I rarely comment on vids but will here. You've done MUCH better with this video than other who produce tech vids. You filled in gaps, those little bits of info that many people just skip over. You took the time to notice those little things and comment on them. You did this in both of your vids. Really, this is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Ssd location does matter. Main drive sata vs optical bay speeds are different. If you want real performace, you want to swap the ssd to main drive and the hdd to the optical bay.
A very clear presentation and the fact that you identify issues such as caddy depth, Etc. with clear descriptions of everythign is wonderful. Very much appreciated.
2:03 If you don't trust your own measuring abilities, you can also google the type mentioned on the drive. There will be atleast 1 site mentioning it's dimensions. (though >3mm is hard to overlook measuring) 4:07 That's called a "bezel", for the ones who want to know. (You're welcome...) Optical Drives aren't used very often anymore anyway, so why not upgrade with let's say 1TB or 2TB. Harddisk and SSD prices are low these days. In some cases the optical drive even needs to be cleaned from dust inside, yes inside :S. I know i am replacing mine, in my HP Omen, with an SSD. The external optical drive is faster anyway, for some reason. Optical drives barely, or not at all, exceed USB3.0 speeds, while SSD can perform better connected directly to the motherboard. HP will suggest to not use a caddy, but external HDD instead. But they have it the other way around.
Quick question. Does having the SSD in the caddy make that much of a difference in read/write speed compared to as when it is placed in main drive slot?
This is the most productive & professional video. You told us to check the laptop. Because all Laptop are different. You set out first. By telling the easy way. This has been very helpful to me. Wouldn't you technically be able to do the software transfer after the 2nd hard drive is installed with the caddy rather than doing the software transfer before using a slow USB link?
Hi EasyTechs!! I find your video very informative. I had a HDD which I cloned and replaced with an SSD. I now want to swap my Optical drive with the old HDD, which still has the OS and all the old files still on it. Do I have to format my old HDD before swapping with the optical drive?
Amazing video. Can I ask, is it possible to transfer my OS and files to my new SSD 'AFTER' fitting it in the caddy/optical drive bay? Or it it absolutely essential to make the transfer first externally?
Thanks for your very informative videos! One quick question: is there any difference in placing the SSD in the optical drive bay and keep the HDD in its place? Or do you recommend to set up the SDD always in the hard drive slot? Thanks!
The optical drive slot is SATA 2, which is faster than hdd but not fast enough for ssd. The original hard drive slot is SATA 3, which is also slower than ssd but it is faster than sata2.

No brother you can use ssd in both cases, but because DVD drive is of SATA II and main hard disk bay is of SATA III , it is recommended to use in hard disk bay but, in both the cases the speed of ssd will be the same, I would recommend you in optical bay because in hard disk bay there are motion sensors of hard disk, 👍✌😄

People for have a problem of speed with this method , on you"re HDD there are little pin just on the left of the sata port , that mean that you're hard drive need to be pluged on the main place and put the ssd on the caddy

Hey, i just installed a new HP SSD on the main spot(where was the hdd before), but without putting in the caddy, cause my laptop does not see the caddy idk why. After installation, i put in the caddy, and the win 10 boots around 3 minutes, but the caddy is not there in the files. What can i do sir? I have know idea. I tried all day for 3 days now...
Thanks. I already bought 9.5mm instead of 12.7mm. but it's working fine.
Hi, I facing an issue.I replacing my HDD with new SSD and plan to put new SSD in harddisk bay while the old HDD in caddy. When I boot up my laptop, I can see the HDD in boot menu but I cannot see the HDD in disk management after my laptop finish boot up.
That's cool! I've got an ASUS similar to the one in the video. I'd like to add a third drive. Does the optical drive use the same SATA ports as a SSD/HDD? If the optical drive is different, what type of port is it? Is the port used by the optical drive slower than a SATA port?
The idiot liked your comment, but doesn't even answer your question. I have the same question.
hello can you answer me . Does your external gpu works in 2021 please answer me fast ;-;
Hello , please i want to adding an SSD to my laptop with the caddy , i want to migrate my operating system (:C drive) in the SSD and keeping the data of (:D drive) i want to use the 2 hard drive (SSD like :C drive and HDD like :D drive) , what i do ?
and another question , if i havn't a Usb Sata cable , can i adding the SSD first then do the migrate , possible or no ?
People for have a problem of speed with this method , on you"re HDD there are little pin just on the left of the sata port , that mean that you're hard drive need to be pluged on the main place and put the ssd on the caddy
If we have a HDD preinstalled and we want to install SSD. So can we transfer our boot up files after putting the SSD in hard drive through caddy.
