  • This is a first ride review of the Scram411, just to see how it handles the dirt and compares to the Himalayan.
The bike has been added to the fleet of bikes for people to ride (mainly on road) including Honda CRF300 Rally, KTM 390 Adventure, BMW G 310 GS, Honda CB500X with Rally Raid kit. You can also ride it back to back with the full range of Royal Enfields.

Recently bought one, close 2000kms done in two months! Mostly city rides, and once a long ride of 350kms stretch, this bike is stable on highways and love how i can go over bumpy roads without downshifting much. This one is a keeper for me!

Such an honest approach is refreshing in these times where reviews are so often biased by a need for access to the next bike. We value your independent view. Are you able to advise when you might have an update on the TEC Cam?, many of us are hanging on your every word.

Great and informative first ride video. Looks like another great bike from the RE stable. Seriously interested in road testing one of these. Had a Himalayan previously but like the look of the scram as to me it looks a bit more mainstream than the Himmy. I imagine it's also probably the better option if most of your riding is on tarmac and I assume that the RE metal box panniers will be available to fit for touring. If the new seat is comfortable that will be another major plus point.I think it will be a tough choice between the new Classic 350, Meteor 350 and the Scram but suspect that the additional CC's in the Scram would make it a more practical proposition for long distance touring and generally keeping up with modern day traffic.

I just got one of these on a trade plus cash deal for my 3 year old interceptor. my first impressions are excellent suspension, extremely comfortable seat, easy to flick around on moderate dirt roads/trails, and a pretty good road feel in corners at the kind of speeds it is intended to ride. Grossly underpowered for highway use, but I really enjoy it, and find myself wanting to take it out for a spin every day.

Great first impression, handling and performance increase by dropping the extra weight is something many people are doing. My Himalayan is 99% road and 1% off road (rode over my yard). I have considered dropping the weight as the center stand is not as useful when it makes it back to the garage every night. The gages moving with the bike brings back a yesterday feel, only adds to the appeal for me.

Thanks for this Nathan, I was interested to hear whether or not the Scram's off-road ability was too compromised by the more street-biased geometry. This video supplied the answer and I know you know what you are talking about with these things, whereas I am just taking my first steps into off-road exploring.
I am looking for a bike for exploring trails and of course was looking at the Himalayan but actually the Scram appeals more to my taste visually and also the saddle is supposedly better than the one that comes with the Himalayan. So probably I could buy the Scram and not have to change anything on it right away. Obviously the tyres are probably not ideal for extreme off-road conditions, but I won't be riding in the mud or anything too tricky, I can choose when to ride and when to stay at home, the trails are all local. so I don't see that as a deal-breaker for me.
It sounds as though, for exploring dirt and gravel trails, close to where I live, the Scram could do it out of the box.
So well done, now I want one......the trick is how to pay for it 🤔 ?
Cheers, a very "helpful" video 😉

  • @markymarknj
    @markymarknj 2 роки тому

Just so you know, the center stand IS available on the Scram, but it's an option; it's not standard like it is on the Himalayan. I, for one, would choose that option! A center stand makes life so much easier with a chain driven bike.
As for the Scram itself, the 19" wheel gives it better handling on the street; turn-in is supposed to be better. The lack of a 21" wheel will really show itself when clearing obstacles. SO! I think that the Scram can indeed scramble... :)

They are not bringing 650 Himalayan cause the engine will make it already heavy bike in to too heavy for it's class.
So RE are doing 450 cc liquid cooled 30 to 45 bhp 35 to 50 nm of torque.
It's in testing phase with prototype so may take a year or two for it to release.

The suspension is actually stiffer. That's why the bike isn't bottoming out as much as the Himalayan. I did a back to back ride in the scram and Himalayan and the scram definitely felt a bit stiffer and more direct. The reduction in weight also helps.
The Achilles heel of the scram/him still are the brakes and the build quality. The service centre experience doesn't help much too. Also in India, this is on the pricier side. A very good bike nonetheless

To be fair there's some crazy price increases for shipping services and with all other associated costs going up I wouldn't be surprised if all bikes go up a good notch or two. CRF300L just jumped £500 for example.
