This game was absolute madness for me and my friends; It was so much damn fun. I truly miss tag battles, it was some of the most wild matches imaginable.
Tag Team was one of the reasons why I liked Mk9 so much .
i really hope they add tag battles back
honestly i'm a bit surprised they never leaned into tag MK at any point because it always seemed like a super cool way to play.
Sadly every time you ask ed boon about mk9 he doesnt wanted to talk about the game, besides the fact that its not on steam anymore
Damn everything about this game has aged well.... The Amory though wow one the best soundtracks in MK.
MK9 still the best MK game in my book, it just doesn't feel the same after it.

Yep! My sister plays video games occasionally but is far from a gamer. She also doesn't play fighting games ever except for she would sometimes play Tekken Tag Tournament with me because we could be on the same team.

Damn, this game still looks great even today! You can't still tell it's not from our recent era of video games, but after all this time it still doesn't look half bad for its age.
Surprise surprise, you don't have to put hundreds of hours into animating every single hair follicle to get a good looking game
Still miss the cartoonish look MK9 had compared to later titles.
That and the classic costumes, especially simpler designs.
That mk9 boss rage was hilarious.
Something about MK9 makes it feel more "pure" than MKX and MK11. It's the last MK I was really into.
MK9 feels like Mortal Kombat. Feel like since then even entry has stripped out some elements that make it FEEL like Mortal Kombat, and make it feel more like an "NRS game".
For me I enjoyed MKX the most.
@@Tremuosohonestly I think it has something to do with the graphics and how everything felt like a sequel but more defined? MKX and 11 just felt like this hyper realistic gore fest, 9 had that campy cartoony MK feel to it.

Smoke was the character that slowly broaden my mind about special move canceling, launchers, and combo extending inputs. I really wish I had more time to learn how to play more than one character than just button and special spamming.
There’s something magical about seeing Max learning how a fighting game works; whether it’s a specific character like Jin in Tekken 7 or combo routes in MK9.
My fav MK game. Enjoyed playing it a lot

I remember when this game came out the psn got hacked and couldn't play online, so i spent the summer just playing arcade mode and the tower it was pretty fun.
I remember that I was a freshman in HS lol that was a big deal
I really hope MK12 goes in a similar direction as MK9. I still view this game as the peak of the series. Fast gameplay, cool combo strings and an amazing story mode. Also no variations🙏

Happy to see that my two favorite fighters- SF and MK -are the two currently spotlighted fighting games on Max's channel. 😌
I'm the exact same way as Max. For me personally, watching a pro player play a character that I'm interested in learning is a very good way for me to understand the character and see what they do. I then try to replicate what they do and as my understanding and skill grows, I begin to try to add my own flare to the character.
Mk9 is probably the most fun I had learning a fighting game, I would spend hours every day after school playing and trying to learn all the combos

Great story roster game modes and online this game had it all and the voice acting was amazing!
MK9 was pretty nuts for jab pressure. I also had to do a double take during your Smoke training; the amount of cyber blood on you made me think you're playing Sub-Zero lol.
Seeing Max trying combos is like some kind of weird ASMR and I love It.
The advantage of ending smoke air combos with jump kick air through, is that at the end of air throw, you can throw ex-smoke bomb for unscaled 10% extra damage. So your 35% combo turns into 45%

This was a perfect Mortal Kombat game. Its amazing to me that all they did was inject more of the stuff that didn't work in V and VI in X and then slowed down MK11 and forced you to know all the combos to be able to string together any semblance of actual combat.
I really hope with Mk12 they open things up combo and speed wise

I haven’t played an MK game since the third installment. All the hype surrounding MK12 has got me itching to play. Great video!
That thumbnail, though. The first thing I immedeately thought of was "Kick, punch, it's all in the mind" (Parappa the Rapper). lol
I learned potem on guilty gear strive and some of the combo grabs like sit clap into heat knuckle was something i never would have thought of without watching pro players. I take pride in making up my own combo but also know it's good to watch those who know the cancels and frame data to optimize as well
Max's best content is when he learns the mechanics of a new fighting game and goes into the lab. That's always been Max's Opus.
My personal favorite thing to do in fighting games, too. Battle for the Grid labbing was fuckin awesome.
Mk9 was the FG I was REALLY good at I put time in this game and I'm glad to see you play it again. I could no joke use Most if the characters but I mained Smoke, Scorpion, ermac and rain.
Me and my buddies in 8th grade would walk to my house in groups of like 8-10 to play tournaments of this game. We'd have our own brackets and everything. We even got so far into it where if someone had a fatality preformed on them they were not allowed to use that character again for the remainder of the day
This game was something special, and the game that revived Mortal Kombat. Me and my brother used to play 2vs.2 online, and it was so damn fun. We would typically look for a match with 2 other people. I was one of the best at this game back in my day.

I remember as a kid playing Liu against all my friends. You can just repeat the B312 string 3 times and its an easy 30% low starter combo. Everyone within my friend group used to consider him the best in the game cause no one knew how to play. Fun times
I really like the sfx for the impact on metallic characters. if it’s there in mk11, I can barely notice it.
I remember watching Cyrax in tournament in this game being absolutely broken

MK9 was my childhood basically, and it was the first fighting game I saw my Dad play. That and Streetfighter 2 Turbo HD. He would main Noob Saibot and Scorpion.
My friends and I played this game so much after school.
being 21 years old MK9 was my first real dive into MK with the exception of the tv plug in arcade OG MK and i have fond memories of both

Mk9 was so amazing.. the game that got me into competitive fighters.. it was awesome watching this, I hope Max tries out more characters.. it would be hilarious watching him see how broken some of these characters were 😂

Back in the day, I had a group of friends that all loved playing this game on the couch. Everyone had their own pool of characters too. Nothing has ever gotten close to that except maybe Melee. Fun times.
I just got a flashback to when SBFP did the challenge tower. Time has gone by so fast and I miss SBFP so much
Anytime I load up MK9 I like to go to training mode and just do full screen into corner combos with Kenshi as they were so fun to do

Is it just me or is this game more visually pleasing than MKX? I know a lot of people like MKX's graphics but I just don't see it.

My favorite MK game alongside 2 and Shaolin Monks, such a great game, i've learned all Scorpion combos and fatalities at the time such an amazing game.

Best story mode and character designs of all MK's. Also Kratos as a DLC character and actual fun towers

After mk 9 all the music slowed down especially the fighter select screen to get you hyped.
I loved playing this game for the first time at a friend's on his ps3. He wasn't particularly good at combos so he'd hand over the controller and id play story mode as he watched the cut scenes.
This could be a cool idea for like a new series! Max plays mk9!!

I had so much fun with this game I bought the super expensive TE with the arcade stick and I've never looked back. Walking into tournaments with this big brick of a stick
You know, seeing how Tekken 8 and SF6 truly changed a lot for it's predecessor (obviously, but you get what I mean) I wonder how Mortal Kombat 12 would play out.

I wish he’d get back on mk11, I think that there’s so much more stuff learned/ discovered now about the game then when he last played it. Like combo paths and such.
I have a hard time choosing a favorite Mortal Kombat, but this one always shows up in my mind as the Top 3 at least.

As an ex-Smoke Main in MK9, Max's wonder over the EX Smoke Bomb reset sure brought me back lol. Though IIRC overtime you learn that the reset EX Bomb isn't RNG but more of a matter of timing (and kinda why people do it the F+4 ender).

You can neutral jump 2, after smoke ball. And Noob Saibot is also really good but cheap. Combos can be flashy, I recommend looking some up as well

If I'm being honest I think Mortal Kombat 9 had some of the best fatalities in this game I eat Noob Saibot Wishbone fatalities and Kung lao's buzzsaw hat.
I also wish they'd kept some of the art designs from Mortal Kombat 9 and X, and had them as DLC costumes for MK11 who knows we might actually get it for in MK12. Just seem maxplay as smoke is most enjoyable I'm glad to see his Hypeness is just as infectious for everybody especially after witnessing the demo presentation of Street Fighter 6

I played this game until the last days the seevers were up. It's the only game in which I learned to use almost every character, I truly miss it; the best MK NRS has ever made.
-Fun fact: the patch version you play in training mode/local/offline, and the online patch version were different; that reset with EX Smoke Bomb would never work online, also there were some set ups with Sub Zero that online worked online, for example.
I love this game, I wish nrs would revisit this style with the next game
Best comeback game of any franchise
I used to be more of a "Street Fighter" guy in the past and never really a "fan" of Mortal Kombat, but MK 9 was simply fantastic.
Had a ton of fun with it and.... kinda surprised how good this game still looks ^^
My favourites were Scorpion, Smoke, Ermac and Meleena
