The Master of Public Policy at the Brandt School

The Willy Brandt School of Public Policy at the University of #Erfurt (‪@UniErfurt‬) is #Germany's oldest professional school for public policy, located right in the country's geographical centre.
Our Master of Public Policy (MPP) is a two-year interdisciplinary degree program. It is designed for young academics and professionals who wish to pursue a career in public service, including government agencies, international organizations and the non-profit sector. The MPP program equips future decision makers with the knowledge and practical skills they will need to advance the public interest and make sound policy decisions.
Drawn from political science, economics, sociology, public administration and law, the MPP curriculum builds the skills and knowledge base required of a professional policy analyst. It includes courses in political and economic analysis, statistics, public management and ethics. Throughout the coursework, research and field experience, students develop their understanding of the policy process and the institutions and actors involved in that process.
So far, more than 800 students from more than 90 countries have chosen to study at the Brandt School and represent all regions of the world. Bringing their very diverse geographical and professional backgrounds, our students do not only learn from our faculty, but also a lot from each other.
Our students chose two out of four specializations:
International and Global Public Policy (headed by Prof. Dr. Andreas Goldthau),
Development and Socio-Economic Policy (headed by Prof. Dr. Achim Kemmerling),
Conflict Studies and Management (headed by Dr. Alejandra Ortiz-Ayala),
and Non-Profit Management and Social Entrepreneurship (headed by Prof. Dr. Heike Grimm).
Within those, we offer a broad range of courses on the named subjects, but also on energy policy, e-governance and digital policy (Dr. Hasnain Bokhari), mediation and negotiation and many more.
We bridge high academic standards with a practice-oriented approach by bringing in experienced policy practicioners, a mandatory internship and capstone projects with real clients.
