mk9 was a modern (at the time) version that brought all the elements that the fans loved from the og trilogy. The tag mode was so great and so were the x rays

100% agree with you. I love that players had the choice of whether or not to play them as robots or humans and would love that to be an option for MK1 if they find their way onto the main roster.
Still the best MK game in the NRS era. Perfect blend of cheesy, serious, sexy, bloody, and the story mode was such a gift to those of us who were familiar with the first 3 games. Although i enjoyed X, its a shame how much they changed direction, especially with the female characters.
Nah female character designs in 9 were too much they went too far from the normal for the series that it was just weird. X had way better designs for them. Also the story honestly just spat in the face of the original 3 games story, if you were familiar with them. It got a lot of things wrong & very flawed writing. I think MK9 is a great game but also had some flaws.

I do think Soyna's didn't make much sense considering she's special forces but the Edenian female ninjas had all used their "looks" to an advantage in most of the lore I'm familiar with, especially Mileena. Plus MK has always been over the top. The outrage regarding the character models reminded me a lot of how people freaked about the violence during the arcade era. And I thought the story almost followed the first 3 games spot on. Especially MK 1&2. They got a little wild with game 3's intro into the story of MK9 because at that point they had to start pushing things toward the new direction they were going. But it's all good! People are welcome to like what they like. That's what makes the series fun 👍
My cousin and I were on God mode with Sektor and Ermac. We had ridiculous tag combos we’d have tournaments it was a slaughterhouse. Shame on NRS for dumping tag mode.

People are idiots, tag team mode not being in recent games is why I’ve not bought any mk since this one. What was more fun than playing on the same team as a mate and tagging out when you were struggling to have your teammate put in a shift. So good.

People wanted tag team in MK1(although they named it Kameos, it’s still tag team), they got it and still complaining about it. MK1 isn’t perfect. Nothing is, but I don’t get the hate MK1 has.

I would have 2 v 2 nights with a crew of friends at the house, and it was so much fun to just mix and match and have strategies and tag-team moves to have your partner continue the attack. It was way better than cameos and ahead of its time.
In my opinion, MK9 was and still is the perfect MK I know Kabal Kenshi Cyrax, Sonya Johnny Freddy and Kratos where Dumb broken in this game but this was Before Balance Patches and constant updates where a thing
It's so simple. No need to overwhelm yourself needing to learn variations or a second character at the same time. You can get away with learning how to fight with one character on MK9.
Broken characters are actually great for newer and younger newbies to the game in fun and casual matches. I remember playing with my younger cousins and despite being new to the game, they could still keep up with me thanks to those cheesy characters and it was really fun. Good times
Lets face it, uncagedgamez basically said mk1 cant compete with mk9 and that’s a fact. I love the emphasis on how strong punches felt. I think that is a big issue in mk1.
The reason why MK9 is so great is Midway designed the whole game when Midway was going Bankrupt. WB Then came in and told them to finish the game and they would release it. After MK9, WB Inserted the Sweet Baby Diversity into the game, which has had a weak effect on the game, when you uppercut you don't get "outstanding" the aggressive Select Screen music, is gone... all of these things seems mediocre but have ruined the feel of the game. MK9 was the last great MK game. I did like MKX as the diversity stuff was lite but MK11 and MK1 I can't stand.
This was the last time Mortal Kombat was actually good. MK9 imo is a masterpiece of a game. Def the best MK next to MK Deception, MK3, Shaolin Monks. The character designs were awesome, the roster was great, I loved the guest characters and the returning MK characters, the modes were fun, tag battles are fun, the costumes are amazing, it wasn't censored back then like it is now due to overweight jealous people.
Another fact about mk9 that isn’t talked about much is how in the tag team assist game mode you can play with up to 4 real people on the same system with individual controllers so everyone would be able to play and forced to actually work as a team when calling swamping places I thought this was good in my opinion definitely made memories with my fam on that mode😭💯
I was a die hard Street Fighter fan back in the day. (Still am 😂) But I played this at a buddy's house after work back in the day. It was surreal seeing stages from the first MKs remastered so beautifully. The gameplay, story mode, arcade endings, and the amount of sheer content packed into this was insane. You could tell that they put their heart and soul into this one. Needless to say, I became a die hard NRS fan afterwards 😅
We're only 1 game into the new timeline and I already miss the dark tones of this game and the og timeline. I want to go back to that. Shao Kahn is the best villain and relegating him to a general with an axe just feels... wrong.
Another thing about this game that was awesome, the fact that there were no (seriously) horrible characters. Every character had at least 2 or 3 redeeming qualities
We are being forced to play the cameos. Tag team in Mk9 was the shittt. Tryna beat your 2 cousins because your other cousin went down were some of the best moments in my life playing that game.
Side Note: Tag teamode was unpopular because it was difficult to play online with different connections and PCs servers are up but desserted eanna make a vid on this tbh

@@Southernguy41 It's not the same. First off, it wasn't a cameo, though there WERE cameo tag moves you could do. Second, you could have combos that led to a tag and extended combos. Third, and probably most importantly, it was two playable characters versus two playable characters, and the round ended when both were defeated, with a health recharge as the game progresses. It made for strategy, skill, and a bit of fun. In short, I get this is a gotcha response, but you're respectfully, off-base in this.
This is the last one that truly has the komplete MK aesthetic. The colors, the music, THE ROSTER IS GOATED. Just a slight touch up on the graphics in a remaster would be amazing. MK1 has brought back some of the lovable cheesiness but overall still doesn’t have the IT that mk9 had.

This game got me back into mk. My friends and I spent countless hours and made so many memories bc of mk9. It was shortly before everyone started getting married and moving away...it was the last hoorah of our childhood in the 90s
MK9 was really a gift, if only MK1 would live to or exceed it's greatness. The original MK1 all the way to MK9 needs a remaster including the spinoff games. That should've been what we got for the 30th anniversary.
MK9 was definitely the best in the series. Gameplay was fluid, good combos/movesets. It was a pretty well balanced game character wise too imo. I was able to use just about anybody and win once I really got into the mechanics of the game. Story line was good - but i felt like it could have ended better. Def my fav of the series though.

I still have my copy of MK9, got a lot of great memories with that game. Only two MK tournaments I ever played in were for MK9, and the first time I beat End Game on the challenge tower was with a big group of friends who used to watch me play. Loved those days.
As a Singleplayer person, this was such a huge game. An actually good Story Mode, loads of things to do, skins to collect, Kratos as a bonus character. Especially in Germany this was huge, since it was the first true 3D Mortal Kombat game that wasn't censored in Germany.

I absolutely loved mk9 when it came out. It completely revitalized the MK scene and the timing couldn’t have been more perfect because of the foundation that guys like Shock created by holding tournaments for UMK3. The East coast scene blew up when this game came out. I remember watching the VSM streams that 995 hosted and all the talent that would compete week after week. JamessMK returning, the beef with the community and PerfectLegend, all the fallout that was left behind with the competitive scene in UMK3 as it transitioned into mk9. The CD brothers, reo, and Tom Brady. You just had to be there, there’s no way else to put it. Unfortunately though, mk9 had that massive bug that killed it IMO. The ducking input bug and player 1 advantage. I think once people discovered those bugs, it basically destroyed MK’s reputation and there were also no plans for expansions. NRS released a few dlc characters and then basically axed the game. An expansion version of mk9 that buffed characters and fixed the game would have given mk9 such a longer lifespan but they went straight to Injustice which was unfortunate IMO but I guess that depends on who you talk to. I think MK1 feels the closest to mk9 tbh. It feels very snappy and fast paced but unfortunately, MK in general is just not a very popular series in terms of the competitive scene. I’ve said it before but MK is always only hype every time a game comes out or an expansion. The characters help lengthen the games lifespan during that time period but it never lasts long and it’s because the games are always very broken. NRS tells such great stories but I’d be lying if I said they made balanced fighting games.

2 v 2 play was my jam. I feel they dropped the ball by not releasing this in later games.

@@Batman-sq5hx yes. I used to host 2 on 2s at my house, and you could play 2 v 2s online with two people in the same house and console.

First off, it wasn't a cameo, though there WERE cameo tag moves you could do. Second, you could have combos that led to a tag and extended combos.
Third, and probably most importantly, it was two playable characters versus two playable characters, and the round ended when both were defeated, with a health recharge as the game progresses. It made for strategy, skill, and a bit of fun.
In short, I get this is a gotcha response, but you're respectfully, off-base in this.

This is the last one that truly has the komplete MK aesthetic. The colors, the music, THE ROSTER IS GOATED. Just a slight touch up on the graphics in a remaster would be amazing. MK1 has brought back some of the lovable cheesiness but overall still doesn’t have the IT that mk9 had.
Man im disappointed with mortal kombat 1 on ps5 jean claude van damme needed more work to it and needed more moves and hype i waited since 1992 for van damme in a video game
This was the first fighting game I ever played online and I loved it so much. Glad to see it’s still making the rounds all these years later. Idk what it was about this game but it was just so great man, especially roasting friends in KOTH. Just take me back man, I’d do it all over again.

This game got me back into mk. My friends and I spent countless hours and made so many memories bc of mk9. It was shortly before everyone started getting married and moving away...it was the last hoorah of our childhood in the 90s
MK9 was really a gift, if only MK1 would live to or exceed it's greatness.
The original MK1 all the way to MK9 needs a remaster including the spinoff games. That should've been what we got for the 30th anniversary.
MK9 was definitely the best in the series. Gameplay was fluid, good combos/movesets. It was a pretty well balanced game character wise too imo. I was able to use just about anybody and win once I really got into the mechanics of the game. Story line was good - but i felt like it could have ended better. Def my fav of the series though.
The mk 1 story is disappointing. They need to go back to the og timeline

I still have my copy of MK9, got a lot of great memories with that game. Only two MK tournaments I ever played in were for MK9, and the first time I beat End Game on the challenge tower was with a big group of friends who used to watch me play. Loved those days.
It's crazy being reminded of how fun MK 9 was and seeing just how far we've fallen since MK 11. And people swear MK 11/12 is peak MK gaming. Psh.
The most satisfying I ever done is Challenge Tower level 300. This stuff took me years to get good, and when I did I only got naked Mileena lol.

As a Singleplayer person, this was such a huge game. An actually good Story Mode, loads of things to do, skins to collect, Kratos as a bonus character.
Especially in Germany this was huge, since it was the first true 3D Mortal Kombat game that wasn't censored in Germany.
I just want injustice 3 or an injustice remaster

@@Druski_1 yes the ninja turtles aren't bad. However, looking back at the way spawn played in mk11, I think he would've been a lot more fun in injustice 2.

I absolutely loved mk9 when it came out. It completely revitalized the MK scene and the timing couldn’t have been more perfect because of the foundation that guys like Shock created by holding tournaments for UMK3.
The East coast scene blew up when this game came out. I remember watching the VSM streams that 995 hosted and all the talent that would compete week after week. JamessMK returning, the beef with the community and PerfectLegend, all the fallout that was left behind with the competitive scene in UMK3 as it transitioned into mk9. The CD brothers, reo, and Tom Brady. You just had to be there, there’s no way else to put it.
Unfortunately though, mk9 had that massive bug that killed it IMO. The ducking input bug and player 1 advantage. I think once people discovered those bugs, it basically destroyed MK’s reputation and there were also no plans for expansions. NRS released a few dlc characters and then basically axed the game. An expansion version of mk9 that buffed characters and fixed the game would have given mk9 such a longer lifespan but they went straight to Injustice which was unfortunate IMO but I guess that depends on who you talk to.
I think MK1 feels the closest to mk9 tbh. It feels very snappy and fast paced but unfortunately, MK in general is just not a very popular series in terms of the competitive scene. I’ve said it before but MK is always only hype every time a game comes out or an expansion. The characters help lengthen the games lifespan during that time period but it never lasts long and it’s because the games are always very broken. NRS tells such great stories but I’d be lying if I said they made balanced fighting games.
The online modes are what holds this game back now. I love MK9 but it needs a Kombat League now IMO. Same goes for MKX.
