The "adding tangs in darkness" tip is gold and worked perfectly for me. Thank you very much as I would've never have thought of that... nor have I heard it anywhere else. Love the tip!
When I worked at the fish store and if we have a loyal or previous customer that wants multiple tangs, we would put some from fresh shipments together in the tanks and see if they get along then sell them together. We've been very successful with this method.
Great video and info on multiple tangs in a tank, I'm taking notes for the future...!
What tangs have you got in mind?
Good video and great info Prestige!
This was great and very informative!! Simply put and easy to follow! 👌 beautiful tangs also!!! Thank you!
Ive had great luck mixing tangs as well. The mirror trick has always worked the best. My last 115 gallon had a purple, blonde naso, salfin, powder blue and brown. Powder blue and purple took the longest to get along but were also fighting for the top tang position of the tank. Great video.
Always great content 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Thanks for the upload!!! 😁 Always very enjoyable !!!
Great video as always mate
Thank you for all the helpful information 😊
Great video! I agree with all your points! Best video I’ve seen so far with about this topic, and hey I learned something new. About the red lights! Thank you for the new knowledge!
This was great info!
Excellent content as always
Thank you :)
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Much appreciated.
Keep the great videos coming
Thank you :)
Great video!
You are awesome!!! I just bought my first reef tank and I’m so new at this! Between your advice and my fish guy I’m hoping to do well in my new hobby!!!
lol Thank you, welcome to a whole new world of fun
Very informational. Beautiful fishes.
Thank you
I like how your videos are a mix of funny and educational ones
lol I try to keep things interesting
Thanks for the great info!
My pleasure
Subscribed keep up the good work
Appreciate the video, I have a sailfin, yellow and blue eye kole tang. All living well, adding them one at the time at the same size helps also. Cheers Great info.
Don’t worry about the numbers my friend worry about the content of reef knowledge. Also again another great video good job.
Nicely done as far as keying in on how important some factors are in keeping different Tangs together happily.
Thank you :)
Awesome video! Certainly food for thought for those whom desire to add another tang but are reluctant
Thank you :)
I subbed! Im getting a 47 gal soon and your videos are informative! Keep up the good work!
Very good info. Thanks.
My pleasure :)
Great video
All of your points are spot on mate. One thing to expand on is tank volume. The larger the tank, coupled with rock work and refuge is crucial to keep multiple species of tangs. If the tank is too small, think of it as a prison of sorts, and riots and chaos will certainly ensue. Great video-cheers!
This was informative
Thank you
Some of those tanks are massive!
Makes me want a bigger one
Good video. I am sure it is implied and I saw it in your video but using multiple feeding clips can help reduce the aggression as well. Especially when one fish is preventing another from grazing on it.
Your channel is going from strength to strength. Good luck to you man
Thank you :)
I love your channel and yes I am a subscriber! I also absolutely adore the British accent. 😉
My experience with mixing tangs is the powder blue giving ick to every other fish and completely wiping out the tank
JonsReef lol how did you know he didn’t quarantine and also quarantine doesn’t eliminate itch fully the powder can still get ich in the tank after qt
JonsReef in your experience is the key word, and guess what tomorrow I’m gonna get 2 clownfish, a whitetail Kole tang , a yellow tang a royal basslet and cardinal fish without qt 😏🧐
JonsReef tell that to worldwidecorals they are making sure we get the best fish and they can come over if we have any serious problems 😎🥱🙄
JonsReef I got ich 😣
JonsReef white spots all over my Kole tang yesterday 😢 getting qt
They are beautiful fish. Now I'm interested in getting them. You have given me great information about them and if I have any questions, I'm sure I can ask you. Thank you very much
Glad to have helped, its what I'm here for :)
Enjoyed the video, good mixture of humour and information, my only bug is with your species names, Genus is always upper case species is always lower case, so Zebrasoma flavescens for example :)
Nice beautiful Fish. 😊👍
Thank you :)
Very solid information! I think my tank is finally ready for the first batch of tangs. I thinking I’m gonna go with three yellows the first round. Second round will be a Blue hippo and Powder blue. Final round will be a Desarjini, Purple and maybe a Gem tang if I find one for the right price lol.. I’m hoping that introducing the Zebrasomas in batches of 3 will handle the aggression between all the same species in the system.. But I will forsure do you lights out and red light trick moving forward!
Love it. 😊❤
Wow thank you for your input. I have 6 tangs in a 300g tank which it has been a blessings they are all doing fine.
1. Purple tang
2. Yellow tang
3. Naso tang
4. Blue hippo tang
5. White bristletooth tang
6. Blue powder tang
I want to add one more which will be an Achilles tang. But overall they ate all healthy and getting along fine. Way to go!! Thank you for sharing
Totally agree on adding fish at night, if you QT your fish it makes it much easier to add them at night.
Good tip about putting theme at night ajd the mirror
4:28 My Fav tang
that was probably the best way to say please follow.
Hopefully people help out :)
Bro you have the holy grail Gem Tang and nobody knows what it is🤦🏾♂️ ITS GORGEOUS😍
lol true
Loved this vid, I myself have 8 tangs, which are all different other than two yellow tangs. They all get along for the most part! Every now and again they spat, but after a while they are all swimming together Again! 😁
Thank you :)...Its almost like they give up and then every so often they get grumpy again
I am just curious about how big your tank is to house 8 tangs
Great job. It can be done. Study and research and care and effort is key. How do you feel about convict tangs in there level of peacefulness or aggressiveness.
"Some fish are just bastards" this one had me in stitches!
Yes yes they are. Had a psychotic discus. Tried to eat the next one on the pecking order alive and starve the rest.
Thanks for the info. Great video. We have a 220 fish only tank with Sail-fin Tang
Foxface Rabbitfish
Copperband butterfly
Black Ice Snowflake Clownfish
3- Blue - Green Chromis
Coral Beauty
Flame Angelfish
4 Pajama Cardinalfish
Also 70 G QT tank w/ convict tang/lopez unicorn tang/blonde naso/blue hippo /orange shoulder tang. They need a few more weeks of copper QT before introducing into 220 tank
Just hit that button mate. 👍
Hi very nice video like always 👍
I have a naso blue hippo yellow and a sail fin and they get along fine
I always turn the lights out when I introduce new fish it does help sometimes I do a full 2 day blackout just to let the fish settle in it seemed to work at first but then the yellow tang one day wakes up and just goes mental for no reason I have a big fox face as well no aggression between the town and the Fox face or the regal tang but them 3 seem to team up and pick on anything I put in the tank I have a very large black Australian razi with blue and pink stripes down here it is getting bigger and bigger now he's starting to be a bully as well I think I've called it a day with fish the telling me they don't want any more in the tank so it's just corals for me from now on not Rocking the Boat and it's not fair on you fish getting bullied it breaks my heart
Really good information, I only keep one tang and that’s my hippo because I don’t want other tangs to bully her if I had a larger tank I’d have more then one tang tho.
Hippo tangs are one of the easier to mix with other tangs because they are in there own genus DescriptionParacanthurus
Ash Greninja MLG pro gamer you aint see the 2,000 dollar gem tang👀 he caint afford to have that investment bullied! For one the are difficult to find and very expensive.
Great video! Is it possible to create distractions in the tank so the tangs don't fight?
- Isabel
You are an expert aquarist. Firstly, you have a 2,000 gem tang in a tank with several other tangs🙀 they recommend the gem tang be the only tang in the tank because it costs too much to get bullied. But the multiple tang tank is not reality for the average aquarist. But its looks frickin awesome for you because you are and expert👍🏾
Its entitle possible these days to keep multiple tangs in tanks as small as 400 litres
Wow! I Love Tangs!
Me too :)
Nice video, just curious what tangs do you have?
Great vid as always, best in the business imo, I have a 450lt and have a golden eye tang in at the moment, I have just added a uv and am about to add another couple of tangs, suggestions are welcome ! I am thinking powder blue and something else. Picked up some good info there 👌
powder blues are pretty aggressive and I regret having mine if I'm honest, limits what else I can put in
Leigh White Besides the aggressiveness and the beautiful color, powder blue tangs are itch magnets. And if infected, it will wipe out the whole fish population in your tank. Just a word of caution.
Great video can you list what kind of coral in the tank, ect
Most of my tanks have only one tang, although i have have sucess with a dejardini and powder brown together, they were the best of buds, hanging out together all the time. The brown was added later as a juvinile when dejardini was about 4".
That was until an ich outbreak, the brown is just more susceptible, been in and out of QT with multiple issues after being moved back into other tanks. His original home I'm sure is still infected, as we all know, it just doesn't go away, but dejardini and tankmates haven't shown any signs since the original outbreak. Meanwhile, next week i will be putting the brown into a different tank, really hoping all is well this time, poor guy has been in and out of QT for so long now.
Also next week, i am adding a juv blue hippo into a 90, with an adolescent atlantic blue already there. Both blue hippo and flame angel have been in new fish QT, for over a month and are ready to be introduced. (Both commonly wanted fish, and my first of each type, strange i haven't had them yet, despite the amount of fish and tanks i keep.
I will be trying the lights off approach, to minimize aggression. Thank you for the helpful advise. I really don't forsee a problem, being they are both young, the hippo is smaller, and there are plenty of other tankmates.
Update,
It went well, for a few days the atlanic blue tried to threaten the small blur hippo, but the hippo stood its ground, never really any contact, just motioning towards quickly.
As of now the blue hippo has an entourage, he has 2 yellow tail damsels (coulpe of my first fish almost 4.5 years ago) following him around. I think because of the similar colors. They are all the same size now, but will look funny, and kinda kewl when the tang gets larger.
I love scopas tangs; I'm hoping that by the time that I have a big enough tank to keep one in they'll be captivebred and I can buy a nice captivebred specimen! I definitely hope to have a captivebred yellow tang as well though so it's okay if I have to wait a bit for my pretty scopas tang!
Would you think adding a say small-medium yellow - small purple and then a medium yellow would work? or would I need to add more Zebrasoma to have success? I don't want to get rid of my yellow but I love my purple.
Are there any tangs available captive bred in the UK?
I used to mix all sorts of tangs when I was a teen. I ended up getting sick one time after some dirty tang so after that i was very careful on what tangs to swim around in.
Thats the problem with tangs... they are prone to all sorts of disease
Ive got a 5 foot tank and ive got yellow sailfin cole regal tang gonna add a purple now will wait till night time then add
Absolutely love the video and the knowledge and experience you have shared with all of us. I have a few questions and I will personally reach out to you on IG thanks again for all that you do..
I only really answer questions on here, I get hundreds everyday so its hard to reply to everyone. I mainly just focus on youtube
I have a yellow and black tang...they get along fine..
What do you keep the Sohal tang in and will you upgrade ?
Well said ..... IMO I think if your going to add tangs make them the last addiction to you tank and like you said add them together if possible... I made a mistake by adding a yellow tang one of my first fish couldn’t add any other fish he used to beat them up there for he was evicted to the sump and taken back to my LFS 👍
If I was to add any new fish to my aquarium a.k.a "Court", I tend to do a quick prep and add additional beneficial bacteria since the tank might go into an ammonia spike and I usually add enough beneficial bacteria that is listed on the bottle but instead of per gallon, I add for every single fish that are going in so the bacteria population can increase and be sufficient for all new arrivals.
I keep my scopas and timoniensis tang in a 100g tank and they're fine ! Never had a fight or other agressions ,not even when i added the timoniensis after the scopas.
Thats interesting to hear
Hi Prestige Reef another great video. I have a 7 inch sohal tang who has been a very dominant fish in my 850 litre tank for a couple of years now and I was wondering if adding any new tangs would be suicide.
With shoals it’s entirely possible but it really depends how many other tangs you have
Just subscribed! I didn't spot the mustard tang in the display tank, where's him? He looks gorgeous. Is there any tips for caring mustard tang?
Welcome to the team
I was able to mix a gem tang and a yellow tang and only fighting once in a while for dominance, my tank got wiped out for except them but it was because of this Kole tang that was never fully used to the tank
What food were you holding in the water by hand; it looked like a branch?
Hi! I'm not sure how often you check comments on your videos but here goes! I've got a 400L tank, very similiar to what you started with yourself. I think by the sounds of it, your first time was probably an Aquaone 400L reef just like me (105g / 400L) - 50"x19"x24". I wonder if you could share your experience, my first stocking unfortunately was met with disease and I'm now re-stocking after 3 months of farlow. I'm in the position now however where I could add juvs at the same time. The scape in my tank is a BRS negative habit style scape, lots of caves etc. Do you think I'd be alright with a Purple Tang, Tomini Tang and a Fox Face? Would you suggest adding another tang to spread any aggression from the PT? I'd love your thoughts, I'm getting really mixed opinions
Great video on tangs! I have 6 in my 125. I've had this mix for about 2 years now. This tank will move to a 240 eventually. 3 yellow tangs, 1 Scopas tank, 1 Powder Blue and 1 Regal Tang. No real aggression, just fat and happy!
Sounds like you have it mastered
@@PrestigeReef or I'm very lucky lol
@@aroundthereef6674 lol more likely that :p
I would like to set up a 180 gallons tank with naso, powder blue, regal and yellow tangs. Any advice to get this group of tang together? Do i need 1 more tang to make it 5 tangs?
I have a Sailfish Tang and a Royal Blue Tang. They get along great. I want to add some more fish. Maybe 1-2 Yellow Tangs, Powder Brown. My tank is over 200 gallons. Also have 2 Clowns, Coral Banded Shrimp, 3 Starfish, and some little red leg snails. What do u think about adding those new Tangs? Or any other ideas? Thank You.
Had 2 baby blue Hippo and 1 baby yellow tang on a 40gl they were good for 2 yrs then re-homed all introduced at the same time
Hippos are a good choice because they are a different genus to the rest :)
How many tangs do you recommend for a 180gal 6ft tank?
What's this fish 05:48? Thanks in advance!
Any advice on catching fish in a reef tank? I feel the only way I can catch the fish is to remove all rock.
My tank is 140x60x60 plus sump = 600lt. 20 days ago added 3 yellow tangs one of them is pretty small the others are juveniles. The small one is brave and is ok with the dominant. The other juvenile was confined to a small corner he defends fiercely. I want to add twoo Z.xanthurums...juveniles of corse. I also have twoo clarkiis and a dwarf fuzzy lion fish. Twoo skimmers, 4 blocks, activated carbon everywhere...what do you think?
I got myself yellow tang today
Nice !
What size is your tank that you're always show in the beginning of your videos in inches please
Since my tank is a little under 100 gallons (about 380L), I’m going to keep just a Tomini Tang in my 4ft by 2ft. Do you have any experience with this species? Are they easy to keep? Are they overly susceptible to disease?
I have a 220 fish only tank i have a V / tang , sailfin tang, blue eye kole tang i have a powder brown tang in QT i love to add will this work thx you
"Some fish are just bastards"
😂
Fact :p
can i add a naso tang reg. to my 220 with A V tang ,sailfin tang , a blue eye kole tang fish only tank thx you
I have a scopas and regal in a 75g ( 300l) they’re both juvenile and get along great until we add another fish our copperband we got died on a fan but got chased on to it by the scopas whereas the regal is fine
Love your channel keep up the great work if you have the time I have just started the hobby myself I started in September the 7th 2018 I have a few videos of my new saltwater aquarium I would love too have your feedback on how iam doing ☺
I have a Vlamingi tang now about 4 - 5 inchs long i love to add a naso tang regular tank is 220 fish only thx you
I have a powder blue, mimic, sohal, Naso..Added the Sohal last (he was the smallest) and he chased the mimic all over the place..then turned on my fox face. Tried the mirror trick and that worked for a while....he's just a bully when its comes to feeding time and then my 8" crosshatch keeps him in check. I am looking to add a blue hippo and a convict? keeping fingers cross. I will try my kessil grow light and see if that helps when I add them. Tank size 220
Thats a pretty big tank so you might be lucky, convicts are very peaceful though
If i put in a Naso Tang , Powder Blue Tang and a yellow tang together in a red sea reefer 350 when they are all small would it cause a problem? Once the fish get bigger i will eventually upgrade to a larger tank
Could I do this with regal tang, achillies tang and a naso tang?
How many tangs would you put in a 75 gallon reef tank?
Aww the tangs are so adorable I love tangs lol 😂😂
If you want a really adorable fish you need a cowfish :p
@@PrestigeReef I definitely thought about it!
