The baltimore city school system cannot attract good teachers because of several factors, low pay, some out of control students , and the pressure to move these kids along whether they are ready or not. Several friends used to teach in the city, but didn't feel safe so they got jobs elsewhere. Really sad.
The school gets money for every student for every day they attend. They will record them as attending for the money. It is not about education, it is about the MONEY.
@user-sj5ju4jb7t I was born and raised in Florida and I can concur. When I was in school, they had 8th graders take high school level Algebra when they couldn’t even pass the FCAT (our standardized test at the time). They also had kids take Honors Chemistry after failing the Biology exam. And that’s only a couple instances of giving everyone a pass.
It's not just Baltimore...they tried doing that to my children here in Minnesota. And that was 10 years ago. You have to be the advocate for your children. PACER is a great resource. Find the the people who can help you. And NEVER stop fighting for your children. Bless this mother for being as strong as she is.
Mam I’m a special needs girl from Georgia. I don’t know the rules and laws in Maryland but here we have homebound and the school has to send out at least one teacher to your home at least 3 days a week. I wish you and my autistic buddy well.
So, its obvious the Baltimore school district is guilty of racketeering and conspiracy to 1) make students look like they are getting an education and 2) to claim the money for these children's education. Today, all day intermittently, I've watched a lot of these Project Baltimore stories. I've never seen such dereliction of duty: its staggering. They are getting the money but who is getting rich off this concerted effort to not give a damn about these kids?? Some people are definitely pocketing money via raises....something.... Continue to follow the money because a lot of school and city officials need to do hard time for what theyve done.
Nobody is making off with school funds. It is easy to blame the school system when you don't even really know how it works. You don't know because nobody tells you how it actually works. The reason for that is complex and takes a while to understand the laws and rules by which it must by all the laws operate. I retired from teaching. There are three problems. School administrations, parents, children. In that order. Adm turn themselves inside out to meet their superiors impossible demands, the parents pressure, the student's hostility and apathetic attitude toward school. Teachers can only take you to the river they can't make you drink. I taught kids from all over the world. From refugee camps, from hostile war torn environments, poverty, starvation, lack of opportunity. They were from Asia, Africa, South and Central America, Middle East. None were what are called white. They all displayed a desire to learn, were respectful to all adults, worked hard, attended school daily. They were successful students. If a child misses 97 days of school that is 1/2 of the entire school year. Whose fault is that? Disrupts class and is disrespectful even hostile and verbally abusive to teachers. Whose fault is that? Refuses to do the work needed to learn and then blames teacher is mean and doesn't like me. Well you get the picture. I think 100% of the blame is on the parents. I reject the sad story of the working parent. I was a working parent of 2 kids. I got up at 6am got everyone ready, got to school at 7:45, 1 1/2 hours before my first class, taught all day, stayed till 5:30 or 6:00 after school, 30 minutes to get home, made dinner, oversaw homework, clean up after dinner, laundry, supervised night time routine, pack lunches, spent remaining time doing my homework, bed at midnight or later, repeat for 18 years. I just don't buy the I'm a working Mom excuse. Life is hard and you have to work like a donkey. If even one of these complaining moms volunteered in their kids classroom we would all see a massive difference. Because you know what, I have NEVER seen a Black kid be sassy, mouthy, disrespectful, refuse their parent. Not once.
Did you even watch the video? The school falsified paperwork. The mom said she was the one that kept her son home for those days out of concern for his safety, yet the school marked him present anyways. The mom wants him to complete the first grade again so he can do the work and get a proper education, yet the school wants to promote him with fake grades he didn’t earn. Maybe before you write your essay miss teacher, you should at least fully understand the point that’s being made in the first place. 🤷♂️
I understand what you're saying about personal responsibility but some working mothers are also taking care of elderly relatives. I used to work over 40 hours a week and also take care of my mother-in-law after my husband died. Even with that I would still squeeze in 30 minutes to help my son with homework. My son has a learning disability and really 30 minutes was not enough. Eventually I had to choose to stop taking care of my mother-in-law and I sent her off to her daughter's house so that I would have more time to focus on my child.
So let me get this straight. The school told her that she needed to bring her son back to school, I'm assuming with some documentation. Then gives her a report card that basically says he never left? Use the opposing documents as evidence against them in court. Also, that lockdown incident; if there's any documentation stating they couldn't find her son, that's more evidence to use against them in regards to her son's safety. Basically document everything, especially anything from the school, and use it as evidence.
@@kendra.achildress5210 What does pay the bills? Sitting around at home _not teaching_ her kid? She's obviously not working during the day since there were multiple references describing that the kid was with her every day for the 3+ months out of school.
@@spaceballs44 Hopefully, further than the first grade so that she could understand the material when homeschooling her son (which is what she should be doing if nothing else).
No, ancestors of slavery. The parent(s) have to work at least 3 jobs to make rent. When the kids become adults or older teens they will steal run into businesses and steal glasses, at Walmart and other places, a lot of the kids along with parents end up in prison or homeless. In republican states there really aren’t programs to help the poor.
Yeah but that's not the entire problem. My first concern with this "report"is the tablet in the kids hand. I'm assuming that this is also some iPad parenting, leaving that aside I'm going to assume he's in a poor school district from other comments. So the drive behind teachers could be lacking to. There are multiple reasons this could be going on. Without an unbiased journalist i have severe doubts about the entire situation 🤔
You would never say that if this was a different demographic and school district. Stop your nonsense. This district is corrupt and all the corruption is targeted at boys who look like you.
The whole video was about every step of the way her following the district's instructions. She went as far as to take responsibility to say that her son did NOT receive proficiency in classes that he did not attend. That's very directly taking responsibility.
What I don’t understand is why she doesn’t just homeschool him. She said he’s always with her, so she’s not working. At least if she homeschooled him, he’d get an education. You can’t just have your kid not be in school for 96 days.
This city school system needs an audit from top to bottom.
Corrupted from the door
I’m not sure if there is a top.
That costs money.

Kids like this shouldn't be in normal schools ...it's the disaster they call " inclusion..

We see this at the college level. The funds for these children are ending up in the wrong pockets.

They should be in federal prison in Cumberland… my father worked there briefly in the late 1990s.
This school needs to be closed, how are you not checking in on your children’s grades?
She is involved. The school is faking his grades!!!
Exactly
If the school closes, where do kids go to school?
This is a glimpse into everything that's wrong with Baltimore City!
I think Baltimore might have one of the worst school districts I’ve heard of for now 💀
I know bro I thought my school was bad until I discovered Baltimore news💀 And my school once had 8 fights in the same day.

But pulling him out of school before you have other options is irresponsible.
Then the kid ends up dead because they didn't keep track of him.
You see, they are trying to keep those federal funds coming in to the school from the IEP. This is a lot of money per child.
So the school is booking hours, whether attended or not, to get the money. I wonder where that money went
These administrators need prosecuted
And be in federal prison in Cumberland… my father briefly worked there in the late 1990s.

That is insane.

Great parenting.
In an entire inner-city high-school only 3 students could read at a third grade level ! Thank the dems !

Sounds like a real life Ferris Bueller

Invest some of that welfare money in a leash. And holy crap go on a diet.
SO your telling her to take personal responsibility even though she did?
