They say you can never go back. My parents passed away and the old homestead on the lake was sold. I don't have a back go to anymore. Appreciate what you have while you have it. Some day you may have children of your own. Same goes for them. They grow up so fast. Appreciate them while they last because soon they will be gone too.
Lasers are great boats to learn how to sail, slightly unforgiving but you learn a lot while sailing them, plus they are fast and fun. I know I had two of them amongst several other small sailboats, I liked the Lasers the best.
"This is what we learnt to sail on" :) You look so happy and at home there too. Wow, nearly 5,000 Subs, I joined you at less than 100. :) And recall writing to you - You post what you feel comfortable with posting and we'll all be happy, after you'd wondered if anyone was even interested in what you posted. Obviously the people like. Love your attitude Gillian, sweet smile too. Stay real, as you are, that's what attracts your followers. Interesting, real, genuine content. *thumbs up*. Cheers from NZ. M
I loved that video, reminds me of a time in my life when I spent summers sailing a Laser 1, then I upgraded to a Tanzer 22. Now I sail nothing, but I adventure with you.
That was a really fun video! Another slice of your life and we got to meet more of your family! I too grew up sailing small boats up in New England as a boy. Mostly El toros up to a lightning. Great fun and really taught me to sail! Heck, it's still fun!
Really enjoyed this - including the backstory of the building with dad ( have we met him yet ? ) any stills from the past you could show would be fun . . . . . .
Awesome video, brings back memories of learning how to sail down here in Florida, the school used Lasers and Catalina 14.7. I ended up purchasing a Laser 2 as my first personal sailboat, it was lots of fun but like everyone else, bigger is better, so through the years I purchased several boats, Compac 16, then a Hunter 22, then a Catalina 27, and then a Privilege 615 Catamaran, me and Julie sailed abroad and lived aboard her for 8 years, we sailed to the Bahamas quite often on her plus a few trips to Puerto Rico and ST. Croix. We used Key West, Florida as our home base. Just recently we made some huge changes, we sold the catamaran and ended up buying a condo in Key Largo, Florida. We didn't quit sailing we just downsized, our new boat is a 2020 Corsair 880 Sport Trimaran. Corsair are known for their insane speeds, we recently sailed from Key Largo to Key West, we sailed the 97.2 miles in 5.6 hours and averaged 14.7 to 17.2 knts. and on several occasions reached 21.5 knts. Even at those insane speeds the boat is very stable and easy to sail......
Thank you for sharing your incredible sailing story! It sounds like you have had so many adventures on so many different boats! What an amazing way to spend your time! Wow, that sounds like a huge change! Although it sounds like you are still going strong at sailing :D Wow, that's so fast! What a crazy experience that would be!
@@BlueMoonLife If you guys find yourself coming to the Florida Keys, please look us up, would love to meet both of you and take you sailing on the Corsair. Our friends Billie & and Sierra from the sailing channel Tulsa's Endless Summer showcased a Corsair pretty similar to ours on their channel for about 6 months, they did a good job showing the boats capabilities as they live aboard it for the 6 months....
Excellent! It is much better to learn how to sail in a small boat where every action you make has an almost immediate reaction. Tiller over and the boat turns, sails sheeted in and the boat moves, luff the sails and the boat slows and stops. Sailboats heel, rudders make them turn, sails make them move. Small size sails aren't scary like a luffing jib or main on a larger boat. I taught friends how to sail in my 10 ft dinghy even when we were cruising on my 40 ft cutter. Sort of like learning to drive a go-kart before a car makes it easier.
Wow. Zero to sailboat in 4.5 hours. LOL. That was another fantastic video. Not only are you so naturally beautiful (I think you could easily be modelling, and be successful) but very talented and knowledgable when it comes to sailing. And at your age to have all this knowledge already. I'm mid 50's and only at the start of my (hopefully long) sailing career. I love watching your videos, they are very "happy" and uplifting. Lots of great scenery, music, laughs and smiles. (Not to mention, the best part of the world, my favourite place, I get very distracted by the background. Hehe, ) You have a natural talent for this. Good worK!! I Look forward to each episode, and they brighten my day. Thank you. May you have a long and fulfilling sailing life. (and seriously, if you haven't gotten your portfolio into a modelling agency, you should! Don't believe me, take a poll , LOL.). Fair winds to both of you !
Thank you so much :D I'm so glad you enjoy the videos. Haha and yes, I totally get what you mean about being distracted about the background! Sometimes I find myself caught up in wanting to just show all of the nature shots! Thank you for this kind comment :D and good luck with your sailing adventures!!
Laser II is a fantastic boat. I had one for a few years. They are built tough! Do you have a spinnaker for it? Mine had a spinnaker chute built into the deck.
I learned on my dad’s enterprise. He developed his love of the water while serving in the Canadian Navy in WW2
I always wanted to live in a small coastal village, perfect

Well said Mark, we will remember that :)
I learned on a Sunfish. Lots of fun. Now I sail a 19' O'Day Mariner with my kids. The next step: I'd love to add a Catalina 30 to the fleet.
Kool.
Very nice! Small boats teach so well.
I have a small sailboat like that and I just love it
They're just so much fun!
I learned to sail on a Penguin - local to the Chesapeake bay and surrounding rivers / waterways - fun times🙂

Yes, lasers are definitely one of my favourites as well!

I'm so glad you enjoyed it :D They really are a blast to sail! Although I've had some good fun on a Tanzer 22 as well :D
beautiful video - nothing better than dinghy sailing
just read an article in the news today. Ottawa fellow and 3x Olympian + Designer of the Laser Sailboat recently passed away @ 92 yo
I recently heard that too... sad to hear, but he left quite a legacy behind!
That was a really fun video! Another slice of your life and we got to meet more of your family! I too grew up sailing small boats up in New England as a boy. Mostly El toros up to a lightning. Great fun and really taught me to sail! Heck, it's still fun!
Thanks Robert! Wow, that sounds amazing :D There is something special about sailing little boats... and you're right, it never gets old!
Great video! looks like great fun!
Thank you! It was :)
Lovely waters you have to sail in. 🙂

I'm so glad you enjoyed it :D
🇨🇦 well timed video as the designer of the LASER passed away a few weeks ago ....
Oh wow, I think I may have seen that in passing, but didn't put two and two together. Sad news... but he certainly lives on through his sailboats :)

Thank you! Haha yes it is so much more manageable learning on something small and working up to the bigger boats :D
Laser sailboats are fast... But... Not as laser beams... ⛵

Great video seeing you have fun with family, Must have sucked for you and your siblings to grow up on waters edge ? ✌️💜🎸

We recently got a spinnaker and would love to get it rigged up! But right now it's not rigged for one :D
❤️❤️❤️
:-)
I liked my Blue Jay better.
Doesn't look like fun, I'll stick to my outboard engine.
Haha fair enough!
