    I know this is the time of year everyone else is posting their top reads of the year, but turns out that finding time to record and edit videos is pretty tough when the kids are home for the holidays, so I've been running a little late! :) What are you reading right now?

      Nice video. Take the time you need and don't worry about it. Family is always the most important. And to answer the question, I'm reading The Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin right now and I'm enjoying it. Happy New Year everyone 🍾

      @@artomino78 Thank you! I've heard so much about The Three Body Problem. I've got to get around to reading it. Maybe in 2024...

    In a past life when I was a high school English teacher/college professor I read the young person's version of HTRLIAP. I thought it was scaled down really well. I'd highly recommend it to any college prep student. I need to read more Murakami. I'm going to tackle 1Q84 in January. I bought Fry's Mythos because I taught world myth for 20 years and love Fry so wanted to read his "versions" of the myths I already know but haven't picked it up yet. I would imagine that if you had no intro to Greek myth you'd enjoy Fry more than say a classic set of interpretations like Hamilton's. I used to teach a small unit on words we get from Greek mythology but I used Aismov's Words From Myths as my basis for that unit. People are always surprised to learn where some of these everyday words come from.

      As always, thanks for watching and commenting! You've always got great stuff to share. If I may, if you're not already a big Murakami fan, I'm not sure I'd start with 1Q84. It suffers from some of the same issues as Killing Commendatore, but the story is actually weaker in my humble opinion. 1Q84 is actually probably my least favourite Murakami novel. I'd probably recommend Norwegian Wood or The Wind Up Bird Chronicles to most people. Just a thought...

    Abercrombie needs to move higher on my priority list. I have at least 2 of his trilogies but haven't started either yet. The classic lament "so many books, so little time" may as well be tattooed on my forehead.

    • @ADudeWhoReads
      @ADudeWhoReads  11 місяців тому

      Hah. Truth! For Abercrombie, not sure which trilogies you have, but just be aware that aside from The Shattered Sea trilogy (which is set in a different world, and which some people think of as YA), reading order matters quite a bit for Abercrombie's books and they should probably be read in order of publication. But frankly, given how awesome the original First Law trilogy is, that really shouldn't be an issue. ;)

      @@ADudeWhoReads I believe in reading in publication order, even when there's a prequel (which inevitably causes people to say "you could technically read this one first"). I'd rather not. Narnia was re-released in chrono order rather than original pub order and I was like, eeew, no. Why??

    • @ADudeWhoReads
      @ADudeWhoReads  11 місяців тому

      @@OhioEddieBlack I completely agree! I actually made the mistake of reading Narnia in chronological order as an adult... Sometimes I wonder if it didn't negatively influence my perception of the series (I think I only read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe as a kid, and even that I don't rembmer so well, so I don't have nostalgia to fall back on).

    Happy New Year Adam! Wish me luck, I have no idea why The Road led to The Argonautica that led to The Swerve in December-but somehow I picked up Dubliners and taking another stab at Joyce tonight! Stay awesome! Mike

      Mike, great to hear from you! Believe it or not, I was just about to reach out about buddy-reading the Aeneid like we discussed (better late than never!), but if you're knee-deep in Joyce, you may have your hands full for a while :) Happy New Year, dude.

    DHG might not make many top 3 but Memories of Ice often does.
    Am finishing up a book on the Albigensian Crusade so will be picking up Song of Arbonne by GGK.
    Currently rereading some Elric. Moorcock's writing is incredibly sparse by modern standards but you can see hi influence on modern authors.

    How did you learn to flash the picture of the book on the screen? Did you have to pay extra within your editing software to do that? I think you were the one who encouraged me to go ahead and start my channel. I finally did. Thank you.

    • @ADudeWhoReads

      So happy you started your own channel! It's a wonderful way to share a passion with the world, and I've loved my journey. As for the picture of the book, it's a basic function of any editing software, including free ones like iMovie. Basically you just add the image of the book "on top" of your main timeline (as if you were adding b-roll), and then re-size and position the image where you want it. If you tell me which software you're using I can give you some more detailed instructions. Thanks for watching and commenting!
