Oh, and you missed one opening. Persona 5 Tactica. It's the most recent side game, another chibi, changed into a tactic game with its own story and two new allies.
Persona game info: Persona 1 and the two Persona 2 games (Innocent Sin and its sequel Eternal Punishment) I haven't played so I don't know a lot (apparently P2 is about the destructiveness of rumors? And the girl with chest hearts becomes the protagonist in Eternal Punishment?) but both of them are very Shin Megami Tensei-esc as the Persona series was still carving out its own identity when they were made, and virtually everyone I've met who's played them swears by the two Persona 2 games being some of the best stories in the series. I believe they both were originally on the PS1 though there are remakes on the Portable. Kinda hoping they'll be remade again sometime shortly after P3 Reload sells well though before I play them myself. Also some of the changed 'who you can befriend/date as a result of being a girl' options were extremely popular (and one very specific one could prevent the death of a fan favorite character) so again, sadness Reload isn't bring that back. *Reload* is obviously the one to play since it's the newest and all but would highly recommend after playing it to check out the P3 stuff it doesn't have since well, never wrong to see more of characters you love right? Also might be fun to compare how the cutscenes hold up (not sure but from what I've seen it looks like Reload prefers to use CGI modeling for its Cutscenes as opposed to the original's anime ones and idk might be cool to compare which ones fit the tone more or something XD). Persona 4 (also PS2) had its remake Persona 4 Golden come out on the PSP (I think you can play it on Steam now though). It's a little dated now but damn if it wasn't a great starting point for a lot of people. P4's general themes are truth, lies, how media distorts stuff and acceptance. Also has murder mystery elements leading many fans to joke how it's the 'happiest game about murder they've ever played' XD Persona 5 came on on the PS3 and its remake Persona 5 Royal is on a ton of consoles (and also Steam?) now. Royal heavily recommended over the original even if the original is still incredibly solid in its own right. P5's themes are authority, corruption, justice and rebellion, with something of a phantom thief/noir aesthetic (the stealing makes total sense in context but is nigh impossible to explain easily outside of it X'D). And now Spin Off info! Persona Q and Q2 are crossovers between Persona games (Q being between P3 and P4, while Q2 has the casts of 3, 4 and 5 all hanging out). PQ came out on the Nintendo DS I think and PQ2 was like, the VERY last game on the 3DS. They're kinda notorious for the chibi art style, some unlucky characters being heavily flanderized for dubious comedy reasons and being 'minimally canon' (the plots take place 'out of time' and all the characters have their memories of the events erased afterwards to prevent continuity errors) but they do have a lot of really great character interactions you'd otherwise never see, the original plots are actually pretty good (if very focused on the 'characters of the day'), they periodically play up the 'if only these two could have met and helped each other' stuff and I'm like 90% sure that Rei of Persona Q is implied in Persona 4 Arena to be the unnamed 'mother' of the Anti Shadow Suppression Units (aka major niche lore!) so even if they're not 'required playing' I dearly love these games a ton and believe they are heavily undervalued by most fans. -Also the HIKARI cutscene in PQ2 is the most bizaar bop and I wish more people I knew were as crazy about it as me-
The P4 Arena games are fighting game sequels to Persona 4 (both on the PS3) set roughly a year later and have them meeting some of the now older and wiser P3 cast for real this time. They have solid plots actually (with Ultimax being Arena's sequel set the day after Arena's events) but they are tragically overlooked by fans, probably because they're a little old now and P4 Arena does that really annoying fighting game thing of having none of the routes being full canon so you have to play all of them to get bits of what is confirmed canon by the sequel (P4 Arena Ultimax on the other hand, thankfully just goes for 'P4 route' and 'P3 route' story modes with the P4 one being the official 'true ending', and the P3 one mostly being a really cool alternative scenario that shows off some really great character interactions XD). Persona 4 Dancing was on either the Vita or the Portable (can't remember) and it had an alright plot that was let down a bit reused cutscenes and imagery. The other Persona Dancing games are both mostly plotless fanservice and are on the PS4 and Vita. Persona 5 Scramble is a 'Warriors style Hack and Slash' game for the Nintendo Switch that acts as a sequel to Persona 5 set about a year later and it's basically 'P5 cast have a fun road trip holiday around Japan and casually save the world (again) in the process'. Very fun though much lighter in tone than the original Persona 5 and the music is an utter bop~ XD And er, one game (and opening) you missed is Persona 5 Tactica on the Switch, another P5 sequel spinoff with strategy game mechanics. P5T is very much like the Q games in that it's all set within a central 'otherworld' location, the plot is all about the character of the day, and it has a very chibi art style but unlike the Q games there is no crossover, time travel, or memory erasure stuff so um. It's full canon as far as I know and while it doesn't bring a whole lot new to the table regarding the P5 cast or the series as a whole, the character of the day and the plot is VERY well written so. I like it! It's probably the most 'average/forgettable' Person spinoff for most people though~ XD And yeah. That all was a lot but hope it helps you work out a fair bit more of what games to look out for and where to start. And thanks again for the fun reaction vid
About the Persona JoJo comparison, while Persona has some things kind of sort of like JoJo(if you squint), Persona is actually more based on Psychology. More specifically Doctor Jung Yung's Psychological Studies. That's where concepts like Personas, Shadows, the Collective Unconscious, the Archetypes ect. all came from. These are very prominent concepts in the Persona series.
Hilariously it is still a valid comparison as Persona creator did admit he took inspiration from JoJo... And this similarity is the whole reason WHY Lotus Juice jumped on board with P3 because he LOVED how similar two are (and which in turn earned him a ticket to write music for anime adaptation of JoJo pt2 Battle Tendency)
It was on the Playstation 1 actually but yeah, it was from waaaay back XD The writing for the Persona 1 and Persona 2 openings are quotes I believe. Not sure where the P2 one is from (I think it's some tragic play or romance novel or something) but the P1's 'I dreamt I was a butterfly' is from a famous Buddhist Koan (basically a 'riddle/poem designed to help others along the path to enlightenment') where the speaker questions that: If there is no functional difference between I and the butterfly in this dream then is there any functional difference between us in the waking world, between the waking world and the dream itself, and am I even 'I' to begin with? Basically very 'What is reality?' kinda stuff. (Tempted to go into a full blah about how this meshes up with Buddhist philosophy as a whole but that's getting a bit off topic XD) Anyway, said butterfly quote being famous in Japan is why a ton of anime and JRPGs use butterflies in association with dreams, illusions, enlightenment, etc as well as the more standard 'transformation' meaning they tend to symbolise everywhere. And yeah, all those meanings fit with the Persona series really well so that's probably why the series loves to use butterfly motifs every game. The nature of the butterfly may shift per game (sometimes its a character, other times its just symbolism and one game it's pretty much just 'hi I'm a save point' but regardless its always there and always good to see~
As a persona fan, i dont mind you referring to them as stands because thats litteraly what they are, the only 2 differences between jojo and persona is that the persona protagonist can wield multiple stands, and the story of persona is seeking a purpous in life
Each Persona takes place years after the other. However each incident are so isolated and self contained, that they have nothing to do with each other. So there's no if "this happened before so why aren't X Y and Z coming to help?". Yes it did happen before. No, nobody's coming to help cuz nobody knows shit's going down again. They're just going on with their lives.
Persona 1 and 2 got remakes on the PSP both in 2009 and 2011. Persona 2 is split into 2 games, as well. The newer looking Persona 1 and 2 openings are from those remakes.
In persona 3 one day more then 24 hour. 12 Am start dark hour normal people turn the coffin form and sleep in the coffin. Some people are special can experience the dark hour. In dark hour also shadows awakening too. Special people can destroy the shadows with their personas.
So! Some things to note. The more popular games started with Persona 3 and gained popularity from there. Personas 3-5 work with color theory and use only one main color to spark the mood the game goes for: Blue is 3, Yellow is 4, and Red is 5. Any ope ing with those three primary colors will be linked to the corresponding game. The two chibi games were the Persona Q series, a small crossover series that saw the cast of 3 & 4 together in Q1, and 3, 4 & 5 in Q2.
Fun fact all Persona games are canon including every spinoff and ironically unlike what you said at least out of the modern persona games (3, 4 and 5) it feels like the persona 5 characters have the least chemistry with eachother
@@ianbeasley2092 ya literally every spinoff you could make an argument for some of them maybe but most spinoff games are implied to be canon like the persona Q games or the persona 4 dancing and fighting games but while some it's harder to justify there's dialogue in each game that implies every game is canon and it's also widely accepted (at least to my knowledge) that every game is canon
@@Thehenta1menace to my knowledge i thought it was only p4 arena, specifically 4 dancing, maybe tactica, and strikers. the others are really iffy because they play off events happening that we know didn't actually happen. persona q i dont think is canon as an example bc it takes place during the typhoon in p3 and during said typhoon the gang goes to tartarus and Q happens but we know thats not what actually happens because Makoto sleeps throughout the entire storm. i mean im not saying im right bc im not certain so i def could be wrong but i know for sure that not ALL spinoffs are canon
@@ianbeasley2092 I'm technically not entirely sure either I'm really just saying what I've heard other people say but when it comes to PQ even the biggest lore nerds say it's cannon (and yes P5S is canon it's a sequel) but there's a lot of evidence for every spinoff game being cannon and not every spinoff game being cannon (also you missed the Aegis mobile game which is canon as a prequel to P3)
Here is a brief explanation of what type of game Persona 3-5 and the spinoffs are. So the first Persona 3 was first released for PS2 and they then upgraded it and re-launched it as Persona 3 Fes which has additional content and an extra story after about 3 months the game ended. Then came Persona 4 which is its own story unlike Persona 1 and 2. They then re-released Persona 3 and Persona 4 as portables for PSP, renamed Persona 3 Portable (P3P) and Persona 4 Golden, and added new features. P3P is the same story but they added a new route and main character which is the female protagonist (the mirror image of the opening symbolizes how it is the same story but different character routes and choices such as if you play the female character you can make social links and romance the male party members). Persona 4 Golden got the Persona 3 Fes treatment and got extra content and story. Then there were Persona Q and Persona Q2 which are chibified Persona characters in dungeon crawlers for the 3ds. Persona Q has the Persona 3 cast meet the Persona 4 cast or vice versa and you explore dungeons kinda like the Etrian Odyssey series. Persona Q2 is the Persona 5 cast meets the Persona 4, Persona 3 cast, and P3P female MC, also same gameplay as before. Persona 4 Arena and Persona 4 Ultimax are both Persona 4 turned into a fighting game like Street Fighter. Persona 3 Dancing in Moonlight, Persona 4 Dancing All Night, and Persona 5 Dancing in Starlight are all dancing games with their respective remix soundtracks, gameplay is like the Miku games. Persona 5 was the long-awaited launch of the next Persona game and Persona 5 Royal is just like Persona 3 Fes and Persona 4 Golden, same game but additional new content. Persona 5 Scramble is a sequel story to Persona 5 but the gameplay was changed to a Dynasty Warrior gameplay. Persona 3 Reload is a complete remake of the Persona 3 game. Also finally, funny enough they left out Persona 5 Tactica which is the newest Persona 5 spinoff with its gameplay changed to a tactical RPG instead and the artwork changed to a more Western style.
Persona's music is very good, but listening to it consecutively is a bit tiring because it has many similar songs, you can even find the P5 soundtrack with several songs that have different versions of it.
the (another version) songs are usually just versions that play in other areas of the same dungeon like for example theres When Mother was There, and When Mother was There -Another Version-. thats at least for those who haven't played the game, so its not like a beta version or anything if that makes it any *less* confusing
The code names for the phantom thieves are actually picked very throughly if you realise. Joker and queen are named after titles and they both share the same leader calm and collective personality. Fox and panther are named after animals because of their extrantic characters and love for art and fashion basically they are different from the norm. Skull and Noir are named after things to emphasize on their rough and onga bonga tendencies. And Navi is named after a job which just makes you remember how alone and isolated she is 💀. Plus Mona's name basically describes his character very much because it's mean to be noble and chivalrous And the funny thing this is the first Google result that popped out for me when i searched for meaning "Noble, aristocratic; Alone; To advise; To protect; My lady; Wish" it really sounds like something he will say lol And to put more dots on the letters Joker is meant to be king and not really a joker since they are taking the rules of poker into real life and in poker the real king is the joker So king and queen doesn't that seem lovely ?.
To answer your question about the connection, technically no but mentions are viable, the thing is that the first 3 games (cause persona 2 is technically a two part game) are a different style compared to P3-5 but there is no mention of the original games in P3-5 where as P5 has alot of references to P3 and P4, the thing is, you don’t have to play previous games to play Persona 5 cause they are all different stories to each other. And also if you say stand or spirit your not wrong on that so it’s okay
25:05 persona is literally a spin off of shin megami tensei where they summon the enemies as stands instead of recruiting them as allies, persona 4 is basically the exact same premise as jojo part 4, you cannot convince me that the jojo part 4 ops are not at least slightly inspired by this one
Games have similar themes and motifs, but they don't interconnect. You can jump into the series wherever you like. Persona 5 Royal is the most recent and has had the biggest mainstream success.
bro you should know this cuz its so funny but the creator of persona and jojo's bizzare adventures are friend so they put a lot of references into each other works
These videos always miss out on Persona 5 Tactica! It's newer than the compilation video used, but not as new as Persona 3 Reload. Also, given when Stands were introduced in Jojo, it's more accurate to say that Stands are like Personas rather than the other way around. Also funny that you paused trying to read Queen's name from the graffiti behind her when it shows the word "Queen" in a way more legible font like two frames later. And, in case anyone cares: an android is a machine designed to look like a human (like Data from Star Trek). A cyborg is created using both robotic and organic parts (like in the Deus Ex video games) and may or may not look human.
Yes and no on the games being linked. For the most part you can consider the Persona games in their own universe, or multiverse if you will. That's all I will say as they are something I feel should be experienced rather than told, if that makes sense.
42:18 Fun Fact: Morgana (the cat) is the healer and has super high critical strike chances, making him the best for dealing with enemies who have no weaknesses.
Also has murder mystery elements leading many fans to joke how it's the 'happiest game about murder they've ever played' XD
Persona 5 came on on the PS3 and its remake Persona 5 Royal is on a ton of consoles (and also Steam?) now.
Very fun though much lighter in tone than the original Persona 5 and the music is an utter bop~ XD
And er, one game (and opening) you missed is Persona 5 Tactica on the Switch, another P5 sequel spinoff with strategy game mechanics. I like it! It's probably the most 'average/forgettable' Person spinoff for most people though~ XD
And yeah. That all was a lot but hope it helps you work out a fair bit more of what games to look out for and where to start. And thanks again for the fun reaction vid
Way too much credit to the Gameboy dawg
lmao and its not even ANY gameboy
26:07 how did he know??
About the Persona JoJo comparison, while Persona has some things kind of sort of like JoJo(if you squint), Persona is actually more based on Psychology. More specifically Doctor Jung Yung's Psychological Studies. That's where concepts like Personas, Shadows, the Collective Unconscious, the Archetypes ect. all came from. These are very prominent concepts in the Persona series.
Hilariously it is still a valid comparison as Persona creator did admit he took inspiration from JoJo... And this similarity is the whole reason WHY Lotus Juice jumped on board with P3 because he LOVED how similar two are (and which in turn earned him a ticket to write music for anime adaptation of JoJo pt2 Battle Tendency)
first time watching you and this was fun. always a great time seeing new reactions to the persona openings.
My brother in Christ you really don't remember what Gameboy games looked like.
there is a new vocalist for each game
not true lotus juice is in 90% of them and one of the singers sang for 60% of the games
@@stanfoo1175 no I know that but I’m talking persona 1-5 just mainline
It was on the Playstation 1 actually but yeah, it was from waaaay back XD
The writing for the Persona 1 and Persona 2 openings are quotes I believe.
(Tempted to go into a full blah about how this meshes up with Buddhist philosophy as a whole but that's getting a bit off topic XD)
Anyway, said butterfly quote being famous in Japan is why a ton of anime and JRPGs use butterflies in association with dreams, illusions, enlightenment, etc as well as the more standard 'transformation' meaning they tend to symbolise everywhere.
And yeah, all those meanings fit with the Persona series really well so that's probably why the series loves to use butterfly motifs every game. The nature of the butterfly may shift per game (sometimes its a character, other times its just symbolism and one game it's pretty much just 'hi I'm a save point' but regardless its always there and always good to see~
I was here a couple years ago for thr JoJo video, now im back and theres a Persona one?
Oh its a wrap
As a persona fan, i dont mind you referring to them as stands because thats litteraly what they are, the only 2 differences between jojo and persona is that the persona protagonist can wield multiple stands, and the story of persona is seeking a purpous in life
Each Persona takes place years after the other. However each incident are so isolated and self contained, that they have nothing to do with each other. So there's no if "this happened before so why aren't X Y and Z coming to help?". Yes it did happen before. No, nobody's coming to help cuz nobody knows shit's going down again. They're just going on with their lives.

The p5 code names arent all animals. Just 2
Joker
Mona
Skull
Panther
Fox
Queen
Navi (oracle in english)
Noir
To be fair, that was on the Strikers OP, and they also got Wolf later in the game
41:13 Queen…
Persona 1 and 2 got remakes on the PSP both in 2009 and 2011. Persona 2 is split into 2 games, as well.
The newer looking Persona 1 and 2 openings are from those remakes.
In persona 3 one day more then 24 hour. 12 Am start dark hour normal people turn the coffin form and sleep in the coffin. Some people are special can experience the dark hour. In dark hour also shadows awakening too. Special people can destroy the shadows with their personas.
26:05 fucking spot on bruh
How did bro even come up with that
Epic reaction on those Persona game songs
Fun fact all Persona games are canon including every spinoff and ironically unlike what you said at least out of the modern persona games (3, 4 and 5) it feels like the persona 5 characters have the least chemistry with eachother
not EVERY spinoff is canon
@@ianbeasley2092 ya literally every spinoff you could make an argument for some of them maybe but most spinoff games are implied to be canon like the persona Q games or the persona 4 dancing and fighting games but while some it's harder to justify there's dialogue in each game that implies every game is canon and it's also widely accepted (at least to my knowledge) that every game is canon
@@ianbeasley2092Yes they are. Even the dancing ones are.
The one girl you was trying to figure her name is is Queen she basically the brains of the phantom thieves so she chose Queen as her name
Fun fact: the guy rapping in persona 3 did music in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure as well. I believe it was Joseph's theme
Lost it when bros bugging out tryna read Queen then completely misses out that it's written clearly on the screen a second later.
Persona's music is very good, but listening to it consecutively is a bit tiring because it has many similar songs, you can even find the P5 soundtrack with several songs that have different versions of it.
That's a leitmotif for ya
I don’t get that feeling with any of the games except P5 😂, when you make like 4 spinoffs of the same stuff it’s inevitable (to me at least)
Kinda weird take when every game is so different genre wise.
the (another version) songs are usually just versions that play in other areas of the same dungeon like for example theres When Mother was There, and When Mother was There -Another Version-. thats at least for those who haven't played the game, so its not like a beta version or anything if that makes it any *less* confusing
@@ma.2089 That's just untrue, every game save the very original iterations of 1 and 2 are filled with pop rock and jazz.
YAPPING!!!!
Plus Mona's name basically describes his character very much because it's mean to be noble and chivalrous
And the funny thing this is the first Google result that popped out for me when i searched for meaning
"Noble, aristocratic; Alone; To advise; To protect; My lady; Wish" it really sounds like something he will say lol
And to put more dots on the letters Joker is meant to be king and not really a joker since they are taking the rules of poker into real life and in poker the real king is the joker
So king and queen doesn't that seem lovely ?.
in P4 Girl with pigtails is the girl who throws herself at you. But Yukiko is my favorite.
And also if you say stand or spirit your not wrong on that so it’s okay
persona's heavily inspired by jojo's so calling them stands is completely valid
why people always forget about persona 5 tactica?
The only thing I gotta say is that I understand why you didn’t get the timeline, because you saw the videos in a completely random order lol
8:14 "the joker type fit"
little did he no P2 had the original joker :-)
Nah the most popular girl from P4 with the fanbase is probably Chie, who appears at the 14:55 mark in the green jacket.
Persona’s a Shin Megami Tensei spin-off by the way
Bruh chobits ost in the background
buddy that intro was insane
25:05 persona is literally a spin off of shin megami tensei where they summon the enemies as stands instead of recruiting them as allies, persona 4 is basically the exact same premise as jojo part 4, you cannot convince me that the jojo part 4 ops are not at least slightly inspired by this one
Games have similar themes and motifs, but they don't interconnect. You can jump into the series wherever you like. Persona 5 Royal is the most recent and has had the biggest mainstream success.
I can already tell you would like Persona 5 and 3 Reload
Persona was originally a spin off of Shin Megami Tensei
26:00 Yo put respect on Igor's name, he is a real one
You should definitely play the games, its one of the best turn based games for sure.
Persona three is when they figured out what style they wanted to do for the persona series and it shows
The butterfly is Philemon basically good god of personas
26:06 you actually guessed it 😭
bro you should know this cuz its so funny but the creator of persona and jojo's bizzare adventures are friend so they put a lot of references into each other works
44:31 It's funnier when you don't hear the joke 🤣
Bro was asking how lotus juice isn’t dead yet🙏😭
Why did this compilation show the games not together with their ports/spin offs? Lol It was weird going from Persona 4 back to Persona 1 again.
Soul Phrase is the best Persona intro
Yeah, Persona are essentially stands, to put it simply. At least in how they're used.
Probably a little late but up until recently Persona was ps exclusive
Did you just call "Burn my Dread" lackluster?
Nahhhh the game boy was not strong enough for persona 1
Bro really dissed burn my dread...
Yes and no on the games being linked. For the most part you can consider the Persona games in their own universe, or multiverse if you will. That's all I will say as they are something I feel should be experienced rather than told, if that makes sense.
please do a persona playthrough

42:18 Fun Fact: Morgana (the cat) is the healer and has super high critical strike chances, making him the best for dealing with enemies who have no weaknesses. He's also the weakest member of the party and is insecure about it despite being the single most important member of the crew. He's the mastermind.
I wouldn’t call him the most important or a healer. he just has healing abilities at the start because nobody else does
