I rarely comment on vids but will here. You've done MUCH better with this video than other who produce tech vids. You filled in gaps, those little bits of info that many people just skip over. You took the time to notice those little things and comment on them. You did this in both of your vids. Really, this is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
A very clear presentation and the fact that you identify issues such as caddy depth, Etc. with clear descriptions of everythign is wonderful. Very much appreciated.
Ssd location does matter. Main drive sata vs optical bay speeds are different. If you want real performace, you want to swap the ssd to main drive and the hdd to the optical bay.
This is the most productive & professional video. You told us to check the laptop. Because all Laptop are different. You set out first. By telling the easy way. This has been very helpful to me. I have an old laptop. A Lenovo W500 that runs windows 10. It runs ok for now. But I know it could be better. Well you know what I will be doing next. You sir have a new subscriber. Thank you very much. Keep up the great work.
I wish I find your chanel before it would save me a lot of work, i bought the larger one so I got to cut the adaptor so it could fit on my laptop I'm glad it worked... But you have a nice chanel gonna follow you now on

Thank you very much, my laptop's SATA port died and I've been running Windows portably through USB 3, this is a great solution since my laptop has no warranty (I got it for free since the previous owner deemed it hopeless)
Great video, thank you for making it and sharing it with us. All my parts have arrived to to this mod so I found your video really straight forward to follow. Before I start I do need to understand how I can clone my current drive onto my Caddy with a new SSD in so that the faster SSD will be my primary drive for the laptops functionality. Then I can use my slower HDD for other file storage, so I have a bit more research to do before I start. Kind regards. Paul from 48-SPOKES (UK)
2:03 If you don't trust your own measuring abilities, you can also google the type mentioned on the drive. There will be atleast 1 site mentioning it's dimensions. (though >3mm is hard to overlook measuring) 4:07 That's called a "bezel", for the ones who want to know. (You're welcome...) Optical Drives aren't used very often anymore anyway, so why not upgrade with let's say 1TB or 2TB. Harddisk and SSD prices are low these days. In some cases the optical drive even needs to be cleaned from dust inside, yes inside :S. I know i am replacing mine, in my HP Omen, with an SSD. The external optical drive is faster anyway, for some reason. Optical drives barely, or not at all, exceed USB3.0 speeds, while SSD can perform better connected directly to the motherboard. HP will suggest to not use a caddy, but external HDD instead. But they have it the other way around.
Wouldn't you technically be able to do the software transfer after the 2nd hard drive is installed with the caddy rather than doing the software transfer before using a slow USB link?
Hi EasyTechs!! I find your video very informative. I had a HDD which I cloned and replaced with an SSD. I now want to swap my Optical drive with the old HDD, which still has the OS and all the old files still on it. Do I have to format my old HDD before swapping with the optical drive?
Quick question. Does having the SSD in the caddy make that much of a difference in read/write speed compared to as when it is placed in main drive slot?
Amazing video. Can I ask, is it possible to transfer my OS and files to my new SSD 'AFTER' fitting it in the caddy/optical drive bay? Or it it absolutely essential to make the transfer first externally?
Great video and made a decision to buy. I installed SSD in primary and HDD in optical caddy. Both are working fine. But the HDD is working slow. The transfer rate, opening a folder in HDD is very slow.....any suggestions???
Thank you for this idea. 1. Can I do clean install of Windows 11 to the ssd and use the old hdd as my storage drive? 2. Is it okay to just use 120gb ssd to install the Windows OS there?
Thanks for your very informative videos! One quick question: is there any difference in placing the SSD in the optical drive bay and keep the HDD in its place? Or do you recommend to set up the SDD always in the hard drive slot? Thanks!
The optical drive slot is SATA 2, which is faster than hdd but not fast enough for ssd. The original hard drive slot is SATA 3, which is also slower than ssd but it is faster than sata2.
People for have a problem of speed with this method , on you"re HDD there are little pin just on the left of the sata port , that mean that you're hard drive need to be pluged on the main place and put the ssd on the caddy

Hi I want to add my old laptop’s hdd to my new laptop’s optical drive bay which I found is 12.7 mm type. But the problem I am facing now is that my old hdd is of serial ata 150 type. So will it work? And where can I get a caddy with sata 150 connectors?

Wouldn't you technically be able to do the software transfer after the 2nd hard drive is installed with the caddy rather than doing the software transfer before using a slow USB link?

Thanks for this tutorial.
Btw, what will happen if I'm using that hard drive then I pop open the slot?
Nothing since there is way to 'pop' it open. the caddy is a tray. It doesn't have any mechanism to "open" like the DVD drive did.
I'm in the process of upgrading my old laptop. The optical disk drive is not working properly. This is a great way to use the wasted space. Thank you
First of all, thank you for the video. What is the easiest way to make sure you get an optical drive bay tray that matches your current HDD or SSD?
Thanks for your very informative videos!
One quick question: is there any difference in placing the SSD in the optical drive bay and keep the HDD in its place? Or do you recommend to set up the SDD always in the hard drive slot? Thanks!

thanks again for the very informative video! :D
What will be the difference in performance while placing ssd in caddy or in the main sata where there is hard drive
Optical drive speed is slower than sata drive
Do caddy has an indicator light just like dvd drive?
Is there a chance that it won't fit to some laptop? Like the outer case part didn't match or some screws didn't match?
Thanks sir its very useful video
