- This is one of my favorite tracks, beautiful chord embellishments by Jimi. Fuzz clean up achieved by rolling the volume down.

Whenever I get depressed looking at the world today, I come here to have my spirit restored. Thank you.
Jimi is mostly known for his solos but his rhythm playing is absolutely gorgeous. To this day I've never heard anything like it
Totally agree, the best one could be killing floor to show this.
@@hellogais2177 straight master class on connecting chords…. And killing floor live Monterey is bonkers and it’s the OPENER
Jimi's rhythm work was better than his solos imo.
Just a few mainstream players have or has a similar level like SRV, J Mayer, Frusciante, etc.
🎸🎼👌
I think this was Hendrix's best example of his Rythym playing for me. Just so simple but brilliant and pure. All those little embellishments and volume adjustments when he does the quick little leads are just phenomenal.
Wait Until Tomorrow on Axis: Bold As Love demonstrates his phenomenal rhythm playing as well.
The chords are C-F-G for most of the song (with an occasional Bb thrown in between the C and the F), switching to C-Dm-Em-F-G in those quiet verses, then there's an F-Em-D5-C-F-Em-D5-C-D5-F-G (e.g. at 01:52) before going back to the main C-F-G sequence. Licks are mainly in C major.
This literally sounds like you took out all of the crowd noise, singing, bass and drums and played back Jimi's guitar playing only. Awesome stuff.
Wow! This is someone who really understands what Jimi Hendrix is all about: The flow!
This is amazing. I started playing guitar around 1967 at 8yo. I was gifted the Jimi Hendrix /Otis Redding live at Monterey album and this was the opening song. I had to ask my Dad what buttons Jimi was talking about. And when Jimi said I know I missed a verse, don’t worry, I was hooked forever. You, my friend, have cracked the code. Thank you.
It made me laugh when u did the arm on the e string trick like hendrix that was cool man
+skaterlife9898 ahah yeah! That's the only way to get the same sound
Can someone explain what that actually is
That was Jimi's past coming out. Jimi played the "Chitlin Circuit" for several years before going to the UK and returning to the states as Jimi Hendrix. Many of these guitar tricks were used by "showmen' in the old days of playing, when showmanship was something more than cussing, gettting naked, and twerking.
the master once said the notes between the notes are important. period
@@aaaasssdf8443 It's an effect Jimi invented. Jimi loved the sound it made when he did this with the buttons or cuff links on his sleeve. Greg is using his thumb for this. I guess he had to compensate for the lack of volume, Jimi played incredibly loud ;-)
Yeah, dig brother um. It's really outta sight here. Didn't even rain. No buttons to push.
And right now we would like to dedicate this song to everybody here with... with hearts really kind hearts and ears,
goes something like this here.
Yeah!
Yeah! What I say now...
Hey!
Yes as I said before, it's really groovy here.
I'd like to bore you for six or seven minutes, and do a little thing uh.
Yeah!
Just let me play my guitar right.
Right now it's a little thing by Bob Dylan. And that's his grandma over there.
it's a little thing called Like a Rolling Stone......
mongrelrat hi.thanks.can you explain "no buttons to push"?
Meaning nothing went wrong today, nothing to control, so just relax. That’s been my take for all these years. Used it a million times to tell others (my kids too) “no worries”, “nothing to control or worry about; it’s all gonna work out”. That’s what I think Jimi meant.
mongrelrat awwww
mongrelrat I still wonder what he meant when he said no buttons to push...
mongrelrat lol
I have listened to Jimi's version about 300 times and absolutely love it every time. This effort was spot on in Tone, Feel and Precision. Thank you for keeping Hendrix Music a part of the Present Time.
I listen to this literally everyday...wondering how delightful Jimi's playing really was!
Nice playing dude.
it's so awesome when you realise Jimi did all this, with all the tweaks and sound control while he was also singing!
This is one of those songs I remember hearing for the first time and thinking oh yeah, this guy is on some other level. Then I saw the film (many yrs later) and saw just how casual he was in playing these amazing phrases one after another--which made it all the more amazing. Jimi was a Master Guitarist plain and simple with total command of the instrument.
I constanlty find myself up late at night watching your videos. They're incredible. I can feel Jimi's soul in your playing
Its funny..I can hear Jimi Singing while your playing...great Job
Me too
Thanks
i was thinking about the same thing ! lol
me too
Was thinking the exact same thing!!!!!!!
This is unbelievable (not that your other interpretations are not as well); you capture every nuance, accent and all the subtle fills like no one else I've seen or heard. When I see/hear something like this I curse my sausage-like fingers. Keep this great material coming!
+crangonyx Thank you, I'm really happy to read these kind of comments
+Greg Please reply would you ever do a tutorial of this like the chords , licks etc ? cheers
yeah... +1 to that. This is just superb
now im a true hendrix fan. great work i like the way you use your thumh
now im a true hendrix fan. great work i like the way you use your thumh
“There’s his grandma over there!!” BrillIant.
Jimi had such a great, subtle sense of humor.....I remember some live recording.....he calls Noel "Granny Goose" and then says something about his breath smelling like wolf pussy.....lol! Fucking great.
@@songkongphooey Not Noel. He was talking about the woman named Gloria in the song.
The first time I saw the film of him doing this. It was like he was speaking a different language.. His fills & comping shocked most of the 2gtr bands of the day. Jimi condensed two into one & did it better. A year or so later I saw him in a 2500 seat tent in Natick Mass. Genius..
Not sure exactly what anyone else has said but.... This is beautiful! I can hear jimi singing while you play and to accomplish that is amazing. Its hard enough to get just a part of his music down, it's a whole other ball game to get every single little bit like you have. Not only is this beautiful but astounding
Thanks for the Monterey version (my favorite) ..I will be working on this using your cover..You make it look so easy..Your an inspiration for all of us..
I've looked everywhere for this in tabs , music books , UA-cam etc etc only to find them ...well ...
this sir is spine chillingly accurate .
thank you .
Wow, another excellent spot-on rendition. Jim would be proud. My favorite parts: 3:05-3:08, 0:20-0:23, 4:41-4:43, 5:49-5:54. Actually, 0:00-6:27 :)
Greg.Just happened to pass your channel and I am speechless. I put down the guitar for many years. All I used to enjoy playing around with was hendrix. I can't play it but I can in my head and you get it nailed in all your covers. I can't imagine anyone getting that hendrix soul like you do......apart from hendrix. Its an inspiration and I want to pick up the guitar again. Not just that but I think these vids when played raw like this just add to the mystique and magic of what the man created. He is from another planet....hey baby take me along. Keep it up. Very special.
One of the most amazing tones that ever came out of an electric guitar was what Hendrix had that night at monterey
i love how artists like jimi took songs and made them there own but keeping the integrity of the original its a very unique process
Wasn't Jimi's tender side just amazing?
robbiedaug I really miss Jimi even though I didnt know him
It seems like you see the tender side of Jimmy a lot on the Cry Of Love album songs like drifting and belly button window night bird flying there's something about that album that just always really touched me but all his music was touching if you haven't heard the Cry Of Love album though you probably want to check it out
Yeah he has a beautifull soul like me, peace and love to you brother
Finally, a great version, the best on UA-cam!
+Vojislav Grubišić Thank you so much
Decades flashed before me, new worlds came and went. This is transformative work. When it's done like this, by such an adept, with such focus and intent, it's just marvelous. What a vehicle!
My deepest thanks.
and mine
This is the sickest thing I've ever seen
Holy Moles. I've watched/listened to this 100s of times. I play a bit and love Jim bob ! Heck of a cover dude. Amazing detail!
My top ten favorite guitar players are Jimi Hendrix. Every song he did was the greatest song ever written.
Awesome work. I have always thought of this as one of Hendrix's best moments among many. It is like if a person wanted to see basically a cross section of what Hendrix had to offer in just one song, this is way up there. The rhythm, the harmonies that sound like two guitars, the feather soft touches the hammer blows. I mean it is all there.
I’m falling in love with Jimi again. It’s been 34 years since the first time. Thank you for reminding me
The sound of the guitar, the touch, the feeling in it, the dynamic... you play the guitar just like Jimi did! Excellent!
Would you mind doing a short lesson going over the cords and a few of the licks in the rhythm? I really want to learn this and I can't pick up the licks and exactly what chords you're playing ,please do a quickie lesson thank you very much.
I second this request.
try to redece speed to 0,5 then its easy to learn
Bret Schwartz. The chords are C, F, G and repeat. Mess with that to a recording of the song. To solo over it play in C minor (aka the 8th fret I think) I did a cover of it if you want to check it out!
Camron King It’s in C Major
@savage Rabbit its very easy to do but hard to tell in english for me, pls google it
Alright brother...that was the most complete clip ever...- repetition✅... Dynamics✅... Phrasing/Silence/Melody ✅ Simplicity (play within your means)✅ Vibrato ✅ Double Stops ✅. All those things are needed to perform a correct solo. Nailed it!
and turning up the volume knob at the right moments
Nice! Brings me back to my college days when I first saw Jimi in the documentary that was produced in the 70's. I bought the soundtrack album and used to play and replay Jimi's "Like A Rolling Stone" because he just floored me with the passion and soul he played the song with. Thanks for playing the song with such soul, yourself! Very nice r&b style! Great job!
You have Jimi's rhythm playing down completely. It's amazing how you get every single detail of his playing into your own versions. Keep up the awesome work, Greg!
That's the closest I've ever heard it sound like Jimmy by another person. Great playing bro.
How could it even be disliked? This is played perfectly, note for note.
Well played, dude.
+rizzerist Jealousy will fog the mind and soul.
Incredible! Got me singing along!
Dude...
I'm so jealous
Gotta appreciate the fact you do all the "little things" in this cover.
Keep on Rockin'
I want to commend you not just for the nice guitar work, but the emotion and feel you put into it man. Great job.
I thoroughly enjoy all your Hendrix stuff, it’s the most accurate I’ve ever seen , I’ve been a huge fan since 73 when I was 13 and first heard it
I never get tired of hearing you cover this incredible performance. Inspires me to wanna be my best. Thanks brother !
I can't imagine why anyone would give you a thumbs down. Great work and thanks from all of us Jimi peeps.
Crow, why, because they’re jealous and can’t do it. I’d like to see them try.
@@missinglink6676 No doubt but they are missing out. Greg makes it look easy, I still can't play it..lol
I appreciate all guitarists who take on Jimi. Thank you for keeping him alive.
The open G String ring finally i needed that thankx bro
WOW!! Well done!
I have been waiting for someone to do this a long, long time : )
+Not Even Wrong Thanks!
+Greg Tabs, please!
Yes.....TABS please!!
You don't need tabs! Watch the video and use your ears. Tabs are not gonna make you a better guitarist- using your ears will!
@@richgilroy best reply i've ever read across all the music i've listened to on youtube. tutor guitar pilgrim, like me a jimi tragic, gets it alot. people! just use your eyes and ears. then you too will be playing by feel alone. it might help to get a dark suntan too.
all these covers are great, especially one rainy wish
You certainly have an ear for Jimi, fantastic !!
Dude...WOW. Thank you. I've been trying to learn his Monterey version exactly and you've done a fantastic job with it. Well done!!
Best cover of this on UA-cam in my humble opinion! You nailed it, great work!
Wonderful, spot-on. This is one of Jimi's finest moments, and you recreated it with incredible accuracy.
Excellent Greg! You captured all the little nuances and details brilliantly, plus you played it with feeling.
BRAVO!!!!
awesome guitar work , first time I ever saw anyone come close to Jimi, great job
thank you for the lesson........I'm 58 and my Son is 22....He digs much of what I grew up with.....thanks again
Great job! Jimi made this the best version of this song ever!
44 ans que j écoute Jimi Hendrix, je viens de découvrir la chaîne, magnifique idée ces parties isolées de guitares , une bonne claque aux shredders et leurs hordes d inconditionnels
blows my mind every time I watch this.
Hey man, just discovered your videos as I am going through a Hendrix worshiping phase (not sure if it will ever pass, or if I want it too) and your playing has blown me away. I have been going through a lot of Jimi's live albums lately, and this being my favorite track on the Monterey show, I am stunned. Such classic Hendrix and such an amazing cover of Bob Dylan. I always felt he covered Bob Dylan so incredibly well when considering he would take a folk progression and make it explode. You have recreated the sound and moves with such precision, I am lost for words. Happy to know people still share a bleeding passion and respect for the greatest guitarist who ever lived. Fucking beautiful
Terrific!! You do wonders on your Jimi covers. I come back and listen to them often.
My favourite recording ever. Thanks so much for this!
your videos show us what a genius Jimi was. Nothing before or since has sounded like him. Even players like Steevie Ray or Robin Trower who "copped" the Hendrix sound got it from him and may have added their own touch. But no guitar player on earth has come up with such unique playing style. I always get sad because I feel like the best was yet to come. Can you imagine what Hendrix would have done in the 1970s? If he only could have gotten awAy from the evil Mike Jefferies. Take comfort that that guy died in 1973 in a mid air plane collision. That is so evil to think, I know. But I just can't help myself. Anyways, thanks again. Your playing is beautiful. Now I have more learning to do! How you ever learned Angel I will never know!
Mike Jefferies is certainly the most detested human being in the history of rock music.
He might have have a bright future, I feel like that decade would have been a tragedy for him. He was already suffering from depression near the end, was 60% deaf, and couldn’t sleep without taking a serious amount of sleep medication.
He was starting to suffer from all the drug use. He died just on the backside of the hight of his career. He was forgetting words to songs, was completely unreliable when it came to keeping schedules. The experience broke up over Jimi just never showing up to studio.
He lived a fast lifestyle, and it was catching up to him. No ones indestructible, and the only reason Jimi seemed that way is because we never got to see him fall apart.
He died at 27, he only started using drugs heavily at 23/24.
I really like the fact others appreciate this version as much as me. It's a lifelong love song for me. Thanks for presenting it in good fashion.
You are the first person who plays his "bar chords" the way he did. I've tried to point it out now and again for 30 years ago, but every time, the person I'm telling it, to blows it off. They just can't get past the ring finger covering two strings which is what he did to play all those wonderful embellishments. When I figured that out, I stopped playing bars the clunky way and my playing got way, way better. I hardly ever play bars that way anymore. I wish I had learned that when I was playing in bands instead of when playing in my room. Very good job!
Yeeeeeah mate. That is really cool. It's spot on- I could hear Jimmi throughout.! Top marks 👏👏👏😂🎸🎸🎸
Not only are you nailing every note but you're also nailing every nuance of sound that he used...brilliant
one of the coolest starts to a song ive ever heard and you absolutely nail it! kudos!
BRILLIANT !!!! my fav bit of Jimi played note for note, massive WOW fella.
Truly a gift you have. Thank you.
I could not believe my eyeballs and ears when I seen this video. You did it perfect. How you figured that out is a Miracle, and it must of took a ton of work! Thanks Greg, I will play it many times
Just simply awesome!
My man! This is brilliant, thank you so much for sharing your talents.
Mate , you've done a fantastic job of the playing and capturing the essence , to see it up close like this shows the unbelievable genius of Jimi Hendrix , thankyou
Never get tired of hearing this , also sometimes I see or hear something that sparks another .. can’t read . Amazing playing
This is superb Greg. You're awesome.
That was sheer mastery, truly! Wow
Thanks for sharing. Made me smile this afternoon as I grooved to the blues licks akak. Heartfelt. Rock on brudder!
Hey Greg...this was amazing! The Monterey "Like a Rolling Stone" is a monster and you really did it justice! Thanks for sharing...time to try and get it under my fingers!
you have made Hendrix into a person who is real..... I cannot thank you enough for your hard work and unmatched skills, well I mean those living still
Thanks for this. He's literally breathing through the guitar.
Just beautiful. Thank you for this.
love all your covers of experience and respect ...thanks for the time you have invested and shared
An amazing rendition sir , always always makes me so emotional to hear it , I used to have the Hendrix set from Monterey on DVD , I can still hear him rapping to the audience... could you excuse me for six or seven min and jus let me play my guitar.. You could see how happy and emotional he was himself while he played it ....
Wow, beautiful. My favourite of Jimi's, wish I could play like this.
Gosh Greg I really appreciate your dedication. You nailed it, it’s just oh my God what a blast from the past you captured the essence of the song, just beautiful🎉
Beautiful!!
Fantastic!
Bro you NAILED it!
As has been said, brilliant cover of a cover, just like Hendrix done it. And it goes to show a little bit more, just how fantastic Hendrix was, to play it like that, the man was just tops.
Holy smokes! This is amazing! !!!!
Really great video man! it's nice to see a channel where people are playing Hendrix music that isn't really covered!
This deserves so many more views, stellar performance
This is amazing. Probably my favorite song of all time. Really want to learn it, i`m not very proficient with my guitar so it will have to wait. Seriously, beautiful.
Please do this in a lesson, sounds great, awesome playing!
This was the lesson !
Yep
You can see where the hands go, UA-cam has a slow down function, it's a lesson all along!
Absolutely Superb!
Absolutely killer!
awesome job. jimi would be proud.
a wonderful job - brings back happy memories
