duals, shocks, caverns, wastelands, ancient tombs, Nykthos, trilands, other good utility lands and also all the cards from the decks I tore down valued over $2 TCG Market. Since almost all my collection was held in decks, and since my plan was to always build the decks with the highest value version of the card I could find, almost all the cards were by definition, playables with a lot of premium playables that commander players love. I know the LGS loved it. I got 70% cash for all but power. We did power at 75% after negotiating valuse of each card based on condition and recent auction results. I missed the top of the market but I wanted to get out of MTG and get the money into mutual funds. I was not under any duress but I have seen the slide the last two years and wanted to lock in some equity. The days of power outperforming the DOW seem over. Sealed product, I shifted a while back from Magic to Flesh and Blood, only complete cases, and only when they still had 1st edition boxes.
