  • Today we are reviewing another AMD EPYC-powered system! Better yet, this system also supports up to eight dual-slot GPU cards with a single processor. I’m talking about the Gigabyte G291-Z20 GPU Server, and if you’re not very familiar with Gigabyte products, it’s probably because Dell, HPE and Lenovo have been very effective at their brand marketing. Or it means you have not had a need for any High-Performance Computing applications in which Gigabyte excels. This is a 2U system with a single AMD processor that promises to deliver 2-socket performance for HPC applications in the datacenter.
As a single-socket system, the Gigabyte G291-Z20 GPU server has the potential to save you thousands of dollars while still delivering the goods, thanks to AMD’s EPYC processors. What’s this system good for? Your basic high-performance computing applications…real-time analytics, scientific simulation and modeling, engineering, visualization and rendering, and… Watch the video!!

thank you for the detailed review. I just purchased this server but no processor. just wondering if an EPYC 64 core ES would work on this system. Also will a Tesla K80 work as well. thanks in advance

      Hi John,
Only the second generation EPYC 7002 series processors support 64 cores. EPYC 7001 series processors support a maximum of 32 cores and there is no mention of this platform supporting 2nd generation AMD EPYC CPUs. Also, the ES refers to "Engineering Sample", which cannot be legally sold and are pre-production CPUs, so they tend to not work as well as the final chips. We don't test, validate or sell ES processors. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!

      Hi there!
      No. For many reasons.
      Thanks for watching!

Any idea how loud this thing is at full tilt? I'm guessing 2kW in 2U needs a hurricane's worth of airflow...
Oh and BTW - love your videos but silicon is for chips, silicone is for bath-sealant!

@@Bonkatronicks Really depends on how you allocate the resources and this is quite specialized. On another note, how many licks does it take to get the the center of a tootsie roll lollipop? I've heard it can be as little as 3 or up to 364. Ask the Owl. Thanks for watching!
