It's even said later on that they had begun to cling onto the fame from being the Phantom Thieves and they had started to go after the bigger targets more. As well as the blackmail, they targeted Kaneshiro to become famous from beating a target that the police overlooked - they started to lose sight of what their initial goal was, and became the exact thing they hated. Ryuji acknowledged that he was an idiot, and Morgana and Yusuke admitted that it was due to the team's sudden fame obsession that they targeted Okumura and became criminals. He was a lot quieter after too

To be fair to Ryuji, I think the reason he has a hard time keeping a lid on the whole thing is just... well, it's probable that this is the first thing he's done since the whole incident with Kamoshida that got the track team canned (and his leg broken). So he gets really into it and, as a result, that passion slips out like... well, you can see for yourself how that screws him up.

I have to say Shen is wrong about this one. Ryuji is the #1 reason it was happening. His incautious behavior set everyone else up for what followed. Ann ear flicked him just moments before because he was being super loud about something he should be quiet about. His loudness is likely what drew Makoto in so she could even catch Ann. They might have noticed Makoto prowling closer if they weren't so busy with Ryuji screaming secret info at the top of his lungs.
I still find it hilarious that, MC didn't have his phone on speaker and yet Makoto could still hear Ryuji. What the hell? Is his voice that loud or does he have a megaphone 24/7?
There are 2 types of people: People who know Makoto is being pressured to do this, and dont complain. People who know that Makoto is being pressured and complain like how Ann first thought of Makoto.

Honestly, I shouldn't have to think we should take responsibility for the Ryuji recording. Holding meetings in the public walkway and just carelessly talk about our matters through group chat is completely the fault of everyone in the team, MC included. But this? This is all on Ryuji. The fact that he couldn't bring himself to keep his Akechi hate boner down and just decided to shout out our secret during school hours, the fault was his. True, Ann shouldn't have spoken either, but Ryuji was the one who brought up the discussion in the first place.
I mostly agree with that. While everyone takes a part of the blame for this, Ryuji should take most of it. He's constantly blurting stuff out loudly that could and DID get them caught. The others screwed up in smaller ways, but really obvious if you think about it. The fact that the people that are directly involved in these bizarre events seem to magically start hanging out with each other after they're resolved and the fact that these people directly related to said events are seen gathering suspiciously in public areas constantly. I love my boy Ryuji, but he's the worst at things like this.

After this little incident, I benched Ryuji for a while; Yusuke took his spot on the Combat team for a while. Call it a probation of sorts. Anyone else do that? Spoilers: The Phantom Thieves were just lucky at this point that ONLY Makoto caught them(with Ryuji’s mountain-sized mouth) and that she actually gave them a chance to prove their justice instead of simply turning in the recording as soon as she got it. If she had just turned it in, the Thieves wouldn’t have even known they were screwed until the police showed up with handcuffs.

Well it’s not so much that Ryuji is useless, rather as a victim of abuse he should know how calling someone that can hurt. Here’s the thing Morgana is critical of Ryuji at times but to areas Ryuji knows he needs to improve on like this. Whenever he starts feeling down Morgana NEVER takes a shot at him and is actually encouraging. Hell with this scene alone he has perfect ammo for Ryuji but he doesn’t souly blame Ryuji for this screw up.

I have to say Shen is wrong about this one. Ryuji is the #1 reason it was happening. His incautious behavior set everyone else up for what followed. Ann ear flicked him just moments before because he was being super loud about something he should be quiet about. His loudness is likely what drew Makoto in so she could even catch Ann. They might have noticed Makoto prowling closer if they weren't so busy with Ryuji screaming secret info at the top of his lungs.
I still find it hilarious that, MC didn't have his phone on speaker and yet Makoto could still hear Ryuji. What the hell? Is his voice that loud or does he have a megaphone 24/7?

Honestly, I shouldn't have to think we should take responsibility for the Ryuji recording. Holding meetings in the public walkway and just carelessly talk about our matters through group chat is completely the fault of everyone in the team, MC included. But this? This is all on Ryuji. The fact that he couldn't bring himself to keep his Akechi hate boner down and just decided to shout out our secret during school hours, the fault was his. True, Ann shouldn't have spoken either, but Ryuji was the one who brought up the discussion in the first place.
I mostly agree with that. While everyone takes a part of the blame for this, Ryuji should take most of it. He's constantly blurting stuff out loudly that could and DID get them caught. The others screwed up in smaller ways, but really obvious if you think about it. The fact that the people that are directly involved in these bizarre events seem to magically start hanging out with each other after they're resolved and the fact that these people directly related to said events are seen gathering suspiciously in public areas constantly. I love my boy Ryuji, but he's the worst at things like this.
@@Ayoken007 I see what you mean. Also when it comes to the Morgana and Ryuji bickering, it's like most of the blame I have for those moments are for the writers themselves instead of the characters. It's like I can *see* what they are going for in their relationship, but it's really weak and it just comes across as annoying from both sides. I mainly fault the creators for an unbalanced portrayal >_>;

After this little incident, I benched Ryuji for a while; Yusuke took his spot on the Combat team for a while. Call it a probation of sorts. Anyone else do that?

The Phantom Thieves were just lucky at this point that ONLY Makoto caught them(with Ryuji’s mountain-sized mouth) and that she actually gave them a chance to prove their justice instead of simply turning in the recording as soon as she got it. If she had just turned it in, the Thieves wouldn’t have even known they were screwed until the police showed up with handcuffs.
I didn't. Ryuji's literally the strongest party member, never benched him through any playthrough.
To be fair, I only benched him for a little while... however long it took for 1 fight to go less than well, then it was back to normal.

Well it’s not so much that Ryuji is useless, rather as a victim of abuse he should know how calling someone that can hurt. Here’s the thing Morgana is critical of Ryuji at times but to areas Ryuji knows he needs to improve on like this. Whenever he starts feeling down Morgana NEVER takes a shot at him and is actually encouraging. Hell with this scene alone he has perfect ammo for Ryuji but he doesn’t souly blame Ryuji for this screw up.
