It's 100% real! It's a cover they did. Look up the live version on the cunning stunts dvd
I was hoping that's what they were doing.
Cover of what?
@@nupraptorthementalist3306 this song. It's a cover from an old punk band called the anti nowhere league.
@barrypatton6424 Thanks, never knew.
@@nupraptorthementalist3306 I love the backstory to this.
In summary, the original was banned in the UK because it was vulgar, and was confiscated by police, making it a rarity.
Metallica loved the story and thought they’d give it a new lease on life, and the attention that they thought it truely deserved.
This is from their cover album Garage Inc that had songs like Whiskey In The Jar on it. The original song was by Anti Nowhere League, a punk band from the UK.
It first appeared as the B side to The Unforgiven
@@TheBlackQueen that's also correct
@@TheBlackQueen Sad but True single. Unforgiven had Killing Time as a B-side.
Also played it live on MTV because the network pissed them off and got themselves banned.
It came out before garage Inc the original release was on garage Days re-revisited in the late eighties.. it was the first album with Jason Newsted on bass.
Metallica is huge into punk. They've covered several punk songs over the years.
For sure! Also with Slayer and their Undisputed Attitude album.
This song got Metallica banned from MTV after they played it and "Last Caress live at the 1996 European Music Awards, the band were told no pyro and no expletives so instead of playing "King Nothing" they rebelled epicly lol
Rule #1 Don't tell James not to Cuss 😂.
That's the legend built up around that performance but it's bullshit. They weren't banned. It was European MTV and they didn't even care.
I remember that. Lol
All image & phoney attitude …makes up for their lack of musical talent?
@@realscience948 MTV thought they were worthy of appearing at one of their major events
The look on your faces 😂😂😂 priceless
“He fornicated with a sheep bro”
😂😂😂 laughed so hard I think I pulled a muscle 😂❤
And a goat.
You guys should do live Google research after the song.
Metallica also trolled the MTV Europe Music Awards in 1996 by playing “So What” and “Last Caress” live when they were supposed to play “King Nothing”.
MTV Europe banned them for a few years afterward.
Yeah I remember that! Hahaha that was EPIC!!
They tried to tell them what to play and paid the price lol
Another priceless Metallica moment in history!
I came here looking for this. Thank you for posting.. saved me the trouble lol.
It is 100% Metallica! It was so cool having this song to blast at the stuffy people! It's in your face and I love it! 🤘😁👍
Same here! 🤘🤘
Yep and last caress was a good one to play loud out in public back in the day! Take that stuffy people!
This is Metallica covering an Anti Nowhere League song, who are a British punk band
Finally someone got that right
the song is about things they heard people say in a bar basically and someone being llike "so what" when they are hear those things
This is a cover of the band Anti Nowhere League how are one of the best punk bands to come out of the UK & ARE STILL TOURING TODAY it is Metallica taken from the cover album Garage Inc
The Exploited and Discharge are better, heavier, faster and more influencial.
Now watch the live version, ihr klein Wichser
Actually this was around way before Garage inc.
Mr body was killed in the hall with the candlestick😅
It originally appeared on the Japanese version of The Black Album as the 13th song
Ok now you guys MIGHT be ready for Last Caress :P
They loved this cover song so much they named their fan club magazine after it.
"Mama said "is the one country type of song of the Load album
Good song too.
We need to introduce them to the Bridge School benefit shows too, there's a lot of interesting acoustic versions of heavy songs, and odd covers like Dire Straits Brothers In Arms.
Yes it is them. It is a cover from a band called the anti nowhere league I think. It was recorded at the same time as the black album James threw his voice out recording it. They don’t play it live anymore because the shows are more of the family atmosphere these days in the 90s and early 2000s they brought this out as an encore every now and then.
As soon as I saw the title I knew this was going to be good.
Great reaction guys!
I remember having the album this song was on when I was a teenager. I think it's on Garage Inc. Also, it's a cover song
So what?
6:14 Yes, this IS Metallica. James blew out his throat while recording, so he started to do vocal exercises.
This is a cover from a punk band they did a whole album of covers. One in the 80s and this one in the 90s. They released a new side of covers on one disc and disc two is from the original Garage Days covers.
80s album was The $5.98 E.P. - Garage Days Re-Revisited.
The 90s one was Garage, Inc. You get both on the latter as a double CD.
People have mentioned the live version that did on MTV, I watched that live and it blew my mind... you need to find it, it was unbelievable
There was an awards show that kept pushing them to play Enter Sandman. It pissed them off. They went out and played this.
um, close enough i guess
Haha no not close at all
Wow!! Didn't think this would be allowed on UA-cam!!!
I've heard this before!!! Have it on cd!!
When I first heard it, my face was the same as you guys!!!
holy crap. one of the best reactions in a while...the looks on your faces lol. I had forgotten about this one until now. I first heard it back in the late 80's in the football locker room
This has been a great song for decades
Your reaction was hilarious! Love you dudes so much!
That's how you start an Anti Nowhere League song! Cover version, where the original is the best. Thanks for the reaction.
Omg I haven’t heard this song in a long time! Thanks for the walk down memory lane guys!
I totally popped when I saw they were doing this song lol ! I was like oh boy , this should be a fun reaction ! I loved this cover since way back !
i remember having the cassette single of this song, loved their version of it too.
I saw this update and instantly clicked and started laughing cause I knew yall were going to be rolling because of the lyrics 😂 they performed this tv instead of the song they were supposed to do once and caught a ban lol. Badass Sabbath shirt btw bro
Glorious poetry from Metallica
When I saw them live in 97 they opened with and it went hard. Set the scene for an insane concert.
I was in the Marines when I first heard this in 1991-ish when a friend of mine returned from Okinawa after being overseas. This was a bonus track on the Japanese import version of the "Black Album".
1000 percent Metallica. This is the truest form of Metallica. It's a cover of one of the bands that they and true metal heads have followed since day one. Shows their inspirations. Raw punk/metal. This is the Metallica I love.
This is indeed Metallica. We rocked this shit back in the day. Punk cover though not written by them.
They did this live on MTV in 1996 after being told no pyro and not to swear among other things. Look that up and watch it 😂 it's amazing
Yes definitely Metallica. I saw them live back in the 90’s and they played this song in concert. Soooo cool
Fab cover song. I can't recall which single B-Side it was for but def off the Black album. You can see the band playing this song in the studio at the very end of the "A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica Pt2".
I think it was Nothing Else Matters, which is hilarious considering how many non-metal fans loved that song and bought the single 😂
I think this was the most excited I've been for a reaction lol. Now you must watch them perform this live for mtv.
Lyrically, this is probably one of the most FUNNIEST songs I ever HEARD! 😂
💯% Metallica! Anti Nowhere League! It’s a song guys…deep breath!!
This was introduced to me back in the day when thier box set live shit binge and purge in the early 80s
Oh it's 💯!!! A cover of the band Anti Nowhere League. They recorded it during the Black album recordings. And it's also the song that he absolutely blew his voice out on. He never sang the same after and began doing vocal warm ups from then on.
It's a cover song. The original artist is the band Anti-Nowhere League from 1981. All of the songs on Metallica's two "Garage Days" records are cover songs. A lot of those songs were also B sides of their singles, back when people actually bought singles.
I just want to say i love yall i look forward to watching two dudes watching a video
I've been waiting for this, lol.
Metallica (in their storied career) has covered many songs, this, of course being one of them. My favorite though: "Breadfan" by Budgie. Metallica opened with it when I saw them in 1994. I don't think you guys have done that one yet. 🤘
I went to see Metallica in the famous Glasgow Barrowlands venue (Scotland 🏴) in 1996. They just released the Load album. James walks out and shouts into the mic “So Fucking What” and away we went 😂
The song is originally done by The Anti-Nowhere League
This is one of Metallica's most legendary covers and fan favorites of the garage inc album which was a cover album of the bands that inspired them
It is 1000% REAL & they even played it live when i saw them in 2017, it was brilliant ha! Its a cover from a 70's punk band.
Its real !! I saw Metallica perform this at their Lollapalooza 1996 show in Chandler, Arizona. It was their opener and it fuckin rocked.
This was originally released on Garage Days and later re released on Garage Inc. in 1998.
They did an album back then where they covered their influences.. and then later they re released that album, but as a two album deal... "Garage days" ... with more covers. You can listen Motorhead, King Diamond, Black Sabbath and Queen... and the infamous Am I Evil that they did in the Big Four. One of the songs was Tuesdays Gone... where they played with some of the audioners to replace Newsted... Pepper Keenan from Corrosion Of Conformity was there, and also Les Claypool from Primus.
You surely know Les Claypool.... but Pepper Keenan is one of the most groviest guitarists... you could check "Long Whip/Big America" from Corrosion Of Conformity.... I think part of them went with Phil Anselmo to form Down... another super group.
Anti Nowhere League is one of my all time favorite punk bands... you guys need to do more punk please.
This take me back to the Alpine Stereo days Thumping this down the block pissing off the neighborhood 😂😂
Metallica always picks interesting songs to cover - this one is the most controversial one though 😂
Great choice of song to react to. So fucking what. 🤘🤘🤘. This song is of The Garage inc Lp
They performed this song along with "last caress" on MTV Europe and got banned for life
Metallica have done this live with animal the singer of The Anti-Nowhere League who come from Royal Tunbridge Wells in the UK. Here is the link ua-cam.com/video/Mk0d-_G6G1w/v-deo.html
this was Metallica's opening song on the LOAD tour and it 100% them performing this cover.
What are you guys doing !?!??! There's 2 new manson songs!! Theres all these small reaction channels doing them but I've been waiting on you guys!!;
Now we need last caress!! I remember getting a garage inc that had like 5 songs on it way back in the day!
I remember when I heard this, Metallica not known for swearing or using foul language, so when I first heard this I was taken aback but I liked the unapologetic filthyness this is🤘🏻
garage days was the first ever CD i bought in my life.
Oh ya, haven’t cranked this tune up in years lol.
They were playing this anti nowhere league cover on tour in 91 and 92, live version was on live shit binge and purge, this studio version was on garage inc.
A cover of an Anti Nowhere League song. They were a punk band from the south coast of England. It always amused me to hear American millionaires sing "I've been to Brighton, I've been to Eastbourne...". Eastbourne is a sleepy little seaside town on the south coast of England, famous for retirees. Think the English equivalent of Key West.
Live version in Cunning Stunts is awesome n hilarious. Punk/Metal band Anti-Nowhere League wrote this song
LOVING the Sabbath shirt brother!!!!!! Greatest band of all time IMO
Roflmao them not knowing what this is was hillarious 😂
This is a cover. The original song is by one of the OG British punk bands name Anti Nowhere League. Metallica even got banned on MTV bcs they performed a show for them on live TV and although they were asked to not swear and use F word bcs well, it was a live stream, they changed their setlist and played this song instead and gave a middle finger to MTV.
this is important !! info
in middle school, i didn't have headphones for my phone, so i pressed shuffle on my liked songs on spotify and out loud in science class there was a super loud "SO F-ING WHAT!?" and my teacher was NOT happy lmfao
oh it's real. and Michael Kamen actually wanted to do this for the original S&M show.
I know a thousand people have already said it but "So What" is a cover. They often did covers. Some so well people are shocked to learn they were covers. "Garage Days" and "Garage Days Revisited" are nothing but covers. "So What" was a B-side for the "Sad But True" single off the Black album. Fun fact, I'm so old that I actually have that single on cassette.
Definitely real. James actually blew out his voice recording this song.
yeah this is a classic one off. Another odd one off the Garage Days is Breadfan. It's another punk cover that was a side B on a single and it's awesome and unique.
I guess you guys feel as if you've been Punk'd...lol😆😛
The song was written, according to the band, after sitting in a pub one night and hearing two men try to outdo each other with stories of past experiences. The song is therefore a retort to people who tell embellished (lie) stories to make themselves to appear better than the person they are in conversation with. FunFact: The obscene lyrical content of the song caused the British police to seize all copies of the single from the band's distributors under the "Obscene Publication Act" and remove all copies from sale. hahaha🤭 (That's just CRAZY) 😂Anyway, this was hilariously fun. Thanks for this one. And as always, I enjoyed rocking with you fellas. Thanks for sharing. peace out~
it’s part of garage days album. brilliance
you have to do a goat at the edge of a cliff because it looks down, gets frightened, and pushes back🐐
Not a lot of people know that Metallica were HUGE into punk rock before they made it big
It's a legit cover they did. Garage Inc is full of covers of bands that influenced them
Twisted insane underground psycho please
100% real. From garage days, inc.
Its a 2 album cover catalog. It has this, turn the page, loverman, stone cold crazy and many more
my first experience with this song was on garage days around 98/99 i dont remember. i know i was stoked because garage days was a rare album only like 100k were made or some shit like that.
Morning guys! Yup! It's real! It's a cover song! Lol. Your reaction was priceless! Some crazy sh*t in this song...lol😂
Totally real!!!
I always thought the solo sounded like the 'Saved by the Bell' theme lol
Yes it is Metallica. This was a cover they did during the Black Album sessions. It was originally recorded by the Anti Nowhere League.
Google it, it's a cover that they did, they first (that I can remember) sung this song live in 1992
It’s a faithful cover, not parody or satire. If it were something of their own…It would be the best thing they’ve written in 35 years.
You should watch their performance in MTV Europe Music Awards of this song + Last Caress
THE ANTI KNOWHERE LEAGUE 💥💥💥 I've been lucky to have seen twice here in aotearoa New Zealand 💥💥💥 Metallica X4
Yea this is off their Garage Inc. Days they did covers of different bands
Worth a reaction to the entire Garage Inc double album, the whole thing is covers and a lot of them are punk songs.
Metallica did a bunch of covers on the Garage Inc albums. They even covered Motorheads song Damage Case.
its originally a song by the Anti Nowhere League who are a uk Punk band.
Pretty much the most offensive thing you can play. And it ROCKS SO HARD.
😂 Best reaction I have seen in awhile
I own the Sad but True single this is the b side on and i bought it in a store back in the 90's. 100%real cover of a song by The Anti Nowhere League a relatively unknown UK first wave punk act.
06:07 sounds like a normal system of a down lyrics lol
Great reaction.
Ooh Jesus 😂😂😂
I almost spit out my lunch !
They actually performed this and Last caress at the MTV European music awards in the late 90s. It hasn’t aired since.. They were supposed to perform King nothing but MTV told them that they cannot use Pyro or swear during their performance. Even though they use Pyro during rehearsal …After the 92 Montreal debacle if James says Pyro is OK dammit Pyro is OK.🔥🔥🔥🔥
And it’s a cover of a punk song
