The Non-Canon Expert looks at how Darth Sidious was able to learn the identity of the Rebel pilot who destroyed the Death Star and that he was a "Skywalker," as well as recognize the connections that existed between the Rebel pilot and his apprentice Darth Vader, which would culminate in Darth Sidious revealing this knowledge to his apprentice in Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back.
This is a Legends story for Darth Vader, Darth Sidious, and the events following Episode 4: A New Hope with information found within the Legends comic "Star Wars: Vader's Quest" and the Legends novel "Star Wars: Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader." I hope that you enjoy it!

It wasn't the Emperor's actual plan to turn Luke really, he very seriously wanted to get rid of him: “He could destroy us. The son of Skywalker must not become a Jedi.” This is the first thing he says to Vader about Luke and this just a missing point most of the time, it was VADER/Anakin who suggested it to the Emperor and only because he knew the alternative was Luke being killed, this is very explicit in the ESB.

I’ve read the comics and they are pretty good.
Even if you just watch the movies, Vader knew Luke’s identity before Palpatine told him. When the probe droid broadcasted the location of the rebel base in the Hoth system, Vader’s response was “The rebels are there, and Skywalker is with them.” So many people seem to forget that.
Just recently finished, and can agree, it's really good.
Same for the River of Chaos comics, which has some similar themes.
The whole game of the Sith is double speak, half-truths, and wordplay.

Not gonna lie, Palpatine actually letting Mala Mala be is oddly heartwarming. Even moreso since he also offered her a new body and maybe even new droid friends without a hint of bitterness.
And the best part: there's not even an offscreen evil catch on it... she actually survived to the beginnings of the Yuuzhan Vong War, so to talk about how Chewbacca helped her during her young days (as seen in the Chewbacca comics, set after his Sernpidal sacrifice).
Palpatine is like meh, I highly doubt its going to be a problem besides I have experiance having good relations with beings like thrawn and v'egre, besides skywalker is the bigger fish to catch anyway

Palps telling Vader that he knew about Luke was his way of saying that he knew Vader was planning something.
Kind of funny how Sidious let her go so easily. Seems he was capable of some minor forms of mercy.
George Lucas said that Luke was so strong in the force that he would become at least twice as powerful as Vader. That’s why the emperor feared that Luke would one day destroy both of them.
This is one of many reasons why I prefer legends Luke over Disney’s Luke.
Also doesn’t help Disney’s luke is a massive hypocrite n complete opposite

Legends forever
Imagine, when Luke turned himself in to Vader, he asked about his mother. What would his father say?
George Lucas was having one of his writers blocks and he didn't want to think on so much of a back story.
"Your mother..."
"She is dead, by my hand. I was a fool then. I did not control my emotions, they controlled me."
Luke would probably then sense Vader's regret and self-loathing and take as a sign of the good that still lived in Anakin.
Luke's song "Me So Horny" is pretty good. It has catchy Lyrics and is easy to Dance to. Sure it is a little dated but it is still a fun tune.

That thumbnail makes it look like the artist was trying to find the limit to how many wrinkles you can draw on a man.

I liked how they upped the creep factor on palpatine in this one.
I was so early that Palpatine wasn’t also Darth Sidious, nor a Sith.
Was the destroyer of the first death star even a secret?! I recall a few hundred people at the medal ceremony, also pretty sure the rebellion would have used this victory and its heros as call for others to join the fight against the empire. I believe the empire finding out who this person was didnt need much more that general gossip to filter through to them.

Another factor would have been from the Timothy Zhang novel ALLEGIANCE, wherein Mara jade discovered lord Vader running a search program in the emperors library for the name Luke skywalker, it is conceivable that either Mara could have mentioned it, or the emperor also discovered the program, but those are simply other elements and pieces of a greater puzzle

The Rise of Darth Vader explanation makes no sense. Vader is searching for Luke at the very beginning of ESB and when the probe droid finds the generator on Hoth, Vader says "The Rebels are there, I'm sure Skywalkers with them."

OT Saga was fun to watch and it is a modern myth. But as a military story the logic is out the window.
Yoda " Luke I F*ed Up bad, Vader is your father and your mother die cause he choke her out when she was pregnant with you and your twin sister. I faced the Emperor and had my azz handed to me. You are not ready to to talk to him let alone able to fight him. Do not go and try to save your friends, it is a trap.
Year later...
Yoda " Your dad just beat the zhit out of you and cut your right hand off, and you think you now can talk some sense into him ? Boy, how many times did you get hit in your head ?
This actually highlights two major issues.
ISSUE 1 - Darth Sidious's huge post Order 66 lies ALL prefaced with the following:
" Everything is as I have foreseen it. "
Sidious did NOT see or organise Luke Skywalker's attack on the Death Star.
Therefore, Sidious was fallible.
This brings us . .
ISSUE 2
Darth Vader, finally, after 22 years, realises his Master whom he hates, is fallible and NOT all-knowing & seeing.
The Emperor no doubt wants to taunt Vader.
I prefer the original Lord Sidious in Episode V - the Empire Strikes Back with those chimpanzee eyes saying:
The son of Skywalker must NOT become a Jedi.
Those words realistically must have hit Vader like Force Lightning.
Those words again,
' How can this be ? '.
How can this be? "asks a stunned Vader.
Darth Vader, allegedly through Boba Fett, allegedly knew the name Luke Skywalker, BUT thought an imposter was using it.
Sidious's Stupid Mistake: -
Sidious's efforts to ignite conflict within Vader again works . . .
BUT . . . NOT in the way it should.

II. How did the infallible 'all-knowing'
Sith Lord, miss this ?
Iii. WHY did the stirring in the Force
come after the destruction of the

AND . . .
IV. Who really trained Luke Skywalker ?
NOTE - Sidious knows it could NOT
be Obi-Wan alone.
Has Yoda, in fact, trained Luke Skywalker?
If so, then their enemy in Luke Skywalker would be formidable!
Hence the words, 'he can destroy us' . '
Darth Sidious fears Yoda after all these years!
Folly - he knows realises that he should have hunted down and slain that 1 foot high Jedi Master.
2023 Comics
Someone recently ( February 2023) mentioned that in a new set of comics, Yoda's Force Ghost talks to Sidious.
All the Jedi Master says, whilst The Emperor sits in his brand new throne room on the second Death Star, is this:
" Win . . . You will NOT ! "
I love 💖 Star Wars Comic when Darth Vader contacted his master Darth Sidious & told Luke Skywalker Was son of Anakin Skywalker & turn him to the Dark side of the Force or Luke will dead if he don't join the Dark side along side with his father Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker & his master Darth Sidious/Emperor Palpatine l know l seen that scene in Episode V & l Already Know Luke Skywalker destroyed the Death Star in Ep IV: A New Hope that scene as well. .

it makes no sense unless there was a DNA test to prove that he was the son but then again we're talking about fiction about space wizards. and Howard boba Fett knew that Luke Skywalker was Darth Vader's son like I said without any hard evidence of a DNA test not possible to prove it. the only two people who had that knowledge was master Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi 😎

Palpatine lied to Vader saying that Vader killed her. Yet he didn’t hesitate to tell him about Luke, that means he knows that Vader knew and was already planning to replace Vader. He also knew the hold he had on Vader which helped him tell about Luke without too much fear
And it could also be his way of letting Vader know that he knew what Vader was planning

It didn't help that nobody thought to give Luke a different surname. Luke Lars would have made sense as Owen and Beru were his adoptive parents. Obi-Wan like an idiot took Luke Skywalker to the homeworld of Anakin SkywLker and allowed him to keep the name Skywalker.

Sun Wu-Entai 90 it's been described as a matter of interpretation..eg Star Wars Theory says that Lucas may have implied that way edited ROTS when Padme was fading same time as Vader had helmet placed over him.. it does seem likely and kind of sick thing Palpatine would do.. is possible

I'm surprised that neither of them, Vader or his master were able to sense such a powerful force user considering Snoke was able to sense Rey, hell Snoke sensed Kylo's force potential when Leia was still pregnant with him. Guess that's just SW for ya
