Replacing All The Plumbing in 730 sq ft Home (We're Not Plumbers...)
Вставка

- We are so excited to get moved in to our new home, but first! We’re going give this original condition 90s home a makeover, and replace all the 30 year old Poly-B plumbing ourselves!
Multi-project hour and a half video - that's what I'm talking about! Fantastic!
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm surprised to find this the top comment when I was just coming to say, kind of, the opposite. I think one video for the supply line replacement, then maybe one for the tiling and one for the finishing would feel better to me. Maybe I'm more drawn to the shorter videos that I can watch back-to-back when I have the time, but also could watch a little at a time when I have less time.
Either way, I really like the content! I happily watched the full hour and a half because it's so refreshing to see these two work together so well and get stuff done.
@@resnak It's just like Netflix releasing a whole season of epsiodes at the same time - you can choose to binge the lot (as I did) or watch a bit at a time. 😀
❤️ The Long format video it us really nice to see the progress. One of my favourite parts was you two working together in the tub one high one low! Mate, put a ring in that finger they just do not get any better than Meg.
I cannot get over how well Meg and Mike work together. What a beautiful bath. Well done you two.
Thank you so much! We're really happy with how it turned out!
You work well together, the closest the wife and I got to breaking up was putting up a storm door. We are still going strong 45 years later but we don’t do too many projects together.
For a 1995 unit it really seems to be in great shape. You guys are going to make it look incredible.
The bathroom looks awesome.
Thanks so much! Ya, we were amazed at how good condition it's in given it's a 95! We're stoked to get the rest of it finished up!
A little tip for putting in a bath: when ready for silicone around the edge, half fill the bath with cold water and let it sit for an hour. Then apply your silicone, and leave until cured. Once cured, empty the bath.
This will make the silicone compress a little, and make it less likely to split/pull away as it gets older whenever it's used as a bath rather than a shower.
Haha, I was waiting for the hot fingers. You handled it well😊
lol!
For future reference, wyes are required when connecting vent/drain pipe in the horizontal (like the original branch connection), and sanitary tees are only allowed in vertical piping.
I can relate to the 3 minute shower. I was on a submarine and we had to conserve water. This meant, get in, get wet, turn off the water, suds up and rinse. When we got back to port we had unlimited water and it felt great to just stand there and let the hot water flow over your body. A working bathroom! You don't realize how awesome it is until you don't have one. Great job!!!
That must have been a crazy experience being on a submarine, wow! And yes, conserving water doesn't make for the most relaxing of showers haha! Still has taken us a few times to get rid of the muscle memory of turning the shower off before sudsing lol! but man, it just hits different having a fully functioning bathroom now. One step closer! Thanks for watching!
Meg I want you to know you have inspired me soooo much! I work in the log woods around a bunch of men and we also do A LOT of mechanic’n. Since I have been watching your videos I have started taking it upon myself to fix things when they break (which is OFTEN) instead of waiting for the guys to do it and being the designated “gofer”.😂 I have learned so much just by staying calm and doing research.
Just the other day i checked to see if there was an episode i missed (lol) , been watching since day one !!!
Glad you’re back !!
Right you can’t leave anything alone , but for the right reasons !!!
Thank you so much! It's been a busy couple weeks but we're stoked to share what we've been working on! Grateful to have your support, thanks for being here!
Wow! Again, I’m blown away with all you’re willing to tackle! I know from many renovation projects how gruelling and tedious and time consuming it can be. You made it look doable- with grace and patience and mutual respect. Lovely work and I can’t wait for part 2!
Thank you so much 🥰 ! Appreciate you!! ❤️
fun watching u r videos. i did an old farm house remodel 20 years ago. best tool is a roll around scaffolding. rock on garth.
Thank you @jerrydaniel1530 !! 😊 Party on!
Meg you're so funny, that's why I love your videos. "Ooooohohoho!" with the hammer. I love it.
😁 Thank you!
I love these long format videos. Keep em coming!
That's great to hear! Thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching!
OK, that bathroom refit became a real thing. A full on project.
But.....
That hot shower is going to make all the other projects so much more bearable.
You guys work so hard, in punishing conditions, mainly involving lots of dirt, wet dirt, so yeah... MUD!
You're sure going to put your drainage and septic through some stuff, but being able to wash those dirt days off in comfort is a game changer.
Real excited to see what you come up with for the rest of the manufactured home. And it's also good you've got this chunk of remodel work for this time of year. Has it been unseasonably warm with you too? Seems a lot less snow than I'd expect, but might be down to video lag.
Keep up the grand work, you two are living a great life. Eagerly awaiting part 2.
Thanks so much, Dave! That's very kind. Yes, the hot shower/bathroom sanctuary is a real motivator right now lol! It has been a very mild winter this year, but the last few weeks have been very cold!!!
Mike your a natural, great addition to the channel !!
Thanks Steve!
Fantastic job. Looks a million dollars. Well done, you should be justly proud of the finished product.
Thanks so much Mike! Appreciate that!
Your bathroom looks so sanitary.... Almost like a operating room. Nice job
Getting up all of the staples used to tack down the carpet padding is a never ending task. Good luck!
Omg did that ever take long lol! Even when you think you're done... no you're not, ha!
We did that at out house and every time I thought I had all of the staples pulled up I saw more.
Then I vaccumed and found more and damp mopped and found even more. Whoever stapled
that padding down was SICK!
@@lesdickert5984 lol!
you guys make a great team. love tour videos , and I laugh every time meg explains things , she talks with her whole body !! and that's not meant in a bad way . she's animated
lol! Thank you! 😊
I'm impressed by the tile work in the shower. Absolutely perfect.
Thanks so much, David!!
You both did a awesome job.
Thank you, Dana!
Watching you both work together so wonderfully makes me happy. Best wishes!
Thank you Ed! Best wishes to you too!
Don't you guys ever fight. My wife and I built a house together and by the end we near had to split it up. Ok now though
So impressive how you two work together, dynamic duo for sure.
Thank you!
Fantastic job. It looks wonderful! This nice hour and a half video was well worth the wait.
Thank you Steven, appreciate that! And so glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching!
Yay!! A new video. I once had a 1980 14 x 70 mobile home. I turned the second bedroom into an office and removed the closet to make more room. My primary tool was an Xcelite R183 screwdriver (look it up). I called it my "mobile home wrecking bar."
Awesome!!
The bathroom really looks great, and I love watching a project from start to finish. Love to you both!❤
Thank you so much @mrsdig57 ! Appreciate you!
Fantastic. Only problem is 3 weeks since last video is too long. I was in going stir crazy looking every day for a new video to drop. In the end worth the wait.
Thank you @InDaBarn! Definitely a busy past couple weeks but our goal is to release videos more frequently going forward. Thanks for your understanding and so glad this one was worth the wait!
Dang you folks do nice work!
So nice to see couples working together without arguing lol!!
Thank you, Brendan!
Awesome video thanks, can’t wait for the next project.
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it!
Your video was definitely a attention holder, loved it and your working as a team together completing the plumbing and remodel of Bathroom , proud of you both in an adventure,😊😊😊 well done !!!
That's awesome, we're so glad you enjoyed the video! Thank you for the support!
Hey Meg. You are one hard worker. Bath looks great, can't wait for part two.
Thanks so much, Philip!
A couple notes from a DIYer:
- back butter those tiles so they stick easier
- Also for future reference, do not grout the corners or anywhere there might be movement -- use color matched silicone caulk instead. The grout will likely crack as walls move.
- Toilet flange should ideally be on top of the tile (but everyone does it your way -- they just have to use a larger toilet seal)
- Ideally you would have a decoupling membrane underneath the tile such as Ditra or cement board for when the floor moves so the movement doesn't cause tile and grout to crack
- The grouts and thinsets that come in a bucket pre-mixed (wet) are generally not good so avoid when possible
- Tile and grout is not waterproof so expect anything behind it to possibly get wet over time
- Depending what type of grout and tile you use, make sure to seal it so it doesn't immediately get moldy and discolored and gross
- Instead of drywall plugs for the med cabinet, there are other options. I'm guessing you are already aware of them but just didn't have them on hand. They're good alternatives though!
It's great how you two work together so well.
Thanks so much, Victor!
Y'all work so good together 🥰
Thank you!!
You guys killed it! Looks amazing.
Thank you so much!
Team work makes the dream work. Great video. Fun and also informative. Love you 2 as a team.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much!
Great content and production. Well done. Thx 🇨🇦
Thank you, Mark!
I think you too are ABSOLUTELY frickin awesome. I love how Meg asks questions and is so involved. My favorite UA-cam people ever.
Aw thank you so much!! We're so glad you're enjoying the videos! We appreciate you!
Great video Mike & Meg. I'm so envious of the both of you. Young, hardworking, competent, and smart. I'm a senior and academic and not hands on, like my good friends. The projects that both undertake are arduous work, but also require skills, willingness to tackle and mechanical understanding of equipment and common sense. I can't tear apart my cars, do the plumbing, appliances or house upkeep like them but those are the skills that I see in this young couple doing these projects. I've worked with my buddies doing a few projects in my younger, healthier days which I could envision them doing work that Meg & Mike tackle. Kudos to this Canadian couple for keeping the independent & self-reliant lifestyle of the modern generation. Too many urbanized younger generation would not be able to handle the lifestyle that you both enjoy and are good at. Nothing is free, but if one is willing, works hard and determined, they can achieve great things, which what I see this couple doing very quickly. Mahalo and keep going strong.
Thank you so much Tracy! That's very kind. We appreciate the support!
You guys managed to be the only ones that got me to watch a video more than 30 minutes long. This was really great. By the uptick in subscribers that I see, you are doing something right. Keep up the great work. Wish nothing but the best for you two.
Aw thank you so much! We're so glad you're enjoying the videos! We appreciate you!
Happy New Year. Still watching in Budapest. We missed you over Christmas and New Year.
Happy New Year to you too! We're so happy to be back and are excited to share what we have planned! Hope you had a great holiday!
Amazing work you two ! 😄🤩
Appreciate that, thank you!
I don't watch any one and a half hour videos of bathroom remodels. As I do this type of work myself. But this turned out based on what I can see in the videos very amazing good job you guys!!!
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
You’ve been busy! Great progress and deservedly satisfying.
Thanks Kev!! Yes, definitely busy around here lol! Thanks for watching and hope you're doing well!
You both make a great team.
Thank you, John!
The before and after on the bathroom says it all, great job!
Thank you so much!
Excellent job, Meg and Mike! The newly renovated bathroom looks so warm and inviting! I know all about Poly-B pipe being prone to cracking and leakage. A couple years back I had to fix the hot water pipe to the bathtub faucet in my parents house, my dad put in, in the 90's. PEX for the win! I'm stoked for part two of the reno :)
Thanks @HighSierra1500 ! Definitely well worth it! Thanks for watching and we're stoked you're looking forward to the rest of the reno! See ya next time!
I thought I was watching a Holmes on Homes episode after a while. Fantastic job!
That's awesome! Thank you!
Yep, you guys did it again. Love the way you work, and keep the learning curve in toon with the teaching curve.
Thank you, Jack!
The bathroom looks great! Wonderful job.
Thank you so much! Appreciate that!
That tile work looks incredible!! Good job, you guys!!
You two make a good team😊
Thank you, Erik!
that bathroom is looking good, Nice Job lots of work but you two did it and made it look easy keep it up you have that old place looking new in no time.
You guys did an amazing job on that bathroom!!! ❤it
Thank you so much!
You know it's a good Meg August video when it's a feature-length movie :D Congrats on the new old place!
Aw thank you @quantumreality215 ! So glad you're stoked on the loner videos!! Thanks for watching!
Wow, what an episode, nice work you two!
Thank you so much! Appreciate that!
Having done more than a couple toilet replacements (which sounds weird to say), you should dry fit them first without the wax ring, but use some blue tape for alignment. Make the marks on the blue tape where you need things to be, then install the wax ring. Drop the toilet to match the marks, secure it, and then peel up the blue tape. I know it's too late for this install but maybe a tip for the final house.
Thanks for the tips @mungtor !
Love watching you guys. Such a good team.
Thank you, Mark!
Living in Finland, we are used to bathrooms that are completely "water areas". Drainage on the floor (sometimes two), no separate "shower area", only separated with shower curtain. Bidet of course. You can clean the whole shower with the shower head or bidet.
Looks so great. You guys work so well together! 👏🏼
Thank you Sarah! Appreciate that!
A lot of what looks like crappy construction is actually necessary to make the trailer light enough to transport it on it's wheels and axles. When you upgrade everything with standard home things, you may never be able to move it again. My biggest problem with 80's trailer construction is using poly plumbing with compression board floors. When it leaked, that destroyed our bathroom floor. 3/4 inch compression board turns into 2 inches of sawdust. I had to rip everything out, right down to the joists. I redid the plumbing with PEX, installed waterproofed external plywood, installed a new bathtub and enclosure, leveled the floor, and laid down new vinyl. I just added a GFCI outlet for a bathroom heater. Lots of work, but it's very nice now,
Awesome job, Meg! It looks great! The editing is fantastic too! 🔨 Thank you for taking the time to share : )
Thank you Darryl! Appreciate that! We're so glad you're enjoying the videos!
You both did a great job on your bathroom!!
Thank you so much!
Great teamwork! FYI you can sweat the copper fittings onto the 1/2" pipe on its side, doesn't need to be vertical. The flux will suck the solder in. Much safer.
You both embody the DIY’er spirit 😊 truly enjoyed the video!
Thank you! That's awesome, we're so glad you enjoyed it!
Great video! Fun projects & looks great!
Thank you so much!
Looks good we have an older work shop trailer that i need to replace the poly in! i think you need to be known as the stocking feet construction co. !!!! have fun ,enjoy the shower
lol thank you!! Best of luck with your poly-b replacement! It wasn't as bad as we had initially thought, hope it goes well for you!
One huge upgrade on that bathroom, and of course the plumbing
Love the extra long video meg! Good job replacing all that old plumbing, yall did great!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
good job you Two....simple pleasures ( sink, toilet and shower) make a HUGE difference in happiness
Thank you so much! And my goodness, does it ever!
Excellent job on the plumbing and bathroom 👍🏻
Thanks so much! We appreciate it!
I really liked Megs solo videos when the channel started. But I LOVE watching you working together!
What a great job and really enjoyed watching that. Well done you two 👌
You guys are a ton of fun to watch! And you do great work! Keep going!
Was nice to watch from start to finish!!😁
That's great to hear! Glad you enjoyed it!
Great work! Nice to see shows with completed content! 😊
Thanks! We try very hard to always complete a project in single video or at least to a major milestone.
Great to see you guys back. Bathroom looks great!
Wow NICE WORK!! Exactly what we did to our 1988 mobile home Total rebuilt the Kitchen cupboard and drawers new slow close drawers and doors , bought all the cupboards from online Nelsons cabinets in Texas. You can design online. Ripped out all the carpet .R it with prego flooring adding 24x24 very low weave removable carpet squares. we also did a new water heater make sure to get the 40 gallon or bigger. also new tub and shower new bathroom cupboards and toilet also some nice light bars for the ceiling and a 90cfm new bathroom fan
It is beautiful to see that you are building your own place, from zero to completely build yourself. The Ikea kitchen is a good choice, i also build my own ikea kitchen and it was awesome and easy. keep up the good work en enjoyable videos. Many greetings from Stefan from the Netherlands. 😁😁😁😁 Also an amazing bathroom.
Thank you, Stefan! Ya the IKEA stuff is so great, so simple and easy to put together. Thanks for watching!
Great idea to get cold and hot water to outside! One thing to note about the mixing of hot and cold water. You want to have a check valve or somekind of backflow preventer to make sure that you don't get flow from the cold line into the hot line or vice versa.
Definitely an upgrade! I'm in the middle of a bathroom remodel, down to the studs. I wish I knew about that corner material a week ago!
Thanks Kevin! Ya, those corner beads are a dream! Best of luck with the rest of your reno, hope it goes well!
Yea, great looking job and Meg didn't get her fingers burned.😁😁
Watching from day one here in the SF Bay Area. Great video today! Great teamwork! Y’all are gonna be up there with the legendary Mike Holmes.
Thank you Steve! Glad you enjoyed this one! Always great to hear from you, and appreciate the support!

Wow thanks so much Andy! We're so glad you enjoyed the episode! Hope you have a great weekend!
Looks AWESOME Meg-N-Mike. 😁

Awesome transformation, nice and modern looking result.
Thank you so much! We're really happy with it!
we missed you over xmas :D glad youre both back!!!
The bathroom looks great. Great team work.
Thank you, Jerry!
For removing the tile cement very quickly, you can use an angle grinder, a diamond cup wheel and angle grinder dust shroud - all available at harbor freight - with those tools it would literally take 5-10 minutes to remove all that cement.
Its a great time saver.
Good choice in music @5:00 It had a real Sorcerer's Apprentice vibe and worked really well for the timelapse, sick!! Also, it's not my place, but I'd think abot extending out the kitchen another few feet. Maybe just to the outlet there?
Awesome job guys!!! Love from Ontario! 🤘🏼❤️🤘🏼
Thanks so much, Steve! Appreciate that!
Great job WOW looks very very nice!
Thank you, Loren! Appreciate that!
31:47 -- congrats on completing this job ....and completing this section of the house -- congrats ....
