They did this to my kid for remote kindergarten. She never attended but they marked her present and would not allow me to enroll her in kindergarten the next year. She went straight into first grade even though I had registered her for kindergarten.
I was a teacher during distance learning. My state mandated that we mark students as having attended school if they either 1.) turned in an assignment (even if it was blank) or 2.) showed up to class for at least 5 seconds. It was such a disaster for all students, not just at that time, but for the following school year. At the end of the year, we were told just to pass everyone
That’s the schools making money off you kid. For every day a child is absent they are basically charged! So they mark her there to make more money instead of losing money

Shame on those woman for the dismissive attitude towards what they KNOW was morally WRONG!
It’s baffling that people are still voting for these people who won’t be held accountable. Sure the school CEO isn’t elected, but the mayor could be and should be doing more to address this. It doesn’t only hurt students that are missing some of their classes (even though it’s partly their fault) but what are colleges going to think about “high achieving” students from these schools if you can do the bare minimum and still be above average. It just loses all credibility for all students. They need open transparency laws and to fire all of these administrators and start over
@@smfarrie2943 I’m not saying the parents aren’t also at fault, but having schools making fake grades ruins all of their school’s reputations. The teachers too, should be failing these students and not handing out grades for no effort.
This is hilarious seeing the school staff saying asking questions is harassment because they don't know how to do their job and get scared when they finally get caught
In NYS if the school district can’t meet the standards specified on the IEP it is THEIR responsibility to get the kid adequate education. Even if it means moving him to a private school that does meet the standards, the district would have to pay for it.
I remember being in Jr High and a student was marked present when he never showed up. The sad part was that the student robbed a store one day when he should have been in class. He was acquitted because the attendance record said that he was present in class that day. The teacher who falsified his attendance unknowingly gave him an alibi.
so much shady stuff going on in the city's educational system it's pathetic.. and why should the educational system be any different than any other corrupt system in the city... It's all corruption
It's funny how you run for a position and then claim harassment when questioned about the practices of the office you ran for. Everyone on the school board should be held accountable and required to pay the taxpayers back for fraud.
This why I ended up homeschooling my son who has an IEP. They dropped the ball with him through the pandemic, so I pulled him out! The teachers were assholes to him. Now he is flourishing and going to college while completing his HS Diploma. FUCK the School SYSTEM
And yet there is no accountability by those elected to run things. The state needs to seize control of the city and school system and then the state needs to hire and appoint a private company to run things, create an improvement plan and progress metrics, and then have another independent body to ensure those metrics of improvement are met and on schedule.
This happened to a family member of mine. His mom had to fight the school and make a complaint to the BOE to get her son the additional help he needed for his IEP. It’s only when she made a big fuss and fought back did they give it to her. Even tho the law says they are given the right to a fair education these schools are not doing what they are required to do even if they are funded. They don’t want to pay so they push these students along, lie on their grading, and pass them knowing these students needed accommodations. It’s so sad! Parents, if you are just leaving it up to the schools to educate your kids then it’s is you who have failed them…not the school! 😑
Taking a guess this isn't a rare occurrence. Clearly the teachers pencil whipped it, probably like they do most of the kids. If only the parents were involved with the kids they could boot that nasty school board out and get people in there that care. If they don't care, parents don't care and kids don't care this cycle will continue and its just sad.
Counselor's and school secretaries have access to the software and login credentials that teachers use to grade and take attendance. They make changes ALL the time behind teachers' backs assuming that we are too overworked to notice and oftentimes at an administrator's request. As a teacher, I would be highly upset if my name and the name of my school appeared on a news story of this nature as was done with the showing of this student's report card. It is a LEGAL document, and it gives the impression that those teachers broke the law. I have always been that teacher who stands her ground when it comes to some ridiculous request or indirect threat to pass a student who is undeserving of being passed due to excessive absenteeism or a failure to demonstrate at least D- level work.
Im not surprised. In 1998 I was marked for having honor roll when I only was literally cutting school and absent 98 days in that quarter! Patterson High School. When my brother was a kid in talbot county public schools (about 45 minutes from Baltimore) one day my mom was super happy because she saw he’d gotten a perfect grade on an assignment. A little..too good. She looked at the assignment closely and her heart dropped. He’d gotten every answer wrong but they were marked correctly. When she inquired about this, Chapel District Elementary School teachers said “we just don’t want him falling behind” and they insisted they were going to pass him for the year. My mom was livid. The best way to ENSURE a kid falls behind is by passing them when they’re not ready. My mom demanded my brother be held back. She said she was going to send the assignment to the Star Democrat and say “this is what Talbot county public schools accepts as a passing grade”. Talbot county and Maryland schools in general just flat out lie about grading. It happened with ME when I had a teacher mark me for extra credit I’d never done, just to bring my overall grade up. Maryland schools don’t care. Look at state MSA scores vs state performance scores for the last two decades..
Quantay and his mom deserve better than this. Children need to be educated and treated like our future without God family country whos going to take care of us old people. God please help this family Q and his mom deserve better. I feel both of their pain
Charter school, figures. I personally know of a similar student AWOL with no explanation. Failed every class. With so many absences, the student has to pass an exam to demonstrate mastery. If the window closes, you fail. Simple as that.
When IEP’s are involved teachers are nervous. They feel they can’t fail a kid with an IEP, even when that kid refuses to do the work. Admins feel they can not suspend or expel a poorly behaved kid if they have an IEP. Part of this is because they are afraid of legal repercussions or the optics of it. There is so much that goes into tracking and enforcing IEPs…which is why they are written by special education teachers with training and not gen ed teachers. What they did was clearly wrong, but I bet this PARTLY came from confusion on what the correct way to handle this unfamiliar situation was. The central office special education coordinator/director should have stepped in and directed the school on how to handle this. Where was SPED teacher that wrote the IEP? Why didn’t she/he step in? This is a crazy situation that should not happen.
They couldn't provide this boy with a nurse, yet schools have no problems providing litter pans for furries. This world is calling good evil and evil good.
This poor dude is an A student and his teachers did him dirty. So the kid who wants to learn and be in school can’t but the ones who can don’t even show up or even care.

If I were to give advice to any parent of a Baltimore city school student, I would tell them to drop out of school at 16 and get their GED. I would imagine that a GED would look a hell of a lot better on a resume/job application than a Baltimore high school diploma. 🙄

Public schools use the same fraud tactics in order to boost their budgets. Schools are incentivized to simulate attendance, period. One day people will learn schools are just like police departments or any other inefficient self interested organization funded by tax dollars with extremely little oversight. They aren’t actually interested in teaching your kids. They’re interested in getting as much money as possible and do as little as possible.
I teach special education at a high school and this is absolutely heartbreaking. I pray that this young man continues to thrive in his academics and graduates with the honors that he deserves. May God bless him and all high school students to continue to push forward!!🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Thank you for your hard work with a vulnerable population 😊
Great mother fighting for her son. God bless you and your family
A pleasure to have in class… and hasn’t been there for 140 days without the nurse he needed… wow..😞😞😞
I missed 180 days of my senior year due to lots of hospital stays and yet they passed me in everything and graduated me. I was screwed whenI got to college
How long is a school year for you? I thought school years lasted 180 days? Were you gone the whole school year?
Why didn't you or your parents dispute the grades and request to repeat those classes? You didn't HAVE to be screwed....
It's that stupid
"No child left behind"
Law.
This poor sweet boy, he is one of the good kids who really wants to go to school and needs the interaction with peers. Absolutely disgusting that they could not provide him with anything. Nurse shortages are real but theres all kinds of easy to online schooling for any student. The school owes this young man an apology at the very least and aid to catch up at the correct level.
This is so tragic! He wants to learn, so why can't they take responsibility as to what happened here?
Sounds like the City System needs to be audited by the Fed.
he seems like a good kid. i wish him the best. hopefully they can get out of baltimore, the city is rapidly turning into gary, indiana.
The school board members are doing a disservice to those kids. They should resign.
Respect to the reporter
He is a fine young man with good parenting. His mom's love for him really shows.
@@you12150 Did you even watch the video?
They did this to my kid for remote kindergarten. She never attended but they marked her present and would not allow me to enroll her in kindergarten the next year. She went straight into first grade even though I had registered her for kindergarten.
Wow!
Great mom! Glad she’s fighting for her son. He clearly wants to learn! Please parents if you can, homeschool your kids. Take them out of this broken system.
Best of luck to this young man on his journey through life. Bravo to his mother, we need more parents like her
Good on you mom for raising this topic. You did not fail your son and you are helping others with this as well.
But the CEO of Baltimore City Schools earns almost $400,000 a year hmm
As a former teacher of city school... I can say this happens to non IEP students too.
The problem is not the school. It's the ppl they run the school , they run the schools as a business and attendance and c+ is the product
You are a real one, Mama, advocating for your sweet child. Bless you, baby, sending prayers for angels to cover the both of you in this mess. You're going thru this for a divine reason. Stay strong!
The entire school system is broken starting with the faculty SPECIFICALLY the superintendent they’re the most corrupt. Poor young man.
U won’t believe how many people don’t have simple comprehension skills in Baltimore. I’m from their and it’s a nightmare trying to explain stuff to most people. My son is 3 and I homeschool him just because the school system sucks.
Also people keep supporting these schools by sending their kids there for the free daycare. At this point that’s what it is.
He had those school board members shook! 😮
"I got an emergency" - That's code for "I refuse to take responsibility and we will never be held accountable!"
Disgustingly ratchet! Shame on those individuals that failed that young man! Shame on those ladies that claimed harassment and disruption of the event. Just answer the damn questions! If the school district wasn't being manipulative in their actions... Then, they would have nothing to be silenced about!
And again....
They need open transparency laws and to fire all of these administrators and start over
I didn't realize the mayor was responsible for kids getting to school. I thought that was the parent's job.
@@smfarrie2943 I’m not saying the parents aren’t also at fault, but having schools making fake grades ruins all of their school’s reputations. The teachers too, should be failing these students and not handing out grades for no effort.
Wow that's crazy! So they get funds for him.
Muh'fuckin Con Artists 🎨 ✨
Amazing how fast a nurse became available after the news interview
That's was my thought as well...
I couldn't tell you what's worst between the schools, City Hall and the Police dept ...smh. Just throw the whole city away🚮
He doing, his job. Kudos 😁. From a former instructor that's illegal, to falsely put grades / attendance. That was never earned.
Diversity FCKTOVER AMERICA
so much shady stuff going on in the city's educational system it's pathetic.. and why should the educational system be any different than any other corrupt system in the city... It's all corruption
You are not a ‘former instructor’ because you can’t write an English sentence.
@@createone100Not everyone is an English teacher. And not everyone graduates from the top of their class as a teacher.
@@createone100 these are UA-cam comments not an college essay 😂
And the mayor still wants to blindly send them more money... SMH
It's funny how you run for a position and then claim harassment when questioned about the practices of the office you ran for. Everyone on the school board should be held accountable and required to pay the taxpayers back for fraud.
THIS! 💯 🙌
There have been students that went to school remotely even before covid...no reason he could not sit in his regular classes from home.
The board members suck ! Everyone should boycott the whole school system and not come back until things change…
They probably did this for funding. Someone should be criminally charged.
This why I ended up homeschooling my son who has an IEP. They dropped the ball with him through the pandemic, so I pulled him out! The teachers were assholes to him. Now he is flourishing and going to college while completing his HS Diploma. FUCK the School SYSTEM
“Thriving”
This is fraud on the part of the school.
And yet there is no accountability by those elected to run things. The state needs to seize control of the city and school system and then the state needs to hire and appoint a private company to run things, create an improvement plan and progress metrics, and then have another independent body to ensure those metrics of improvement are met and on schedule.
Great Mom and Smart Son. He will do you proud mom.
Crazy I attended this high school did the same with me
This happened to a family member of mine.
Great job, Mom! Keep up the fight for your son and others.💕
Poor kid the system failed him his mother must be so frustrated it cant be that hard to find the child a nurse.
Looks like that entire school board needs to be replaced, they're just mad they were caught in their lies.
Yep.
I taught in the Baltimore public schools systems and when I failed students, my grades were changed to make them pass. A mess. Not surprised.’
They dont want to loose the funding so they count them present
I love how dedicated the mother is, it always warms my heart to see good parents ❤
Im not surprised. In 1998 I was marked for having honor roll when I only was literally cutting school and absent 98 days in that quarter! Patterson High School. If willing you can check my records yourself and im willing to give an interview saying its my report card and me! The city education system and support programs for kids have been failing...the homeless, the drug addiction, crime,, lack of everything...it starts when their kids learning our city...our state OUR COUNTRY don't care! They help other countries build war on other countries then focusing on the sad truth that our own people are losing everyday because this city is setting them up to learn noone cares unless you do something they want to hear see and be involved in. Like money politics and crime! It is just result of the cities broken people raised in a broken city! #baltimorecityFailingKids #americathelandoffalsehopes
Forcing the schools to have their federal funding based on attendance and testing due to N.C.L.B. and the corruption of your local government has destroyed the school system.
It’s time for the citizens to switch politicians and hold people accountable because it keeps getting worse and worse!
O you was a naughty girl huh
That’s crazy Patterson High School is still bad and now is over run by children of illegal immigrants. It was so bad they had a chain on the door to keep the students in which I believe is against all fire codes
She need to sue
Beautiful kind sweet Mother ❤❤❤
Baltimore City Schools: You don’t need to attend classes in order to become valedictorian. 🙄
Lady....glad you held everything together. Quante, keep being you, don't give up
Any time I have a glimmer of hope for the future of the western world, I see a fox baltimore clip and I realise we're all fucked
Wonderful son and Mother!
Quantay and his mom deserve better than this. Children need to be educated and treated like our future without God family country whos going to take care of us old people. God please help this family Q and his mom deserve better. I feel both of their pain
Kudos to the mom for coming forward. I wonder if they give students who do go to class fake grades.
What a filthy shame on that school and the school district. I am so upset for the young man.
Where are the fathers ......🤦🏿♂️
*EXACTLY !*
How would a father change this exactly?? Fathers are needed sure but lack of a father has nothing to do with this situation
Is the father responsible for marking him as present in school or are you just ignorant? Did your father teach you to be rude and nasty like this? I’m sure he will be proud.
What was he suppose to do exactly ? Become the nurse ?! 😅 Also how do you know the father didn’t die ?
Y'all need to stop with this "wHerE arE tHe fAtHers" it makes y'all sound like a broken record. Yes fathers are important but it wasn't a lack of having a father that caused _this_ particular problem. This is a _school_ problem. Having a father wouldn't have made any difference. Stop acting like having a father is a magic wand that makes all your problems go away.
I graduated early despite failing several classes every year. Maryland really don't care.
These schools def embezzle state funding.
Notice how as soon as the reporter mentioned his name that they immediately walked away? They know they’re guilty.
Seeing a lot of people that did not watch the video but are making ignorant comments
imagine being on the first day of high school ever and you see a literal adult as the students 😭🙏
I honestly believe Baltimore should be closed the entire city just close it
Sounds like the school was trying to make itself look better considering they couldn't get a nurse in for 3+ months
Ridiculous!! Smdh
Baltimore board of education shame on you.youre supposed to have rhe best interest of the students as your priority. Youre protecting each other. When they get rid of the head the tail will follow.
This is normal in the school district 😂 u gotta homeschool ur kids
If I were to give advice to any parent of a Baltimore city school student, I would tell them to drop out of school at 16 and get their GED.
I would imagine that a GED would look a hell of a lot better on a resume/job application than a Baltimore high school diploma. 🙄
You need to have educated parents to homeschool their children… that’s not happening in Baltimore
As far as I know, most homeschooling programs are designed for people with little to no learning challenges, (especially those with an IEP, "Individual Education Plan"). Please forgive my lack of knowledge about homeschooling programs.
Poor guy, that is absolutely awful and not acceptable at all.
They need make sure they fix those grades ... 😢
absolutely ridiculous, everyone has the right to education and the guy literally got a damn 3.7 gpa and they faked his grades bringing it down thats ridiculous
When will people see the spiritual aspect of the school system/ALL systems in place to "help"? There's a reason why the people overseeing the most crucial things never genuinely care. This is not a matter of competence it's a matter of agenda. It's designed for failure.
Amazing mama. She’s raising an incredible son.
His father should also be stepping up to fight for his son so that the weight doesn't have to fall all on the mother alone. Black males, when you help make children you are responsible for them too. No one cares about you not liking the mother or falling out of love with her. Whatever, just do your part to support and raise your children.
The hell does this have to do with his father? You don't even know the family situation and you're making assumptions based on what exactly? Do tell.
@@Squ_iddy why are you so anti-black woman? Why do you want black women to be stressed out and over-burdened? Why don't you care about black women's mental and emotional well-being?
That's sad to hear, falsified records, etc. He is a smart kid and is missing out on his senior year because of funding. Yet they shove him through the cracks. The board members were rude and evasive.
When did a D become passing?
When schools decided to just pass along students to get them out of the school system
Not at my school. We needed a B to stay in the program.
