For the cabbage moths and worms. I read a 1966 organic gardening book that said to mix flour and salt and spread on the plants early in the morning while the dew is on. This is what all the amish communities do around me. Love your channel!!

Awww so sweet seeing family working together it brings happy tears to my eyes remember when I was younger working in the yard with my siblings, mother, grandmother, and a great grandmother. I do work in the yard now my son
Mom, there is a lesson about cooking out doors using a pizza box, aluminum foil and something else to cook. Of course you can make your own box. Love the science!🤗🤗

We have true white mulberries that stay white even when ripe. One of our white mulberry trees is enormous, with a trunk 2-3 feet in diameter. We also have lots of black mulberries, as well as hybrids of the two. So yummy!

Concerning lettuce harvest, I have found it helpful to just harvest a few of the outer leaves of a number of plants at their base as they come to size, rather than cutting whole heads. You don't have to wait for a full head to grow, nor for a full one to regrow before harvesting. Then there is a steady supply of leaves from the bed and all plants at same stage in growth.

I have a mulberry tree in my backyard also, but it is very tall and grows into the electrical wires between the yards, so the electric company comes around every few years and trims the branches. Now the tree resembles a stalk of broccoli, only having the very tallest branches remaining but much too tall to harvest any berries. The birds are the lucky ones to benefit from the fruit. I enjoyed seeing how your garden is growing and the joy your entire family takes in watching and working together, growing with the garden. Thank you for sharing.
Years ago I had an inhome daycare. I also had a relatively small garden. Every couple weeks we would have a contest to see who could find the most snails (we had a really bad snail problem) and caterpillars. The children were taught how to be gentle and it became fun. They would each have their own container. If they found a tomato worm or a very large snail it was worth double points. The kids were enthusiastic helpers and they learned something about gardening.
For awards they not only had prize ribbons to show their parents but that day they would get homemade cookies with the top 3 getting small bags of cookies to take home for their families.
They not only learned about how fun gardening was (we lived in a city of over 100,000) but sportsmanship and they would be so proud when presenting their bag of cookies to their parent.
While your kids might not be as excited about homemade cookies for a prize since they already get to enjoy those regularly it can be fun coming up with some other prize.

I had problems with rabbits also. I use a deer and rabbit repellent. Just spray it around the edge your garden or raised beds. It worked. They dont like the smell. I cant remember the brand but i found it on amazon
I planted dill in amongst my cabbage this year, hint from Brian Lowell, and NO BUGS!!
I used Pomona's Pectin the other day for the first time and my blueberry/strawberry/blackberry jam turned out great and with very little sugar! I didn't know Mulberry were actually trees, I thought they were a bush like blueberries. Thanks for showing us your morning routine, you guys are hard workers.

Beautiful video thank you for sharing. A little trick I learned from Charles Dowding( no dig market gardener from England); pick just the outer leaves of each lettuce head. Do this every 2nd or 3rd day, the next out leaves will have grown big enough to pick. This way You will get weeks of harvest from one head! Provided they dont bolt. No need to succesion sow. Your garden is looking beautiful! I understand your frustration with the little cabbage worms. Last year was the first year i was able to actually harvest cabbages. I had seen a video where they used PVC pipe to make a small hoop house with their raised bed and put floating row cover over it. We used clothes pins to attach the row cover to the metal beds and used plastic clamps they sell on amazon to hold the row cover to the pipes. It looked like a little wagon train when finished. NO WORMS! I was dancing around my garden I was so happy to get a huge cabbage crop. Did it again this year and we will hopefully get the same result. I am in awe of all your garlic scapes! YUM
Yahoo at 62 years young, I made my first loaf of yeast bread using your easy bread recipe in my #NinjaBlender with bread dough hook! I am so proud of myself and it is yummy! Thanks so much! I would love one of the solar ovens! But I would probably buy a freeze dryer if I had the extra cash to spend.

I have a very, very old mulberry tree on my property that I make jam with. There is just something so yummy about mulberries. Since they tend to be a little tart and a lot less juicy I tend to make a combo jam. This winter I did Mulberry Strawberry with some frozen berries. Since my berries aren't ripe yet, I plan to do a Raspberry Mulberry jam The combo of fruits is so yummy and with two different berries it is just added nutrients! For canners, there is a low/no sugar powdered pectin by Ball that is amazing. I have a lot of diabetics in my family so was excited to find it, tho I tend to use just regular Ball pectin with low sugar too. Something about letting the fruit speak for itself just seems right. One idea for extra jam or jelly you have that you want to try and use up before making more is putting some in smoothies for your kids.
I think that's awesome & all kids should learn these values about life homeschooled or not, kids now a days take everything way too much for granted & will have a rude awakening when things go down. I wish parents would think of this & realize the importance of survival for their children, bravo to those who are already showing the younger generation how important it is to know how things work to survive & not depend on stores for everything. I have a 1 year old Beagle that is great with kids & dogs that would love to help you keep rabbits away! (Our fenced in backyard is not enough to satisfy her tracking instincts).

I love pomonas! This week we took their blueberry rhubarb recipe and turned it into a mulberry rhubarb recipe. It is so good! If you have more mulberries and rhubarb I highly suggest trying it.
Our mulberry trees in Indiana are loaded this year as well! I questioned for a second if it was a bi-annual plant because we hardly had any last year haha! Really enjoy watching your videos. Thanks for sharing :)

If you drink milk, fill the empty container with water and use that to water your tomatoes. This has always produced blooms for me!

Seriously glad you mentioned the sun oven. I think it is one of the best things to have in our homestead arsenals, especially since we are being warned about blackouts.
We harvest the mulberries similar to you. We lay a tarp down under the tree and we get a very long pole and are able to shake around the higher branches with the pole. You can get about 6lb of berries this way. Also, I just learned that the green coriander pods are edible and delicious. It kind of makes up for the cilantro bolting and not being able to harvest any leaves. Fortunately you get plenty of seeds to be able to eat some fresh green ones while leaving plenty to dry.

Just be careful with the dry ice as you can get a burn from it if it touches your skin.

We live in the desert, so not only do my ducks enjoy a few fresh pools a day- but they ask for a spray down with the hose too :) (And even some of my chickens do too!)

Have you considered mulching your garden beds? I live in Australia, heat is a big struggle here,l need to mulch everything ,pots too,it saves me a lot of water and time watering the garden,and it protects the soil too.

Everything is so exciting to watch grow. That was a cool way to harvest mulberries. I'm waiting on my sun oven to arrive but I've been using a friend's oven and I had to have one. I love the thought of being able to use it year-round here in Florida. But they do claim to be able to cook in it in the snow as well. I guess it's all about those UV rays. You need row covers over your brassicas - early in this vid we saw a cabbage moth flitting among your plants and thought, "Uh-oh - caterpillars in your future!"
My cabbage and cauliflower got hit with the cabbage loopers as well. I picked them off and fed them to the chickens for a treat. While the “lace” pattern they left isn’t desirable my cabbage and cauliflower look like they will recover.😊
