My friend Dyana somehow agreed to tackling this adventure together. We packed our bags, weighed them, and nervously hit the trail. The first day is filled with Dyana and I getting used to being back on the trail. If you are new here, I thru-hiked the Pacific Crest Trail in 2018 and Dyana thru-hiked the Pacific Northwest Trail in 2019. So, this isn't our first rodeo, but that doesn't mean this was a breeze for us. All in all, we both shared our thoughts with how it feels to be back on a dirt trail, which temporarily served as our home.

I followed you on your PCT hike and completely enjoyed it. Now I am literally following you on the TRT. My three friends from out of state and I are hiking clockwise. We’re 57, 73, 73, and 79 so we’re a little older than the two of you. We all finished this last Wednesday and spent yesterday in South Lake where I live. Saw the lake only once when it was a gorgeous blue. So much smoke.
Thankfully there wasn't smoke when we hiked, but now it's terrible! I am sorry you only got to see the lake once. :(

Yes it was! I just did a small section on the AT. 25 miles in three days. I love being out on trail and losing track of time and “what day is it anyways!?!” Thank you for your fun videos. I love hearing your shoes (or even mine for that matter) hit the dirt. It’s kind of hypnotic.

Not unusual to be exhausted right out the trailhead; those pre-launch hours and night before can be hilarious and stressful. Rafts of humanity all tied together floating down the apocalypse :) NUNNs are the thing for electrolytes. Hanging food really only works with designated sites with hanging poles. So good to see you out there with a good friend.

I floated down the Truckee last week, just me and my daughter in a raft, and we tried to keep 20 ft of distance between us and other floaters. Thought of you, though, because I think it was right around your day 1 or 2 :)
Awesome video. Looking forward to more of the trip. Did the 40 mile stretch form desolation wilderness to Tahoe city. Watch out for rattlers on the trail. Almost stepped on one buy richardson lake. Have a safe and awesome adventure.

Question, probably a silly one, but why did you pack you BV empty? And what do you have your food in inside your pack?
My food is in a "food bag" in my pack. Having the bear canister empty on top of my pack feels better to carry. Then at night I put everything smellable into the bear can. :)
TRT seems to be a very nice trail.
So, you'll probably reach the PCT in the second episode. I'm exciting to see you reuniting with the PCT, SOBO this time ;-)
