I've finally figured out how to shallow the shaft after viewing one of your more recent videos about the angle of the trail arm. You correctly point out with visual evidence that the trail elbow loses flexion early in the downswing. By keeping that angle fixed at 90, it guarantees that an OTT move will be necessary in order to strike the ball. But by beginning to extend the arm, the shaft automatically lowers while the clubhead stays behind the golfer. I've heard the advice " pretend you are pulling an arrow from a quiver on your back" to describe the feeling. I suppose golfers who feel they are ringing a bell have the same feel. But it's not a direct downward move. The handle moves away from the target, widening the swing. At some point the torso begins to turn while being pulled by the hips, but by now the shaft has shallowed to the point that the clubhead moves from inside the target line at the ball. A benefit is that the trail wrist increases its extension and the lead wrist bows, all without conscious effort, which squares the club face. I'm sure other things are happening but this is the essence. Probably really good golfers learned to swing like this, while I and the 99% of the world who swing OTT have always started the swing with shoulders turning and kept our trail elbow flexed all the way down. Am I off base in this description? I'm getting good results.
Man... I just discovered your content today and I'm a little mind blown. I've really resonated with what I have seen, specifically on shallowing and rotation. I can't wait to try these things. But I'm wondering, why are so many professional teachers teaching different things? Like I said, I'm really resonating with your stuff and it seems right, just frustrating so many others are teaching something different.

Don’t get me wrong, I love watching all of the golf instruction videos on UA-cam however, this is the only instruction I actually trust and truly implement there’s something to be said about the data the research in the body motion that you guys take the time to study that shows through in your instruction thank you so much!

Gentlemen: Wow - blowing my mind. Exactly what I needed to see... Question: There are players who start steep and end steep but are on plane, and there are players who start steep and end shallow. Is it more important to maintain your plane (even if it's steep back and through) or more important to change planes to shallow to ball on downswing? I ask for this reason. I've been playing for 4 years and have taken ~25 lessons. I practice my butt off and will continue to do so. With my 9i, for instance - without a ball, my teacher has noted that my swing looks great; as soon as a ball is in front of me though, I come in very steep, generally creating (as a righty) a side spin axis that illustrates an outside/in swing. My instructor is helping get me to reverse that side spin axis to illustrate inside/out path. Once the ball is in front of me, I'm steep - but take the ball away the next shot, and I'm shallower. He's using a lot of great drills and tips, but I can't get shallow. Of course, as the clubs get longer, this becomes more pronounced. Any recommendations that can help me with this challenge? I'm determined and always willing to put in the time, but I'm at a loss for why this is happening and it's starting to get in my head. Thanks very much! MJ

This is a nicely timed video. I’ve been trying to shallow the club more and was trying to loop it into shallowing. After watching this video and noticing that the 3 pros weren’t doing that or even trying to do it, along with your comments. I quickly realized that I was heading down the wrong path. The 2 drills you provide should help a lot, especially if I go slow. Thanks for the advice and keep up the good work.
Love your work. Some of the most thoughtful and helpful content available, both here and on your site. In this piece you commend a player whose hands move directly to the ball from the top, but in other very helpful pieces on shallowing you use GEARS to show that hand path actually drops straight down the spine angle and doesn't start coming forward to the ball until a bit later when the body turn brings hands around in the blending process. As they fall, the wrists and forearms are responsible for maintaining the angle of the shaft just outside the ball. That explanation was an epiphany, but I don't see how it squares with comments here to "make a B-line to the ball with your hands from the top." Seems that I"ve spent years doing that and coming over the top. I'm eager to learn more. Thanks for all your wonderful videos.
Could you guys do a video on elbow plane in the golf swing? Take one of your virtual pros and draw a straight line through both elbows and show how that line would point in every part of the golf swing? I'm getting some conflicting information out there. Could you draw a vertical line down from the golfers lead shoulder down. I would like to see the path of their hands looking down the line. It appears that their hands are not traveling out, but down.
I am a subscriber and have been for a long time. And this is the content where I personally as a golfer learn the most of. I have been studying the game a lot the past 4 years since I picked it up, trying to shallow the club for a while. And I noticed probably from one of your videos as well that most of us that struggle shallowing the club are way too laid off on the backswing so there is no where to go than shallow to steep. I have been working a lot with my coach this winter and I really feel that the swing changes are taking effect. Breaking 90 regularly now and if the course and conditions are right I might break 80 this season after not being able to break 90 the past 4 years.
@@jbv2081 I take it back steep and then make sure the club is pointing somewhat in the direction of the target. Don’t be afraid to let your right arm disconnect from your torso, just make sure one of your first moves is to bring your elbow back to the side - you might want to experiment if it suits you better to bring it directly to the seam of the shirt, behind it or in front of it (imagine DJs swing for that last one and Henrik Stenson for the first one).

I’m impressed on how Cameron Champ club head moves in an arc away from the ball on the downswing and that it doesn’t elevate once the golf swing starts.
Drills are so important. A common misconception is that the spinal chord is some sort of "passive" cable, but in fact with repetition it develops a repertoire of its own! Neuro-muscular loops develop with repetition over time that eventually enable complex coordinated ballistic actions to be executed with minimal input from the brain. These are what make the act of balance and complex skills like the playing of musical instruments possible. Many may have heard of the swimming frog with its brain removed or the articulating limbs of a beheaded chicken? So there's no short cut to practice, practice, practice ..... The very same nurture of movement makes a change in a deeply grooved movement pattern difficult, so getting it right in the first place is so important. This is what makes AMG stuff so good. Clearly defined movement patterns based on good data. I would go as far as to say some of the stuff in these videos amounts to THE definitive handbook of the full swing. Homer Kelly would have loved to watch some of these videos and Mac O'Grady is possibly embarrassed by some of the stuff. We now have a breakdown of good mechanics thanks to AMG and in conjunction with some of the pressure sensor work being done a new insight into the optimal golf swing is in reach. "Movement" follows "pressure"; there's a little to be worked out still in terms of pressure (or lack of it) between some of the linkages from the ground to the hands, but those fortunate enough to have these tools can use them to zone in on the correct pressure patterns to fire the ballistic sequence of the golf swing most efficiently. I guess it all becomes moot when we consider the short game. The full swing is body propulsive , but the short game swings are largely body reactive in my opinion, which allows manipulations, nuances and better control of distance and trajectory. As I've stated before, it's a pleasure watching these video being so eloquently conveyed by Mike and Shaun. I can't help but be analytical about so many things (my problem as a former engineer and software analyst) and that includes noticing the wonderful production values displayed in these videos too. Apologies for such a long post!😢

OMG, the split hand drill is the best pre-shot routine for me. I take two split swings (it feels and looks so pro!), then I repeat the "feel" in my actual swing and it has made a world of difference! Thanks!
Hey guys, you mention for the Split Hand drill to "Straighten out" the right arm on the downswing but never mention How Much? The trail (R) arm must have some bend in it at impact or the club will hit the ground first, correct? I can see this getting misinterpreted as having a straight trail (R) arm at impact and players who watch this video trying to straighten their R arm too much prior to impact. I would like to know how much straightening you are talking about of the trail (R) arm in the downswing using this drill? Thanks!
Hey guys keep the great videos coming. I was wondering if you could get gears to give us a measurement on the rotation of the lead arm about the shoulder joint. I’m talking if you put your arm out in front of you palm facing the sky and rotated it about the shoulder joint so that it was facing the floor (possibly pronation?). Looking at my swing I feel as though this could be something I am missing to help me shallow the club. The measurement are such an insightful metric for all us golfers to see. I know this an older video and I don't know if you guys will respond but I have a question regarding number two up there Will Zalatoris not so much about the back injury he sustained this past summer but more about the "how". In a interview he claims to have been "later" than most guys pushing off his right side, causing havoc in his back and no doubt was an injury just waiting to happen. He has since rectified that problem and hopefully has a stellar '23 season. My question is what did he mean by being late pushing off his right side,, is that why his right knee points out so much releasing the club? Curious like a cat and I am sure you guys know the flaw or outlier that screwed his back up. Thanks.
Yes, your split hands drill has the same look and feeling as a hockey slap shot. The big difference is in a slap shot your stick blade hits the ice just behind the puck, flexes (loads) the shaft and rebounds into the puck where in golf you hit the ball first. You also have to square your hockey stick blade at impact and the slap shot follow through is also very similar in concept to the golf swing follow through. I would love to see a visual progression comparison of a hockey slap shot, the split hand drill and a pro’s iron swing. I will be using this visual from now on. Great drill and video.
I had a grand epiphany after I purchased your program along with watching your videos.....the backswing is based on your setup and the downswing/shallowing happens based on that! It is so much easier for me to see, feel and execute now! Love you guys and how you make us amateurs understand what the pros do....not saying we will be them, but identifying the basic movement patterns and positions that ALLOW them to be so great! My lightbulb moment today!
Hey fellas, My issue is a Rt sheet that stalls in transition and I throw it from the top and obviously ruin my impact alignments. Any videos that address a Rt shoulder that stays high in transition? Thank you!
I tried to get it “looped” more and found that while the club head may not be heavy, when it’s moving it creates considerably more momentum. This started creating too much club head drop which in turned kicked the hands out (and a host of other issues). You can play with a slightly steep and shallow swings, but you don’t want overdo either..IMO.
Hi guys...could use a little clarification please... at the 11:18 mark Shaun demonstrates an incorrect "over the top" type of movement... I struggle with the left shoulder down and around movement .....to me that looks a little like left shoulder down and around.....thoughts, please and maybe reiterate why the left shoulder down initial movement is important..thx
Sweet, Lord! I have been fighting a super steep downswing forever and just can't seem to make any progress. I checked my lead arm parallel position to see where my club is pointing. Sigh... it's closer to my foot than the ball. I'll give the drills a try!

both Collin and Justin bow their left wrist nicely at impact. Collin bows his on the backswing Justin bows his after transition. They both allow for good forward shaft lean at impact, but how does one get their wrist in the bowed condition. I am totally right side dominant and my feel would have to be with my right hand. Please comment.
I had my son imagine he was holding a tray at the top with right hand (wrist extension ) Magic. Left wrist was flat and the release at impact improved too!
Good job! Very helpful. Would you comment on the fact that at least JT, DLIII, and Ernie Els have their hands closer to the ball at hip high on the downswing than at the same point on the backswing.
you guys are amazing. you definitely simply things and back it with gears which is so helpful, but make no mistake, implementing your teach is not easy. takes a long time to absorb and execute your instruction. It's a challenge but super worth it. I take golf very seriously and would love to work with you guys. is there a process for this?

Gentlemen, I saw a clip on instagram from a teacher who I know you guys respect and have actually had him on a few of your videos. He was showing a drill where from the top you ulner deviate while flexing the left wrist to help shallow the club. Is this something that you guys would find necessary? I know ulner deviation has to happen in the downswing anyways when your releasing angles. Just curious on your thoughts.
Clubhead and grip dropping at the same rate is a great feel. This I feel can only be achieved if the angle in the trail arm increases. If this move is executed during the transition solid repeatable compression of the golf ball goes thru the roof. You guys have some great material. Thank you
Great video. I noticed that all 3 golfers you highlighted raise their right heel in downswing before impact. What is the benifit or purpose ? Is it just helping to rotate hips better?
The right heel is an anchor for the right hip. Most golfers (pro included) don't have the mobility to get the right hip through with the right heel on the ground. Great catch!
Most are well short of having the shaft perp to the spine. Keep in mind, the higher the camera gets above the hands, the flatter the shaft will LOOK, but that’s not the reality 👍
Not sure if this is a good question for you guys but I am having some tightness in my upper back between my shoulder blades. I don't swing with excessive force and nothing else aches or hurts. Would you know any common benefactors that would cause this? Google has every reason under the sun LOL. My swing is like a mix of AMS and PROS I got some good ingredients but i need more. \
That’s not a place we’re used to hearing golfers saying they feel pain or discomfort. It would just be guessing as to why that might be happening, which sounds like google did a pretty good job of already lol.
I don't understand how the elbow plane works since it doesn't match address shaft angle. Is it because everything is oriented out to the right and from the inside so it looks steeper from 2d behind the player/ball? I've NEVER understood how that works. If not can you do a video to explain, as I'm certain I'm not the only one..lol
The club doesn’t swing on the shaft plane except for some short pitch shots. Now if the camera is high it can LOOK like it does, but it doesn’t in reality 😉
Idea for a video: Would love to see a side by side or overlapping gears body movement video of the same tour player hitting a draw and a fade. I believe many golfers, myself included, try to over exaggerate the movements to make a certain shot when really it should be quite simple.
Great video! I found those drills really helpful to feel the shallowing effect but unfortunately it has been really hard to incorporate it into the normal swing the second I take a right hand grip, I start that over the top/casting move almost immediately. Any advice for incorporating the drill into the swing?
Hey guys, can you talk about the hand and club path and how they are supposed to move from the Top of the backswing To L arm parallel? From L arm parallel-Down as talked about in the video is the juicy middle, but a lot of ams. get “off the rails” way before then in that period and space from the top-down to L arm parallel and are already too far gone to implement what you talk about in the video. For example, I start the downswing by opening and rotating my shoulders too much too early and push the hands and club Out and OTT toward the ball and then it’s all FUBARED from there. What is the feel for the hands & club from the top to L arm parallel? In the videos of the pros you used it looks like the hands & club just sort of stay suspended in place up and back as the hips start to rotate. How is that even possible and how are us mere mortals even supposed to accomplish that?! 🙏!!
So what's first...chicken or egg? Aren't each of these pros making the shift-recenter which automatically drops the hands down and shift outside the ball and on plane? I think what would help explain this is not focusing on the hands. But the whole of the recenter-pivot. Can you connect the hand movement with the recentering on gears? Thx!
A slight shallowing in the downswing by good ball strikers is the product of athletic skill/motion! Yes a good sequenced backswing can improve your chances ,but if you cant throw a ball fast and accurately,(have you ever won a coconut!) or serve at tennis then its highly unlikely youre going to achieve this! But if youve been a good sports player and still struggle at golf these guys can get you striking a golf ball like you know you should be!
Honestly just keep doing it. There is no set time in my opinion. Keep practicing that move in practice and during play. Then one day in the near future it will click. And when it does - you ride that feeling for as long as possible until you find yourself outside the middle of the window on the other side of the spectrum. Then you start using a drill that does the opposite of what you first worked on. Until you find that wave and ride it again. Some people pick it up fast while others take a longer time to get there. It is my contention that the ones who get there slower, stay in the middle of the window longer while the ones who pick it up quicker get out of the middle of the window faster. I myself am generally a faster learner and find myself of the opposite sides on the middle of the window often. But this also allows me to work the ball both ways because I'm familiar with both sides of the window. Some days it's easier to fade it than draw it and other days vice versa. I found something with my right arm on the backside the other day that helped with getting a tad bit shallower. Started honing in on it and yesterday I was in the middle of the window. Shot 64.
Hey guys I’m a 70 year old golfer and a lot of your training points to the reverse C position the moment of impact which is really hard on the body at my age I really try to stay away from that I try to do everything you guys recommend but I cannot hold that reverse see it’s just dangerous to this old guy I’m still working and I still got good club speed but I can’t get to that position if you could talk about a variation

Do you fine gents consider HOGAN an anachronism with his right arm so flexed into impact (and attatched to his torso). He came in a touch more shallow and then got steeper where he never got the hands higher than address which few attain.(unBEELINE like) Am I off? Thanks!
Great video and some great tips on a very common swing fault in most amateur swings. Couple of points/questions : 1) thanks for confirming that actually extending right arm will automatically lower arms down ie you don’t need to shove arms down. I think this is a subtle but important point because it means you increase/maintain width at same time 2) I suspect the majority of steep downswings are caused by incorrect shoulder movement ie right shoulder being shoved out to the ball too quickly. My theory is that a lot of the time this is due to incorrect hip tilt ie if hips rotate too flat then shoulders will also rotate too flat (ie go out towards the ball rather than down) whereas more hip tilt will promote a steeper shoulder turn which in turn will encourage a shallowing move provided you bring down arms?
You indicate that the club does not drop behind but you need to analyse the fact that when the pros squat into the downswing the only way that keep the club path constant is for the arms and wrists to drop the club behind the angle of the body.
Do y’all think shallowing is overrated? As someone who has always dealt with coming over the top and always tried to get more shallow, I’ve always been frustrated that I can’t get my club and body into the extremes that often get emphasized and still hit functional golf shots. It’s refreshing to hear here that I don’t have to get into the cartoonish amounts of shallow in order to have a “good” golf swing. I feel like the conversation should focus on “stop over the top” more so than just “getting shallow” at the expense of all else.

1:55 was GREAT !! I always thought the clubhead would have to be controlled to speed up from the top, but you are saying, same speed as hands ! Wow

Could you draw a vertical line down from the golfers lead shoulder down. I would like to see the path of their hands looking down the line. It appears that their hands are not traveling out, but down.
I am a subscriber and have been for a long time. And this is the content where I personally as a golfer learn the most of. I have been studying the game a lot the past 4 years since I picked it up, trying to shallow the club for a while. And I noticed probably from one of your videos as well that most of us that struggle shallowing the club are way too laid off on the backswing so there is no where to go than shallow to steep. I have been working a lot with my coach this winter and I really feel that the swing changes are taking effect. Breaking 90 regularly now and if the course and conditions are right I might break 80 this season after not being able to break 90 the past 4 years.

@@jbv2081 I take it back steep and then make sure the club is pointing somewhat in the direction of the target. Don’t be afraid to let your right arm disconnect from your torso, just make sure one of your first moves is to bring your elbow back to the side - you might want to experiment if it suits you better to bring it directly to the seam of the shirt, behind it or in front of it (imagine DJs swing for that last one and Henrik Stenson for the first one).

I’m impressed on how Cameron Champ club head moves in an arc away from the ball on the downswing and that it doesn’t elevate once the golf swing starts.
Should the driver also be pointing at/slightly outside the ball the same as the irons?
Drills are so important. A common misconception is that the spinal chord is some sort of "passive" cable, but in fact with repetition it develops a repertoire of its own! Neuro-muscular loops develop with repetition over time that eventually enable complex coordinated ballistic actions to be executed with minimal input from the brain. These are what make the act of balance and complex skills like the playing of musical instruments possible. Many may have heard of the swimming frog with its brain removed or the articulating limbs of a beheaded chicken? So there's no short cut to practice, practice, practice .....
The very same nurture of movement makes a change in a deeply grooved movement pattern difficult, so getting it right in the first place is so important. This is what makes AMG stuff so good. Clearly defined movement patterns based on good data. I would go as far as to say some of the stuff in these videos amounts to THE definitive handbook of the full swing. Homer Kelly would have loved to watch some of these videos and Mac O'Grady is possibly embarrassed by some of the stuff. We now have a breakdown of good mechanics thanks to AMG and in conjunction with some of the pressure sensor work being done a new insight into the optimal golf swing is in reach. "Movement" follows "pressure"; there's a little to be worked out still in terms of pressure (or lack of it) between some of the linkages from the ground to the hands, but those fortunate enough to have these tools can use them to zone in on the correct pressure patterns to fire the ballistic sequence of the golf swing most efficiently.
I guess it all becomes moot when we consider the short game. The full swing is body propulsive , but the short game swings are largely body reactive in my opinion, which allows manipulations, nuances and better control of distance and trajectory.
As I've stated before, it's a pleasure watching these video being so eloquently conveyed by Mike and Shaun. I can't help but be analytical about so many things (my problem as a former engineer and software analyst) and that includes noticing the wonderful production values displayed in these videos too.

Hey guys, you mention for the Split Hand drill to "Straighten out" the right arm on the downswing but never mention How Much? The trail (R) arm must have some bend in it at impact or the club will hit the ground first, correct? I can see this getting misinterpreted as having a straight trail (R) arm at impact and players who watch this video trying to straighten their R arm too much prior to impact. I would like to know how much straightening you are talking about of the trail (R) arm in the downswing using this drill? Thanks!

Hey guys keep the great videos coming. I was wondering if you could get gears to give us a measurement on the rotation of the lead arm about the shoulder joint. I’m talking if you put your arm out in front of you palm facing the sky and rotated it about the shoulder joint so that it was facing the floor (possibly pronation?). Looking at my swing I feel as though this could be something I am missing to help me shallow the club. The measurement are such an insightful metric for all us golfers to see. Thanks for the informative vids and keep up the good work.

I know this an older video and I don't know if you guys will respond but I have a question regarding number two up there Will Zalatoris not so much about the back injury he sustained this past summer but more about the "how". In a interview he claims to have been "later" than most guys pushing off his right side, causing havoc in his back and no doubt was an injury just waiting to happen. He has since rectified that problem and hopefully has a stellar '23 season. My question is what did he mean by being late pushing off his right side,, is that why his right knee points out so much releasing the club? Curious like a cat and I am sure you guys know the flaw or outlier that screwed his back up. Thanks.

Yes, your split hands drill has the same look and feeling as a hockey slap shot. The big difference is in a slap shot your stick blade hits the ice just behind the puck, flexes (loads) the shaft and rebounds into the puck where in golf you hit the ball first. You also have to square your hockey stick blade at impact and the slap shot follow through is also very similar in concept to the golf swing follow through. I would love to see a visual progression comparison of a hockey slap shot, the split hand drill and a pro’s iron swing. I will be using this visual from now on. Great drill and video.
I had a grand epiphany after I purchased your program along with watching your videos.....the backswing is based on your setup and the downswing/shallowing happens based on that! It is so much easier for me to see, feel and execute now! Love you guys and how you make us amateurs understand what the pros do....not saying we will be them, but identifying the basic movement patterns and positions that ALLOW them to be so great! My lightbulb moment today!

Great video. Id be interested to see same analysis done on with driver (and how the shaft angle relates to ball and or spine).
I tried to get it “looped” more and found that while the club head may not be heavy, when it’s moving it creates considerably more momentum. This started creating too much club head drop which in turned kicked the hands out (and a host of other issues). You can play with a slightly steep and shallow swings, but you don’t want overdo either..IMO.

Sweet, Lord! I have been fighting a super steep downswing forever and just can't seem to make any progress. I checked my lead arm parallel position to see where my club is pointing. Sigh... it's closer to my foot than the ball. I'll give the drills a try!

both Collin and Justin bow their left wrist nicely at impact. Collin bows his on the backswing Justin bows his after transition. They both allow for good forward shaft lean at impact, but how does one get their wrist in the bowed condition. I am totally right side dominant and my feel would have to be with my right hand. Please comment.
A bowed wrist is not necessary for a great swing or shaft lean at impact. A flat left wrist works too.
I had my son imagine he was holding a tray at the top with right hand (wrist extension ) Magic. Left wrist was flat and the release at impact improved too!

you guys are amazing. you definitely simply things and back it with gears which is so helpful, but make no mistake, implementing your teach is not easy. takes a long time to absorb and execute your instruction. Gentlemen, I saw a clip on instagram from a teacher who I know you guys respect and have actually had him on a few of your videos. He was showing a drill where from the top you ulner deviate while flexing the left wrist to help shallow the club. Is this something that you guys would find necessary? I know ulner deviation has to happen in the downswing anyways when your releasing angles. Just curious on your thoughts.

Clubhead and grip dropping at the same rate is a great feel. This I feel can only be achieved if the angle in the trail arm increases. If this move is executed during the transition solid repeatable compression of the golf ball goes thru the roof. You guys have some great material.

Great video. I noticed that all 3 golfers you highlighted raise their right heel in downswing before impact. What is the benifit or purpose ? Is it just helping to rotate hips better?
The right heel is an anchor for the right hip. Most golfers (pro included) don't have the mobility to get the right hip through with the right heel on the ground. Great catch!

How do you fix a flat arm swing?
Most of these guys at left arm parallel have a shaft perpendicular to the spine. Is that more a result of wrist conditions or forearm rotation
Most are well short of having the shaft perp to the spine. Keep in mind, the higher the camera gets above the hands, the flatter the shaft will LOOK, but that’s not the reality 👍
Not sure if this is a good question for you guys but I am having some tightness in my upper back between my shoulder blades. I don't swing with excessive force and nothing else aches or hurts. Would you know any common benefactors that would cause this? Google has every reason under the sun LOL. My swing is like a mix of AMS and PROS I got some good ingredients but i need more. \
That’s not a place we’re used to hearing golfers saying they feel pain or discomfort. It would just be guessing as to why that might be happening, which sounds like google did a pretty good job of already lol.
I don't understand how the elbow plane works since it doesn't match address shaft angle. Is it because everything is oriented out to the right and from the inside so it looks steeper from 2d behind the player/ball? I've NEVER understood how that works. If not can you do a video to explain, as I'm certain I'm not the only one..lol
The club doesn’t swing on the shaft plane except for some short pitch shots. Now if the camera is high it can LOOK like it does, but it doesn’t in reality 😉

Would love to see a side by side or overlapping gears body movement video of the same tour player hitting a draw and a fade. I believe many golfers, myself included, try to over exaggerate the movements to make a certain shot when really it should be quite simple.
It would be a very boring video lol. Very minute differences, but you're exactly right, most of us way overdo things to hit both shapes.
Is there a drill for me to get my body synchronized better? Currently my hips fire too quick and I don’t even try to. Please help!

I found those drills really helpful to feel the shallowing effect but unfortunately it has been really hard to incorporate it into the normal swing the second I take a right hand grip, I start that over the top/casting move almost immediately. Any advice for incorporating the drill into the swing?

Hey guys, can you talk about the hand and club path and how they are supposed to move from the Top of the backswing To L arm parallel? From L arm parallel-Down as talked about in the video is the juicy middle, but a lot of ams. get “off the rails” way before then in that period and space from the top-down to L arm parallel and are already too far gone to implement what you talk about in the video. For example, I start the downswing by opening and rotating my shoulders too much too early and push the hands and club Out and OTT toward the ball and then it’s all FUBARED from there. What is the feel for the hands & club from the top to L arm parallel? In the videos of the pros you used it looks like the hands & club just sort of stay suspended in place up and back as the hips start to rotate. How is that even possible and how are us mere mortals even supposed to accomplish that?! 🙏!!

Gradually it will. The steepest being your most lofted wedge and the shallowest being your driver.
So what's first...chicken or egg? Aren't each of these pros making the shift-recenter which automatically drops the hands down and shift outside the ball and on plane? I think what would help explain this is not focusing on the hands. But the whole of the recenter-pivot. Can you connect the hand movement with the recentering on gears? Thx!

A slight shallowing in the downswing by good ball strikers is the product of athletic skill/motion! Yes a good sequenced backswing can improve your chances ,but if you cant throw a ball fast and accurately,(have you ever won a coconut!) or serve at tennis then its highly unlikely youre going to achieve this! But if youve been a good sports player and still struggle at golf these guys can get you striking a golf ball like you know you should be!
What is the amount swings or time I should spent on each drill and number of days a week I need do these drills to get a transfer to my swing?
Honestly just keep doing it. There is no set time in my opinion. Keep practicing that move in practice and during play. Then one day in the near future it will click. And when it does - you ride that feeling for as long as possible until you find yourself outside the middle of the window on the other side of the spectrum. Then you start using a drill that does the opposite of what you first worked on. Until you find that wave and ride it again. Some people pick it up fast while others take a longer time to get there. It is my contention that the ones who get there slower, stay in the middle of the window longer while the ones who pick it up quicker get out of the middle of the window faster.
I myself am generally a faster learner and find myself of the opposite sides on the middle of the window often. But this also allows me to work the ball both ways because I'm familiar with both sides of the window. Some days it's easier to fade it than draw it and other days vice versa.
I found something with my right arm on the backside the other day that helped with getting a tad bit shallower. Started honing in on it and yesterday I was in the middle of the window. Shot 64.
As long as it takes. There's no universal answer to this. The key is quality of reps.

Hey guys I’m a 70 year old golfer and a lot of your training points to the reverse C position the moment of impact which is really hard on the body at my age I really try to stay away from that I try to do everything you guys recommend but I cannot hold that reverse see it’s just dangerous to this old guy I’m still working and I still got good club speed but I can’t get to that position if you could talk about a variation

Great video and some great tips on a very common swing fault in most amateur swings. Couple of points/questions :
1) thanks for confirming that actually extending right arm will automatically lower arms down ie you don’t need to shove arms down. I think this is a subtle but important point because it means you increase/maintain width at same time
2) I suspect the majority of steep downswings are caused by incorrect shoulder movement ie right shoulder being shoved out to the ball too quickly.
My theory is that a lot of the time this is due to incorrect hip tilt ie if hips rotate too flat then shoulders will also rotate too flat (ie go out towards the ball rather than down) whereas more hip tilt will promote a steeper shoulder turn which in turn will encourage a shallowing move provided you bring down arms?
I wish I could just spend 8 hours a day with you guys working on my swing for about a month.
You indicate that the club does not drop behind but you need to analyse the fact that when the pros squat into the downswing the only way that keep the club path constant is for the arms and wrists to drop the club behind the angle of the body.
We’ve analyzed with measured data pros who’ve won over a billion dollars and neither of those are facts.
Do y’all think shallowing is overrated?
As someone who has always dealt with coming over the top and always tried to get more shallow, I’ve always been frustrated that I can’t get my club and body into the extremes that often get emphasized and still hit functional golf shots. It’s refreshing to hear here that I don’t have to get into the cartoonish amounts of shallow in order to have a “good” golf swing.
I feel like the conversation should focus on “stop over the top” more so than just “getting shallow” at the expense of all else.
Agree completely. Fixing over the top isn’t accomplished by a cartoonish shallowing move that’ll only swap one set of issues for new ones.
Always shocking to me that these guys only w 120K subscriber based on the content and quality.
