  • In 1963 Remington introduced the Model 1100 shotgun, a gas operated semi automatic that took the shotgun world by storm.......so much so that it caused Remington to discontinue the Model 11-48 and Model 58, the two other semi auto shotguns in the lineup. You can imagine how it impacted sales of the competitors offerings.
The example I have here is a 1985 production, 2 3/4'' 12 Gauge with a 30'' fixed full choke barrel that was virtually unfired most likely due to the fact that the gas system was set up improperly and was probably thought to be defective by the previous owner. A simple procedure to align the gas rings properly showed this shotgun to be flawless in operation.
    Thanks for tuning in !
(........by the way, the locking lug in the bolt engages the BARREL when it's in the receiver.....a silly oversight by me! Certainly not my first or last!!!!)

I love it, it looks a lot like my Smith and Wesson model 1000. Although they’re totally different internals from what I recall they look very similar.

I have a pair of 1100s. One I bought new in 1978. That one is still in very nice shape.
The other I bought damaged for next to nothing. It had had something heavy dropped on it. Stock was broken, forend cracked, and it had a dent in the barrel. But other than that it was in decent shape.
I put a synthetic stock/forend on it and cut the barrel to about 20 inch which got rid of the dent. It became my home defense shotgun.

Just got a 1963 1100 from the original owner. May have never been fired. Five Digit Serial plus "V" (2 3/4 shells). Barrel matches receiver serial (Code EK = Oct 1963). Beautiful.

I had a opportunity to keep one of those 1100 a Winchester 30-30 and a little 25 acp. The gentleman I was storing them for told me to just keep them. And I simply couldn’t do it the second he told me to keep them. I made it a point to bundle them up in blankets and get them all back to him. To this day idk what happened to my good friend Jerry. But I hope he didn’t sell those pieces. Because I sure would like to have em in my collection now that I’m in my forever home.

      Why not just buy them?

@@MilsurpGaragemaybe some day eventually. They are definitely a good gun in my opinion. I been trying to save my pennies for a S&W no dash 586 to go next to it’s brother from a different mother. When a guy has taste in firearms like I do the collecting aspect of the second amendment tends to get expensive. Lol

et al. is an abbreviation of "et alia" which is Latin for "and others". (Yes. I passed the NY Regents exam in Latin.)
I have an 1100 manufactured in the early '80's. It is a marvelous gun, accurate, reliable, and very soft shooting. I put a recoil pad on it and have never had a bruise post trap, skeet, or SC shooting (which I unfortunately do not get to do often). Shot a Krieghoff at the Homestead in VA, and while it was a fine O/U, I'll take the 1100 every time.
The video was, as usual, well done and informative. I am impressed by your skill at Trap. You seem to be dialed in with that 1100.

Thanks for the kind words......yeah, it feels real good. No 25 yet but a few 24’s. Stay tuned.....there’s a Model 58 video on the way! The comparison will surely interest you!

Nice review! We got to go trap shooting, one of these days. Or meet at the VFW for Friday happy hour. My knee is improving!

The bolt locks into the top of the barrel extension, not the receiver.
