For my gkids I learned a long time some tricks, for the chaulk sharpen w/a pencil sharpener I paid $3-4 for 1 at walmart, the kind that sharpens kindergarden pencils(I call them that not sure it's the "proper" name) the pencils that are bigger around than regular pencils. Then when I want to write something that doesnt wipe off as easy (but still will wripe off) I put a little water in a lid & dip the tip of chaulk to dampen the tip.
After watching your previous video on uses for Chalkboard paint I have made a few projects for our home, and have found similar issues with the chalk pens - they're great for anything you want permanence on but not so good if you want to erase what you have written. For example, I made a clipboard similar to yours for our kitchen grocery list, and have used the pens for the top title that I dont want to rub off every week, and the normal chalk for the grocery items that change each week. I have also found that if you write on the board when its slightly damp (just-wiped), its easier to write more finely, and the chalk is more consistently "white". Love your videos!
Jacqui Wright Your projects sound fun! I definitely agree with you and I will have to try out the writing with chalk when it's still damp, thanks for the tip!
As long as you have properly applied the chalkboard paint, you can use a mild cleaner to erase the pens from the board.409 and windex are commonly recommended. Pure water causes the "ink" to reconstitute and smear and leave shadows. Using a mild cleaner lifts it away from the board, allowing it to wipe clean.
On chaulkboard or whiteboard use an alcohol wipe & dry w/paper towel or regular alcohol. It works for any chaulk, dry erase & regular markers. On my chaulkboard when I clean weekly (like we did in school) I use 50/50 alcohol & water
I have a nice Magic Mentalism Trick that had the lone drawback of chalk messages being unclear or rubbing off halfway through the presentation. Thanks to your video, I think the solution is simply sharpening the traditional cheapy flat head chalks. I suspected this but good to hear from someone else prior to trying. Some chalk pens and even chalk holders can cost an upward of $7 so I am not really trying to try a whole lot of things that are expensive for no reason.

Awesome tutorial. Do you have one on how to lay out your design a head of time and then go over it w one of the tools? I have seen computer packages and how to do that but I want the real thing. But I also want to be able to have everything fit nicely on the board with angles and flourishes.
One more question, I have charcoal sticks which are a square shape, can these be used? They are in color and that would be neat to do a holiday chalk script. What site do you get your font ideas from?
Hello, I watched over again to hear where you purchased the chalk pencil, but didn't hear it? (Third example). If you could please advise, that'd be great. Thank you!
what utter rubbish. I write for a living why would you round off a chalk tip? Chisel edges give you lots of depth to fonts. Please don't tell people you know anything about this trade. you obviously don't.

U can also put a little water in a lid & dampen the tip to add items as they come to u.
