I got so addicted to this game. My mum once got fed up and dragged me out shopping to an electronics retailer, and they had it set up on their PS2 so I just played it on that instead 😂

I feel like I caught the tail end of it as a kid. They were basically trial versions of the game to convince you to buy the full game, or if you were a kid they existed so you didn't bug your parents while they shopped... at least until you were in line or you got home and bugged them for the game.

It has been over a decade since Deathly Hallows 2 and we are only just now getting a Harry Potter RPG? There could have been multiple Quidditch World Cup sequels. I got this for gamecube and didnt understand it at all on my first time playing, but being a poor kid i valued any games I owned so I just let it sit on the shelf for a few years. One day when i had nothing else better to play, i popped it in and brought my team to win the quidditch world cup and have loved the game ever since

First I will say, I always did find the game to be too easy (when playing against the computer, im sure when playing against friends its much tougher, but i never had any of those haha) but i definetly love the game, the fantasy of progressing through the quidditch trials, flying around on a broom, the visual, and then just playing through the quidditch world cup to victory. definetly a fun game. they should make more.
I sadly never played this game growing up but I think it’s really neat they made a whole game centered around quidditch and gave you the option to play as National teams. Would be cool if they made a sequel one day
And hopefully change the scoring system, preferably to one where everything does not resolve around catching the snitch. I mean - 150 points??? In a sport where you get 10 for each successful attempt???
I'm really hoping Hogwart's Legacy really opens the doors to having a legit well made Quidditch game or Legacy gets many QoL updates that will include quidditch matches. One could hope ;)
I played the PC version when I was a kid, I realised that the ai couldn't handle charged passes rather quickly and managed to charge through to the world cup, so I never knew the game had special moves as the charged passes managed to outpace the ai teams speed and coordination, also the lightning effect it had was cool

This game is unironically the best sports game of the 2000s. Maybe even the best sports game ever, seeing since this genre transformed into a yearly new released gambling casino.

This game was certainly fun, but it suffered from the same problem as every other sports game. Once you've played it for half an hour, you've seen pretty much everything it has to offer.
Could the same not be said for racing games, fighting games, FPS, etc... these genres aren't about exploration and discovery, they're about mastery. Counter Strike doesn't care if you have seen the map 1000 times already, it only cares whether you are improving at the game. That's kinda the whole point is that nothing changes, you as the player need to improve rather than your character getting stronger. You have seen everything tetris has to offer within the first 15 seconds of gameplay, but I wouldn't consider that a problem that it suffers from. Harry Potter quidditch suffered from a lack of depth is all, had there been 1000s of small things to hone and improve built into the game, it would have a competitive scene and a thriving player base still. A good example of another GameCube game from the same time that did that successfully even though you get the jist of the gameplay very quickly is super smash bros melee. It doesn't suffer from being the same game every time you boot it up, that fact is a boon to the gameplay because it has such incredible mechanical depth.

I've played a lot of Quidditch World Cup in my time, and I've been quite critical of it, but this review helped me reign that in. Most of my criticism comes from the repetitive gameplay, but that's largely because you need to win the world cup with EVERY team in order to unlock all of the cards. When I compare this to other sports games that I love (like NBA Street) it's not too different. Get the ball, score some points, opponent gets the ball, steal it from them, and repeat. I suppose there could be better balance in this game. It's far too easy to steal the quaffle, and scoring is very easy too. There's still a lot of room for improvement, I think, but what this game does well it does really well. The animations, are awesome, and the detail that went into all of the different stadiums is pretty incredible too.

Played a lot of this game when I was a kid, was one of the first games I had for the PS2 and it was surprisingly fun so it stayed in my heavy rotation for quite awhile.
What I appreciate is that the game kind of adds more lore to the Harry Potter world, because not only does it show full games of Quidditch matches, but it also showcases teams of wizards who play the sport around the world, which is great since the Harry Potter movies mostly focus on Hogwarts and around London, but there should be wizards and mages pretty much all around the world.

Quidditch World Cup was a great time growing up. I definitely preferred the Prisoner of Askaban game, but this was a great alternative if I wanted to scratch that Potter itch. One thing you didn't mention that does slightly bring down the game imo is that the only apparent difference between teams is the potency of their special moves. Some only score 1 goal whereas others score 2 or more - I believe the highest is 4 iirc? This means certeain teams are just better than others, which isn't great for balance. Also, personally, whilst I agree that Queerditch Marsh isn't spectacular looking compared to some of the stadiums, I believe that's the point. It's the humble beginnings of the sport, and as a massive fan of the world back in the day it was a wonderful surprise to see it brought to life here. All in all a fun little time. Though no, I don't think it's the best HP game. It's up there though.

It is a great game to play with friends . They really tried their best , they could use quidditch segment from already existing games and simply add chareceters but fortunatly they didn't . Each team is unique with special movies and original charcters . Seems like they really enjoyed developing the game or at least were worried about quality .
I loved this game. This and SSX (specifically, SSX Tricky) were my games when I was a kid. I always thought a more modern approach to a quidditch game would actually be good. Different players with different agility, strength, or flying scores. Brooms that actually changed the pacing of the game etc.
This was a big part of my childhood, I played a couple of the movie tie in but this was the game I could play with ease. The mechanics are easy though repetitive at times and my only real big grip is the world cup felt a bit endless there seemed to be no real way to track your progress world cup felt like it took forever despite some really good gameplay.
I'll say this.... It was the only HP game I ever owned so it is my favorite by default. But that also means it was the only one I cared enough about to beg for as a gift in the first place. I'm talkin GBA here btw. Truly the alpha gaming console.

God, I remember back when I was 9 that this game was on my cousin's pc and everytime I'd go over to theirs for dinner, I'd end up spending the entire time playing it instead of hanging out with my cousins.

A Harry Potter trilogy focusing on a quidditch World Cup with like some sort of undercover spy twist would’ve been so legit looking at different wizard cultures like schools in the Middle East and france could be so cool
I 100%ed this game when I was a kid and uh I don't think I ever realized that passing raised the snitch meter. I always used to just score a bunch of goals, the AI was never particularly good even at the hardest difficulty, so every match I played ended at 300+ to 0
Me and my sister used to play this game together when we were young, I would control the keyboard and she would control the mouse. Great memories and an even better game!!
I was entertained enough by the GBA version to finish the Hogwarts section, but I never actually beat the World Cup mode. I think I was expecting the flashiness that was advertised in the flagship version. I think I'd like to give the console version a bash one day. Also, Double Dash over Sunshine. fite me irl

It's pretty good. A very fun and fairly faithful adaption of Quidditch! But is it better than Chamber of Secrets or Prisoner of Azkaban? ...Nah. Definitely on the higher end of things, though.
For its time it was amazing. It hid the sort of shallow gameplay with its art style, different locations and teams. I'd definitely let kids play it as one of their first PC games if they were HP fans.

Loved this game, thinking about getting a copy for Xmas now. Side note: half blood prince on ps3/360 is also underrated. It’s not the best HP game obv, but its a step up from OOTP and should get more credit for what it is: an enjoyable 10-12 hour Harry Potter game.
I got this to my Xbox and was so addicted to it, so I tell myself that I need to have this game to all platforms to enjoy the different environment of Harry Potter universe and I did collect them all. I love this game so much that I want a updated version with new countries in it.
Definitely want a sequel or remake of this game using modern technology. Had so much fun playing this when I was younger. I would have to say that it is indeed my favourite out of all the Harry Potter games in the PS2 era.

My issue with the game is the lack of difficulty options and how easy it is until you get to the later stages of the campaign

NBA street is a great comparison and I see why i liked those two games a lot as a kid, the gamebreaker move is kind of a golden snitch catch meanuever

They seriously missed out on making a new online quidditch game, we've had a brazillion nba and fifa games, there's surely a place in the market for a quidditch online game
It is a great game to play with friends . They really tried their best , they could use quidditch segment from already existing games and simply add chareceters but fortunatly they didn't . Each team is unique with special movies and original charcters . Seems like they really enjoyed developing the game or at least were worried about quality .
I loved this game. This and SSX (specifically, SSX Tricky) were my games when I was a kid. I always thought a more modern approach to a quidditch game would actually be good. Different players with different agility, strength, or flying scores. Brooms that actually changed the pacing of the game etc.
I used to play Chamber of Secrets and Quidditch World Cup all the time. Feeling very old now
This was a big part of my childhood, I played a couple of the movie tie in but this was the game I could play with ease. The mechanics are easy though repetitive at times and my only real big grip is the world cup felt a bit endless there seemed to be no real way to track your progress world cup felt like it took forever despite some really good gameplay.
It’s the only sports game I have ever liked to play. It’s such a big part of my childhood

I'll say this.... It was the only HP game I ever owned so it is my favorite by default. But that also means it was the only one I cared enough about to beg for as a gift in the first place. I'm talkin GBA here btw. Truly the alpha gaming console.

This was a pretty fun game,loved the special move cutscenes for the Wold Cup matches,always fun watching the Bulgarians just knock the shit out of the opposing team 😂
This game desperately needs a remake. I remember spending hours upon hours of my childhood playing this and it never stopped being fun.
You forgot to mention the insane opening cutscene every time you open the game. The song fired me up so hard!

My grandma got me this game on the original Xbox. I was probably 4/5. One of my favorite childhood games. They need to remake it!!

God, I remember back when I was 9 that this game was on my cousin's pc and everytime I'd go over to theirs for dinner, I'd end up spending the entire time playing it instead of hanging out with my cousins.
When I used to go to daycare as a kid they had pc’s during free time and one of the games there was this game and I fell in love with it and played it so much that everyone around me starting asking me for help on how to win games

I haven't seen you utilizing combo mechanics in the recorded gameplay. Combos really add depth to the whole gameplay
A Harry Potter trilogy focusing on a quidditch World Cup with like some sort of undercover spy twist would’ve been so legit looking at different wizard cultures like schools in the Middle East and france could be so cool
I 100%ed this game when I was a kid and uh I don't think I ever realized that passing raised the snitch meter. I always used to just score a bunch of goals, the AI was never particularly good even at the hardest difficulty, so every match I played ended at 300+ to 0
Those are rookie numbers. When I was a kid, me and my brother used to get over 1,000 before the snitch was even caught. 🤣
Me and my sister used to play this game together when we were young, I would control the keyboard and she would control the mouse. Great memories and an even better game!!
I was entertained enough by the GBA version to finish the Hogwarts section, but I never actually beat the World Cup mode. I think I was expecting the flashiness that was advertised in the flagship version. I think I'd like to give the console version a bash one day.

But is it better than Chamber of Secrets or Prisoner of Azkaban? ...Nah.

For its time it was amazing. It hid the sort of shallow gameplay with its art style, different locations and teams. I'd definitely let kids play it as one of their first PC games if they were HP fans.
This is still probably my favorite GBA of all time. No lie. 😊

Side note: half blood prince on ps3/360 is also underrated. It’s not the best HP game obv, but its a step up from OOTP and should get more credit for what it is: an enjoyable 10-12 hour Harry Potter game.
I got this to my Xbox and was so addicted to it, so I tell myself that I need to have this game to all platforms to enjoy the different environment of Harry Potter universe and I did collect them all. I love this game so much that I want a updated version with new countries in it.

I like that they had to figure out the visuals of the World Cup before the Goblet of Fire movie came out.
you should do Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1. That game had different versions across 11 or 12 different platforms.

Definitely want a sequel or remake of this game using modern technology. Had so much fun playing this when I was younger. I would have to say that it is indeed my favourite out of all the Harry Potter games in the PS2 era.
i remember being quite skeptical when i fisrt bought it, "how can it be fun if its only quidditch" but OH boy did i have a good time, i loved it, wish there was a modern one with online gameplay. wouldnt call it the best harry potter game, but an amazing spin off!

Loved this game. They really should do a remake with more teams, how they missed Ireland, who was one of the 2 finalists in The Quidditch World Cup in Goblet of Fire is beyond me 🙄
That's my only real gripe with the game. Otherwise, once you get the hang of it, the game is really fun.

This was literally my favorite game growing up as a kid. Asking my grandma to play and Hopping on her computer throwing in this game , Freddy fish , pajama Sam or backyard baseball. Rip meme. The memories forever live on. Every mourning was chocolate milk and wonder bread toast with I can’t believe it’s not butter margarine. 😢😢 miss those times.
Had it for gamecube, it was legitimately the only sports game i was willing to play.
