first of all, there is nothing "stripped down" about this performance. i mean the fuzz on the tele alone is pushing the PA to where you can barely hear Kay. sure there's a difference between a tape mix and a DAW mix in terms of how much layering can happen, but you strike me as the type that has at least 1 Queen record. 2nd Aurora Gory Alice barely snuck into the top 200, and the only single anyone cared about by this band (Here And Now) never made it into the top 50. the only reason it charted in the first place was cuz this single got licensed into film/TV soundtracks. 3rd: some raw ass fuzzy af loud rock n roll music still exists, your lazy boomer ass just isn't looking for it. and finally rock n roll is cultural appropriation of black music that existed in a segregated society. a complete anomaly of drugged out freaks, outcasts, weirdos, crazies, and losers....it should have NEVER been popular in the first place.
@@thatfunkchick that's a PA problem, not a gender problem. i will say there is a gender problem in general when it comes to rock n roll music and alternative musics and cultures...but if you've ever been to a punk dive when a fuzzed out band like this rolls up, it doesn't matter the gender of the singer, you ain't hearing shit.

Love this group....bought the cassette of Aurora Gory Alice back in the 90's. They used the play this song a lot on WHFS college radio. How does she manage that wild bridge....been trying to figure out for years the words. But they are great!
Asquerosamente increíble performance!!! Fueron a romperla y la rompieron. Si nacieron para componer esta canción y tocarla en vivo como la tocaron... pueden morir tranquilos.
It sounds like the left and right channels are out of phase and the vocals are out of phase and being cancelled like when you have your earbuds jack not quite plugged in all the way. And it emphasizes all the instruments that are mixed far left and far right.
Same! I remember having it recorded on vcr tape…..Conan always had the best musical guests. Side note: Stacey Jones on drums, a talent kind of like Grohl in a way. Went on to form American Hi Fi as the singer guitar player. I believe he is the current Matchbox 20 drummer, when they play.
1995-1999 was a banner year for me! 1994 Broke up with my ex . Was a club goer after that met chicks and became a legend in my town ! I was the ladies choice. And went to numerous girl band concerts ! With hot chicks Letters to Cleo , Sara mclachlin , crandberries , veruca salt, hole, no doubt, republica, etc

Two of the hottest female musicians to grace the stage back in the 90’s Kaye Hanley and Gwen Stefani wearing her ballcap and overalls during No Doubt’s Ska days
I came backwards in time to see where this song came from because I LOVE the rendition (Cover) by Tim Purcell's Band "Foxes and Fossils. Please check them out!
this was/is the real deal... and I loved the mix/performance here contrary to what others are saying... the spirt in this groups playing could never be denied... !! edit: I started to wonder about what some people here said about Kay's vocals... to the point where I wondered if this was the correct mix - meaning not overdubbed, and after watching it again just feel that this band was just playing really really loud, which truth be told since I was playing in rock bands back then too [electric bass] I'm sure we would have done the exact same thing, turn them amps up and let 'em roar !!
@ElixElixir - Listen to the Josie and the Pussycats soundtrack. Yes.... Josie and the Pussycats. LOL. She did all of "Josie's" vocals. I hate to admit it, but some of the tunes are catchy and grow on you. Or maybe it's because I love Kay Hanley's voice. She didn't want to be in a band anymore, as she got older. Now she writes music. I wish LTC was still making music.
Kay Hanley was the singing voice for Josie's character.. She was the leadsinger for Letters to Cleo ('Cleo' comes from an old pen pal of Hanley) and is now performing solo and she also has a new band calles Palmdale. Trust me, I own every album Kay Hanley ever did ;)
“You’re late! The show goes on in 10 and there’s no time for a sound check! ...Oh well. You’re pros. How bad could it be?” Or maybe the band is trying to drown her out. Doesn’t seem like she’s got all her range here.
Song tuned down (a lot), avoided the high parts of the song, out of tune for other parts, low mic level... sounds like someone might've been up partying and couldn't hit the notes. :-/
I was just thinking that same idea back in the alternative days tatoos really werent all that important it was true talent and screw the wardrobe attitude love grunge
Wasnt that the chick from that show where shes married to that guy and they live with her parents? And she does those commercials like "at our Institute you can get an associates degree in as little as 6 months"
I miss the days when this raw stripped down loud rock was the top of world.
Don't miss dudes playing too loud over a female singer

Oh my whfs. Loved those old hfestivals (hfsetivals?) mid 90s where awesome
I had the cassette single too.
Jesus, what a beautiful woman
They sound super heavy and awesome. Huge amps, too. They must’ve been loud as hell at this time.
Man, hard to believe this was almost 10 years ago. Time flies!
My pager's going off!
This is way older than 10 years ago, dumbass.
I saw Letters To Cleo when they played at The Peach Pitt after Dark. What a fantastic performance.
She could sing and they played fantastically

42 years young and still gorgeous
These guys rocked! Great records. Great performances. Good honest rock and roll.
Whoever mixed this should be fired. You can barely hear the singer.
i dont know what it was but ill agree to that it was out of tune or mixed bad or something sounded horrible on this recording

I'm thinking they ran the band through effects/EQ, but ran her voice dry.
Shut your hole you like fake wrestling you dork
just plain fucking cool...period...WOW!! fuckn awesome
Please take me back to '95!!
I miss this.
Absolutely needed gain on the vocals.
It's this video that sounds so bad, there's another video of the same exact Conan performance that sounds great.
Seriously awesome. I saw them for the first time a few months later at Roseland. This is so great. Thanks for putting this up!!!

During the fast part of the song, Cleo is singing: Ba wabba wabba wabbba waaa, ba wabba wabba wabba wabbbba here & now, Here and now...."
