    My plan for 2023 is to use up what I have before I buy more paper. More people are reaching retirement age because more people were born in the year 1957 than any year before or since, and many are downsizing. Smaller craft rooms mean less storage space and fewer supplies. That’s my prediction 😅 Thanks for your stash-busting videos! ❤

    • @CreatedByGwen
      @CreatedByGwen  6 місяців тому +1

      Yep... I'm a big fan of using what you have and I LOVE your prediction and totally agree. Less is the new more and I can certainly jump on board with that! ❤️ Thanks so much for hanging out with me today Lisa and sharing your thoughts.

      I totally agree! We have recently retired and are downsizing everything. Smaller house means a smaller craft space unfortunately but that’s ok. I am trying to use up what I have and now I really look at something before I buy it to make sure I can use it in several different ways.

      I have seen a more simplified approach to memory keeping-not necessarily by younger scrappers-through creative journaling using products such as travelers notebooks, journals, stop the blur by Heidi Swapp, Ali Edwards story kits, etc.

    • @CreatedByGwen
      @CreatedByGwen  6 місяців тому +1

      I bet you will love your new simplified space@@marciakujawa1525 even if it is a bit smaller. It will be filled with only the things you love.

      Yes, Travellers Journals, I forgot about those... they are a great option.@@SandraE_ I think they kind of fit into the 'mini album' theme I mentioned... they are essentially little books of memories. They are fun too!

    Great predictions. I hope you're right with the mini collections! I definitely think that punches and dies are making a comeback! I love mine and have been more selective about my buying and have added a die set for a splurge instead of a new collection so that i can get more use out of it and hopefully use up more of my stash!

    Hi Gwen. I can’t believe it’s time for 2024 predictions! This year flew by, and it doesn’t seem so long ago when you were predicting 2023. I love peach and forest green, so I’m excited to see the colors that they use with it. I also love black, so bring it on! I’m crossing my fingers for more mini collections, too. Punches and dies add so much dimension to layouts without the bulk, so that makes me happy. Thank you for sharing your predictions. It’ll be fun to see how many come to fruition. 😊

      I know right!! 2024 wizzed by! I'm nervous about the black BUT I knew so many would be very pleased to see this. I'm most excited about those black and metallic combos, I've already seen a few cards like that and they are STUNNING! I've give it a go, I'll find a way to make the black still feel like me... maybe I'll just add tiny tiny pops of it 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for hanging out with me today xo

    For me I use more black in an album that has a theme. Like an a fancy dress party. We had several graduation parties that were black and pink, black and gold over the years. They always look classic. I find more non-crafters responsed well to them. I'm working on an anniversary album with dark navy, silver and bits of white. It creates a bold contrast.

    • @CreatedByGwen

      Hey Jennifer 🌸 I love black on themed albums too, I've been keeping an eye on the graduation ones as I will need to make one soon, they are always stunning. Hi Gwen. I enjoyed your predictions video last year and I'm happy you did another one! I predict that we will see more retro 60's/70's style groovy lettering in collections. I make and sell t shirts and I've been seeing retro lettering everywhere on designs. I'm not going to be on an official spending freeze but I'm planning to continue purchasing thoughtfully with a focus on using up remainders of collections as well as untouched collections in my stash. Earlier this year I challenged myself to use up remainders and it was so satisfying to create pages from scraps and bits leftover from collections I loved. Thank you for your videos, I have truly enjoyed them this year and I wish for you continued creative success in the new year 🧡

Interesting that you've seen the groovy letting coming up, I haven't noticed that but I'll keep an eye out for it now. Good on you for spending more thoughtfully, it's the way to go for sure! It will be interesting to see what 2024 brings. I am in love with the Patone Colour for 2024. I love any pretty colour bright or pastel, I just happy to have something pretty to scrapbook with. I often admire the things I see made with Altenew and PinkFresh stamp and die sets but they are a bit out of my budget. Mini albums are very popular. I think these definitely will stay a popular trend. They make great gifts to. I don’t really worry about trends. I just create in my own way. I love using my cutting dies and I love making paper bows Lots of my projects feature bows. I am always trying to find ways to add them to my layouts and cards.
    Thank you for your video. I enjoyed hearing your predictions for 2024. I am very excited to see what you are going to create in 2024.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😃

      You just can't go wrong with a pretty colour right! I love it too, so soft and lovely. The Altenew stamp and dies are a bit pricy, I think the Pink Fresh ones are a little better, the conversion to Aussie dollars is not good 😱 The ones I've bought are all pretty general ones, I tried to choose ones that could be used for a lot of different cards to help make them feel like better value. I'm so glad you agree with me on the bows... they really are the cutest things ever to add to a project! I have lots planned for 2024, it's going to be a fun year! Wishing you a wonderful Christmas Maree, I hope you have a lovely restful time with your lovely family and I hope those twins are spoilt!! xox Thanks so much for your support this year, it really does mean the world. 🥰

    Hi Gwen! I was very interested to see your predictions. I agreed with quite a few. Here's what I thought : Colours: Yes the peaches and apricot, golden summer tones are going to continue a la the altenew ink set from this year. There will also be black (agree) but alongside it, very dark shades of green, magenta, blue, I also think in card making you're going to see a trend for layered shades of white and off white and extremely light pastel tints. Metallic black, gold, copper, maybe more silver too. Metallic ephemera like sequins, as well as black and white ones.
    Mixed media supplies : agree, and people will be looking for budget items.
    Mini albums will be huge. Handmade Mini books are a trend in education as well and they are a way for young children to document their experiences at kindy or ECE. They are highly valued by families so i see it spreading fast over 24/5 and onwards as teachers look to less onerous methods of documentation and assessment, which are innovative and valued not only by families but which speak to the history of the institution and its embedded practices.
    People will be subscribing to kits which are modular like hipkit, citrus twist, spellbinders as a way to craft within a budget, also as you said, minimalism, stash busting, shopping your stash will be popular.
    Now..... DUN DUN DUN...... I think fruits are on the way out, and I won't be surprised if we see florals like grevilleas in the apricot/peach/golden shades. Also think we are not finished with humming birds, sunbirds and honey eaters. I'm wondering if some more up to trend dog stamp and die collections might turn up.
    Sadly I think we will be seeing less and less from Tim, but some distress and shabby techniques seem to be rearing their heads again and let's face it the man is a God already so his stuff is immortal. And that's my predictions for 2024!
    Oh and... Bea Valint is a yes from me, very much like Maggie Holmes who I love.

      Hey Mandy! 🌸 WOW, thanks so much for sharing your thoughts! I totally agree with dark green, I had forgotten about that and I've seen it a lot (even outside of paper craft) and it goes super well with the new peach we have. Glad you agree on the metallics, I'm here for those too. It will be interesting to see about the fruit... I know it was really popular a few years back but I've seen it a lot in a few new lines (Beau's for one) and another from Echo Park I think it was.... we will find out!! 🙂🙂🙂 We have been seeing less of Tim haven't we and lots more of Simon. All food for thought and SUPER interesting to me to hear your thoughts. I know many others will enjoy reading these as well so thanks for taking the time to not only watch the video but share your ideas here. 💗

    Very interesting video, Gwen. I usually don’t spend much thinking about trends so it was thought provoking. I love mini albums and have been doing more of them. Space is an issue for me as I consider the pace of 12 x 12 albums accumulating over time.
    I don’t think I have ever used a full collection and I don’t buy complete collections anymore. Last year, I limited myself to collection packs plus a couple of embellishments. I actually enjoyed looking through my stash to pair older products to match the new lines.
    Mixed media is something I appreciate but don’t like doing so papers that have the mixed media look without any work is more to my liking. I do love using dies and border punches. I have been incorporating more dies that I initially purchased for cards into scrapbooking layouts. You are right about the versatility of Pink Fresh Studio stamps and dies. I only have 1 or 2 Altenew products so I can’t speak for them.
    Wishing you and your family a wonderful Christmas. Usually, in eastern Canada, we can count on snow but Christmas is looking like it will be green/brown grass this year. Last year, we had terrible storms so it was white but dangerous to go anywhere. Until 2024!

    • @CreatedByGwen
      @CreatedByGwen  6 місяців тому

      Thank you Jeannine 🌸 I also worry about the space my 12 x 12 albums take up, that's why I like the idea of more mini albums. Glad you are finding a way that works for you to mix old with new supplies so you don't need to buy so much. I am moving away from getting FULL collections. I used to really like to get everything but now the collections are so big, that's just not an option for me. I have a few of the Altenew ones, I think the Pink Fresh are more economical but both are great! Wishing you and your family a wonderful Christmas, hopefully just enough snow to make it magical but still very practical for those travelling. Here it is expected to be hotter than ever, but we are all used to that! Thanks for your support this year and spending time creating with me xo

    These are interesting predictions, Gwen. I had gotten away from using black but did recently use it as a layer on a Christmas card and it really did make the other colors pop. I hope you are correct about fruit…I purchased several fruit stamps, dies, and stencil sets this year and have a bunch from years past. Fruit and leaves are my weakness. However, even if you’re not, I will use them anyway. My goal is to use what I have. One of your punch videos popped up several months ago which is why I subscribed to your channel. Hi Gwen. It's always thought provoking to try to predict what's ahead of us. I hadn't heard the 2024 Colour of the year. What a lovely shade. (Hmmm I guess I must be ahead of the trend by about 5 years as this is a very similar colour to what we painted our living room/dining room.) It’s funny that peach is the 2024 color of the year. In 1987, we built a house and had rooms full of peach carpet. (Also mauve and teal and gray). Peach is a pretty color but I don’t wear it. At first, I bought EVERYTHING! I wanted it all! But now, I have become more discerning. I choose carefully because I need quality products that will last. I also am NOT buying the lastest digital goodies or machines. I want to see if it becomes a permanant part of a crafter's arsenal.

      I think we all start out that way, wanting all of the things but not 100% sure what we will do with them. Black makes color pop. Not sure if light tints of peach or other soft muted tints are the best on a black background, though. I predict they might make them look washed out? I’ll have to test that prediction. Interesting combination decisions that the manufacturers are having us make! Metallics on black, though-those will look sleek and elegant.

I think it’s overwhelming and financially draining to have 3 or 4 die cut packs on top of stickers, puffy, and foam shapes and alpha sets and then you have paper pads of 2 sizes and single sheets! Goodness!! Unless you are 100% sure you know what to purchase, you try to get it all. Then it clutters up your craft space and drains your wallet! 😮

    On decluttering; let me share this:
    A year ago, I was practically "given" a large collection of paper from a retired scrapbooker.
    There were 7 boxes full that contained 12x12 paper. They were 3.5" thick. That's about a 2 ft. Stack of prints and solids!
    After donating nearly half to a thrift store, it was fun to play with the rest.
    But then I heard someone say, " If it's old, nobody wants it." And that's what I had!
    So, gradually building up my stash with new goods, I finally packed it all up and said, "GOODBYE!"
    Now I feel so great having less choices, and knowing that the colors and patterns are up to date!😅

    • @CreatedByGwen
      @CreatedByGwen  6 місяців тому +1

      Thank you so much for sharing this Karen, I find your story interesting for a couple of reasons. Having less has 100% made me a better crafter. I know myself and I do not need cardstock in every colour of the rainbow and in fact, IF I had that much all I would feel is overwhelm. The other thing I find interesting is that some people actually prefer the older supplies, there are some ladies I know that LOVE supplies from manufacturers that are no longer in business, they seek them out. So it's not everyone who just wants that new stuff, some do seek out older things, but agree, the majority of crafters are interested in what's new. With all that said, what it means for me is that I need to only let supplies into the studio that I know I will use in a relatively short time, the longer they sit around here the less appealing they are to me. Less is more that's for sure. I really do appreciate you taking the time to share this experience with us here 🌸

      I am one of those crafters who prefer some of the older lines of paper and products from companies that no longer exist! 2023 has been a year of no spend and I am only several weeks away from completing my goal !!! I don't feel as though I've missed much because I am a simple scrapbooker and these large collections are too much for me. I hope to see smaller collections in the coming year. Actually, Simple Stories has already shown a few. I still have all my punches from many years ago. I invested too much money to get rid of them. So I will try to use them more in 2024! @CreatedByGwen Gwen, thanks for your response!
      Let me finish with this:
      As a life-long creative, I collect tools. Anything that is not subject to fading or moisture damage stays! The primary reason I wanted to let go of that hoard of paper is because It was all about 20 years old, and we have a family next door with young people. One daughter in particular is a creative, and I would prefer to let her have paint and paper that have been replaced with higher quality supplies! I certainly do like vintage styling, and appreciate the value of older supplies...But my space is very limited!
