At that point why have the wedding at all? Last thing I want is be around homophobic people tbh. Just because you don’t invite your brother doesn’t mean they stop talking like that. It be so fucking draining at the wedding with those people.

I was raised by a trans woman and am so so proud to call her mom. I have watched the vitriol thrown at her for 30+ years and she always meets it with love, smiles, and light. She hasn't found her forever person due to the issues with my bio, but I know one day she will find the right one. Everyone deserves love. I hope she will find a partner as ride or die for her as the first OP. 🙏

@@charlottehenthorn I completely disagree. I think it's very important to show WHAT bigotry actually looks like. That dude was told by so many people that he was making the wrong choice and how to fix it, and instead of listening he chose again to do what he wanted without regard to his brother's feelings. It is important for people to understand that most homophobia looks like THIS, rather than overt bible thumping hate crimes. People get away with plausible deniability homophobia because they can justify it to themselves.

Here's the thing. They're assuming the fiances family is going to make a scene. They don't have to like it, but can't you have a conversation with them, letting them know there will be gay couple as the wedding and it's important they be civil for a few hours? Why punish the brother and his husband? Just tell the family that everyone should behave and be civil towards each other, it they can't, then don't come. If they make a scene, have them leave (maybe hire security). There was zero chance of that conversation going well with OP's brother. What a STUPID decision from OP.

MIL in the 1st story thinking she can decide the baby's name and who will be present for the birth is truly bizarre. There's something extremely wrong with that woman. I can see them needing a restraining order in the future because if she's already crossing boundries that extreme, I'm incredibly worried that there's nothing this woman won't do. She seems to be the type to kidnap or even breastfeed the child... you know, the scary AF type. Protect that child at all costs from that woman!

2nd story - Not inviting the brother's husband is punishing the victim of the homophobia instead of holding the people committing it accountable for their own behavior. If that's okay with you, then by all means, but you should be willing to stand up for your brother if you actually care about him. The correct answer is to remove anyone who is acting inappropriately from the event if they cannot behave like adults, not giving in to the bullying.

    • @alias-majik

42:17 Yeah my husband use to volunteer me for things when we dated and I shut that down.
I would be stuck doing meals for church or working the sound system while he did other things. Then another time where he told a coworker I would babysit his kids for extra money.
I told him that I didn’t appreciate being pawned off for free labor or for complete strangers for him to profit.
I tore him a new one and he quickly realized that he was being a STINKY man.
He stopped doing it and now he asks me how I feel about situations and I tell him what I’m comfortable with.

2nd story: OP can decide not to invite his brother-in-law to his wedding, but he will have to deal with the fact that his brother probably won't be at his wedding either. I think it will show his brother that he isn't supportive of his brother and brother-in-law. And he may be destroying his relationship with his brother. OP is an idiot. Even after all the comments, OP still did the opposite of what all the commenters advised. Of course OP's fiancée is okay with how OP dealt with it. She's probably as bigoted as the rest of her family.

While I can see why it could come off that way I get the impression that he’s probably closer to a people pleaser than anything. He wants to find the easiest way to make his wedding day go smoothly and while also wanting to set up life with his future in laws as easy as possible. Unfortunately so many people who love each other get divorced not necessarily because of their relationship and personal differences but issues and differences involved each others family’s. It’s a shitty situation and to be honest it’s something his future wife should have spoke to her parents about.
My parents wouldn’t of but if they were the kind of asshholes that hated a stranger for something as silly as how someone chooses to live their life especially when those choices don’t hurt other people I would have talked to them and said look we are having a wedding and I want everyone to go and to have a happy time. I don’t want to hear anything outrageous or even remotely negative on or about anything involving my wedding or I will lose my freaking mind. Again it’s not something I would need to do but it’s something I would have already for seen as a possible issue and so I would have wanted to get it sorted out as early as possible.
Ultimately I obviously feel bad for the brother and his husband cause it’s a shit position to be in but I also feel bad for op because weddings and everything involving them are already so stressful on top of whatever else is going on in day to day life so honestly it’s not even something people should have to deal with at all.
My husband has family members that don’t always get along with my family members…now this is something that has slowly transpired over the years after our wedding had already happened. Oddly enough these people who aren’t fond of each other fail to see just how similar they are but it is what it is. The only family events that we really have to worry about combining our family together our birthday party’s which is like 3 times a year if that and because everyone’s lives are so busy my husband and I don’t even always have a big family birthday party for ourselves every year and if we don’t not everyone is always available to come. So yearly everyone gets together for our daughter birthday party and that’s about it. They might see each other in passing since we all live near by but there really isn’t a lot of family events so now I’m questioning if I’m supposed to be having more like family parties and stuff like that…. I hope all my blabbering has made sense. I apologize in advance if for some reason I haven’t

In the second story, he is rewarding the bigotry. They are the ones with the issue. Why should the brother be punished? Op is condoning their actions by not standing up. For safety, I would invite everyone, get security, and have anyone starting anything hateful to be escorted out. Just make sure your brother and his husband are aware so they can keep their guard up or not attend. Better yet elope and bring your brother and BIL as the witnesses. Ok, I watched to the end of that story, apparently I agree with the guys 😂

Storytime: after my parents divorced me and my siblings and mom, moved from Dallas to Keller. And i started a whole new school and there was this kid, Jack (not real name) he was the school delinquent for my class at least. This is like 6th grade and he was constantly going to disciplinary school in and out of juvie and then one day he up and vanished. Turned out his parents didn't know how to handle him so they turned him over to his grandparents and then in highschool some years later he was sent back and the process went over again. Don't know what happened to him after graduation or if he even did graduate. But he was sticking to his guns as being a "badass" and in the 6th grade he thought I was the weirdest kid ever and i didn't care. I was a goody two shoes as everyone put it. But then again if you had a strict single mother like i did, you'd be scared to get in trouble too. End of storytime. Getting Tamera help for her behavior problems might just help her and you out instead of letting her act how she is doing already. I also heard nasty rumors about Jack's parents that should not be shared but i don't know if that's true or not because he was sent to his grandparents by someone so don't know the details about that.

34:41 - Nope Nope Nope. But my first wedding was going to be at a Roman Catholic Church. I went to the priest and asked if my gay brother and his partner were welcome, also if my gay brother was welcomed to take part in communion as he was raised Roman Catholic. My brother was not allowed. I would not have my wedding in that church. Luckily the priest said that my brother and his partner were both made from God and were welcome and my brother welcome to participate in communion. I didn’t give a crap about what my fiancé of the family thought of my gay brother. he was my brother. He would be there with his partner who I love dearly.

Story 2: OP needs to have a heart to heart with their fiance and ask her to either not invite the bigoted family or ask her to tell them to behave. It's unfair to ask the brother and brother's husband. But honestly, OP is set on taking the easy way out. I feel bad for OP's brother. If I was OP's fiance, I would tell my parents they need to behave or I would not want them there.
Ome last thing: the fiance is NOT as reformed as he makes it sound. That woman preferred to appease her bigoted family rather than have her future husband have his brother in law there. OP is the AH all the way for the way he handled all of it.

Yeaaa they're 100% paying for the wedding. If you're having difficulty choosing your brother & his husband over a bunch of homophobes there's a HIGH chance those homophobes are footing the wedding bill. The fiancé telling him he "did the right thing" to me, is confirmation of that. And to me his fiancé didn't "grow away" from them. If she did she'd be barely speaking with them.

The fact she insists on calling the child ISAAC regardless of what they chose of the baby is a big ole red flag. Then his family broke into their home? WTF??? Big time no contact. There is no love their...just a weird sort of entitlement. Like I said, the next thing that would have gone down would be the family or mother in law to be trying to take the child away from them. It's absurd that you would even need that disclaimer for grown adults at an adult event. I cannot fathom a situation where I would ever start that kind of drama at any kind of event, especially a family member's wedding! If you cannot keep your mouth shut and mind your manners for a few hours for your daughter's wedding, then I don't know what to tell you other than get out.

2nd story - a Sam comment I missed on first listen that was chilling on repeat watch: he can bring his husband as his friend. Reinventing the closet and single handedly taking us back to the 90s and earlier, when we couldnt be with our partners openly to protect the fragile comfort of cishets everywhere. This is something Sam should sit with and think about as it is an incredibly harmful mentality to have towards queer people.

In that one, the grooms wife's family was super homophobic, brother was asked if hubby could stay home, he said he didn't want to go cos of social anxiety. He thought the groom told their parents he wasn't coming, but day of they called asking where he was. He told them where he was and why, and they got PISSED. They confronted the groom and wife's family at the reception and a HUGE fight broke out cos wifes family was disgusting. Can't remember much because it was all just crazy and I'm exhausted, but look for it, it's a good one. Possibly on two hot takes. Possibly smoshpit

If I showed up to someone's house to help them move, everything better be packed cuz I'm not helping to pack their personal stuff. Jeez what a cluster.

Regarding the brother’s husband story, my opinion is pretty simple. OP can’t be tolerant of his in laws’ intolerance and still be supportive of his brother. I also noticed that every time the husband was mentioned, he was “brother’s husband” instead of “brother in law.” I think OP subconsciously revealed early that he’s nowhere near as supportive as he thinks he is.

I hate how people pretend you can be neutral about homophobia. If you uninvited someone because of their sexuality YOU ARE HOMOPHOBIC. Because you are actively supporting homophobic people and choosing to surround yourself with bad people just because you don’t personally believe bad things doesn’t really matter when you’re supporting the people who do.

The brother at the wedding story, the op is the AH, its HIS brother, thats close family and the BIL should be there. If his fiancé has rude hurtful vocal homophobes those people should not be invited. The brother is gay if his husband comes or not. He is still gay. He is close family as is the BIL, crack the whip and enforce no bigotry at the wedding. Time to cut off certain people. For OP to be entertaining this, for it to be even a question shows OP is fine with being biased against his own brother and is starting to have the fiance’s family values.

  • @elleinvestigates

I feel like they’re leaving out some important things in the 2nd one. Why do they have to invite the fiancé’s parents? Are they putting up money? I think there’s stuff like that swirling around that’s being glossed over.
Like if they’re giving a lot of money for example, yeah, they can f right off, but that hugely changes the wedding! Yeah, the OP needs to double down on support for their brother. If these people can’t get it together, they can have a good night, byeeee!

The wedding story: the potential for a scene to happen if the homophobic family starts one, in on the homophobes. They would be responsible for ruining the wedding. Not the brother. They should be uninvited if they can't behave civilly for 1 day. For their family member (op's fiancee).

  • @cassyf1949
    @cassyf1949 8 місяців тому +1

Story 2: The fiance is 100% still homophobic and OP willingly marries into a family of bigots. He should have asked the fiance how she would feel about it, if the brother will ask that OP leaves her at home for every family events they celebrate because they feel unwell having someone from that background there. Wonder if she would still feel like exclusion is the right choice when she is the one being excluded.

  • @savannahshadrick7839

The second story really isn't that hard. They can choose to support homophobia and take part in being homophobic, or they can just warn her parents and say "this is my family and like we respect your beliefs you will respect their relationship" they don't have to agree with the relationship they just have to not cause a scene. If they can't agree to that then they shouldn't be invited, parents or not.

cause the in-laws in the other story stalked the gay brother AND his boyfriend...and if you dont cut someone off and stick to your values then.. but draw the line at a wedding invite?

Request: When we say no, accept the no. Baby won’t be named Isaac. MIL will not be in delivery room.
Boundary: if you do not respect our requests, we will not allow you to be in the baby’s life.
We can make all the requests we want of people, but ultimately don’t have control over how they behave. A true boundary is your response to people when they do not respect your requests.
This MIL needs some consequences for her lack of respect. Set the boundaries and follow through.

I don't like when people say bad behaviour and being rebelious is a tenager phase or expected behaviour. This sets to expect the worst or low from a tenager because they can't do better and set kids who actually needs opportunities to have no trust because they are young and teens so we should not expect them to be able to do something responsible.
Most my teen years as I needed money to get the things I wanted was about me showing I was to be trusted. I didn't do nothing to be descridited but because I was a teen and teens do dumb sh@ I was expected to behave the same.
The last story OP daughter needs therapy at least to address her issue with her mom and redirect her anger properly. It is also not healthy to be vaping. Is the same as smoking. Still has bad consequences for your health and is addictive.
Please don't talk low on an ongoing issue which kids are having because we are not giving the proper attention and importance.
