10-7-2023 Just completed my Stylo 6 port replacement after all repair stores said they couldn't get the parts and/or wouldn't install one that I ordered online. This video was perfect, clear, and the step-by-step commentary made it very simple. Thank you for saving my phone and my sanity.
Awesome! It's not so bad is it? And to be honest, parts aren't that hard to find. I think shops just don't want to because their markup would make most people walk away
That's really encouraging.! 👍 I DESPERATELY need to replace mine because it charges intermittently and once I get it to charge, I don't dare to even sneeze at it or it will stop charging! LOL! I love the LG Stylo line and I'm sad that Stylo 6 is the last one I'll ever have. May I ask where you purchased your new charging port and how much it cost? Is your Stylo 6 the US model with 64gb or the European model 128gb? I'm not sure if that makes a difference but mine is the US/64gb model. Anyway, any info you're willing to share would be much appreciated. Thanks!🙂
@@tlojewelryloveJust do a Google search for the charging port and choose the one with the write-up in the best English - I think mine came from NY. Most shops won't install parts that you bring in, so watch the whole video and decide that you will have to do the install yourself. The one I received had the miscellaneous plastic tools that were very necessary. The most uncomfortable part was heating the back to loosen the glue - but that step is very necessary to ensure that you don't put too much force on the back cover of the phone, and break it. The rest is fairly easy - just keep pausing and rewinding the video to ensure you don't miss anything. Good luck.
@tlojewelrylove Hello I'm in total agreement with you. I'm afraid to even move slightly because mine will stop charging. I absolutely love my phone 📱.
Your tutorial is excellent!👍 You are very clear and concise with your instructions and instill confidence by making it look so easy. You make me feel like I can do this without totally messing up my phone (provided I can purchase the correct replacement charging port). I don't have the tools to test the power afterwards nor the heat mat but I'm sure a regular heating pad would suffice. Thanks so for sharing this. I'll check your description to see if you provided a link to purchase the port. If not, could you please mention where to buy one. Thanks again! 🙂
I find the best tool to test after a charging port replacement is a charger! Trial by fire, if it works it works, if not you may or may not get magic smoke from the port but that's very rare. I use a heating mat only because it heats evenly and keeps my hands free to set up my camera, a heatgun or hair dryer would be fine tools instead. For replacement parts I usually head to Injured Gadgets or MobileSentrix! And thanks for the very kind comment, I'm sorry I didn't catch it sooner!
I've had several LG phones in the stylo series. one of the biggest problems I've found is the charging port on these phones are absolute shit. thanks to videos like yours they are a Breeze to fix and although I don't have a heating pad I do have the power of natural sunlight and I'm off to change yet another LG charging port. Thanks man
I loved the lg stylo phones! I have a five and a six. The screen on the six is shot (my daughter dropped it on ceramic tile) my five quit charging and that’s all that’s wrong with it. Would the charging port from the 6 fit the 5? Or should I just get a new screen and whatever that other thing is called behind the screen and change it out? As I said that’s the only problem and I want to fix it because I want to use it for streaming ❤
Sadly the parts aren’t compatible. But the good news is that LG parts are unbelievably cheap and available! You can get both the replacement screen for your 6 and the charging assembly for your 5 for less than $40!
I've actually got a link to a decent toolkit in the description, basically a small precision set will get you going as long as it has the unusual ones like pentalobes and triwing bits. As for the heating mat I haven't found a decent supplier but it is a generic "silicone soldering heated mat"
Just fyi for anyone following this it would be wise to go ahead and buy a whole new glass back. They are ridiculously cheap and if yours breaks you will wish you had one. Mine was broken already but it was a breeze buying one with the fingerprint reader already installed. That way you don't have to put on new adhesive its already attached
Soldering iron? No way, a hair dryer would be a much better choice. The bottle is 99% isopropyl alcohol, it helps loosen the adhesive. You can seal the back on using acrylic double sided tape.
❓Insight, please... I thought I commented after my repair yesterday but I don't see it. Anyway, thanks again for the help. I finally changed out my charging port without anything being broken so far EXCEPT for the fingerprint sensor.😩 I'm ok with it if that's the only thing broken. It never worked that great anyway but I'm very OCD about fixing things correctly (without destruction) so I was wondering if you could please share some insight on what I may have done to break it. Again, thanks so much! After 1+ year of charging problems, it's a joyous occasion to instantly see the charging indicator when I plug in the charging cable!👍😄
It is very difficult to break this one’s fingerprint reader, the only way I could see it happening is if the ribbon on the back glass is ripped somehow, or if the gold springs are somehow misaligned or there isn’t enough pressure on them. You could try gently pressing the back glass to the left of the fingerprint reader and seeing if it makes connection, if it does it just means those springs might be a little low. Otherwise I would open it up again and make sure the gold pads on the fingerprint reader have fallen out of their little tray, which is used to line it up with the gold springs on the board. Also check that those gold springs aren’t bent down (they should all look uniform with one another).
Yay! I fixed it! I had to take it apart again because it rebooted and hung up on the Metro PCS screen for almost 2 hours. Anyway, I took the back off and removed the screws, disconnected the battery, and observed the fingerprint sensor. I noticed it had clips on it and I had not pressed hard enough for those clips to catch and make contact. Now it works better than before. LOL! Hopefully it won't give me any more trouble for a while because, among other things, I love using LG's proprietary Quick Memo app to keep a check off list for paying my bills. I really like the way that app works and dread searching for another that's comparable because so far I haven't been able to find one comparable to that one. Anyway, I really, really appreciate all your help and the time that you spent responding to me. And... if nobody's told you today that you're awesome, you ARE awesome for sharing your knowledge and helping others. Have a great day! 😊
I don't know how to begin to fix my stylus 6 lg phone. I love my phone and it's my favorite. I've all of them. Though the charging port on 3 literally burned my whole phone. Luckily I got all my stuff saved on it. But I didn't stop using the LG's. Everything with my 6 is still working except the charging port. It appears that my charger doesn't click onto it or it has slowed down to the point where I need to wrap my charger around it to connect. I also lose battery really quickly.
When a port only works at weird angles it can only mean two things: you might have a ton of lint and dirt packed into the port itself that needs to be scraped out. or it could mean some pins are desoldered internally. Thankfully replacement ports are super cheap and easy to swap!
❓❓❓❓ May I please ask one more question.... Which one of the Tesa double-sided tapes do you use for this repair? ❓❓❓ There's sooooooo many Tesa options to choose from and I've researched until my head hurts and still can't figure out which one to buy. LOL! Again, much thanks in advance for your help! 😊
@@TapticDigital Awesome, thanks! I bought the B6000 glue with needle tip that you recommended but I was afraid I would make a total mess of my phone using it so I just now ordered the tape which will probably be a better option for ME to use and without making a mess. E-VEN-TUAL-LY... I will fix my phone. 😄 Thanks again for all your help!👍🙂
❓❓ Question Below...❓❓ Oct 24, 2023 - I found your links and bought the charging port and the $6 Hakko tweezers. Although you were very clear with your instructions, there's ONE VERY IMPORTANT ISSUE you didn't cover... ❓❓ HOW TO RE-SEAL THE BACK COVER?❓❓ Do I need some sort of glue or what do I need to do? Thank you very, very much in advance for your much-needed assistance! 👍😊
Awesome! 👍 My replacement port arrived today so thank you very much for the rapid response. I'll order one of the adhesive options you gave me. If you have an affiliate link to purchase any of the adhesives, I'd be happy to use it. Thanks again! 🙂
Hmmm.... that's interesting. I'm glad you mentioned that because I need to replace my port so I should probably do a little research into your problem in an attempt to prevent the same problem. I have no idea why that would happen. One would think charging ports for a particular model would all be the same but maybe there's ports with different charging speeds? I have no experience in that area but thanks again for mentioning it. 👍

@@TapticDigital absolutely thankfully I needed one anyways but loved the guide!
How to warm without heating pad. Can I use my iron on low covered with a towel? What was in the bottle, and how is it sealed back?

I do not have back camera only front. Also what to use to re-adhere the back?
Double sided tape is my weapon of choice. I use Tesa tape, very thin and very strong.

How long and what temp did you leave the phone on the heating mat?
I set the mat to about 55-60c and let it sit for about 2 minutes. A good rule of thumb is "almost too hot to hold"
