@@nupraptorthementalist3306 I love the backstory to this. In summary, the original was banned in the UK because it was vulgar, and was confiscated by police, making it a rarity. This is from their cover album Garage Inc that had songs like Whiskey In The Jar on it. The original song was by Anti Nowhere League, a punk band from the UK.
It came out before garage Inc the original release was on garage Days re-revisited in the late eighties.. it was the first album with Jason Newsted on bass.
This song got Metallica banned from MTV after they played it and "Last Caress live at the 1996 European Music Awards, the band were told no pyro and no expletives so instead of playing "King Nothing" they rebelled epicly lol
You guys should do live Google research after the song. Metallica also trolled the MTV Europe Music Awards in 1996 by playing “So What” and “Last Caress” live when they were supposed to play “King Nothing”. MTV Europe banned them for a few years afterward.
This is a cover of the band Anti Nowhere League how are one of the best punk bands to come out of the UK & ARE STILL TOURING TODAY it is Metallica taken from the cover album Garage Inc
We need to introduce them to the Bridge School benefit shows too, there's a lot of interesting acoustic versions of heavy songs, and odd covers like Dire Straits Brothers In Arms.
Yes it is them. It is a cover from a band called the anti nowhere league I think. It was recorded at the same time as the black album James threw his voice out recording it. They don’t play it live anymore because the shows are more of the family atmosphere these days in the 90s and early 2000s they brought this out as an encore every now and then.
This is a cover from a punk band they did a whole album of covers. One in the 80s and this one in the 90s. They released a new side of covers on one disc and disc two is from the original Garage Days covers. 80s album was The $5.98 E.P. - Garage Days Re-Revisited. The 90s one was Garage, Inc. You get both on the latter as a double CD.
I was in the Marines when I first heard this in 1991-ish when a friend of mine returned from Okinawa after being overseas. This was a bonus track on the Japanese import version of the "Black Album".
holy crap. one of the best reactions in a while...the looks on your faces lol. I had forgotten about this one until now. I first heard it back in the late 80's in the football locker room
1000 percent Metallica. This is the truest form of Metallica. It's a cover of one of the bands that they and true metal heads have followed since day one. Shows their inspirations. Raw punk/metal. This is the Metallica I love.
I went to see Metallica in the famous Glasgow Barrowlands venue (Scotland 🏴) in 1996. They just released the Load album. James walks out and shouts into the mic “So Fucking What” and away we went 😂
Fab cover song. I can't recall which single B-Side it was for but def off the Black album. You can see the band playing this song in the studio at the very end of the "A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica Pt2".
I've been waiting for this, lol. Metallica (in their storied career) has covered many songs, this, of course being one of them. My favorite though: "Breadfan" by Budgie. Metallica opened with it when I saw them in 1994. I don't think you guys have done that one yet. 🤘
They did an album back then where they covered their influences.. and then later they re released that album, but as a two album deal... "Garage days" ... with more covers. You can listen Motorhead, King Diamond, Black Sabbath and Queen... and the infamous Am I Evil that they did in the Big Four. One of the songs was Tuesdays Gone... where they played with some of the audioners to replace Newsted... Pepper Keenan from Corrosion Of Conformity was there, and also Les Claypool from Primus.
You surely know Les Claypool.... but Pepper Keenan is one of the most groviest guitarists... you could check "Long Whip/Big America" from Corrosion Of Conformity.... I think part of them went with Phil Anselmo to form Down... another super group.
Oh it's 💯!!! A cover of the band Anti Nowhere League. They recorded it during the Black album recordings. And it's also the song that he absolutely blew his voice out on. He never sang the same after and began doing vocal warm ups from then on.
They were playing this anti nowhere league cover on tour in 91 and 92, live version was on live shit binge and purge, this studio version was on garage inc.
Metallica have done this live with animal the singer of The Anti-Nowhere League who come from Royal Tunbridge Wells in the UK. Here is the link ua-cam.com/video/Mk0d-_G6G1w/v-deo.html
I saw this update and instantly clicked and started laughing cause I knew yall were going to be rolling because of the lyrics 😂 they performed this tv instead of the song they were supposed to do once and caught a ban lol. Badass Sabbath shirt btw bro
It's a cover song. The original artist is the band Anti-Nowhere League from 1981. All of the songs on Metallica's two "Garage Days" records are cover songs. A lot of those songs were also B sides of their singles, back when people actually bought singles.
I get the blind reaction part, but afterwards instead of all the guessing and speculation about what a song was about, would it kill y’all to Google ? It would be nice to see you understand in real time
A cover of an Anti Nowhere League song. They were a punk band from the south coast of England. It always amused me to hear American millionaires sing "I've been to Brighton, I've been to Eastbourne...". Eastbourne is a sleepy little seaside town on the south coast of England, famous for retirees. Think the English equivalent of Key West.
I remember when I heard this, Metallica not known for swearing or using foul language, so when I first heard this I was taken aback but I liked the unapologetic filthyness this is🤘🏻
yeah this is a classic one off. Another odd one off the Garage Days is Breadfan. It's another punk cover that was a side B on a single and it's awesome and unique.
The funniest rendition of this is live at the MTV Europe Music Awards 😂 They were supposed to go do their latest single "King Nothing", but instead they got bored & James said, "let's go wake this place this up", and the rest is history. As for me making a song suggestion after this, how about Ben Folds rendition of Bitches Ain't Shit?
I know a thousand people have already said it but "So What" is a cover. They often did covers. Some so well people are shocked to learn they were covers. "Garage Days" and "Garage Days Revisited" are nothing but covers. "So What" was a B-side for the "Sad But True" single off the Black album. Fun fact, I'm so old that I actually have that single on cassette.
in middle school, i didn't have headphones for my phone, so i pressed shuffle on my liked songs on spotify and out loud in science class there was a super loud "SO F-ING WHAT!?" and my teacher was NOT happy lmfao
Cover of Anti-Nowhere League UK PUNK Band and this song was a bonus from the black album from Japan if not mistaken, their fisrt punk band cover was from The Misfits - Last Caress/Green Hell from The Garage Days Re-Revisited EP 1987 check this one too some pretty nice lyrics.
I own the Sad but True single this is the b side on and i bought it in a store back in the 90's. 100%real cover of a song by The Anti Nowhere League a relatively unknown UK first wave punk act.
Ooh Jesus 😂😂😂 I almost spit out my lunch ! They actually performed this and Last caress at the MTV European music awards in the late 90s. It hasn’t aired since.. They were supposed to perform King nothing but MTV told them that they cannot use Pyro or swear during their performance. my first experience with this song was on garage days around 98/99 i dont remember. i know i was stoked because garage days was a rare album only like 100k were made or some shit like that.
It's 100% real! It's a cover they did. Look up the live version on the cunning stunts dvd
I was hoping that's what they were doing.

For sure! Also with Slayer and their Undisputed Attitude album.
This is from their cover album Garage Inc that had songs like Whiskey In The Jar on it. The original song was by Anti Nowhere League, a punk band from the UK.
It first appeared as the B side to The Unforgiven
@@TheBlackQueen that's also correct

The look on your faces 😂😂😂 priceless

The Exploited and Discharge are better, heavier, faster and more influencial.

Actually this was around way before Garage inc.
Mr body was killed in the hall with the candlestick😅
It originally appeared on the Japanese version of The Black Album as the 13th song

They loved this cover song so much they named their fan club magazine after it.
