- Merida has updated its Silex gravel bike first launched in 2018 with a host of changes, but do they make it a better bike and who is it actually aimed at? I took it for a first ride around my local trails to see what it’s all about.

Another great review, David. Your reviews are top notch!
Thank you kindly!
The Scultura Endurance GR is the gravel race bike from Merida. This is aimed more at long-distance or multi-day rides, with its more MTB'ish geometry.
I have this bike on order because of the advanture style gravelbike. I like ike packing and see the bennefit of bigger brakediscs. Wonderfull quick review, you cleraly point out quirks of this bike witch is a positive! In the end that made me decide to go for this bike (looks good too in my opinion)
One of the first things I did was to put 180 front and 160 rear on my bike. Came in useful a couple of times, with a couple of times when I clearly wished I had even more. Then again, I took the bike on multiple rides involving MTB trails at least part of the way. Took it out to MTB trails specifically as well, to se how it would fair.
That being said, I for one love the higher sterrer tube and uprighter sitting position of old Silex. They should have slackened that headtube as they did, but kept it long.
Ramblers afe for me THE TIRE to have if tou just want to go wherever.
Another enjoyable review David. Aesthetically, this new frame is much better IMHO and I think the new models will be much more popular. I look forward to seeing it in the flesh.
I am one of those people who like to push the boundaries of drop bar bikes on mountain bike trails. It's fun.
I love that bike. Thanks
Thanks for your great reviews. I would be very interested if you were able to compare riding Merida Silex 2024 carbon vs alloy, and/or Silex 2024 vs BMC URS.
@davidarthur great video. Are you going to make a video on the best 2024 gravel bikes you tried ?
Thanks and yes that's on the list for December :)
I guess if you're loaded up with 50lbs of gear for bikepacking, extra braking power and cooling would be a bonus.
I like this design but is there anything stopping water tracking down that top cap routing and trashing both headset bearings in short order in 'normal' UK conditions?
Sharp bike! Your a lucky boy 👦
How do you think thix compares to the canyon grizl with the rudy and the dropper?
Can this hold up to the grizl?
Beautiful, excellent weight for the price,ad 300grams for pedals and it's still well under 10kg.💯👌🏻🚴♀️
Its following the pattern of a Stigmata. That bike is proven in racing. Just maybe the European model of a race bike isn't actually required or suited to the type of racing that is more reflective of US races.
You are not making sense, this Merida would be suited for most parts of the world.
@@reinholdachleitner2069 You're failing at reading. I said the exact thing. Its using the same geo as the Santa Cruz Stigmata, which is winning gravel races.
Hi David, how the size fix?? I know you are 181 and Size Medium is longer shorter?? compare to new scultura how you feel the size?? thanks
What is the tyre clearance with 650b wheels? Can you go monstercross and put on 2.1 inch tyres?
I want Mohoric's race bike.
Cool bike. Basically an all road bike, I'd say 40mm clearance is enough. 160mm brakes would be my pick
Great video! Are you also going to do a review of the Merida Scultura Endurance Gr 5000?
Eventually 👍
@@davidarthur Thanks, Ill keep a lookout for it
Is Merida Silex 4000 better than TREK CHECKPOINT ALR 4 ? Trek looks better, but Silex seems to be a better deal?
How it compares to Topstone? Is Kingpin really more comfortable? Which would you buy? Im switching from very old MTB, my hardest terrain will be woodsie, rather light trails.
i'm exactly in between the Topstone and the Silex; the Topstone seems a lot more comfortable, but the Silex is the more beautiful bike :)
Merida is a Chinese frame
Looks to me, that this frame was too big?. Saddle pushed fully forward
Why not remove the spacers to lower the front, if its too high?
Please do a comparison with the willier Adler!!
That’s a very good idea 👍
Just from the specs i think this one is more appealing due to the possibility of fitting a dropper and suspension fork. I was kind of irritated as you said in the adler video, that the silex is less comfortable because the silex has a carbon seat post and the adler one out of alluminium
@@alexschiefer7359 You could fit a fork and dropper to the Adlar as well. The bigger tyres on the Adlar are a bonus and definitely contribute to the comfort over the Silex
Ayo how is that bottle attached to the cage?? That looks slick as hell
Fidlock base mount for the Carbon frames
I don't really get why they didn't go for a bigger tyre clearance to be honest. Is it because at Merida they think a 45+ clearance is just a trend and it doesn't make any sense for a gravel bike? Do they presume the whole gravel market will go back to smaller tyre clearance in the near future?
New Silex geomerty is more sporty, not for everyone. If you want chill\endurance\bikepacking geometry - old Silex geometry is better. I personaly would buy Scultura Endurance GR thou.
Bike geometry for normal people. At last !
When we can see the full review?
Soon, just working on the edit should be this or next week

It might have a tall stack, but his stem was slammed and long.
So this new category shall be called "downhill gravel bike"!
Wow, I might be first
Your mother will be proud.
If you never wished for 180 rotors, your clearly never ridden some of the descents I've done. Very steep, very chuncky, nothing to keep you from going off the side of a mountain if you get it wrong,...
You’re hard mate
2nd
Just get a thorough bred hardtail!
and ride it on the road??
It looks better than the old bike, but still a nothing bike in my eyes. Not appealing at all.
it looks weird hm
That's absolutely not the bike Mohoric used 😂
Why isn't it? I just looked and the frame looks the same except for the paint job. Or do you mean not that specific bike?
Maybe it's just the slammed stem 😅
No Dura Ace or 45mm carbon wheels insight.🤣
It is. The geometry is just way out of wack. I'm 189 cm and I usually ride a 58cm frame. Large or XL depending on the brand. When I look at the Geo of this bike, the medium is the one that would suit me the most looking at the reach and stack numbers. Even the wheelbase is extremely long at that size. If i took my usual Large it would be way to high and super long with a tiny stem. I could even fit on a small, looking at the stack and reach now.
think it is, but he used a tiny frame and all kinds of speed trickery to turn it into an acceptable race bike.
Great Video, Does it bring the UDH or is it still a normal dropout?
Nonsense I've got 45c wtb Raddler on my OG silex
