    Great video now subscribed! The Scram 411 looks cracking and a great little workhorse! Im considering one for a second bike in the garage …my primary ride is a Ducati 939 Supersport so this would be a great addition for the plod outs.

    Thank you for a great video. I enjoy your relaxed approach to reviewing motorcycles. I've been waiting for a UK review of the scram 411 as I quite fancy a small capacity single thumper as a second bike and your review has pretty much convinced me that the scram could well fit my requirements 👍

      Thanks David, and yes, for £4599 out the door, with a gear indicator, fuel gauge, bash plate, grab rail and oil cooler guard, it’s quite good really. Parts have started arriving, so I think it’ll be changing out those lovely orange indicator, putting on some risers and an alloy handlebar, some new mirrors, and then we’ll see. Heated grips before the autumn!

      @@allans7281 pretty much. Changes include 19” down from 21 for the front wheel, new dash, doesn’t have the big fairing or the high front side bars, doesn’t have the silly ‘beak’ at the front. New 1 piece seat. Frame, engine and rear suspension are the same. Front forks have 10cm less travel. On road, I think it’s a better bike to ride, particularly the steering with that smaller front wheel (but still the same as what you get on a BMW R1250GS, so not small). They are all fun to ride. I’m hoping to have a go on the Classic 350, though I expect it’ll be similar to the Meteor. The scram does have a bit more poke, but it’s still not a fast bike. The 650’s are great though and depending on what you’re coming from might be an easier step. Have fun!

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  2 роки тому

      Absolutely, though at the price point, are RE at the same level as Honda? In the UK a Himalayan is £4700 (I think?) and a CRF300 Rally is over £6000 (prices recently went up). Also the build quality on the Honda’s from Thailand leaves a little to be desired, so even that isn’t a fair comparison. Did you have two similar bikes in mind that compete where they cost approximately the same, but the Honda is of higher quality?

      Not sure how they are priced in Thailand, but over here, a 390 Duke is £5149 vs £4599 for the Scram. Not a lot but perhaps to cover the extra that you get with the 390. I’ve tried a 390 and though it has the better engine, I found it to be a bit small. The Scram has a feel of a bigger bike, even if it doesn’t go like one. And yes, 100% on the 511 🤣. How would you compare the scram to the 300 rally? I can't decide between the two

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  2 роки тому +2

      For a city bike that you can walk into a dealer and purchase, definitely the Scram. The suspension, ergonomics and comfort work really well on the road and you can get one. For a dual-sport/adventure trail bike, the 300 Rally is the better bike, but there’s a wait for them, and they are nearly 50% more expensive (the Scram is £4599 in the UK and the 300 is £6449, nearly £2k more). Also you can ride the Scram as it comes from the dealer and it works very well. The CRF improves a lot with upgraded suspension and bars. I guess it comes down to what you can get, how deep your pockets are, what you will use it for and ultimately the one you like the best. See if you can test ride both. If that doesn’t help, get both! 🤣

      Thanks, but so far I’ve had zero problems. When you say, not a good idea, please could you explain what you mean? It sounds like it’s a catastrophic way to treat a motorcycle so I’m curious to know your experience.

      @@PeakMotorcycles I accept that the running in procedure in the handbook my be extreme but the handbook for the hunter suggests keeping the speed below 44mph for the first 300 miles then increasing it to 50mph for the next 1250. It also suggests avoiding full throttle in the running in perion in any gear. Stuart Fillingham has produced an excellent video on running in. Does it make a difference long term? Who knows but I wouldn't risk ignoring the handbook.

      Same at the back. 10mm less at the front and smaller front wheel (19 vs 21) so the front end must be 2” lower?

    Must interesting to see your review of first impressions of the Scram. I did consider it, but on price, for what might be just a weight saving, yet not appreciable power gain, the lack of center stand, rev-counter etc.. really a stripped down Himalaya..
    I'll not part with my coming 1 year old 21 Euro4 Himalaya 20. which is the bench mark by design in it's own rights.
    Don't get me wrong the Scram will equally have it's market place and a similar following.. interestingly but not likely a just comparison would be to your Ducati Scrambler lest on size all-round.
    Peaks are a stunning area for sure, lovely to see the ride just for that vista. Cheers

      Thanks Dewi, I did consider a Himalayan, but there’s a lot of content out there already. I also have a CRF300 Rally, which sort of does the lightweight adventure bike thing, so I thought I’d get in early on the Scram and see what I can do with it. I can do a comparison with the Duc Scrambler. I’ll put it on the list.

    How does it handle on motorway's?

    • @PeakMotorcycles
      @PeakMotorcycles  2 роки тому

      Good question. I’ll need to find a motorway…. Update to follow. My guess is not a lot of wind protection, and it’ll do 70 and probably 80, it just won’t be very happy at motorway speeds.

      @@mikefarrell2405 I’m sure that’ll be fine. I’ll see if I can get out one evening and wind it up to speed on the A6 dual carriageway between Chapel and Whaley Bridge. I’ll let you know how it is. I guess it’d need to hold it for 20-25mins.

      It even says Himalayan on it. In fact from the bars backwards, other than the seat, I think it’s pretty much identical. I don’t think this is unusual though. Yamaha share the engine and much of the frame between the MT-07, XSR700, Tenere 700 and R7. Swingarms, forks and bodywork vary but it’s all the same platform, just as this is.
