Actually the bassist, Cubbie Fink's cousin is a survivor of the 1999 Columbine High School massacre. He said she was in the library when everything went down. He flew out the day after, to be there for her and experienced the trauma that happened and how affected she was by it, so this song is also very personal to him.

Thank you, most people react and haven't got a clue what's going on. I knew this already and I like the song. But so much BS talk out there about stuff they know nothing about.

Person to everyone who watched that shit on t.v. too.... we will always be torn between the shooter and the victim in this world. Dillion cleebolt and the other guy deserved their lil moment of shooting somebody...... and everybody they shot deserved to live a full life........ both sides suffered here...... death happens to us all.... whether we like it or not 🥺 when we dont even expect it... its sad... but us who grew up in the columbine days... are numb to other peoples kids dying... nobody else really cares for more than a day or 2.... i believe columbine was the begining of something that cannot be stopped. It birthed school shooters.... more importantly than a few kids and trachers dying.... it tauhht us to be more respectful, before a more "i dont give a fuck" person, than you, kills yo ass.......... like.... now... like a "doom video game". I remember that shooting like yesterday and im numb to them all... unless my kids are at that school... and im the one dad that is coming to the school sneaking somebody shooting up the place to save MY children..... if they catch the bullet before me or the cops showed up.... well shit!... so be it i guess.... more motivation for me to get that shooter.... MY earth... MINE..

🦋 A mixture of Beautiful & Dark. A groove to be more afraid of rather than enjoy by meaning alone. A Cult Classic of DEEP Meaning. We can all Still Appreciate. 👏😊

What I love most about this song is when I’m a good dancing mood I can dance to it without hearing the sad lyrics that are relatable to real life problems but when I’m sad I can be chill and cry my eyes out to this song to get my emotions out when thinking about how bad I feel for people that go through things like this so depending on my mood I will ignore the lyrics or sometimes listen to them

It's actually not an effect on his voice, in the verses he's using a different type of microphone called a bullet Mike which is often used by harmonica players.

Since the pandemic i have found myself looking into the meaning of songs. I have loved this song for years. When I got into the meaning od the song I was shock to say the least. All this time I didn't know. Still love the song, but my eyes opened about the meaning now.

New sub here, checking out your back catalogue. Regards from Portland, the 5-0-tree.
And incidently, this is a great song for dancing those angry feelings out and for not feeling alone in those feelings, less misunderstood. Haven't you ever felt that angry? I have. What if you're all alone or neglected? What if it just builds? People have said it many ways, many times, whether it's a people or a person, push them down for too long and either they break or they break free -- and it's tough to know which is which when you're inside those feelings. When you're inside those feelings, you have to know that other people feel this way, too, that you aren't alone, especially for young adults. This is a great song, just for that. Facing the issue isn't normalizing the problem. Lots of angry people think about picking up an equalizer. Better to dance, if you can. Imo.

back in mid 70s at my high school in small town, some kids would come to school in their pick ups with rifles in a gun rack on rear window...we never even gave it second thought...of course it was before the latch key kids with two parents having to work to maintain the american dream...this is the darkest upbeat song ever

    • @SWLinPHX

I feel the vocal effect on the verse is too much of a contrast to the fuller chorus that it just feels disjointed and doesn't flow into the chorus well at all. When performing live it does however.
